Now that Covid-19 is coming to an end and people begin to transition back into their pre pandemic lives, summer is the most optimal time to volunteer and help out. Key Clubbers have been actively participating in different volunteering activities and during the 2020-2021 school year, Key Club provided a multitude of volunteering options whether it be virtual or in person. For those who prefer to volunteer from the comfort of their home, participating in activities such as Love for Our Elders is a great way to contribute to the community. Love for Our Elders is an organization that allows students to be of aid to elders by writing letters.

It is a great way to spend time this summer making a new friend. With the pandemic and having to stay indoors, it is harder for our seniors to stay in touch with their loved ones and therefore are socially isolated. Writing a letter is one way our seniors can feel cared for and appreciated.

posting occasionally on Instagram and other means of social media. This way Key Clubbers and others can look into this organization. For those who are okay with outside volunteering, a small but significantly impactful way to make a difference in your community is to pick up trash from the park, plant trees,

or even helping out at hospitals. One event you could volunteer at is Teens Clean. Ama Abeynayake, a rising senior at Plano East Senior High and Co-Editor of Key Club is promoting a Teens Clean project at Russell Creek Park to encourage teens in the area to participate in cleaning and recycling for the community. With the use of social media (Instagram, Google Classroom, Remind, Key Club Website), Key Club will promote completing small daily tasks as a way to play a part in one’s community.

COVID-19 PREVENTED THE MAJOR VOLUNTEERING OUTSIDE OF THE COMFORT O VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES WE WOULD TYPICAL PLANO BALLOON FESTIVAL WERE CLOSED DUE PREVENT THE DEDICATED PESH KEY-CLUBBERS FINDING WAYS TO VOLUNTEER DESPITE THE D HELPING OUR CLUB STAY CONNECTED WITH T GRANTED TOWARDS THE USE OF SOCIAL MED ASPECTS OF OUR LIVES, IT HELPED IMMENSEL PLATFORMS INCLUDING INSTAGRAM, REMIND, A WORK HARD IN MAINTAINING THE SOCIALS SO PLEASING, AND INFORMATIVE FOR OUR MEMBER ARE FURTHERED THROUGH THE CONSISTENT USE TO DATE WITH VOLUNTEERING- ESPECIALLY DUR PESH KEY-CLUB INSTAGRAM AND GOOGLE CLASS QUESTIONS, SUCH AS WHAT SERVICE THEY ARE WHAT IS THEIR FAVORITE CANDY, CAN BE FOU ANSWER, BUT ALSO ALLOWS US TO BETTER KNOW EXPERIENCES. WHEN IT COMES TO HOW SOCIAL KEY CLUB’S VICE PRESIDENT, DEAVEN TRAN, SA SERVICE ACROSS VARIOUS PLATFORMS ALLOW SERVE AS WELL. TWORKING HAS HELPED BETTER OUR CLUB, IS AR, I KNOW THAT OUR HOME CLUB CERTAINLY AS WELL AS STAYING CONNECTED WITHIN THE ITY OF OUR MEMBERS FROM TAKING PART IN OF THEIR HOMES. IN ADDITION, THE LOCAL LLY HAVE OUR MEMBERS ENJOY SUCH AS THE TO THE PANDEMIC. HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT FROM STEPPING UP TO THE CHALLENGE AND IFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES! Evelyn Sheng Hello! I’m Evelyn Sheng. Though last year had many unexpected changes, such as having to navigate through a virtual (or hybrid) learning environment, I am more than certain to say that Key Club was such a positive experience for me through it all. The officers really care about their members and are very interactive, and not to mention, are super organized and always give reminders and updates on various platforms. Many feel a disconnect when being on Zoom; however, Key Club was the complete opposite, fostering an open and welcoming group. I am truly thrilled to be a part of this great organization for my second year, this time thankfully in-person.

My main task was to design and create a banner (as shown in the picture); however, I took part in discussion and provided assistance whenever I could for other components of this event such as invitation design, attendance tracking, t-shirt design, gift assembly, photobooths setup, serenade writing/recording, and the list goes on. After lots of meetings, debates, and hard work, the event was very successful and meaningful to the seniors.

Additionally, weeks before that, I volunteered with decorating and making dessert for another graduation event (at a different church); it was a success as well.

Both events not only taught me service, but it brought other lessons of being a teammate and organizer. Overall, Key Club has been such an amazing experience so far and I’m excited for this new season!

I can’t wait to serve alongside you all to make a difference in our community together.
