The Carnival King

COMMUNITY SECTION

I came to work in the Royal Borough of Kingston in the mid-1980s for Kingston Race and Equalities Council (KREC) with a remit to set up office and engage with diverse communities of the Borough. I knew very little about this Borough except that it was predominantly affluent and successful with a very small, practically non-existent Black and Minority community. The challenge was going to be bigger than I first anticipated.

This Month’s Community Person: John Azah

I set about looking for ways in which KREC could become visible and identify the communities that enjoy the facilities in the Borough. I attended a lot of social and cultural events introducing myself to see what organisations and individuals could offer. I became very pleasantly surprised that Kingston, even in those early days, had a vibrant substantive diverse community which contributed a lot of cultural education and awareness to the Borough. We set about securing funding to support KREC and targeted organisations which provided services that took into account the cultural and heritage needs of the communities in the Borough. Things started to happen very quickly. KREC provided casework support advice and counselling service for victims of racial harassment/discrimination and worked with the statutory sector, especially the local Authority, to ensure that people were given access to appropriate resources. We set up Milaap Centre to cater primarily for the social care needs of elderly Asians in the community. This was followed by Refugee Action Kingston which prioritised the needs of Refugees and Asylum Seekers. We represented their views and offered an advocacy advice service to those needing it. KREC also promoted the Health Needs of Black and Minority Ethnic communities and after initial resistance from service providers, they found it made sense to work with KREC due to the very specific health needs of these communities.

years the fair had grown and attracted good attention, so when we decided to call it Kingston Carnival, there was no resistance to it. Kingston Carnival has become the premier festival in this region and continues to positively promote the Borough. I consider Kingston Carnival one of KREC’s greatest achievements. My aspiration is for it to continue to grow and help all communities come together in ONE Kingston. Kingston Carnival is on 1st September 2013 this year from 12.00nn to 7.00pm. John Azah Director, 14th May 2013

I had a passion to set up a carnival, but I was not sure if Kingston was ready. So I set up an All Nations Fair which celebrated the cultural diversity of Kingston. Over a period of three

Kingston Bipolar Self-Help Group Kingston’s Bipolar support group has been running for 17 years and has recently taken a huge blow due to a funding crisis. Bipolar UK has cut our room hire funds, as well as money for speakers and events. The group even has to supply its own tea and coffee at the monthly meetings. Members have begun to ask what Bipolar UK is actually doing for the sufferers of the condition and if the services they subscribe to are being provided. Faced with the closure of the group, I have taken the future of Kingston’s support meetings into my own hands, and I hope to raise awareness of the good work this monthly support group has been doing within the Kingston community for the past 17 years.

to attend, however there will be £2 entry fee to support the cause at both events. It is imperative that Kingston’s Bipolar support group continues to run because the support provided to sufferers and carers alike is second to none. This group is run completely voluntarily and without support from the local community, we will have to shut the doors for good. Next month the members are walking the 10-kilometre perimeter of Richmond Park and are hoping, with the help of friends, family and the local community, to raise funds through sponsorship to ensure we can afford the costs of the meeting room each month. On top of this, I have reached out to some of the more prolific sufferers of the condition, and as a result, Dr. Liz Miller, author of ‘Mood Mapping’, is coming to talk to the group on the 10th June 2013. Jeremy Thomas author of ‘You Don’t Have to be Famous to Have Manic Depression’ and ‘Taking Leave’ is coming to speak on the 12th August 2013. Both are very passionate about helping me keep the group running and they are offering their services completely free of charge. Anyone interested in attending either of these events are completely welcome, you don’t have to be a beneficiary or member

Both events will be held in the room behind the cafeteria at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre, Fairfield Road, Kingston, Surrey, KT1 2PY.

After surviving what seemed to be terminal cancer I'm now in training to swim the channel for children's cancer charity Momentum, who helped me a great deal. I’m currently training and fundraising for a Channel Swim with a view to completing the task in September 2013. As those of you who follow me on twitter (@tudormorris) will already know, I have a date lined up for my channel swim – the 25/26th September... all very exciting news. Once again I’ve been training in west Wales in Pembrokeshire where my uncle has been taking me out in his boat out to sea for several 2hr long swims. Unfortunately it’s still too cold to be doing open water swims like that without a wetsuit (the weather had only just warmed up to around 8°C), especially for that amount of time. Had a great night at a ‘Back to School’ charity ball that Momentum threw at Holy Cross school on the 5th May. We’d been making a short lm earlier in the week that was about my channel swim and when that was shown it had a great reception – thanks to David Skynner for helping out with the making of that one. Other than that I’ve just been eating well, keeping up regular exercise and cranking up some longer swims. I really cannot wait for the water to warm up enough to do some proper 3-4hr sessions right out at sea. Not much else to report on otherwise, I’ve had my hands full with university coursework deadlines.

POLICE ADVICE PROTECTING YOUR VALUABLES When you are out in public: • Be aware of your surroundings and the people standing near to you • Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe change your direction and go where you feel safer. Stay where you are visible to other people such as inside a shop • Cover jewellery with a head scarf, hood or collar • Take photographs of your jewellery. This will greatly assist Police in the event that it is stolen. Bespoke jewellery is very difficult to describe from memory if you need to report it stolen Keeping your jewellery safe at home: • Make sure you double-lock any UPVC doors with the key and then remove the key to a safe place where it can’t be seen from outside but where you can find it easily in the event of an emergency such as a fire • Before you go out check that all doors and windows are locked, including those upstairs • Use timer switches on lamps to make your home appear occupied when you are out. Remember, to a burglar a dark house is an empty house • Consider installing alarms and ‘dusk to dawn’ security lighting. Burglars don’t like to be ‘lit up’ when they are breaking in to your home • Consider installing a CCV camera outside your property In addition: In addition: • Keep all jewellery and other valuables in a safety deposit box - speak to your local bank to find out what is available This page was sponsored by: • If you prefer to keep your valuables at home, use a good quality safe that B E SECURITY SYSTEMS LTD • complies with official insurance rating SECURING YOUR PEACE OF MIND Burgler Alarms, Fire Alarms, CCTV Cameras, standards Access Control, Door Entry Intercom Systems • You can register your property on the Domestic, Commercial & Industrial Systems free secure online database - www. Natalie Cycles Cuba June update Thank you to those who have been following me by picking up Omni local every month. As you all know I am cycling across Cuba in October to raise funds for three women’s cancer charities. I am also trying to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast, ovarian and cervical cancers. If more people are aware of the early signs then more people will be able to get early diagnosis therefore giving them more chance of surviving their cancer. This month I am hoping to provide more awareness about the signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer. Have you noticed something different about your breast(s) or are you worried you may have breast cancer? Being breast aware means noticing any unusual changes to the breast and having them checked out by a doctor without delay. It’s important to remember that most changes are part of normal breast development.

• A change in the shape of your nipple, particularly if it turns in, sinks into the breast, or has an irregular shape • A blood stained discharge from the nipple • Rash on a nipple or surrounding area • A swelling or lump in your armpit

Did you know.... Breast cancer is not one single disease. There are several types of breast cancer. It can be diagnosed at different stages of development and can grow at different rates. Rarely, it can be diagnosed in men as well as women.

Like breast lumps, these signs don’t necessarily mean cancer. Inverted nipples, blood stained nipple discharge or a rash can all be due to other medical conditions. But if any of these things happen to you, you need to get it checked out. It is most likely to be a benign condition that can easily be treated and seeing the GP will put your mind at rest. But if it does turn out to be a cancer you give yourself the best chance of successful treatment by going to the doctor early on.

The first symptom of breast cancer for many women is a lump in their breast. But many women have breast lumps and 9 out of 10 (90%) are benign. That means they are not cancers. Most benign breast lumps are • Areas of breast cell changes, causing lumpiness that is more obvious just before a period, particularly in women over 35 • Cysts – sacs of fluid in the breast tissue, which are quite common • Fibroadenoma – a collection of fibrous glandular tissue (these are more common in younger women) • Changes that could be due to a breast cancer are • A lump or thickening in an area of the breast • Change in size or shape of a breast • Dimpling of the skin

Please check your breasts regularly. If you are worried about any of the cancers that I have highlighted and you feel that you need further information then contact the charities that I am supporting. They will be able to supply you with a load of information even after you have spoken to your GP. www.breastcancercare.org.uk www.jostrust.org.uk www.ovarian.org.uk Natalie www.justgiving.com/nataliecyclescuba 11

Staying Fit & Healthy The Real Deal

MONTHLY SPECIAL STAYING HEALTHY

When we are trying to lose weight it is important to have a sustainable regime. Whatever you make your goal weight it needs to be realistic and sustainable otherwise you’re in danger of thinking you’re a failure which could lead to over-indulgence. Weight loss needs to be sustainable with a steady consistent weight reduction. Sticking to a diet is the difficulty, but every day that you eat more nourishing food and become more active, you are becoming a healthier, trimmer and fitter person. Rosemary Conley’s weight loss programme is sustainable. It is totally life-enhancing and life-changing. Even after the first week you will see and feel a difference. Your clothes become looser, you don’t feel so tired, you sleep better, your mood is lifted.... and that’s in just one week!

The diet works with your biology because it focuses on Low GI foods. It keeps you feeling full for longer - controlling blood sugars, even allowing for those treats at times. Weave exercise into your daily life and leisure time – eg: climb stairs instead of using lifts and escalators. When watching TV lift some weights or do some stomach crunches. Walk or cycle instead of taking transport. Avoid shying away from hard physical chores at home – think - kill two birds with one stone get the job done and burn some calories and

finally make exercise part of your leisure time. The RC programme deals with real food, not shakes or potions. All food types are included, namely carbohydrates, proteins and fats. It’s not ‘faddy’. When people come off faddy diets 12

they put on all the weight they lost and more. Look at our Slimmers of the Year. How do they find the willpower to lose half their body weight? Because they feel better with every pound, inch or centimetre they lose! Being overweight is rather like suffering with an illness. As soon as you start losing the weight, the symptoms recede. Your joints don’t ache so much, you’re not so out of breath, your heartburn has disappeared and climbing the stairs is much easier. These benefits can be enjoyed within a week or two of following a healthy weight-loss eating plan and increasing your activity levels. Think about your progress one week at a time. Use your Magic Measure® to monitor your inch losses. Weigh yourself once a week rather than daily for a more accurate gauge of your weight loss. Find an old skirt or pair of trousers that you were bursting out of at your heaviest and try them on every week. Appreciate how much looser they are. LW_omniLocal_HalfPageAd_AW.pdf

Write down at the end of each week all the positives you feel from losing weight. Keep reading them! Start to re-programme your brain so it doesn’t yearn chocolate, cakes, biscuits, crisps or excess alcohol. Eat plenty of fruit and veg because they are low in calories and fat, fill you up and keep you healthy. Have enough milk or yogurt to keep your bones strong. Drink alcohol in moderation. Avoid any visible fat as it contains twice as many calories as carbs and protein and doesn’t fill you up. We get enough fat in a normal diet without needing to add more.

Clean 9 – A nutritionally safe way to cleanse What is it? 9 day cleanse to kick start a slimmer, sexier you for your big day. How does it work? Give your stomach a rest and let your liver get rid of the build up of toxins it doesn’t have time to deal with when you are grazing all day. The plan is very simple. Take the high protein shake and aloe vera gel, do a little exercise and measure yourself so that you can see the results. You drink a lot of water to flush toxins away. You will also be taking in more vital nutrients than you normally do. They are all in their natural form. This means your body can repair and rejuvenate itself more effectively. What happened? Case Study 1: Mild mannered mum 3 stone overweight. Not much time to exercise. Does not want to buy in special weird food to follow a plan. Result: Total weight lost in 9 days 8lbs with a further 4 lbs lost by day 15. Dropped more than 1 dress size losing 4 inches around the waist. Felt huge surge of energy after a few days and noticed that skin was much brighter. Plan was convenient and easy to do. It took the hassle out of wondering what to eat and dwelling on it all day. That just makes you hungrier. Result was great. It was a huge boost. After the 9 days, appetite for unhealthy things had decreased. Noticed that did not want to snack and was satisfied with less food. Continued to drink aloe vera daily in the morning as it gave me bundles of energy to cope with whatever life was going to throw at me. My skin looks amazing – Looking much younger and all my eczema cleared up within a 6 week period. If I went out and wanted to enjoy something with more carbs or fat, I popped a Forever Lean Capsule. It binds onto the fat and carbohydrate and helps your metabolism work properly but does not make you dash for the loo like some commercially available fat binders do. Check it out online at www.shanthini.myforever.biz/store

Case study 2: 40 year old male, 2 stone overweight, working all day in an office. He wanted to do some exercise but could not always fit it in. Result: Total weight loss in 9 days 10lbs and 3 inches round the waist. Added a little exercise by getting off one stop early and taking a 10 minute walk to and from work. Has lost the craving for sweet things. Feeling fab and full of energy. Did not feel that he was on a diet at all. The milkshake was very satisfying and kept him full for a long time – unlike a well known diet milk shake that is widely available. Again, feels satisfied with less food. Inspired by his results to continue with a healthy eating plan with a little exercise. Is continuing to lose weight by eating a healthy lunch and having a shake for dinner. Ordinary people around the country are achieving fabulous results with this simple programme. We can help to get you in shape for your big day. Suck it Up!

HOME SECTION

Making your extractor work harder for you No matter how much you spend on the latest and greatest kitchen gadgets there are some things you need to know to make the most of your investment. I often have clients who dislike their ineffective kitchen extractors (sometimes called chimney hoods or just hoods) and often these simple tips make a huge difference. 1) Check where your hood is sending the air it sucks in. It is ideal if it sends the air directly outside through ducting, but otherwise it will need a carbon filter to pull the air through before it expels it back into your room. It is difficult to tell how long this filter will work for due to differences in the sorts of food you cook, but when it is becoming ineffective it is worth replacing it.

E

2) All hoods have a grill that they pull the air through first which traps the grease and stops it from coating the fan and motor. If this fills up it will become ineffective. Older models might require you to buy a paper or foam replacement filter, but most modern hoods have aluminium mesh filters and can be washed by hand or cleaned in a dishwasher. Check with your manufacturer for details.

minutes before you intend to cook. It’s a pain to do (or even remember) but it makes a big difference. 4) In conjunction with my last point, for your extractor to pull air from the room there needs to be a way for other air to come in to take its place which is easy in draughty homes but often requires either an air vent or open window/door in new properties which are better sealed.

3) For your hood to be effective it will need to change the airflow in your kitchen so that the air around the hob can be efficiently extracted. This takes time, so you should give your extractor a head start and turn it on 10

The Cooking Corner Preparing the Perfect Steak Lightly coat a tender cut steak with oil. It is vital that each side is well coated with oil. Now, season the steak. This can include coarsely ground black pepper and a coarse sea or Kosher salt. The oil will hold the seasonings in place. You could also add herbs such as dried parsley. Use anything you like, but try to keep it light. Pre-heat the stove top and oven to 205 degrees C or higher. The burner will heat the skillet and start the steak cooking. The oven will complete the process. Gather a heavyduty skillet. Ensure it is clean and free of cooking spray or oil. All the oil you will need is on the steak. Have the steak, a clean plate, a heavy-duty grill mitt, a tablespoon of butter, and a pair of tongs ready. Place the steak in the centre of the skillet. This will create a great deal of popping, sizzling and smoke. Disregard the noise and smoke; the steak is not burning. After two minutes, turn the steak over placing it exactly where it was. Continue cooking the steak for another two minutes.

If you want the steak very rare, it is time to take it off the heat. If you want it more cooked, transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Set the temperature above 205 degrees C. Drop the tablespoon of butter on top of the steak, right in the middle, before closing the lid. The butter will melt quickly and pour over the steak to give it an extra rich flavour. When the steak is ready to be removed from the skillet, place it on a plate and cover it with a piece of aluminium foil. In five minutes time, the steak will be ready to eat. The resting time allows the juices to distribute evenly into the meat. You are now ready to eat your delicious steak! 21

Laser Hair Removal

HEALTH AND BEAUTY SECTION

Laser hair removal is more than just ‘’zapping’’ unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform. Before getting laser hair removal, check the credentials of the technician performing the procedure. Lasers target coarse hairs whilst leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. On average, after three to five sessions, 90% of patients have permanent hair loss. Just before the procedure, the hair undergoing treatment will be trimmed to a few millimetres above the skin surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted to the colour, thickness, and location of the hair being treated as well as your skin colour. Depending on the laser or light source used, you and the technician will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be vital to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel or special cooling device. The technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions. When the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams, or cold water to alleviate any discomfort. You can schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later. You will get treatments until hair stops growing.

Tips Limit waxing, plucking, and electrolysis six weeks before the treatment. The laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing, plucking, or electrolysis. Also, avoid sun exposure six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and increases the chances of complications after the treatment.

Auntie Planty favourite plant I’m often asked what my favourite plant is. This is a difficult question to answer, as my response would be one plant one day, and then I’d change my mind completely the next. But, if I was allowed to choose two, then the answer is easy!

GARDENING SECTION Supplied by Auntie Planty

I’m always looking for plants that have more than one attractive characteristic. There is no point in having something that needs to be ‘nannied’ for months for it only to flower for a few days, and that’s that for another year. Both of my favourites are what I will call real workers in the garden – they are reliable and yet both incredibly beautiful. The first of these must-have plants is called Brunnera macrophylla ‘Jack Frost’. It’s a clump forming perennial that will bring joy in double doses each year. The first performance is when it produces a haze of the prettiest forget-me-not like flowers in the spring. When its delicate flowers have faded, you merely remove the stems to the base, and the plant then revs up for its second stunning encore. By cutting these flower stems, you are giving the plant the signal for its delicately variegated basal leaves to develop into a neat rounded clump. And the best news of all is that this plant will also do very well in a shady part of the garden. By sheer coincidence, the second of my musthave plants also has a blue flower, but this one doesn’t do its stuff until later in the year. Ceratostigma wilmottianum is a small shrub, that will not grow higher than 1m (39in). I love this plant for the intense blue flowers that normally appear in late summer and early autumn. I say ‘normally’ as the weather has been so strange this year that all of my garden plants have started flowering far too early! But, just before it drops its leaves for the winter, the foliage turns red – another bonus. This plant does extremely well in full sun, and

it’s such a welcome sight after the summer perennials have gone past their best. I tend to leave the plant untouched until the following year before even thinking about doing any light pruning as I consider that its spikey seed heads are a feature worth keeping during winter. Include either or both of these plants in your garden, and you’ll agree that I’m right! As Auntie Planty, Valerie Munro offers garden problem solving sessions in your own garden. Her advice is only a phone call or email away. © 2013 Valerie Munro

tennis’. Regular events are hosted for both members and their guests at the club house. The refurbished bar area boasts modern design with free Wi-Fi. The club house has a fully licensed bar for use by members and their guests. Bridge classes are also run twice a week at the club house.

Kingston Riverside Club is celebrating its first birthday this May. The tennis club is located in an idyllic location on the banks of the River Thames in the heart of Kingston.

In all, the club has 4 clay courts and 2 hard courts. One clay court and one hard court are covered with bubbles during winter, hence making them playable 12 months a year. Lighting is also available.

The way in which the club is run reflects the objectives of the new management team: promoting tennis to everyone in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The club welcomes new members of all abilities; whether you are a complete beginner or a pro, we have groups to suit your game or even challenge it. The club has links with five qualified Tennis Coaches who are happy to provide individual and group lessons to members. There are three things that distinguish Kingston Riverside Club from any other local club:

Kingston Riverside Club also supports community tennis by providing the courts to community programmes for children aged 7 to 15 years, and also promotes Disability Tennis within the local community.

1. Four well-maintained natural clay courts – there are only a handful of clubs in the UK offering this type of court 2. Members play free of charge on all open courts 3. Friendly atmosphere – you are a member of the family, NOT a number

If you are fed up with the impersonal touch of your tennis club, or if you just want to take up tennis and would like to join a friendly, welcoming and flexible group with attractive facilities, why don’t you contact us to organise a visit and try one of our social tennis sessions for free.

The new management team have invested, and are continuing to invest in the complete refurbishment of the club house, the courts and the grounds, with a view to making Kingston Riverside Club ‘THE place to play 26

Guided Walks of Historic Kingston

PLACES TO GO SECTION

Have you ever wondered about Kingston’s fascinating history? If so, why not join one of the specially trained Kingston Tour Guides for an entertaining walk on a Sunday afternoon? The Guides are history enthusiasts and local volunteers, operating as a Council approved group since 1991. They give walking tours to residents and visitors as well as illustrated talks and private walks to pre-arranged groups, and also arrange walks for Council staff to improve their awareness of the town’s heritage.

Group bookings for tours can be arranged at times and dates to suit potential customers by calling 020 8399 0160 or 020 8399 7888. Kingston was a location for coronations of Saxon kings, and the market place and parish church date from the Middle Ages. The town also has a chapel which became a school in the reign of Good Queen Bess, the site of the first bridge across the Thames upriver from London Bridge for many centuries, familiar shops which were once coaching inns in an age of highwaymen; all these are revealed on a guided tour of our ancient market town.

The cost of scheduled tours is £4 per person, and there is no need to book in advance except for groups. The walks start at 2.30pm on Sundays – from the memorial gates in front of All Saints Church in the Market Place and last about 1 ½ hours, operating weekly from 1 April until 30 September; from 1 October to 31 March there is just one walk each first Sunday of the month.

So to gain an insight into over 1,000 years of the intriguing, entertaining and unique history of Kingston, or the fascinating growth of Surbiton at the birth of the railway age, join one of the Kingston Tour guides for a scheduled tour or book your own group for a private walk or talk to appreciate our local history.

C ne see om w o e gy ur m !

There are also Surbiton tours which last about 1½ hours, starting at the front of Surbiton Railway station. These are held in the summer months only – on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 1 April to the end of September.

Choosing Power Tools

DIY SECTION

Envision Future Projects Consider the projects you may use your power drills for, before buying any. This will clarify the types of tools to purchase and the various features to seek. For example, if you are going to use a drill only for building tables in a shop, an ordinary drill with a cord might suffice. If you believe you may be doing roof work with it, you might want to look over some cordless drills. If you are considering woodworking projects that involve angles, you might want to purchase angle grinders or mitre saws. Shop Based on Features and Price Do not shop solely on the basis of price. This can lead to buying cheap tools that do not last. Instead, shop based on the features, overall quality, and price. Look at tools with some extra features that are better made than the bottom of the line tools. These may be more expensive, but they will save money and aggravation in the long run. For example, if you are looking for circular saws, spend an extra thirty pounds for one that has better features, is cordless, or is more solidly made. Consider the Warranty Offered Ensure that the warranty extends for quite some time; the longer the better. Also, make sure it includes full replacement of the tool within that period of time. It should include parts and repair. Make sure you understand what the manufacturer considers normal wear and tear and what they consider a malfunction or breakage warranting replacement. Consider Shopping Locally Consider buying from independent shops as much as possible. Most independent hardware stores offer “try before you buy and offer FREE advice for the project you need the tools for. You can really have a play to make sure what you are buying does the job you need. Moreover, if anything goes wrong, you can always take the power tools back. 37

Do you know who your customers are? The purpose of any business is to sell products and services and make money. One of the keys to your business success, is understanding who your customers are and where they are at. Understand the likes and dislikes, social habits, purchasing power, reading matter, methods used to seek and absorb information, interests, goals and aspirations for each type of customer and use that knowledge to engage your customers. Put yourself in their shoes and only use the tools and techniques that work for them. If you’re not sure, ask. Ask your family, friends and contacts to try and test your ideas. Feedback is invaluable and can save you time and money. Make sure your call to action is clear and easy for your customers to respond. Ensure your customers are getting the best possible service from you. Not only will they come back, they will also recommend you to others.

FACT

Advertising connects everyone

Advertising in Omni Local could raise awareness of YOUR business by up to 70% Firstly, before we point out why you would want to advertise with us, you need to know why you would advertise at all in these difficult times. Advertising can be its own “science” within building a successful business. The main reasons why you need to advertise are simple – 1. You need to stay in touch with your customers. 2. You need to be consistent, and appeal to new and existing customers. 3. When you are not advertising, your competitors will. When you can’t be found your competitors will. 4. Competition in these times is very fierce; if you are not constantly in people’s minds you will soon be forgotten. Once this happens you will have to start all over again. Hard times always come and go, but when you don’t advertise you are easily forgotten or replaced. Keeping up your company profile and image is vital when experiencing the hard times. Presence of your company at all times is a must!!

everyone will see your advert: – while waiting for a Taxi, your fast food, waiting at the hospital, dental or doctor’s surgeries, for your train, or just sitting in the conservatory sipping a cup of tea! Our target readership is an estimated 100,000 local readers.

Using a new and unique concept of advertising raises your business profile and will bring you new customers; it will endorse your existing clients, and will result in new business. There are numerous reasons why Omni Local should be a key player in your company’s marketing strategy.

Using Omni Local offers an excellent, cost effective, and interesting advertising concept which brings a connection with both the community we all work within, and the local businesses. You don’t have to splash out on a huge advertising budget, you can advertise with us for less than 1p per resident. YES THAT’S RIGHT LESS THAN A PENNY. (0.001p actually…!!!)

To advertise with us its 0.001p!!! I am sure you can afford less than a penny!!! Our magazine offers a variety of articles which appeal to all members of society. We appeal to a wide range of the community as we offer puzzles, games, prize competitions for our readers to win, and a unique FREE SMS Discount Voucher service which ensures that the whole of the community will focus on the content of the Omni Local.

On top of the free magazine we also offer advertising space on our website which is free should you invest in advertising in our magazine:no matter how much you agree to, FREE SMS vouchers and now free Video marketing !!

Our monthly magazines are free and are hand delivered door to door by our own team. We conduct monthly surveys to ensure the magazine is being delivered. This ensures our circulation.

When you buy a product or service from a local business the money goes right back into the local community

We also distribute to local business outlets so

So keep it local and keep your community thriving. 44
