EXPERIENCE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE MAJESTIC LENS OF GLENN RODGER

2022 Terry Fox Run is happening on Sunday September 18th. Learn more about how you can participate or donate at terryfox.org “Do you Remember, the 21st night of September?” September 21st marks the last day of Summer! Fall 2022 o cially kicks off on the 22nd.
Glenn Rodger Glenn Rodger has been a Newmarket resident for over 20 years. You may recognize him as the guy you see around town with his camera permanently attached to him, taking photos at events and of things that inspire him. You may also know him as the guy with the endless list of dad jokes or the guy that’s always having the second-best day of his life (he’ll tell you the best day was the day he married his lovely wife Jean). Glenn has been recognized by the Town of Newmarket as a Community Positivity Ambassador and has recently been nominated for a Good Citizen Award. There are a number of things people don’t know about Glenn, as he chooses to keep them quiet, but since Glenn is always shining a light on others, whether through his camera lens or on social media, we wanted to shine a light on all of the good he does in our community. He recently completed a course for Margaret Bahen Hospice so that he could volunteer and help families and clients through di cult times. For years he has volunteered as a driver for the Newmarket Food Pantry, delivering food to those who need it. He has volunteered at a number of events taking photos, including Inn From The Cold’s Coldest Night of the Year. Glenn also ran a Melanoma Foundation support group in Aurora for 2 years before the pandemic. His biggest passion is the Terry Fox Foundation, since 2018 when he was diagnosed with Melanoma cancer Stage 3C. Glenn says he’s not a cancer survivor, but a cancer conqueror. This year Glenn started TEAM MAJESTIC to raise awareness and funds for the cause. Rallying the community together through photo sharing, spearheading the flag-raising and proudly wearing his Terry Fox shirt, as often as he can.

EMOTIONAL TIES TO THE FAMILY HOME: a house is just a house, but a home is something to be cherished. Leaving a physical structure that has encapsulated decades worth of memories and is the backdrop to family holidays and reunions can be emotional.
FINANCIAL FLEXIBILITY: staying in your own home may simply be more affordable as it may avoid significant monthly payments for accommodation elsewhere, which, after having paid down your mortgage, you have not been responsible for many past years. The Aurora Chamber of Commerce Annual Summer BBQ was held on July 26th at the newly built York Regional Police Association Stonehaven Banquet Hall. What a treat for the chamber members to experience this gorgeous facility. The food was outstanding, we were able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor patio, gardens and the hilltop gazebo. Chamber members paid $10 for the event and the money was donated to CMHA York Region & South Simcoe. "

Delivering Hope Day
Women whose lives have been affected by abuse need a fresh start.
Abuse Hurts hosts a Delivering Hope Day once a month and after the ladies are finished being pampered, they all sit down together to enjoy a catered lunch.
As important as the outward physical boost that the women receive is, Delivering Hope Day also provides group sessions on topics such as self-esteem, boundaries, writing a resume and other topics helpful to women who are working towards a new beginning, whether as a professional or simply one who needs a new lease on life.
We are currently looking for makeup artists, hair stylists and local restaurants for upcoming Delivering Hope Days. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of this inspiring day of hope, please contact Kaylee at program.coordinator@abusehurts.ca Partner:
On August 22nd, Abuse Hurts hosted their monthly Delivering Hope Day. Maddy, the MUA from Complete Touch on Main Street in Newmarket and Maria, the owner of Crown Hair Lounge in Aurora, volunteered their time to help pamper the women before they shopped for clothing and essentials and then enoyed a delicious catered lunch!
Many have never had careers or positive role models that can guide or help them to integrate into the workplace. Abuse Hurts provides a program called Delivering Hope Day to women in shelters. Through many volunteers, including successful career women, Delivering Hope Day provides a practical physical makeover including getting their hair done by a professional stylist, their makeup done by a professional MUA and the opportunity to select clothing to take home with them.

Pablo Hi I’m Pablo! I’m 4 years old and my best friend is Lamb Chop (my absolute favourite toy). I like to steal cat food and socks when no one’s looking, but shh! Let's just keep that between us…
Charlie Hi, I'm Charlie! I am a Border Collie Australian Shepherd. I love my walks on the Tom Taylor Trail, as I am frequently looking for squirrels. My favourite place to go on Main St. is The George. I sit on the patio and my family will share their fries with me. I can’t wait until I am 19 so I can try their beer! Duke Woof! I'm Duke! I'm a 7 month old Shepherd, Husky and Lab mix. I like sticks, giving hugs, playing fetch, lying on tables, giving you my paw and taking naps on the air condition vent to stay cool. My dad loves me very much and I love him even more!

Freddie My name is Freddie and I’m a 2.5 year old Cocka poo. I love my mom and dad very much but my favourite place to go is to visit grandpa Lou and grandma Jenny. I love to say hi to everyone who walks by the house! Belly rubs are my absolute favourite, but I’ll take a paper napkin to rip up too! Buttons Hi, my name is Buttons! I'm super cuddly and friendly - when you bring around a can of salmon. I'm sassy and I like getting cuddles, but If you cuddle me too much... I bite. I traveled around the world and lived 3 years in a small village in Ecuador. It was there that I was named the neighbourhood pigeon catcher and I was a master at kitty kung-fu! I'm also a rescue cat and my family & mommy love me very much

Healing with Traditional Chinese Medicine
The medical materials of Chinese medicine are natural plants and minerals. Therefore, compared to synthetic chemical drugs, TCM is safer and has minimum side effects.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Partner
There are many side effects caused by antibiotics, steroids, painkillers and other synthetic chemical drugs, for an extended period or at a high dosage. So today, people are looking for an alternative way to get healthy. As a result, more and more people in Western countries use and prefer Chinese medicine. In Canada, TCM has become the most popular complementary medicine.
The fundamental principle of Chinese medicine is that the human body is considered a whole system. The balance of Yin -Yang (life forces) in a human body is the essential condition of human health and thus the imbalance of Yin and Yang by any means will result in ill health. The purpose of TCM treatments is to analyze all symptoms and experiences of patients while taking into account age, sex, lifestyle, physical and emotional traits and other aspects of an individual. An overall picture of the patient's condition is then created. The medical treatment is to rebalance Yin and Yang, finding the root cause of the chronic disease in the human body rather than just treating symptoms.
Today, a well-trained practitioner not only uses the traditional way of diagnosis but can also use other approaches integrated with conventional western medicine.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) dates back to the 21st century BC. With thousands of years of practice and development, Chinese medicine possesses a unique and integrated theory. It is a complete medical system. More and more research on modern medicine proves that Chinese medicine has distinctive effects on most forms of ill health.

As a community, and as your Newmarket Council representative, we have accomplished a lot. But, there is more to be done. With your support, I commit to continuing to focus on the priorities that matter to you and to our community, to make Ward 7 and the Town of Newmarket even better for us all.
Neighbour Media was invited by Topper’s Pizza in Aurora to try their new lactose-free mozzarella. Topper's Pizza is Canada's first pizzeria chain to offer lactose-free mozzarella. Produced by Lactalis, the mozzarella is made with 100% Canadian milk and has the same great taste, stretchiness, and golden browning as traditional mozzarella –without the uncomfortable symptoms.
My Commitment to You Ward 7 has been home to me and my family for over 30 years and I share your passion for our wonderful community and Town. We are one of the most diverse and fastest growing wards in Newmarket. Many new neighbours are just coming to know our community and what it has to offer.
I have worked hard on behalf of all residents, achieving solutions and results for increased tra c safety on our streets, providing better access to parks, trails, and recreation for children, youth, families and seniors, mitigating the disruption caused by ongoing construction, and becoming more inclusive and welcoming for all.
We value our neighbourhoods in Glenway and Woodland Hills but know there is room for improvement. I have listened to your needs, ideas and concerns.

For 25 years together our families have taken pride in bringing our community together. One of the best things about the Town of Newmarket is our strong sense of community, including thriving neighbourhoods. Armitage Village, Summerhill North, Summerhill South and our new Ward 6 neighbourhood, Shining Hill - on every street you will find people who care! The past 8 years have been an honour and together we have accomplished so much. From extraordinary places and spaces, like Newmarket’s first fully accessible splash pad, to the bold step to protect our history, green spaces and environment, the introduction of the arts in Mulock Park and becoming Canada’s 14th Bee City. Establishing new by-laws to protect animals in pet stores, trees, our heritage, safer neighbourhoods for our children and so much more. Despite the impacts of COVID-19, we came together as a community to help each other. I am so proud of everyone for doing their best to persevere, especially our most vulnerable community members who faced the hardest challenge of their lives. Lately I have noticed that our community has a sense of renewal, a new appreciation for our families, our friends and loved ones, our parks and trails, our outdoor spaces, and our community. Thank you for having the confidence in me and our council over the past eight years. The best is yet to come.

Supermoon Japanese Style Cheesecakes is all about family. We are family owned and operated, and like family is how we treat our guests. Ever since we started calling Newmarket home, we have been warmly welcomed by this generous community, which inspired us to reciprocate the support we receive.
We recognize that our role in the community is about more than just serving delicious cheesecakes. It’s equally about contributing to the wellbeing of those communities we thrive in.
To that end, we have proudly partnered with great local organizations like Rose of Sharon, Community Living Central York, and Blue Door Services to help those who are vulnerable and less fortunate in our community. The valiant efforts of these partners cannot be appreciated enough and are a true inspiration to us.
Since opening our doors at 695 Stonehaven Ave last December, our $1-a-cake campaign has helped raise thousands of dollars in support of the incredibly important work that these organizations do, and we continue to strive to help those in need.

Grocery store workers, delivery drivers, postal carriers and our entire workforce who continue to keep us going through these unprecedented times.

Our story begins with a lifelong passion for reading that developed from a young age and was then happily instilled into our family’s daily lives. Not a day goes by where we don't read books, discuss books, or do something related to books. In early 2020, right before finalizing the details of a potential location in Aurora, the pandemic was announced and we unfortunately had to delay the process of opening. After a year of waiting and lots of hard work, Bookworms & Co. opened its doors on October 9th, 2021 in our hometown of Aurora. We offer in-store shopping and will gladly accommodate curb-side pickups, as well as local deliveries. At Bookworms & Co. you'll find an array of our favourite books for all ages, bookish accessories, stationery, puzzles and toys. The silent auction will open online 2 weeks prior to Savour the Senses for event guests and the general public. Get your tickets and shop the silent auction at deafblindontario.com/foundation/events
