1. THE BIG BANG

THE LAUNCH OF NEXUS AUTOMOTIVE INTERNATIONAL

Videos testimonials available here.

Per definition, the naming of NEXUS stands for “an important connection between the parts of a system or a group of things” and, in particular, an assembly of individuals that work with a common goal – and that’s exactly what our vision is.

The driving force behind this is the perpetual quest for fresh avenues of growth and improvement, a constant challenge to both oneself and the industry, the exploration of new horizons, and the creation of a genuine sense of community and familial bonds. It all began with that initial spark in the Château de Méry near Paris in December 2013, and after a decade, it continues to burn brightly.

The ethos and purpose are covered in the NEXUS Management guide, which was composed by Gaël Escribe, Thierry Mugnier, Bas Donders and Philippe Guyot. Trust and support from the board led by Akhram Sharour (Abukhader) and initially formed by the distributors’ representatives of ID Rechange (France), Dinamik Auto (Turkey), Bcc (Belgium), HL Group (Finland), Global Spare Group (Italy), The Parts Alliance (United Kingdom), Abukadher (Jordan) and IDAP (Spain), have been a fundamental part of our success.

At the beginning, the process took the combined efforts of all involved sought to find the best solutions available in order to bring further innovation into the automotive industry. Many meetings were held to take hold of what was initially an entrepreneurial idea and shape it into a real company. After a first attempt in 2009, all the entrepreneurs involved in the process settled on launching NEXUS in December 2013.

Having direct members in 137 countries

On March 5th, 2014, we officially introduced NEXUS to the aftermarket industry with a kick-off event held in Geneva, bringing together the NEXUS shareholders and suppliers. Invitations to join our new-born community soon followed with the first contracts signed with NRF, Delphi and Mann+Hummel.

This event was followed by a NEXUS full update conference during Automechanika Frankfurt 2014 at which the management and the board proudly shared news of the significant company developments that had taken place in only the first 9 months. This included the further expansion into North Africa and Middle East; as well announcing the partnership of 49 contracted suppliers.

It is in this occasion that we also started to produce IN!SIDE, the editorial magazine with updates, news and market feedbacks. Originally distributed as a NEXUS update journal, it has transformed into a paper hub for suppliers, members and experts to share their perspectives, insights and opinions significantly influencing the automotive industry.

Featuring in-depth analyses, visionary opinions, and industry forecasts, IN!SIDE has become an invaluable resource for professionals across the automotive aftermarket sector. Since its inaugural issue in June 2014, ‘IN!SIDE’ has published over 34 editions, reaching a global audience quarterly and solidifying its status as a key publication in the automotive aftermarket industry.

CHAPTER 01

The European Genesis

In the early beginning, we were deeply rooted in Europe and the Middle East, with a strong ambition to further grow in those countries and expand into regions of Africa.

We were inspired by the diversity of the European automotive aftermarket, the rich heritage of the automotive industry, and the network of distributors who were eager to collaborate and innovate. With Europe as the foundation, we established strong relationships with distributors and manufacturers, identifying their needs and understanding the challenges they faced in a rapidly evolving industry.

Whilst we cherished our European roots, the vision was always global. We recognized a strong need for the automotive aftermarket to grow in emerging and developing countries. The EMEA region, with its diverse cultures, economies and automotive landscapes, beckoned us. We saw an opportunity not just to expand geographically, but to bring our values, expertise, and collaborative approach to a wider audience.

We therefore started to enrich our EMEA members base: from Africa and the Middle East believing there were not only interesting opportunities for European suppliers but a need for services and support for local distributors.

2. THE EARLY UNIVERSE

THE FIRST OUTSIDE EMEA EXPANSION

Videos testimonials available here.

The flourishing interest from US stakeholders in Europe served as a catalyst, propelling us beyond the borders of the EMEA regions. This expansion took us on an exciting journey, venturing into the promising lands of Latin America with the establishment of NEXUS Brazil - with the first partner represented by SK Automotive, who joined in 2014.

In June 2015, we also announced our first partnership in the United States with the membership of Automotive Distribution Network. This was the first step into the acceleration of the NEXUS presence in the North America region and led to the creation of the NEXUS North America regional structure.

At the same time, we set our sights on the strategic leap of exploring the vast potential of the Asian market.

/17 NEXUS Automotive International 10 years of growth CHAPTER 02

The inaugural distributors were Shanghai Yuan Tai (China) and Fong Tat Group (Singapore), which were both announced in June 2015. We adopted a meticulous, step-bystep approach, commencing with a comprehensive market analysis, followed by the attraction of new members, and culminating in the appointment of a local representative. Today, owing to the robust foundation laid by our regional framework, NEXMENTO, we take pride in our formidable and continually expanding network in China.

Having a very decentralized set-up

The basis of this expansive journey was trust. Distributors across Europe had come to rely on us for innovative solutions, access to a diverse array of suppliers, and a collaborative ecosystem that enabled their businesses to flourish. This trust served as the cornerstone upon which we built our efforts to transcend the boundaries of the EMEA regions. Distributors from Latin America, China, and Australia, placed their confidence in our organization, acknowledging the value we could bring to their enterprises.

Our global expansion was not merely a strategic business action; it was a response to the evolving landscape of the automotive aftermarket. As the industry continued to transform, distributors worldwide were confronted with raising challenges.

These obstacles include the pressing need for efficient supply chain solutions, access to top-tier products and support in adapting to the dynamics of the market. We are uniquely placed to address these requirements, by leveraging and growing our network of trusted suppliers and a loyal commitment to innovation.

NEXUS EVENTS 3. THE STARS

Videos testimonials available here.

Among the three pillars that uphold NEXUS’s identity, “Community” stands tall, and it is through a unique approach to organised events that this sense of community thrives and grows.

In the picturesque shores of Montreux, NEXUS hosted the first official NEXUS Business Forum in January 2015, marking its game-changing presence in the automotive aftermarket industry.

“NEXUS’ mission has always been clear - to give all its members across the globe the opportunity to join us at these events, thereby creating a diverse and inclusive community.“

N! BF Abu Dhabi was the first outside Europe continent event held by N!, and even as first ITG, highlighting the shaping up of a truly global innovative progressive community. In March 2018, we organised the first global gathering outside Europe in the vibrant ambiance of Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit. Here we channelled the energy of its global membership to create unique experiences that perfectly blend business and friendships. Abu Dhabi was such a remarkable happening as it truly reflected the perception of NEXUS moving from being a challenger in the aftermarket ecosystem to becoming a respectful opinion leader.

These events, often referred to as the lifeblood of NEXUS, have been instrumental in forging connections that transcend geographical boundaries. But it has not always been a smooth ride.

Virtual Days, 2021

N!

The year 2020 marked a pivotal moment in NEXUS’s event history. The annual Business Forum in Amsterdam, a highly anticipated gathering of industry leaders, faced an unexpected adversary - the rising tide of the pandemic. With countries closing borders and travel restrictions tightening, Amsterdam unfolded just before border restrictions were imposed, a mere two days after its conclusion.

It served as a crucible, testing NEXUS’s resilience and unwavering commitment to nurturing its distinct sense of community, even amidst formidable challenges.

Moreover, NEXUS demonstrated its inventive strategy during the pandemic’s travel restrictions by continuously providing its partners opportunities to connect and convene in a virtual space. This online arena allowed members and suppliers globally to participate in presentations, webinars, and B2B meetings. The NEXUS Virtual Days, a hybrid event, featured the NEXUS team broadcasting live to an international audience. This event also included notable highlights like the virtual presentation of the NEXUS members and suppliers of the year awards to the recipients.

In this quest to unite people from around the world, NEXUS found a new home for its annual event, first in Vienna and then Montreal.

The mission of NEXUS has always been clear - to give all its members across the globe the opportunity to join us at these events, thereby creating a diverse and inclusive community. NEXUS events, whilst rooted in business, transcend the realm of mere commerce. They are a place where relationships are forged, ideas are shared and a genuine sense of belonging is cultivated.

But NEXUS’s commitment to its community doesn’t stop at global events. It has also kept its promise to suppliers, ensuring that whilst they are global in reach, they act as ‘local’ in their approach. This commitment materialized through the organization of regional events, named the “NEXUS Connecting Days.” These gatherings brought together local NEXUS structures and suppliers, creating a platform for localized interactions and business opportunities. The relationship between NEXUS members and suppliers flourished thanks to the cultural and regional understanding inherent in these events.

The Connecting Days were not just business transactions; they were moments of shared growth, where global businesses became local partners. The power of these events lay in their ability to blend the global scope of NEXUS with the specific needs and nuances of each region. This unique approach served as a proof to NEXUS’s commitment to its community and its belief that real change happens when people connect.

Through the highs and lows of its event history, NEXUS Automotive International has continued to stand as a beacon of connection and community within the automotive industry. The annual gatherings and regional Connecting Days have given birth to a unique culture within NEXUS, one in which people from every corner of the world, from the East to the West, North to South find a sense of belonging, a space to connect, and a stage to drive innovation within the automotive aftermarket. Events, it seems, have become the heartbeat of NEXUS, and in every gathering, the community grows stronger, more vibrant and more united than ever before.

Nowadays, the ‘event-factory’ of NEXUS is running over 20 events and shows throughout the year.

In 2017, NEXUS started to actively participate in global automotive shows such as Equip’Auto Paris and Automechanika with its own booth as central reference points for its community visiting these shows.

Automechanika was also a unique global event, symbol of NEXUS’s community, culminating in an “after party” that stood out due to the impressive presence and the vibrant energy displayed by the attendees. Additionally, we organized various events: the Supplier Christmas gathering, a day-long event exclusively for NEXUS Suppliers to wrap up the year and discuss upcoming strategies, and the NEXUS Classic Tour, a genuine vintage car rally through the picturesque roads of France. It provided a stage for reintroducing classic brands offered by N! Suppliers, and emphasized the significance of classic car business in the automotive aftermarket.

After achieving its first 10B milestone in September 2016, which was symbolic celebrated by a venturous climb of the magnificent Swiss-French mountains, ‘reaching new heights’ by the NEXUS board members, embarking to leave an indelible mark on the occasion, followed by a joyfully celebration in 2019 of its first half-decade of activity.

The year not only marked our 5 th anniversary but also witnessed NEXUS achieving a further milestone – reaching a remarkable 20 billion euros in turnover, propelling us to new heights in the fiercely competitive automotive aftermarket industry.

The achievements of 2019 - spanning geographical expansions and financial accomplishments - without doubt positioned it as a pivotal year, solidifying the trust and confidence our partners and stakeholders had in NEXUS.

These remarkable achievements were the result of the tireless collaborative efforts of our dedicated team, members and suppliers.

To celebrate these successes, we organized a special celebration in Paris with the main global members and suppliers to underline the importance of unity in our journey, including dedicated ‘awards of honours’ to those who believed in NEXUS from its start and supported us on our journey.

Moreover, 2019 marked the moment in which we had to think of new challenges and aspire to even greater heights in the future. The pressure was on to deliver innovative services that would not only revolutionize the market but also offer solutions that would benefit our suppliers and members.

“It was a remarkable year. We were presented with an ‘award of honour,’ which for us was the ultimate honour to be part of such a dynamic and rapidly growing community, contributing to our resources and bolstering the collective growth.”

ON THE ROAD TO THE DIVERSIFICATION

Videos testimonials available here.

When discussing the automotive aftermarket, the primary focus is typically on the passenger car sector. This is understandable, as the market revolves around products and services for car owners and workshops. Nonetheless, there’s a significant segment within this industry that holds equal importance and drives business for both distributors and manufacturers: the heavy-duty sector.

In 2015, with the launch of the NEXUSTRUCK workshop network, we shifted our attention to the heavy-duty sector by launching dedicated initiatives. Thanks to the collaboration our members, such as URVI who organized and hosted the network kick-off in Valencia in April 2015. The event saw more than 100 people participating during the Truck Racing Championship.

The truck division grew so much that we made the decision in 2018 to establish a dedicated division. We appointed Janusz Zielinski, an expert in the heavy-duty field, as our Global Heavy-Duty Director.

Janusz Zielinski commented: “Coming from the heavy-duty business, I fully understood NEXUS’s need to create a distinct business line. The heavy-duty sector is strategically significant, and manufacturers require support, especially in regions where opportunities arise daily. We initially focused on European countries and rapidly expanded our network from the Nordic regions to the connection between Asia and Europe, and even into Nord and Latin America.”

/37 NEXUS Automotive International 10 years of growth
CHAPTER 05

“At the outset, it wasn’t easy to determine our direction. We began by assessing the needs of our suppliers and current heavy-duty distributors. Several key distributors were already part of the NEXUS family, and our goal was to ensure their continued growth whilst providing prime opportunities for our suppliers.”

A significant milestone for NEXUS was the inclusion of Pascoli Group as a member, which also became a shareholder of NEXUS. This development opened new horizons in the Italian aftermarket and accelerated the growth of NEXUS Italia’s regional structure.

Beyond business, we recognized the need for a closer-knit community within this specific sector, one that shared a common language and aimed for the same objectives. To foster this sense of community, we began as sponsors of the Lion Truck Racing Team. We continue to support them at the annual racing championship, and they graciously hosted us during our first appearance at Automechanika Frankfurt 2016, decorating one of their trucks as the NEXUS office and booth during the show.

CHAPTER 05
“This event marked the official creation of a true truck community.”

In alignment with our core values, we initiated dedicated events for heavy-duty stakeholders, starting with the inaugural N! Truck Connecting Days in Lyon in 2019, followed by a specific plenary session during the annual Business Forum.

“The first N! Business Forum Truck in 2019 generated a lot of excitement. We were uncertain about what to expect from the attending members, but it turned out to be a memorable event, culminating with a visit to Solutrans, one of Europe’s most significant Heavy Duty shows. This event marked the official creation of a true truck community.”

The Heavy-Duty division expanded swiftly across the globe, and several NEXUS initiatives were tailored to suit this market segment. A network of workshops under the NEXUSTRUCK brand was established in Lithuania; and new N! Service solutions such as N! Road Assist, Workshop Operating Platform and HD N! Academy were offered to Members and Partner Workshops.

Today, we take immense pride in our truck community, which remains steadfastly dedicated to upholding NEXUS’s values and spirit, with 66 Members and over 66 Suppliers representing 17 % of NEXUS sell-out volumes.

CHAPTER 06

NEXUS ACADEMY

Our journey began in 2016 with the launch of the NEXUS Academy project and the establishment of the NEXUSAUTO network.

Thierry Mugnier, our NEXUS CFIO and a driving force behind the NEXUS Academy’s development, fondly recalls our very first NEXUS Academy event in Annecy.

“We initiated a three-day NEXUS Academy middle management training program, attracting members from all corners of the world. The enthusiasm shown by our NEXUS members and the dedication of our suppliers gave us the immediate confidence that the Academy project was the right move, adding substantial value to our community.”

That event marked the initial step on a path that would evolve into a comprehensive academy, involving all members of our organizations, from technicians in the workshops to sales managers and directors. Everyone had the opportunity to receive direct training from NEXUS part -

ners and suppliers, establishing a direct link with NEXUS members. This connection provides access to invaluable resources and cultivates strong partnerships that ‘bridge’ geographical distances.

At the heart of our values are innovation and community which are the cornerstones of these projects. They’ve expanded into a wide range of online and offline offerings, supported by dedicated teams and additional services to ensure the best training experience for all.

Moreover, some of our members have seized the opportunity presented by the NEXUS Academy to make a difference not only in their own businesses but also in the lives of their employees. For example, NEXUS member TVS, with support from the NEXUS Academy Team and NEXUS management, has established a training center in India. This NEXUS knowledge center offers opportunities for employees to learn and grow, improving both their professional skills and personal lives.

NEXUS Automotive International 10 years of growth 44/ CHAPTER 06

NEXUSAUTO

The NEXUS Academy program was established in tandem with the development of the NEXUSAUTO workshop concept. Officially ‘kicking-off’ in May 2015, our mission was clear: to immerse ourselves in the very heart of our industry, which beats within the workshops. This might seem ambitious, and indeed, it remains an ongoing challenge, but workshops serve as the tangible gateway to the vast universe of the automotive industry.

Engaging with workshops goes beyond mere dialogue; it enables us to gain a deeper understanding of market needs, creating an unrivalled “National Quality accredited network.” Moreover, it allows us to collaborate in addressing such needs by offering innovative products and services to all participants within the complex process chain.

The landscape is competitive, multifaceted, and intricate. A myriad of barriers, including language, culture, buying behaviors, and driving habits, can prove obstacles to the global advancement of our project. Despite these challenges, we embarked on this journey, and it has led us to establish a presence in 23 countries with a combined total of 740 NEXUSAUTO workshops.

“When I joined NEXUS in 2021, the NEXUSAUTO concept was already a reality. The

very first one was launched in France by ID Rechange,” remarked Florian Precigout, NEXUS Service Concepts Director.

Garage concept evolution & service provider

In 2022, we embraced a new strategic direction, focusing on Garage service offerings. This shift was driven by our commitment to staying ahead of industry trends and meeting the evolving needs of our partners and customers.

Today, NEXUS stands not just as a network developer but as a premier service provider for independent garages. We are proud to support and empower garage owners, equipping them with the up-to-date kit, technology and the knowledge to succeed in a competitive market.

Looking ahead, we aim to connect 25,000 garages to our service ecosystem. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about strengthening a community that values quality, innovation, and collaboration.

Florian Precigout added: “Offering you the realistic opportunity to set-up a network of 25,000 independent garages in 2025 is not a proposal you receive every day. I embraced this challenge with my team and every day I am proud to not only be building a global network but also shaping the future of the independent garage industry.”

DR!VE+

When we introduced DR!VE+, we were only too aware that we were challenging the status quo of the market. Why would an ITG consider offering a private label brand to its community?

“With the creation of DR!VE+ we intended to progressively engage our Community into both strategic and pragmatic projects. This included rationalizing our multiple private label sources, making efficiency gains and offering adequate logistics solutions for all. At stake, in the short term, was meeting clear targets.”

In the words of Nicholas Russ, Global Sourcing Director at NEXUS, “It’s actually a tremendous opportunity for both our members and suppliers. What we bring to our community is top-tier aftermarket products of OEM quality, which they can distribute worldwide. DR!VE+ is not just a brand; it’s a comprehensive 360-degree solution.”

Suppliers stand to gain from the private label by gaining access to new, competitive markets, with unwavering support from the NEXUS team. We initially started with a limited range of product categories, which has grown over time, thanks to the commitment of our suppliers who began to believe in the project and reaped its benefits.

DR!VE+ was launched in September 2015 and today it has become a distinct entity. Our product catalog has expanded significantly, and we’ve established warehouses and distribution centers. There’s no compromise on quality; we ensure that our products meet aftermarket and OEM standards, in addition to upholding environmental and certification requirements.

In November 2023 we launched SmartParts, a platform for the deployment of the DR!VE+ brand around the world. The organization, managed by Pascal Popis, is committed to consolidating the current private brand purchases of the N! members and offers a regionally relevant approach to its members worldwide. In addition, SmartParts will leverage product development and sourcing capabilities in order to expand services within the N! network and support the ‘on-going’ evolution within the industry; and develop transactional activities and provide NEXUS suppliers with new opportunities.

7. THE PLANETS

NEXUS REGIONAL STRUCTURES

Videos testimonials available here.

Since the beginning, we have embarked on a rapid global expansion, having come from an international background with a sharp awareness of the complexities involved in managing local businesses.

Many of the major manufacturers in the automotive aftermarket have embraced a model of local autonomy. This approach enables direct engagement with partners, as it ensures that all parties speak the same language and share a unified business culture.

The inaugural N! regional structures found its roots in Italy. This decision was not solely due to the representation amongst the founding board members of NEXUS but was also driven by the unique characteristics of the Italian market, which significantly differentiates it from other European countries. Italy boasts a rich cultural heritage deriving from renowned automotive manufacturers that have achieved iconic status in the industry. Coupled with a complex supply chain and language barriers, this prompted the creation of a well-structured network of distributors capable of interacting directly with workshops and manufacturers.

The regional structure proved to be a resounding success. Guided by charismatic entrepreneurs and assisted by ambitious distributors, the network enthusiastically embraced all NEXUS initiatives. These initiatives were skilfully adapted to cater to the Italian market’s specific needs. In 2021, we proudly hosted the inaugural N! Italia Connecting Days, which achieved remarkable success. The dedication of our members, combined with the keen interest of N! suppliers and their Italian counterparts, created a vibrant atmosphere teeming with opportunities and future visions.

CHAPTER 07

As M. Tancredi Sasson, Chairman of NEXUS Automotive Italia and CEO of MOVIDIS SRL, noted: “Being part of N! Italia offers us a dual advantage: the ability to engage globally in shaping and defining new services and projects, whilst also effectively implementing these initiatives into action. This allows us to provide the best support to our partners on both a local and global scale.”

Taking a cue from the successful model of NEXUS Italia, similar structures were established around the world, and NEXUS is now represented by 16 regional organizations. These structures flourished due to the collaborative efforts of NEXUS members, as well as the harmonious collaboration between local and global teams, with remarkable business results and increased visibility.

Our daily mission revolves around connecting with local partners, creating even more opportunities, and expanding N! services to offer the best support to manufacturers and suppliers. Recognizing that regional structures alone were no longer sufficient, we sought a different approach. This approach connects the core philosophy of N! local organizations to a broader geographical scope. IAMaga and NEXMENTO are the initiatives born from this innovative strategy. We no longer think in terms of regions, but rather envision part of a continent where we perceive a heightened need for support and growth.

CHAPTER 07

NEXUS officially launched its operations in China in 2015 and established NEXMENTO in 2020. To date, NEXMENTO has gathered nearly 110 high-quality members, primarily concentrated in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, with nationwide business coverage. This diverse membership includes well-known traditional automotive parts distributors, e-commerce platforms, regional procurement alliances, and more. James Zhang, N! China business developer and CEO of NEXMENTO, expressed his honour in leading NEXMENTO, describing it not only as a business accelerator for Chinese members but also as a community where members share common values. He emphasizes that their relationships transcend business, creating a genuine sense of family.

IAMaga represents African members of NEXUS Automotive International, with a mission to provide aftermarket support services that propel N! members to the next level. IAMaga’s approach extends beyond delivering standard NEXUS services, offering unique activities tailored to meet the specific needs of African members. Martin Hendriksen, VP Sales & Business Development – Africa, Middle East, Australia, Strategic Planning & Customer Experience Director, and IAMAGA CEO, emphasizes the complexities and uniqueness of Africa as a continent.

NEXUS members joining IAMAGA feel well-supported, engaging in genuine opportunities to deliver high-quality services to workshops, support local communities, and collaborate with global suppliers to ensure safe and trustworthy services. This commitment extends to facilitating business growth, overcoming cultural and political barriers that have hither to the immense potential of the continent. It has also contributed to social development by creating new job and employment opportunities whilst respecting the dignity of every individual in the country.

FROM COMMUNITY MANAGER TO INVESTOR AND OPINION LEADER

Videos testimonials available here.

In recent years, the industry has undergone a significant transformation. The business no longer revolves solely around the sale and distribution of spare parts. Instead, there is now a heightened demand for quality and service at every level of the supply chain. NEXUS, recognizing the changing landscape, proactively initiated collaborations with partners from diverse industries and backgrounds.

NEXUS has solidified its market position as an ‘influencing accelerator’ by forging close ties with leading federations in the automotive industry and beyond. This includes Figiefa, Carmunication, the World Economic Forum, and many others. As the first ITG group to actively engage in discussions, we have established partnerships with these associations, with the goal of addressing the diverse challenges in the automotive aftermarket.

Over time, we have evolved from being a facilitator in the spare parts business to a business accelerator, with a strategic focus on pivotal and landscape-changing topics such as sustainability and mobility. This shift reflects our commitment to navigating and shaping the future of the automotive industry.

“Since its creation, NEXUS has placed innovation at the heart of its investment strategy. The major challenges facing our sector between now and 2035 - electrification, digitalisation and consolidation - can only be overcome if we innovate and stay as close as possible to the ecosystems.” remarked Thierry Mugnier, Chief Financial and Innovation Officer at NEXUS.

Much like actual satellites orbiting in space, NEXUS has cultivated an ecosystem of innovative companies, each with a singular mission: to drive the evolution of the automotive industry. By addressing the challenges and issues of today, we’ve united industry leaders and stakeholders to craft solutions across critical and promising domains, with a primary focus on three pillars: digitalization, sustainability, and talent management.

We gather entrepreneurs from our industry and beyond to reflect together on the creation of effective strategies to grow the automotive aftermarket. The ‘NEXUS Prospective Council’ has emerged as a significant and elite gathering, uniting “VIP” participants to examine, debate, and devise solutions for present challenges in our market. Annually, this assembly of intellects gathers for two meetings in unique global locations, and the results of these sessions are consistently exceptional and gratifying.

“Bringing solutions to support the automotive sector“
NEXUS Automotive International 10 years of growth 58/ CHAPTER 08

At the beginning of 2020, Nexus Automotive International and Mobilion Ventures embarked on a mission to cultivate extraordinary technology-based business opportunities and uphold the NEXUS commitment to extend its impact beyond the automotive aftermarket.

This attempt gave rise to the establishment of the pioneering early-stage global Sustainable Mobility Venture Capital Fund, uniquely dedicated to Automotive Aftermarket innovations. In this unique initiative, Mobilion Ventures succeeded in establishing multiple strategic partnerships with many industries and corporate giants such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Delphi, ComfortDelGro, Kauffman Group, Nissens, Afifi Group and many of NEXUS members. These include SK Automotive, ID Rechange, Kapico, AK Group, Zbeda

and others. They provide ground for POCs, market validations, market channel and support for the entrepreneurs.

Today, Mobilion Ventures is a well-known global leader focused on a broader scope of smart mobility investments including Energy and batteries, Digital Mobility and Insurance Services, Fleet Management and MaaS, Logistics, Value Chain Solutions, Urban Mobility, Areal technologies and more.

Mobilion Ventures established its reputation in the global arena by its unique consumer centric approach that led its portfolio of companies to achieve faster market penetration, whilst lowering the associated risk. Recently, the Fund led an M&A to one of its portfolio companies named Algolion that was sold to General Motors. This led to great finan-

cial returns to the Fund and its LP’s. This M&A deal also stands out as a strong testimonial from a major OEM in favor of Mobilion’s investment decisions. But not only Algolion, Mobilion’s entire portfolio is fast emerging as a growing group of commercial companies that are active in diversified mobility markets. Some of the companies are becoming market leaders in their prospective domains, such asClick-Ins, Clearly and CaPow, whilst others are already global market leaders such as Ki-Mobility in India and Service Next in the Iberian Peninsula.

Avi Feldman, the CEO and Founder of Mobilion Ventures, said, “We are a leading global Sustainable Mobility VC Fund that supports serial entrepreneurs in building the future mobility products and services. It’s a place where cutting-edge technologies converge with highly skilled talents, fostering a platform for ideas and innovation to emerge into leading market solutions. Over the years, we’ve witnessed the rapid ascent of numerous startups within the automotive panorama, delivering intelligent and transformative solutions that resonate with real-world climate impact. Our overarching ambition is to empower automotive distributors, manufacturers, Tier1’s and fleet operators in translating their needs into tangible commercial solutions and assist them in obtaining additional global markets.”

We take great pride in announcing that all the startups that we have previously showcased in past NEXUS Business Forum events have now evolved into performing companies, actively shaping the future landscape of the automotive industry.

At the beginning of 2024, Mobilion Ventures will start it’s fundraising for its second global Fund of $100M, which will make investments mainly in Europe, US, and Israel; with brand new offices in Paris and Tel Aviv.

We invite you to approach the Managing Partners and the team in order to get more details on how to join the Fund. It has already achieved proven success and actively participates in shaping the future of mobility, topped with great financial returns.

/61 NEXUS Automotive International 10 years of growth CHAPTER 08

By actively participating in automotive associations and federations, we have gained a comprehensive 360° perspective of the automotive aftermarket. Our involvement in conferences, round tables, panels, and discussions has afforded us the invaluable opportunity to delve deeply into the market, understanding not only its business aspects but also its day-to-day needs and opportunities.

Similar to numerous industries, the automotive aftermarket faces a pressing challenge – a scarcity of skilled individuals across all levels, from mechanics in workshops to managerial roles in distributorships and manufacturing or service companies. Recognizing the less-than-attractive nature of our sector, we embraced this challenge and initiated an internal project within our company, as was decided in the NEXUS prospective Council. This project aimed to assess the requirements and identify where and how we could intervene and help address the talent shortage issue.

The outcome of our efforts, quickly combined with those of other ITGs or suppliers. The precursors to this were Temot & Bosch, which materialized into the well-received initiative known as “Talents4AA.” This is an industry non-profit association dedicated to promoting the market, attracting and retaining talents, and developing solutions to meet both local and global needs. This initiative draws strength from the collective competence and experience of its members, who have been part of the journey since day one. The association was officially created in March 2021 after nearly 3 years of preliminary work and research.

NEXUS Automotive International 10 years of growth 62/ CHAPTER 08

Presently, we are actively involved in planning strategies and solutions to elevate our industry, actively involving new talents in shaping its future alongside us. Most ITGs and Tier 1 suppliers are now members of the association, which launched its www.jobs.automotive.com digital platform in January 2024 to connect industry players with the job market.

We recognize that it is the younger generations who can invigorate our business, bringing forth innovative ideas and skills that the older generation, still prevalent in our market, may not be readily equipped to acquire. Also, that there’s a need to overcome discrepancies caused by the heritage of a male driven industry, creating a notable gender gap. Promoting talent diversity is one of our key objectives.

Together, we are steering the industry towards a dynamic and promising future.

In 2018 one of the emerging major IAM trends was around the “consolidation” of companies.

This initially involved mainly manufacturers, with the aim at stabilizing their business by merging or acquiring other players in the market. This strategic move proved crucial in light of the 2020 crisis. Additionally, distributors recognized the importance of creating synergies with

other companies to foster growth and establish leadership in the market.

In order to provide key support to distributors looking to reach a critical size through regional consolidation, NEXUS created Autoparts United - an organisation composed by experts who help companies in the automotive aftermarket to mutualise, rationalize and optimize their group structure.

In 2018, NEXUS emerged as a pioneer in addressing sustainability challenges within the automotive aftermarket. Emmanuel Voguet, Corporate Communication & Sustainability Director, said, “The industry was evidently unprepared to confront this issue; it was downplayed, viewed more as a trend than a real threat to the world and business alike.”

As interest in the initiative grew among members and suppliers, coupled with a growing urgency to accelerate the creation of sustainable solutions, we launched the NEXUS Climate Day. This initiative boasts the participation of leaders and stakeholders from the NEXUS Community in the automotive aftermarket.

The inaugural edition took place in Montreal in March 2023 during the NEXUS Business Forum, serving as a highly successful ‘kick-off’ event. Distributors and manufacturers used this platform to share their ideas, thoughts, concerns and best practices. Over 100 individuals from 50 dedicated companies actively collaborated with NEXUS to develop concrete solutions, initiatives, and a strategic roadmap for a better and more sustainable future.

This approach simultaneously aimed to create new business opportunities such as reverse logistic, recycling or remanufacturing.

To achieve this, we developed a standardized model: a Hexagon designed to encompass six key areas: the circular economy, carbon footprint reduction, people empowerment, sustainable products, sustainable garages and sustainable packaging.

MORE TO COME 10. THE UNIVERSE

Videos testimonials available here.

Over the past decade, we’ve navigated through transformative shifts that have not only reshaped the automotive aftermarket industry but have also left a lasting imprint on our business and personal lives. By proactively engaging our community, we foresaw and embraced many of these changes, actively participating in the industry’s evolution.

Today, we find ourselves amidst a radical new landscape. The emergence of electric vehicles and alternative modes of transportation, coupled with the pervasive digitalization of processes and services, demands a heightened level of skills, talents, and innovative strategies. Simultaneously, the market is calling for growth, strategic partnerships, service delivery enhancements, and substantial investments in new technologies.

This transformative period introduces new customer profiles and stakeholders, including intermediaries such as (new EV) Vehicle Manufacturers, leasing companies and online service portals. Moreover, a dynamic competition has arisen between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Independent Aftermarket (IAM) repair shops. OEMs strive to retain customer loyalty by offering extended warranty services and installing components that pose challenges for repair or replacement, or even enter the IAM with their parts and services offer.

In the face of these profound shifts, we pose essential questions to our community: How will our members and suppliers respond to these changes? What impact will the competition between OEM and IAM have on their businesses?

A new experience level for members and suppliers who can benefit from a common area to share and benchmark their business models and activities but also, to nurture cohesion relationships among people from any corners of the world.

We aim to support growth, formulate strategic approaches, and build resilient businesses in the dynamic landscape that lies ahead. Together, let’s not just adapt to change but thrive in the evolving future of the automotive aftermarket industry.

Our wish for the next decade is to grow, together with our community, anticipating and even creating trends in the automotive aftermarket. We are leading the transformation of the industry by bringing innovative, sustainable and life changing solutions. Our wish is to be at the forefront of the automotive aftermarket industry, upscaling our distributors and manufacturers business.
