Training is an undeniable lever in the development and mastery of the distribution of automotive spare parts, whether for equipment manufacturers or for distributors.
For equipment manufacturers, training is inseparable from the development of new products: each product launched requires appropriate training. This becomes even more important as the technological evolution of recent years, which is revolutionizing automotive technology (electrification, autonomous driving, etc.), profoundly disrupts the field of knowledge in the car maintenance industry. It now requires increased attention to train stakeholders in the automotive aftersales, whether at the commercial or technical level.
For distributors, training not only helps sales and technical sales teams to better master new products in order to sell them better, but it is essential for their garage customers who will offer and fit these products.
The development of the training activity within Nexus Automotive Algeria therefore came naturally in order to offer the package of services necessary for the business growth of our members, whether they are equipment manufacturers or distributors.
This training activity, which is part of continuing education, pre-supposes that the learners who come to attend the training have the necessary pre-requisites to follow the training offered by the
suppliers. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and, if we add the difficulties linked to the mastery of the languages of transmission (English, French), we find ourselves with a significant gap between what is taught and what is acquired. This is mainly due to the weakness of the programs offered in the initial training cycles (diploma and qualifying) on the one hand, and the absence of continuing training centers on the other.
We can therefore summarize the situation of the training sector in the automotive field in Algeria, which also reflects the situation in many countries of the region and the continent, as follows: public vocational training no longer meets the needs of the labor market and the programs are out of step with the technologies and techniques of the trades in the sector. There is therefore a mismatch between supply and demand, which considerably reduces the chances of hiring young graduates. Based on this reality on the ground, we have opted for the creation of an entity totally dedicated to training – the Automotive Academy - which will include not only the training courses developed by N!Academy and the equipment partners, but also offer additional training courses allowing learners to acquire the necessary knowledge to follow the training offered by our partners and the skills required to offer quality services.
Automotive Academy is the first training center in Africa where Nexus Automotive International and IAMaga are directly involved, not only as shareholders but also as partners in the business development.
Automotive Academy has obtained its approval from the Algerian State and has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Ministry of Vocational Training and Education for the creation of the “Centre d’Excellence de formation aux métiers de l’Industrie et des Services de l’Automobile et de la Mobilité : CEISAM” (Center of Excellence for Training in Automotive and Mobility Industry and Services Professions). This is located in a public vocational training and learning center on an area of 22,000 m².
The objective of CEISAM is to create the repositories of automotive training programs for diploma courses (CAP, BT and BTS) and qualifying courses (2 to 6 months) and the repository of automotive activities and trades. This strategic position will allow us to profoundly transform the landscape of vocational training and to acquire experience in this area that we can deploy in other countries on the continent.
Automotive Academy will deploy its activities along two lines of development: that of training and that of assistance in the development of garage networks (PC-LCV Maintenance, HD Maintenance and Bodywork). We will thus offer a complete package of knowledge, skills and tools to the various stakeholders in the automotive aftermarket.
In addition to the development of CEISAM as described above, Automotive Academy will be a Technocentre, where activities related to training will be developed on the one hand, and those to
assistance services for the development of garage networks on the other.
Training will be delivered “face-to-face” on the basis of programs developed by our equipment partners, comprising additional upgrading and à la carte themes, and remote (webinars and e-learning) via N!Academy Cloud, and with (should this be: as well as) immersive learning solutions (VR solutions and simulators).
As regards technical and commercial assistance for the development of garage networks, the Automotive Academy technical platform will make it possible to implement the digital solutions developed by N!Services, which are mainly for workshop management (GMS) and database management. A remote technical assistance unit will also be set up for the garages.
To date, our trainers have followed the Train the Trainer sessions organized by N!Academy in Germany, (which took place in June 2022) and in Spain (May 2023).
We have already organized training sessions at the Automotive Academy site with our partner Mahle covering: automatic gearbox oil change station, automatic air conditioning station and ADAS).
For the start of the school year in September, we are organizing training courses for trucks: Jaltest diagnostic tool and wheel geometry.
We will also launch our Nexus Auto pilot center on the Automotive Academy site, which will be the benchmark workshop for garage networks and a learning platform for learners. This is where the digital solutions developed by N!Services will be implemented.
In conclusion, all of these service activities reflect the credo of Nexus Automotive International: “We owe you more than business as usual.” This motto ably reflects the actions taking place at ground level anywhere within the globe!

As a transformative global product leader, BorgWarner is committed to driving the transition to eMobility with a vision of building a cleaner, healthier, safer future for all, in a more energy-efficient world. The company’s Charging Forward accelerated electrification strategy and is closely aligned with its sustainability program, in which full lifecycle innovation plays an essential role.
In 2022, BorgWarner sourced around 36% of raw materials for new manufacturing from recycled or remanufactured supplies. Alongside transitioning the product portfolio to electrification and reducing component weight, further circular product development is underway to increase the content of remanufactured materials to help achieve the company’s Scope 3 target of 25% carbon emissions reduction by 2031, compared to a 2021 baseline.
During almost three decades of remanufacturing vehicle parts including turbochargers, alternators, generators, electronic unit injectors and exhaust gas recirculating valves, BorgWarner has reclaimed and recycled more than 24,500 metric tons of cast iron and aluminum. The turbocharger remanufacturing program alone has saved some 5.2 million turbines, compressor housings and bearings from landfill, enabling the recovery and re-use of tens of thousands of metric tons of cast iron and thousands of metric tons of aluminum.
Turbochargers offer additional environmental benefits beyond the re-use of valuable resources. For
example, by harnessing exhaust gas energy that would otherwise go to waste, a turbocharger can improve the fuel efficiency of a gasoline internal combustion engine by about 9%, reducing the consumption of fossil fuels and their associated exhaust emissions.
In 2022, BorgWarner produced 8.9 million wastegate turbochargers that were fitted to approximately 7.7 million gasoline powered cars. Those turbochargers will go on to save an estimated 16.75 million metric tons of carbon during the average lifetime of the vehicles, based on the turbocharger’s share of a vehicle’s air system.
Now that owners are keeping their vehicles for longer, remanufactured replacement turbochargers are increasingly in demand, helping to lower emissions by restoring lost efficiency. Additional turbocharger references continue to be added regularly from the BorgWarner remanufacturing center in Poland to ensure availability for most applications.
Being a cost-effective option to new replacements, remanufactured parts will always be a popular choice, particularly for older vehicles – but as well as providing good value, they represent an environmentally conscious contribution to BorgWarner’s own sustainability goals and those of its customers.

Our training, whether online or face-to-face, is tailored to the needs of workshops. How do we know what they require? We surveyed 4,000 of them and gained insights into their processes and the challenges they face each day.
The technicians we questioned are hungry for resources and information to support their work and streamline the repair process. Instead of developing generic automotive repair videos and courses, we built resources based on the real-world needs of the garages.
Our solution to the challenges workshops face is to offer a blend of online and offline learning and information resources. Delphi’s training journey is guided by a principle we call the “Rule of Three.” This refers to the timeframes that technicians typically face when making repairs or setting aside a few hours or days to learn a new skill to advance their career and better serve their customers.
Here is a look at the three aspects of the Rule of Three and what each illustrates.
How-To video content published on free to view channels such as YouTube, and the Masters of Motion hub.
Powerful subscription-based platform covering 200+ training modules, extensive video content, a simulator, and much more.
Training in a Delphi technical centre, combining theory and practical on-vehicle courses.
Created by technicians, for technicians.
When the vehicle is on the lift inside the repair shop, mechanics have a very short time to diagnose the problem and decide on a solution. The pressure is on. The wrong answer can delay the repair schedule for the rest of the day. We imagined a scenario where the technicians only have three minutes to diagnose the problem and find the proper solution.
Our survey found that most technicians would often resort to YouTube and Google to find solutions when the problem wasn’t immediately obvious. We realised that posting our educational videos on YouTube is a way to support repair professionals when they need it the most: when the car is on the lift and the deadline for finding a problem is fast approaching.
Hours
Most people lead busy lives, and this is no different in the workshops. Technicians often do not have the time to move between locations to undertake their learning in an official training centre environment. But, often a 3 hour window can become available if a pending vehicle service has been moved.
Our online training platform, the Delphi Academy, allow professionals to build skills and perfect repair abilities in manageable increments without additional travel and commitments - as we often say, it allows technicians to learn where, when, and how best fits their needs.
Days
Some advanced skills require a longer time commitment and face-to-face instruction. Our in-person instruction at Delphi Training Centres across Europe teaches advanced skills, such as working on electric vehicles or high-performance cars. Technicians come away from the training experience with new knowledge to complete complex repairs and aftermarket parts installations.
This blended learning approach, our Rule of Three, makes vital information available to workshops, effectively assisting them as they make repairs and install parts. We are confident the Rule of Three philosophy will work with any new auto technologies coming onto the market. With the right information, workshops can perform repairs effectively and efficiently without worrying that the job is beyond their abilities.

Advancing technology and increasingly complex systems have evolved the brake replacement process. Keep your knowledge and skills up-to-date with the latest training programme, delivered by the leading friction expert.
The comprehensive training programme provides in-depth technical advice on brakes and safety; giving you the know-how and competitive edge to keep ahead in today’s challenging market.
The accelerating development of technology and innovation increasingly influences our lives, both in personal and work activities. New and more advanced products, their features, services and operations are inseparable without knowledge about them and acquiring new skills. This learning process becomes increasingly important professionally every year, and the ability to learn is one of the priority competencies of an employee.
The multi-purpose vehicle market, which is at the forefront of extremely rapid technological changes, forces companies and personnel to pay due attention to the acquisition and updating of new knowledge. Inactivity in this area leads to stagnation and a decrease in competitiveness –for example, a sales manager who is unaware
of new product features cannot advise or consult his customer and influence sales; and a mechanic who doesn’t learn new service and repair procedures just becomes an auxiliary worker.
NexusTruck Lithuania has highlighted the importance of training since the beginning of 2020, establishing the TruckLab training initiative. This program distinguishes 3 main directions:
• Acquainting vehicle parts sales specialists with new products, their features and uniqueness. It is good that most parts manufacturers understand the importance of this issue and can offer the services of their lecturers free of charge.
• Technical training for garage workers. The lack of this is quite clearly emphasized by market participants. The big manufacturers can usually offer fairly narrow training purely related to their products. Detailed topics about vehicle nodes or systems are more difficult to reach (e.g. Jaltest University)
• We see great value in initiatives with vocational schools and colleges training vehicle specialists, as it represents an investment in the competitive and professional future of the market. Help with teaching tools, providing relevant information and the preparation of methodical materials helps schools to keep up with current events and respond to market needs. The organization and sponsorship of various events and competitionssuch as the Young Truck Mechanic Competition - promotes the interests of young specialists in their chosen profession.
Investing in training definitely pays off, with the results of this often only coming through in the long term. Therefore, we appreciate the understanding and support given by manufacturing companies to provide free seminars, as well as the N!Academy division of Nexus Automotive International.

Steering systems from GKN Automotive offer you and your customers OE quality in line with the highest safety standards along with optimal driving comfort.
But be advised: Only a steering system that has been repaired with care will work safely and correctly in the long run. Before replacing the power pump or steering rack, the steering system must be flushed with hydraulic oil and checked for rubber and metal abrasion. This is the only way to rule out possible consequential damage caused by dirt and debris remains in the system. If this is overlooked, the replaced components could fail prematurely, making the claim to the warranty null and void.
Here’s how to do it correctly:
It is not enough to just drain and refill the hydraulic oil
Carefully flush the steering system with approved hydraulic oil and check for material residue
Only a clean steering system can guarantee smooth operation without blockages and leaks
Detailed flushing instructions are available in TecDoc and the in the product packaging

MANN-FILTER offers different training programs for its customers within the Automotive Aftermarket.
At MANN-FILTER, the premium brand of global filtration expert MANN+HUMMEL, we are committed to sharing the highest level of knowledge with our customers as part of our philosophy. Building customer intimacy is essential to our daily business, and one of the primary ways we achieve this is through comprehensive training.
Our training programs for the Automotive Aftermarket cover a wide range of topics, including product knowledge, market insights and technological advancements. Depending on our customers’ needs, we utilize various communication channels, such as face-to-face training, online sessions, or educational videos shared on social media platforms.
Our face-to-face training sessions, conducted either in-house or at our customers’ premises, enable us to directly engage with them. These sessions provide a holistic understanding of filtration and can span from a few hours up to two days, including a tour of the world’s largest filter plant in Marklkofen, for example. By interacting with our in-house specialists, customers benefit from direct contact and gain ‘hands-on’ experience with our products and production capabilities.
In contrast, our online training sessions are tailored to specific topics, such as e-mobility or the off-highway market. These sessions prioritize interactive learning, and we ensure key takeaways are shared with participants after each session. To ensure success, we focus on creating engaging content and employing effective delivery techniques. Online sessions typically last around 90 minutes, conveniently fitting into participants’ schedules.
Furthermore, we produce educational training videos that cover topics with long-term relevance. For instance, one of our videos explains how to change the fuel filter in various passenger car applications.
Training plays a crucial role in our organization’s customer communication strategy. It serves as a swift and precise tool to maintain close relationships with our customers, ensuring we stay aligned with their needs and expectations.

Exhaust gas temperature sensors are used in both petrol and diesel vehicles. In the latter, they mainly provide protection for components and overheating, including turbochargers and catalytic converters. They also ensure accurate regeneration of the diesel particulate filter by ensuring that the necessary temperature is achieved for the free-burning process. In petrol engines, exhaust gas temperature sensors are mainly found in vehicles with modern GDI engines or turbo engines. These are frequently installed, especially in the context of the downsizing trend. Here, too, the exhaust gas temperature sensors perform similar functions. They protect turbochargers and catalytic converters, take over fault detection and on-board diagnostics for the petrol particle filter.
Defective or even completely failed exhaust gas temperature sensors become noticeable, for example, when fuel efficiency decreases. In this case, fuel consumption increases without benefiting the vehicle’s drive system, because the regeneration of the exhaust gas temperature sensor takes longer. Defective AGT sensors can also lead to a deterioration in driving behaviour.
Due to their installation position, exhaust gas temperature sensors are exposed to extremely high temperature fluctuations and thus high loads. Excessive temperatures of over 900° Celsius can hinder regeneration or even cause it to be aborted. This can then result in damage to the diesel particulate filter. Another possible cause can be strong vibrations that cause internal wires to break off or cause wire breaks. However, defective exhaust gas temperature sensors can also cause consequential damage to petrol engines, requiring costly repairs.
If a complication occurs with the exhaust gas temperature sensor, an error is reported in the engine control unit and the engine
warning light flashes. The error can then be read out with a diagnostic device and the defective AGT sensor analysed. Finally, the sensor is replaced. To ensure proper regeneration, the sensor should also be replaced whenever the diesel particulate filter is replaced. We also offer exhaust gas temperature sensors for easy replacement. The Elparts range includes over 350 different AGT sensors that can be used in a wide variety of vehicle models. These include sensors for both diesel and petrol vehicles.
Sockets for safe removal of the sensors
We also offer matching sockets especially for exhaust gas temperature sensors. Due to the high temperatures, AGT sensors literally eat into the thread after some time and can only be unscrewed again with great difficulty and increased effort. Regular ring spanners
or open-ended spanners are usually not tight enough or too unstable to loosen the sensors safely. This poses the risk of slipping and injuring yourself. Our socket spanners, on the other hand, are shaped so that they fit perfectly on almost all exhaust gas temperature sensors and lambda sensors. In addition, the reinforced design enables a secure hold even when a lot of force is applied.

NRF has a strong focus on education and training. A dedicated team of 10 trainers travels daily to distributors and workshops to provide training. From engine cooling and A/C training to special EV training, NRF offers it all.
Why does NRF offer this service?
NRF has a strong focus on providing the best service at various levels. Although NRF sells its aftermarket parts to distributors, NRF feels a strong need to reach out further and connect directly with workshops and mechanics. In this way, NRF understands the needs and challenges at workshop level. They want to share knowledge and
educate mechanics on proper installation procedures and safety precautions. Ultimately, proper installation lowers warranty rates and leads to greater customer satisfaction.
NRF has 10 technical trainers who are located at their locations throughout Europe. This allows NRF to offer training in local languages. Furthermore, it’s easy for the trainers to visit local clients as the distances to travel are relatively short. All trainings are available in the following languages: English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Romanian, and Bulgarian.
In addition to providing training, NRF offers a technical support service called TECHsupport. The trainers are available for technical questions, diagnosis and advice. TECHsupport can be reached by phone, email, and WhatsApp. So, if a mechanic has questions or problems while assembling an NRF part, he or she can contact NRF directly!
Being on the road daily with 10 people means that the trainers visit many distributors and workshops. On average, NRF is providing 1,000 trainings per year, with a total of more than 8,500 participants.
NRF offers a range of more than 11,000 engine cooling and climate control parts. In recent years, NRF has even expanded the product range to include various sensor groups and turbo hoses. The training courses are obviously linked to the
offer. For distributors, trainings are more general and focus on the range and benefits of NRF parts. For workshops, the trainings are really technical. They go into depth on the system and specific parts.
NRF has a strong focus on e-Mobility as the aftermarket for electric vehicles is also growing substantially. In addition to a growing e-Mobility product range, NRF has several EV test vehicles, including a Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3. The technical team records many installation tutorials, which can be found on the NRF YouTube channel. The training team has gained substantial knowledge about EV in the past few years, training themselves to become specialists in this field. As a result, NRF is now offering dedicated EV training courses.
EV training topics are:
- How to prepare an electric vehicle for maintenance?
- General maintenance information
- A/C maintenance and cooling parts
- Safety measures

The human nervous system comprises the brain, the spinal cord and a complex network of nerves. This system sends messages between the brain and the body, with the brain controlling all body functions. The spinal cord runs from the brain down the back. It contains thread-like nerves that branch off to every organ and every part of the body. This network of nerves transmits messages from the brain to the different parts of the body, and we can play with it when we know how.
“High Performing Learning Organizations are 92% more likely to innovate”. © Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved. Member of Deloitte ToucheTohmatsu Limited
The impact of deploying learning is enormous if we consider the potential improvement in the organization’s adaptability, quality, productivity and, of course, the company’s profitability.
In the study “Meet the Modern Learner”, Bersin by Deloitte, the portrait of an adult learner was summed up as follows:
• Impatient
• Easily distracted
• Overwhelmed
• Wants to feel empowered
• Looking for on-demand and collaborative learning
• Over-connected and over-stimulated
Learning is like physical exercise. Neurons activate and relay information to each other, creating a new neural network, with no distinction between what is real and imaginary (for example a plane simulator). This is the opportunity to increase knowledge and skills, by applying a few principles when designing content or delivering training:
FOCUS CAPABILITY > The adult brain has an attention span of about 20 minutes for moderately complex subjects. It drops to just 10 minutes for highly complex subjects. A new product range or a new technology, for example, will be considered by the brain as quite complex and educational designers must adapt accordingly in order to catch learners’ attention, using specific learning methods. Nowadays, people are used to scrolling-on after few seconds. The change will also be considered as an issue. If not decided by the user: it could be a move outside their comfort zone and they may be tempted to reject any new situations.
PRACTICE DURATION > The 20-Hour Rule: “How to rapidly learn any new skill” has been popularized by author Josh Kaufman in his book titled
“The First 20 Hours: How to Learn Anything... Fast!” which is considered a rule of thumb. However, such an approach isn’t always the case. You’ve probably heard the theory that it takes ten thousand hours to master a skill… but for some this is not always the case. You can be sufficiently proficient in just a few days’ practice, simply through the passion you put into daily practice.
LEARNING
> Feeling obliged to do something, you will not learn but proposed to integrate a special program, getting access to premium information, earning grades, certifications, diplomas and you will be trapped in the learning process. The knowledge and skills retention will highly vary depending on the activity selected.
New technologies bring great added value when it comes to talking about learning retention. Augmented reality or Virtual reality have retention rates quite similar to those of face-to-face activities.
In order to meet the learners’ expectations, we can play with the various activities and add a few tricks such as:
• MICRO-LEARNING > Short sequences of up to 3 minutes in length: featuring video, text, images, or audio… can quickly fill in knowledge gaps. The perfect example of this is in-app help, which provides access to information whilst using the tool or tutorials which provide a step-by-step guide for any type of repair.
• ANCHORING > Repetition is the key to knowledge retention. Repeated learning about the same topic in different ways will ensure lasting retention.
• ACCESSIBILITY & DIGITALIZATION OF THE EXPERIENCE > Available 24/7, the N!Academy Cloud supports the anchoring of the knowledge by empowering the learner. They can pick and choose the content they are looking for.
• ENTERTAINMENT AND ATTENTION RATE > Kids can learn foreign languages by spending some time playing with friends, which provides a mix of repetition, positive feedback and hours of fun. Adequate sleep, good food, and casual activities
- in addition to training - will allow a good knowledge retention to any grown adult attending a training session, thanks to the interactions with the group and the trainer(s).
• FAIL AND LEARN > You will feel rewarded not making mistakes, but if you take the risk of practicing and repeating until it works - even if it’s not perfect the first time or after 10 tries - you’ll become much more grounded. You’re not the same person you were a few years ago, you’ve taken the time to learn and practice.
These methods shouldn’t be seen as the answer to all the concerns separately, but as part of an overall pedagogical approach: the BLENDED-LEARNING.
As you may know, the Nexus Academy training offering aims to provide you and your Customers with a turnkey solution for a quality training experience. The content and tools are at your disposal and, depending on the scheme you choose, you can set up your own N!Academy experience in a matter of weeks, at a modest cost.

In the automotive sector, technical training is essential to remain up-to-date and competent in a constantly evolving environment. This is why Service Next’s technical training department, Next Academy, plays a crucial role in the professional development of mechanics and technicians in the network’s workshop sector.
A highlight of the Next Academy is the consideration of the opinions gathered from partner workshops and the consensus of the training and technical assistance teams when choosing the subject matter and/or vehicles on which training will be given. This ensures that the courses are relevant and meet the real needs of the industry.
Once the subject or vehicle has been selected, an exhaustive study and preparation is carried out. This involves a detailed analysis of all its technical characteristics, systems and components in order to be able to offer complete and accurate training. It is important to note that this stage requires great dedication on the part of the team of trainers, as they must have up-to-date knowledge of the latest technological developments and market trends, continuously attending manufacturers’ training and to educate the trainers at an international level. Once the study is completed, the trainer prepares the technical content in different formats. This includes visual presentations, technical manuals, explanatory videos, or even virtual simulations. The objective of this is to offer a variety of didactic resources that facilitate learning and allow participants to better understand the theoretical concepts.
With all the material prepared, it is time to travel and conduct the courses. These courses usually last 8 to 16 hours, divided approximately into 50% theory and 50% practical. The combination of both approaches is essential for participants to be able to apply the knowledge acquired in real situations and develop their practical skills.
The theoretical part of the course is fundamental to understanding the principles and concepts behind repair techniques. The practical part of the course covers aspects such as the fault diagnosis process, electrical schematic interpretation, electronic management systems, and much more. In addition, the trainers make use of tools, parts and components with examples and case studies to illustrate the application of theoretical concepts in real situations. During face-to-face classes, Next Academy trainers use different didactic methodologies to encourage
the active participation of students. This may include discussions, comments on solved cases already, and previous experiences of the attendees.
The goal is to create a dynamic and collaborative environment that stimulates learning and allows participants to share experiences and knowledge with each other. To achieve this goal, attendees also enjoy sharing lunch and dinner, generating a connecting atmosphere and a unique environment. With all the considerations noted above, Next Academy places a high valuation in the opinion of the course attendees in terms of the subject matter taught, the course development, the professional contribution to the workshop and the technical and teaching skills of the trainers who form the training team.
This information is uploaded directly by the students onto a digital platform, where the results obtained are displayed.
Today, the Next Academy training department has 5 technical trainers who have great experience and technical knowledge. The Next Academy team of experts comprises: José Luís Soriano, Alfonso Ramírez, Javier Ramos, Ismael Fuentes and Lluís Godayol.
Fleet operators, distributors and workshops have one thing in common: They all need customized support to achieve their business objectives. The aftermarket expert Knorr-Bremse TruckServices provides a differentiated concept, from its hotline to customized training courses for its partners.
For the aftermarket expert TruckServices, competent services are a key element in partnering with fleet operators, workshops and distributors. TruckServices focuses on the question of what kind of hands-on support is needed to minimize vehicle downtime and thus ensure lasting efficiency in operation. From easy solutions to specific problems, to expert handling of products, or high availability and fast delivery – TruckServices covers all areas with its portfolio and is constantly expanding its products and services to cater for the needs of its partners in the best possible way.
A service is only productive if it addresses the very specific requirements of the partners. TruckServices has found convincing ways and means to achieve exactly this purpose. The TruckServices technical hotline not only answers questions of a general nature, but has a team of experts who can provide workshops with support to resolve highly specific technical issues. A 24-hour helpline is also available to support fleet managers and drivers looking for a workshop in their vicinity. On the TruckServices
customer portal, distributors can find everything they need for express ordering and for core return. Workshops not only benefit from comprehensive, multilingual documentation, but can also expedite work processes and, for example, identify faults more rapidly with the help of diagnostic tools.
It is important for workshops to keep their employess' knowledge up to date and to develop their skills. On the one hand, to ensure professional handling and diagnosis of the latest systems and components, and on the other, because it’s a question of image. TruckServices provides targeted professional development with its extensive offering of both theoretical and practical training courses. The training courses are delivered Face to Face or in virtual classrooms by qualified experts who themselves have a great deal of workshop experience and can help professionals with just the right tips and tricks for their day-to-day work. Pascoli Group was founded in 1973 in the province of Venice. Within 50 years it has been able to optimally develop the distribution of spare parts and accessories - starting with buses and adding trucks and trailers over the years, as well as grinding all types of engines.
Pascoli has also created a sister company specializing in lubricants, additives, chemicals and service products. In the years to follow it expanded its operations to offer diagnostic and repair equipment for workshops along with service and training. A strong demand for specialized training courses has been generated by the evolution from mechanical/ electrical to mechatronic. During the last ten-years, courses have been designed based on customers needs and understanding the importance of putting them at the center of the company’s mission.
With the companies mainly located in Italy within the Group, we can organize courses in dedicated classrooms facilitating the movement of participants.

PROFESSIONALISM AND EXPERIENCE AT THE SERVICE OF OUR CUSTOMERS
pying 33,000 square meters, 500,000 managed codes; and distributes spare parts for 70 original equipment brands.
Automotive technology is constantly being developed, always seeking to be more precise, effective, and less polluting. To achieve this, the single mechanical component has been coupled to electrical or electronic management - especially when it comes to the control of exhaust emissions and driving safety. Hence, the need to have diagnostic devices that can enable the repairer to understand the cause of the problem with absolute precision. Understanding, therefore, means having concrete bases on which to reason in order to arrive at the solution. There also needs to be a clear understanding of the whole operating system, both mechanical and electrical. It is for this reason that today we hear a lot about mechatronics in the workshop. Within this sector, we put our professionalism and experience at the service of our customers to facilitate the reparative dynamics. Our experience has shown us that many mechanics still don’t take into account all these aspects, therefore risking compromising the outcome of the repair, the profitability, the operation of new spare parts provided by distributors, as well as the trust of their customers. Fortunately, there are also many professionals who understand how important it is to provide high levels of performance, investing in both experienced employees and new recruits.
For us, our greatest success is seeing workshops participating in all the courses we offer. This means that we have acknowledged and met their requests, thereby earning their trust. Moreover, creating a true spirit of collaboration and dedication ensures a job well done.
In addition to the training of technicians, we offer courses for qualifications and occupational safety
(Julie I would change this to: we offer occupational safety courses and qualifications through certified institutions specializing in the automotive and truck sector. For these types of courses, we can offer very affordable prices. It is also our job to make the workshops aware of these aspects so that they are not neglected.
Safety at work is a duty which cannot be abandoned but must also be accessible to everyone and to all companies in order to understand and apply it.
In our training offer there are also management courses covering managerial, sales, marketing and service. There are also couses to become a central revisions inspector, mechatronics technician, tire mechanic or coachbuilder. Based on customer requests, we can create tailor-made study paths (wherever possible), based on the number of participants at their locations.
We believe that at this time of strong technological innovation, Pascoli Group can help customers keep pace with developments. This ‘added-value’ is an essential component in continuing the professional path together.

It is important to understand the interdependent nature of employment effects, labour market developments and education. For example, in Finland, almost half (48%) of the automotive sector employment (import, sales, repair, maintenance, leasing and control) represents repair and maintenance jobs1, but despite the strategic importance of automotive mobility in such a country of large geographic distances, educational institutions still need external structural support, e.g. via projects to generate capacity for the automotive aftermarket2. Educational institutions are important actors building capacity via tech, engineering, and business programs for sectors like the automotive aftermarket.
Surprisingly, education that produces professional degrees and diplomas - serving sectors such as the automotive aftermarket and its multifaceted tasks - is often taken for granted. In many European countries, education has been organized by the public sector - funded by taxes - creating a solid base for free education that is accessible for all. This principle has been the backbone fill-
ing the talent pipeline for garages, service stations and other automotive aftermarket players over generations. It has provided diverse knowledge, competences and skill sets from mechanics and mechatronics to service business and trade. Usually, this public system consists of vocational training institutions, universities of applied science and classic universities. The system has also introduced and included training elements for upskilling following the needs of the market and the technological changes. The task to keep up with the demands of the time, to foster competitive skillsets and to create capacity building for particular industries or sectors has been perceived as a societal function, something that is important for all.
Simultaneously, large corporations and multinational enterprises have developed their own in-house training and education systems to keep their talent pipelines filled and well-equipped. In automotive aftermarket, this has naturally focused more on particular brands and dealerships. Notably, these training and education solutions are

generated by the private sector needs serving the strategies of individual companies, not those of regions or societal segments. Furthermore, they are different as they may not provide classic degrees or diplomas that are accredited by state institutions or accreditation agencies. Hence, the value of such education in another context may be contested, which creates an issue of skill transferability.
This is particularly an issue for mobile talents who wish to employ their skills in a different country or state, as professional certificates issued by private companies may not be valid or acknowledged in the new country. Hence, mobility of talent calls for better formal transferability of skills that enable full engagement of skills in a variety of contexts. In the EU public sector education context, most degrees and diplomas are subject to an acknowledgement program that attempts to create comparable and transferable educational outputs. These outputs may be full degree programs or smaller modular accredited training certificates. The idea is to allow intra-EU mobility of talent in a smooth manner serving European labour markets whilst avoiding brain waste, i.e. under - or unemployment of talent.
As the efforts to create a European labour market have progressed, the attention has often been on university diplomas and less on vocational training.
Yet, many European countries have available solutions that could be benchmarked. For example, there are special dual education systems and systems of apprenticeship that result in competitive skillsets for the automotive aftermarket. Flexible education allows for smooth talent development, already in parallel with the high school (see: https://www.raseko.fi/en/learning-environments/ car-service-and-repair/). Unfortunately, such systems often remain local or regional “champions”.
The future of educational systems for AA requires more attention for multiple reasons. Firstly, there have been cuts in the public funding budgets within many countries that have resulted in a reduction in the level of educational resources devoted to developing diverse experts for the automotive aftermarkets. Yet due to the demographic changes, many European countries are in an era of increasing demand for a better talent pipeline . Secondy, the megatrends affecting the automotive aftermarket call for increasing demand for skill advancement also content-wise, e.g. for the electrification. Thirdly, the cost-cutting in public education sends a signal to the youth that the sector is not future-proof or of value to society. Fourthly, a narrower focus on public education programs produces rigid pathways for a particular task and not the kind of flexible and future-loaded competences and skills students wish to acquire. Finally, the decreasing resources
of the public sector education push for a development of a corporate dominance in education and training that will further complicate the status of the independent automotive aftermarket and its future talent pipeline. Therefore, the efforts of TALENTS4AA and University of Southern Denmark (SDU) - in collaboration with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and GARAC - to generate discussions on the importance of education and training with different stakeholders are well-received by students. For example, our SDU students have great ideas and viewpoints on how to develop the sector: we developed different options for diagonal educational pathways in a classroom exercise in collaboration with BOSCH.
We argue that the contemporary youth need flexible educational pathways which enable them to develop competitive and useful skills and competences that can be employed in multiple settings. Automotive aftermarket players and respective institutions could further enhance their collaboration with public education and training to demonstrate the actual societal importance of the automotive aftermarket sector and connect earlier with future talent to co-create the solutions needed for a sustainable future.
What would you say is Valeo’s training strategy at a global level?
Damien Martin: Training at Valeo has long been a priority of ours. Valeo’s global training strategy aims to support professionals in aftermarket mobility transformations as their trusted technical advisor. We recognize the importance of addressing challenges such as the reluctance

of independent workshops to service hybrid vehicles, as revealed by a mystery shopping study where 70% of workshops declined brake pad replacements and directed customers to OEM dealers. With the increasing prevalence of electrified vehicles, it is crucial that independent aftermarket workshops possess the necessary knowledge and expertise to confidently maintain and repair such vehicles.
Did Covid-19 have a big impact on training?
D. M.: Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, mechanics primarily required “face-to-face training” with minimal digitalization. However, due to Covid-induced changes, online training became the only option to meet workshops’ training needs. Thanks to Valeo’s proactive preparation and deployment, a comprehensive portfolio of webinar training was introduced from the start of the pandemic.
So, you are in a strong position to deal with the challenges that the pandemic created?
D. M.: Absolutely. We have a robust on-line training platform called TechAssist which can also be integrated into our Customers’ own digital platforms. Thanks to this offer, we have achieved
significant growth, delivering 127,000 training hours in 2022.
Wow! That’s a huge number of training hours. Do you think all training will be done online from now on?
D. M.: No, I do not think so. Now there is a growing demand for “face-to-face” training once again, mainly focused on hands-on training. Valeo believes in strengthening technical knowledge through a balanced combination of online and face-to-face training sessions.
How has Valeo Service shifted its focus beyond conventional discussions in the IAM to prioritise the technician as an important player in the auto industry?
D. M.: Well, technicians are the ones selecting the parts and fitting Valeo’s products. They must be perfectly informed! Valeo acknowledges this by emphasizing the importance of technician knowledge in part selection and fitting. They identify two KPIs: time to find the failure origin and warranty repairs. Accurate diagnosis is crucial as workshops often can’t charge for diagnostic time, and 98% of warranty claims are rejected due to installation errors. Valeo aims to help workshops maximize revenue and optimize labor time through proper training, especially with the rise of new technologies like electrification and ADAS systems. We firmly believe that business profitability is directly linked to training and so offer a comprehensive training portfolio.
Questioner: So what is Valeo offering the market in terms of training?
D. M.: Every product receives tailored training content, regardless of its technical complexity, and is divided into three knowledge levels: Basic,
Advanced, and Expert. Each level allows technicians to progress according to their needs and expertise. The Basic level introduces each system and its components, the Advanced level delves into system features and technologies; and the Expert level covers repair, replacement, and advanced diagnostics procedures.
The whole technical training offer covers from Traditional Product Lines (ICE-related products) to New Technologies (covering electrification, ADAS and new components).
And what about the future of training?
D. M.: Moving forwards, Valeo will continue to offer hands-on experience in “face-to-face” sessions and enhance the digital experience with video tutorials, 3D exploded images, visual aids, and step-by-step guides. The online platform also allows for measuring the trainee’s acquired knowledge.
How does the Valeo training offer fit into the N! Academy roadmap?
D. M.: As one of the members of the N! Academy Steering Committee, Valeo plays a crucial role in shaping the N! Academy Training road map through continuous collaboration.
In 2022, Valeo trained 6,468 Nexus customers, with 4,277 taking online courses and 2,191 participating in face-to-face sessions. The training was not limited to Nexus workshops alone; Valeo also conducted “Train The Trainer (TTT)” sessions for over 200 N! Members, focusing on new technologies like ADAS and Electrification. Additional “face-to-face” sessions were deployed in Germany, Spain (Madrid & Barcelona), and planned for in India, combining fullday training with factory visits.
Our mission consists in empowering N! Trainers as knowledge catalysts, spreading Valeo’s expertise far and wide.

Working on electrified cars is now part of everyday life in automotive workshops. However, without the correct training, workshop employees are not allowed to touch an electric or hybrid vehicle by hand; a rule which even applies to simple maintenance work on conventional vehicle systems.
High-voltage training by ZF Aftermarket, consisting of coordinated e-learning and practical hands-on training, ensures optimal learning success with significantly reduced attendance times and thus lower costs. The leading solution provider offers training for all levels of high-voltage competence, up to and including the ability to carry out work on live components.
The DGUV (German Statutory Accident Insurance) has identified three areas for which differing training regulations apply and for uniformity, has determined that a teaching unit (TU) is equal to 45 minutes.
The three areas are:
1. Operating vehicles: This includes activities which the driver himself could also carry out. As well as refuelling a vehicle and changing consumables, simple service work such as changing a wiper blade now requires a basic level of training in high-voltage systems.
2. Non-electrical work: More extensive training (0.5-2 TU) is required for mechanical work and repairs to the 12-volt vehicle electrical system and the 48-volt components of modern hybrid cars, as the components could have been damaged during the process.
3. Electrical engineering work: This involves troubleshooting, removal and installation of high-voltage components. For these, automotive mechatronics technicians require training of at least 8 TU (theoretical part) plus 4 to 8 TU of practical experience. This applies to so-called intrinsically safe vehicles (usually passenger cars). Work on non-intrinsically safe vehicles (such as commercial vehicles or vehicles involved in accidents) requires a minimum of 40 TU of training if the employee already has previous electrical engineering knowledge in the automotive field (such as training as a mechatronics technician). (The level of training here equates to ZF HV Expert Level 2.) Work on live high-voltage components (e.g.replacing battery cells) requires additional qualifications (Equating to the later mentioned ZF level 3).
This all shows the level of training commitment necessary. By employing a blended learning approach of on-line and classroom training, ZF Aftermarket significantly reduces employee
downtime and therefore reduces cost. A twopart course will equip a delegate with the ZF ’high-voltage expert level 2’ qualification needed to carry out electrical engineering work on vehicles. Entry requirements are competency based, after passing an initial exam.
As the theoretical parts are taught via e-learnings, the classroom training - including practical exercises - takes only three days. Corresponding to the expert for high-voltage systems level 2 according to DGUV-Information 200-005, this qualification will enable delegates to replace components, troubleshoot as well as switch the HV system on and off
In addition to levels 1 and 2, ZF Aftermarket also offers training for car workshops to become a ZF high-voltage expert level 3 (corresponds to the training “Expert for high-voltage systems level 3”). The focus here is on working on high-voltage components that are under voltage.
The ZF [pro]Academy offers a variety of opportunities to support the daily business of workshops and to get fit for Next Generation Mobility. Topics to choose from include driveline, chassis and brakes, as well as steering technology. Since modern vehicles have a high number of electronic parts, ZF also offers trainings on vehicle electrics, electronics and high-voltage technology. To round up the topics there are also courses on corporate management, human resources, services and marketing.
Clear and comprehensible: VARTA® E-Learnings rely on easy accessibility to impart knowledge on all relevant battery topics. The new xEV series covers drivetrain electrification and the role of the 12V battery in electric vehicles.
