On behalf of the Board of Management and all the staff at Midleton CBS Primary School we would like to wish our school community a very happy and holy Christmas. We hope that this Christmas you can spend it surrounded by those who are your nearest and dearest. This is a time of year when we get the opportunity to spend important quality time with family and friends as celebrate this most special time of year. Since returning to school in September our school community, like all other schools, met and dealt with many challenges that have resulted from the Covid-19 Pandemic. However every challenge was met with solidarity and a “can do” attitude. Facing challenges together ensures we have a greater chance of success and this support is always so gratefully appreciated by all of us here in Midleton CBS Primary School.

parents who attended for Parent-Teacher Meetings by phone call this year. These meetings are an invaluable tool in every child’s educational journey as it allows both home and school to support each child in a way that is tailored to

their own specific needs.

A BIG thank you also must be extended to all our teaching and SNA staff for their dedication and resolve shown throughout what has been a difficult term. Our staff always place the needs of our boys at the centre of every decision we make and ensure that their needs are being met to the very best of our ability. This is an attribute we value most highly and are Thank you to all those most grateful to them as CBS Exclusive Issue 2 2020/21

a result. A very special mention must go to our AMAZING secretary Tish and caretaker Denis, who between them truly keep the whole show on the road. We would be lost without them...Thank You! And LAST but not LEAST a MASSIVE thank you to all our boys who, yet again, have met the restrictions and confines of Covid-19 with a positive attitude even on days where it proved to be a little more difficult than others. They have shown great resilience as pods and bubbles continue to be in place. Even when masks were introduced at the beginning of December, despite their initial discomfort the boys’ attitudes have been outstanding. Thank You Boys! Wishing you all a very safe and happy Christmas and an AMAZING New Year!

Our school is trying really hard to increase kindness. One of these ways is The Kindness Tree. If a teacher or student catches someone being kind, they write it on a special leaf. This leaf gets hung on The Kindness Tree. There is also the Wow Wall. When a boy is proud of his work, that work might be hung on the Wow Wall. The Wow Wall encourages students and makes them try their best. By Ethan Sanchu, 5th Class

On the fifth of December Mn. Anthony’s and Michelle/Lucy’s classes had their first big choir performance. They worked very hard on the practices. The practices lasted five weeks. “We were tired but it was worth it,” said Natan from Mn. Anthony’s class. “That half hour flew,” said Casey. Both classes are definitely proud of their work. It happened in the Midleton Christmas fair. They sang loads of songs. “Our favourite song was The Twelve Days of Christmas,” says Natan, Casey and Maxwell. “I am so proud of you. You gave a festive boost to

the whole town,” said Mn. Anthony. “Even our classmates that did not make it should be proud of themselves they felt the Christmas tunes in their hearts,” Natan added. The trio that sung a solo in When a Child is Born did an especially good job. A special thanks to everyone who made it there and gave their one hundred percent. Thank you too, to all the teachers and SNA that helped. Finally, a gigantic thanks to Mn. Andrea who organised all of this. It would have not happened without you.

In our school we started rehearsing for our school choir. We practiced for two times a week. We would practice for an hour each day. We learnt a lot of songs some were easy and some where hard.We sang at the Midleton fayre and we are supposed to sing in the local hospital on Thursday.

It was a fun experience. By Eoin McCarthy

In the run up to Christmas boys from every class donated food to Midleton Meals on Wheels. The Midleton Meals on Wheels is a non-profitable charity that gives all the food that was donated to anyone who needs it locally. Each year our school has a collection for those who may need it. We put all of the food underneath the Christmas Tree because it is a present for many people. Many families have been very generous in giving food . Midelton Meals on Wheels will be collecting the food in the coming days. They were accepting foods like cereal, cookies and other readymade meals. We hope that this appeal will help a lot of people around Midleton this Christmas. Joy will be spread to many families this Christmas thanks to everyone who donated through the school to Midleton Meals on Wheels.

We were learning about satellites and how they help us in our daily lives. They help us to send messages, use GPS and inform us about the weather. We did a close test and a sequencing activity and most of all we enjoyed colouring the details on the satel-

lites. The experiment was when we shone a torch at a mirror and we could see it reflected back onto the page the way a satellite would send messages in real life. This was for Science Week and we learned about space also during Space Week.
