When I was a kid, there was this show on Nickelodeon that I used to watch all the time called “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” A group of teens would sit around a campfire swapping scary stories, and at the end, would throw this dust on the fire to make it flame up … seemed magical to me when I was 6 years old. I should go back and watch a few episodes, for old times’ sake! Truthfully, I was, and still occasionally am, afraid the dark. Mainly, when walking up an ill-lit staircase, or when Jess creeps up behind me while I am unsuspecting it at nighttime. Not the point of the publisher’s note, though. I digress.
Around this time of the year, many of us like to feel the spooky vibes as Halloween approaches. The experience of being scared can be thrill ing, and it is a feeling, as a bit of an adrenaline junkie myself, that I enjoy. However, many of us live in a state of fear day in and day out, year after year, fearing the future and what it may, or may not, bring. We fret about our health, finances, loved ones, the government, being attacked, what people think of us … it never ends. We stay afraid of the dark, even though that fear most often is not truly real. F.E.A.R. — False Evidence Appearing Real. Interesting.
Mark Twain once said, “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, most of which never happened.” Have you ever stopped to wonder what fear is costing you? Your decision to stay in fear and worry (yes, that is right… I said decision) does not come without a price. There are physical, emotional, relational, financial and spiritual prices to pay for these fears. I am not going to go down the massive list, but I am sure you can deduce that the consequences of fear are not positive ones.
As we near Halloween, I challenge you to have a greater awareness as to where in your life you may be in constant states of fear. Increasing your awareness is the first step. We then need to understand that every situation we find, or may find ourselves in, seemingly good or bad, always has opportu nity for positive growth.
As kids, most of us were afraid of the dark, but as we grew up, we eventually faced the fear of darkness and realized that there really was nothing to be afraid of. It has always been in our head. What is the darkness that you fear as an adult? Is it possible, too, that it is only real in your mind?
See y’all in the light!
JORDAN ESPESETH Owner jordan.espeseth@n2co.comIf you take a second and think about your favorite times from your life in the business, what comes to mind?
Chances are very good that some of your most cherished times revolve around the way you have helped the people you work with reach their next stage in life.
That’s something that Jared appreci ates very much about his work, too.
As Broker/Owner with Model Realty, Jared also specializes in making the moments come true for others around him.
Jared earned his real estate license in February 2017 and set to work. Day-by-day, month-by-month, he got to know his customers and their needs … then he met them. The power of those efforts have come back to him in powerful ways through time.
“I feel really blessed to have made some close friendships that started out as clients,” Jared says. “I remember during my son’s birthday party. I just happened to take a moment and took in the surroundings and all of the peo ple we had there. As I looked around, I had helped almost everyone who was there either buy or sell a house. That was a very fulfilling moment for me.”
As Jared came of age, he had originally started out on another path.
“Out of college, I spent a year working for a nonprofit called YoungLife. After that, I started working for a foundation repair company,” he says.
“I got into the business world and worked at the foundation company for five years. For the last four years that I was there, I was working in busi ness development.”
Through time Jared put his thirst for learning into overdrive … in turn, shar ing it back with others. In fact, he has written multiple continuing education courses and taught more than 100 con tinuing education classes over four years.
“I had gotten my real estate license thinking I could do it part time, then realizing I needed to do one or the other. So, that’s what I did. So, I went full time in real estate on July 1, 2017,” Jared says.
“The years I spent at the foundation repair company really helped me start with a much more comfortable level of knowledge getting into the business.”
Through time, Jared has built a reputation for results. In fact, in 2021, he recorded around $17.5 million in sales volume, representing 56 deals.
Away from work, Jared looks forward to spending life with his family, including his wife, Kelsey, and their children — 4-year-old Wade, 1-year-old Todd, and newborn Hank.
In his free time, Jared enjoys flipping prop erties. He also enjoys hanging out with friends. He has a passion for playing board games, reading, and exercise.
He and his family also like to take vacations together. In addition, they also enjoy staying involved in their church.
Those who have the opportunity to get to know and work with Jared appreciate his genuine, heartfelt nature and the way he pours his experience and expertise into others.
“That ties back to the name of the brokerage … Model Realty. Working with one of my good friends in branding and design, I was talking with him, and he helped me come
up with Model Realty … modeling the right way to do things … how to price, list, negotiate and write an offer. I hope people view me as someone who really cares about doing things the right way,” Jared says.
“That plays out in a lot of aspects. It boils down to integrity. I want to be a trusted resource in the process. I take a lot of pride in knowing what I do. I like when they call me six months after getting the house and asking my opinion on what to do.”
As Jared looks to the future, he looks forward to expanding his efforts with more teamwork. Right now, he works with an assistant and also works with another agent who supports Jared and has his own clients, as well.
In the meantime, Jared makes a lasting impact on the lives of those around him by making the moment for those around him.
I FEEL REALLY BLESSED TO HAVE MADE SOME CLOSE FRIENDSHIPS THAT STARTED OUT AS CLIENTS.
was born. “I grew up in the outdoors,” she recalled. “We always went fishing and camping. My uncle had a wheat farm and ran cattle, so we would help out whenever we could.”
Even after McNeil moved to Irving, Texas, when she was in middle school, she and her sister would go back to Montana every summer until she was 16 to work the wheat harvest. It was during this time that McNeil developed a strong work ethic and an appreciation of people’s time. “We only had ten days to get everything done, so my sister and I did what ever we could to help. We shuttled
to 9 p.m. on the weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. It was all I did. I needed more personal time,” she said.
Being in the rental car business, McNeil worked a lot with insur ance companies. She talked with many agents and got to know the ins and outs of what they did during their daily routines. “The Liberty Mutual agents that I worked with at Enterprise always worked well with us, so I got in touch with their human
before getting back to them with options. She also makes herself available to her clients 24/7/365.
“I remember waking up at 4 a.m. to a ringing phone while I was on my first Liberty Leaders Awards Trip in Hawaii,” McNeil said. “For me, that’s just part of my responsibility as an insurance agent.” It’s that mind set that has propelled her to chalk up another Rookie
mix and a 12-year-old Boxer/Boston
resources department,” McNeil said. After completing the initial HR analysis and interview, she knew it was going to be a great fit. Plus, she got her evenings and weekends back. “One of the best things was that we lived in North Richland Hills, and my office was six minutes down the road in Keller,” said McNeil. “Talk about saving time!”
McNeil has certainly come a long way since her first job helping to keep things running smoothly during summer wheat harvests in Montana. But just like she did when she was supporting the ranch hands, McNeil knows it’s all about time. After sitting down with new clients for the initial consultation to discuss their needs, she researches policies on her own
of the Year Award, this time with Liberty Mutual for her eight-state region. She’s also qualified for the Liberty Leaders Award, which recognizes annual sales expectations, six times … and won it three times.
Besides all McNeil does to ensure her clients are taken care of, she also finds time to take care of herself and her community. She and her hus band, John, who’ve been married for 23 years, love to travel. “We’ve been back to the same resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, for the last 20 years, and we’ll go to Vegas every once in a while with friends,” said McNeil. They also have two fur babies, a 10-year-old Shar-Pei/hound
McNeil credits both of her parents with teaching her about the importance of being driven. “My dad spent 20 years in the Air Force and then 16 years with the U.S. Border Patrol on the U.S./Canada border. He taught me that tough times never last, but tough people do,” McNeil said. Her mother, who had Huntington’s Disease from the time McNeil was 14 until she passed away when McNeil was 31, taught her to become as successful as you can in case your time is cut short. “They both also taught me to be honest, ethical, and compassionate,” said McNeil. “More than anything else, that’s what I’d most like to be remembered for.”
They both also taught me to be honest, ethical and compassionate.
When you meet Jamie Adams, you might think he was graced with good fortune. But for the guy who seems to know everyone and can get just about anything done, it’s hard to believe that he was once on the brink of losing everything.
Dallas Maverick Dirk Nowitzki, former Dallas Cowboys Dez Bryant and Demarcus Ware, and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan to name a few, Adams is most proud about his “bread and butter” real estate transac tions that have sustained him throughout his illustrious career in the North Texas real estate industry. “The glamour associ ated with our sports relationships is only a percentage of our business. The relation ships we’ve formed throughout the years are the core of our business and the best reward of all,” Adams said.
It’s hard to believe that with all the success that Adams has enjoyed over the years, his real estate agent in 1985 with Van Zandt REALTORS® in Arlington. Adams was also selling cowboy boots part-time at Morgan Boots and worked as a DJ at City Limits, a country music bar in Arlington back then. Drinking was a part of the bar scene, and Adams’ casual drinking turned into a daily habit, something he was able to hide from most of his friends and clients even as his real estate career took off.
Rock bottom came in 1992 when he was given an ultimatum to get help or find another broker to work for. He checked himself into the Billy Gregory Pine Street County Detox Center in Fort Worth. “I needed harsh, medical-assisted detox for the first week, and it took me 21 days to get that under control,” Adams said. While the Pine Street staff wanted to keep him another 30 days after his initial stint, Adams was concerned that being gone so long would deal an unrecoverable blow to his real estate business. Fortunately, thanks to Elaine Agel (President) and Gloria Van Zandt (Broker / Principle) of Van Zandt REALTORS® in Arlington, they allowed him to come back to the firm under strict guidelines that if he started drinking again, he would be let go. “I had to, and did, hit rock bottom, which is why I was able to turn my life around. Tarrant County Criminal Court Judge Daryl Coffey was also there for me and helped me get
the treatment that I needed,” said Adams. “It was hard on Jamie, but it worked. Pine Street is the last stop for a lot of people. I think Jamie realized that there were a lot of peo ple out there worse than he was and that he needed to straighten his act up,” Judge Coffey explained.
Adams fully realizes that he was given a second chance at life. “We’re all given opportunities in this life,” he said. “What counts is what we do with them. With prayers, patience, and by the grace of God, I got another opportunity to live the life I have today.” As part of that second chance, Adams lives without regrets.
As a Principal of Zang | Adams Real Estate of Compass, he helps clients with buying and selling primary
residences, second homes, commercial real estate, leasing, as well as com mercial and residential development.
He and his wife, Amber, have three boys — Jared, 22; Jeremy, 19; and Wyatt, 17, and the family is involved in numerous community interests and local charities, including Mission Arlington and The Impact Center. After such a long and successful career in real estate, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Adams slowed down a bit. Instead, he’s working just as hard today as he always has, leveraging a work ethic and other sage advice from his hard-working mom while growing up in Plainview, Texas. “I’m the oldest of five boys, and my mom was a single mother. She taught me at an early age the importance of service to others and
how important your word is,” said Adams. “She also taught me to show up early and stay late, go above and beyond what is expected of you, and to always give back.” He also cred its mentors such as Ruth and Nolan Ryan, Rosie and Mike Moncrief, and Beverly and Mike Reilly for always being there for him and showing him what it means to be part of a commu nity and really give back.
Adams doesn’t dwell much on the past — he’d rather spend time on the opportunities ahead. “I’ve tried to live my life by treating people how I would want to be treated,” he said. “I cherish every relationship I’ve built over this lifetime. I want to be remembered as a guy who kept my word and always did my best to help others.”
When you have the skills to create success in one area of real estate, what do you do beyond that? If you’re John Teixeira, you keep building in another area, as well.
That’s what John has done as Team Leader with Teixeira Realty Group with RE/MAX Associates of Mansfield. But, that’s just the start. John also heads Teixeira Property Management.
“We really have two separate busi nesses operating as one,” John says.
The two businesses developed organically as a natural response to market conditions and opportunities that John saw.
“So much has changed through time. When 2008 happened to us, I had a bunch of people looking to move and
relocate. Instead of telling them no, we can’t do it, I gave them an alterna tive,” he explains.
“We could rent their house for two to three years until the market got right and then sell. I ended up with a good book of business managing homes that way … 25 to 30 properties.”
As John explains, his original plans didn’t start off as a model to get into property management.
“When I brought my son on as a teen ager, he had a very entrepreneurial spark. He caught the real estate bug
early on. It inspired me to continue this avenue of helping people build wealth,” John remembers.
“Right now, we have about 220 doors we manage, including short-term rent als, a niche we’ve been doing for about the last six years in Dallas; Broken Bow, OK; and Orange Beach, AL.”
Before beginning his real estate adventure, John enjoyed significant success in another professional path.
He ran a podiatry lab for over ten years in his 20s and then went out on his own and started his own cleaning and janitorial supplies business.
“During the refi boom, I got into loan signings with a nationwide loan signing business that did up to 200 loan sign ings a day. I was signing 10 to 15 loans a day myself. That’s the crux of what got me to Texas,” John remembers.
“That had all happened in California, and I was raising three kids at the same time. When we decided to come here, I had sold my business and was running my notary busi ness. Seeing the writing on the wall that it was going to end, I pursued my next career while I was going to be a REALTOR®,” John says.
“I connected in investor circles and understood that world before I understood the real estate world. Because of that, I have been able to be agile and operate in both worlds and take advantage of both.”
The passion John has for helping those around him runs deep, and it’s been that way since he earned his license in 2006.
“I love being able to constantly see the results of what we do on an ongoing basis for our clients and
helping them build wealth through their real estate,” he points out.
Today, John leads a team of six professionals who are licensed to do real estate sales, help with transactions, and/or handle prop erty management needs.
“My middle son, Kyle, has become our general manager. I brought him on as a partner. My youngest son, Nick, also worked for me. My wife, Lavonne, is my transac tion coordinator.”
Family Highlights
John and Lavonne cherish time with their children. In addition to Kyle and Nick, they also have an older son, Michael.
In his free time, John enjoys playing golf with his sons, in addition to playing softball and exercising. He likes racquetball and cycling, as well.
Other free-time activities include travel. One of his favorite desti nations is Orange Beach, AL, a place John calls his home away from home.
When it comes to giving back, John and his team enjoy supporting the Mansfield Area Marines and the Gift of Adoption organization.
The drive that John feels for what he does is fueled by the care he takes for others.
“That’s what drives me … to see everyone succeed and be here to be a resource,” he says.
Congratulations to John Teixeira for building with his best in both worlds.
In time, that passion turned into a career change — bolstered by a cru cial conversation.
“I had a friend at church who was a real estate agent on her sister’s team. We met and talked about the future, and she asked if I had ever thought about a career in real estate. My answer was no. But after talking with the team and a lot of prayers, I decided to take a leap of faith and left a career I loved to pursue my passion. I received my license over the summer in 2014 and changed professions.”
Continuing a Family Legacy
Today, Rachael has an undeniable love for her work. As she reflects on her fulfilling career and is excited about the future and what is to come, she also reflects back on a very spe cial relationship from the past.
“My grandmother, a lady I adored, Tess Sebesta, was a real estate agent
in Fort Worth many years ago. I remember all the stories she would tell me, and I loved hearing about her career. She was a REALTOR® and Broker of her own company (Sebesta & Company REALTORS®) from 1961 to 1991 in Tarrant County.
In my eyes, she was a pioneer in the industry and led the way for future gen erations of ladies like myself in real estate. Tess lived in Japan for a few years, and I remem ber going and visiting her when I was in eighth grade,”
Rachael says.
“My office has just been remodeled with Japanese-themed decor, and the focal point is a kimono of hers that was just passed down to me from my uncle,” Rachael says with a smile. “One of Tess’s awards sits next to mine, but one of my favorite things from her is a necklace with a diamond that was hers that I wear to every closing to honor her legacy. People who know me well know I am very sentimental, and this is a very special tradition I have.”
Away from work, Rachael treasures time with her family. She and Paul are cele brating over 23 years of marriage. They have two sons who they adore — Austin, who is a student at Baylor, and Ryan, who is a student at Mansfield High School.
In their free time, Rachael and her family love vacation time together with her favorite destination being the beach. In her spare time, Rachael also has a passion for taking pictures and floral arranging. Faith plays a huge role in their lives. In turn, they cherish time spent at church — Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.
As Rachael says with a smile, everything she does is built around her people that she feels so privileged to work with.
“I love staying in touch with everyone I have ever worked with. My favorite event each year is our pie party event every fall. We have a great turnout, and it feels more like a reunion of family and friends instead of a real estate work event,” she says.
“It’s great to see the way friends from our present and past brought new cli ents to us, so we have grown business organically. Each day it is a blessing to wake up and be able to help others with their dreams.”
Whether she is supporting the needs of her community, helping a peer in the business, or guiding a client through the process, Rachael Brenneman achieves results on the behalf of others. And it all begins with her genuine heart for helping.
Each day it is a blessing to wake up and be able to help others with their dreams.
