Debra, Aaron, and their three beloved canine companions, Loki, Brisby, and Ripley, have created a home in Aquia Harbor, but they’ve also created their own community of artists.

Their story began in the digital realm, where a mere “wink” on Match.com sparked the beginning of a lifelong journey. Debra, a spirited bartender navigating her college years in Fredericksburg, thought, “He had a nice smile, and I liked his glasses.”

“We chatted, and he came up to Fredericksburg to meet me at work one night,” Debra explained. “We had a date that weekend and hit it off. The rest is history!”

Aaron, then residing in VA Beach, was drawn to Debra’s adventurous spirit, and they’ve certainly enjoyed numerous adventures together since that meeting. Nearly two decades of partnership later, theirs is a love story etched with laughter, resilience, and boundless affection.

Professional Prowess and Artistic Passion

While Aaron thrives in IT security, finding fulfillment in his role within a close-knit government contracting firm, Debra’s journey is adorned with creative zeal and academic prowess. Armed with a degree in studio arts from UMW and a teaching certification, she honed her craft in ceramic sculpture, eventually earning her MFA from UARTS in Philadelphia. Her tenure at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton saw her ascend to Director of Education, where she nurtured budding talents and kindled a passion for the arts within her community. For Debra, turning her passion into her profession was a natural evolution. Today, she dedicates her days to sculpting and crafting functional pottery, a labor of love that seamlessly intertwines with her teaching endeavors. Her deep-seated respect for the military, stemming from her upbringing as a Marine BRAT, fuels her commitment to fostering connections between art and service, a mission she continues to pursue fervently through establishing Corgi Clay Art Center, a local artist’s haven in Stafford.

Motivated by a lack of creative spaces in Stafford, Debra’s vision for Corgi Clay Art Center was rooted in community-building and wellness, aiming to fill a void in the county’s cultural landscape. By offering classes, firing services, and teaching opportunities, Corgi Clay Art Center provides individuals a platform to explore the art of ceramics and foster connections through shared experiences.

Driven by a desire to create a sense of belonging and connection, Debra’s mission at Corgi Clay Art Center goes beyond teaching pottery techniques. Through education and engagement, she aims to dispel misconceptions about ceramics and cultivate an appreciation for its artistic potential. With a focus on functional pottery and sculpture, Debra offers a space for individuals to explore their creativity and find their tribe within the vibrant community of ceramic artists in Stafford. The name also encapsulates the Balestreri family’s love for their fur children.

Beyond being a proud dog mom, Debra is also proud to wear the title of business owner in Stafford, and she and Aaron enjoy frequenting the local businesses as much as possible.

“We love the smaller businesses here like Barley Naked Brewing [Deb’s awesome neighboring business], Paddy’s Restaurant, and Robiolino,” Debra explained. “I would love to see more small businesses in the area.”

Debra also sells her own pottery through another business with a similar name: Corgi Clay, LLC.

A Home Amidst Tranquility

The decision to relocate to Aquia Harbour in 2016 was born from a desire to streamline their commutes and embrace a lifestyle of tranquility and convenience. The allure of the community’s idyllic

homes, scenic surroundings, and proximity to amenities and nature trails proved irresistible to the adventurous couple.

“We really like our neighborhood and neighbors. We love to walk the trails and being close to Government Island,” said Debra. “We have great neighbors, too. Everyone has dogs and are dog-people.” Surrounded by like-minded neighbors and fellow dog enthusiasts, they found solace in the camaraderie of their new community.

While they don’t get to participate in the neighborhood activities as much as they’d like due to their busy work schedules, they have participated in the fall and spring craft fairs, which are “always fun.” The best part of their neighborhood community might be the treats, though— for Debra, Aaron, and their dogs.

“We get treats from our neighbors all the time— tamales, cupcakes, cookies— and we LOVE the families around us.”

Avid Adventurers

When they aren’t working or enjoying a get-together with neighbors, they’re likely on a travel adventure together. The couple often take their adventurous spirits to Mexico and Jamaica, and they were even wed in the Dominican Republic. From coastal retreats to ancient wonders, each voyage reaffirms their bond and fuels their dreams of retiring amidst the sun-kissed shores of Mexico.

“We love Mexico!” Debra explained. “Everything about it. The people, the culture, the food, all of it. We have been to Mexico so many times and seen beautiful wonders like Chichen Itza and Tulum. Our goal is to retire there one day.”

Both Aaron and Debra are children of Marines, so travel is just in their blood. Deb also had the opportunity to study in Urbino, Italy as a college senior, and Aaron was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

For the Balestreri family, life is an adventure full of love, creativity, and exploration. From their serendipitous beginnings to their shared aspirations for the future, theirs is a journey of passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to embracing life’s adventures, one clay sculpture, canine companion, and travel escapade at a time. In Aquia Harbour, amidst the nature trails and the welcoming embrace of neighbors turned friends, they’ve found a place to reside and a canvas upon which to paint the vibrant chapters of their lives.

SPRING

Karie, a native of Pennsylvania, cherishes her roots in faith and family above all else. Together with her husband and their nine children, they have fearlessly embraced life’s adventures, including living in Africa and establishing a successful business. Beyond her roles as a dedicated wife and mother, Karie is a passionate educator, talented musician, and enthusiastic traveler. Her love for exploring new cultures and experiencing the world is matched only by her appreciation for a good cup of coffee.

Nothing says “Spring” like cherry blossoms and a dust mop. Spring cleaning is as much a home improvement as a new deck or floor. It is essential. Many get lost in the enormity of the task. Keep it simple and break it down into doable steps. Plan a spring-cleaning schedule to accomplish your goals for the next days or weeks. Include family members in tasks and make it a goal!

Inside out. Decide to begin with the indoor cleaning first. This is where we spend the majority of our time. An organized, sanitary space allows for peace and tranquility. Clear out items that no longer are of use. Assess an item to determine if it brings joy and is used often. Clear out closets, drawers, storage rooms, and cluttered spaces. Even if you accomplish cleaning one item a day, that is progress! Children can go through toys and make piles to give away. Teens can sort through clothes, books, and collections, wipe out cabinets, clean windows, and share in tasks. Work through each room, including the kitchen, bathrooms, and garage. Outside, pressure wash siding and decks and do simple landscaping. A little goes a long way for curb appeal.

Top to bottom. When cleaning indoors, think of cleaning from a high-to-low, top-to-bottom approach. Dust lighting and light fixtures, wipe crown molding,

clean windows, wash walls, dust, and polish furniture, clean upholstered furniture, vacuum carpets, and area rugs, wash hard surface flooring, and wipe baseboards. Be sure to use the correct cleaning products to clean effectively without causing damage to surfaces. Encore by COREtec is a safe solution for a luxury vinyl plank available at NK Floors. The neutral pH removes dirt and grime and is compatible with hard surfaces, including hardwood, ceramic, laminate, and resilient floors.

Maintenance. After the time and work invested, maintain it! Following the timeless saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” will help keep your living space clean. Design a duties list for you, your partner, or the family. Share tasks and make it fun. If your profession keeps you busy, enlist help to keep the house tidy. Hire a cleaning service for a monthly deep clean or even a weekly or biweekly clean. It will be money well spent while buying time with those you care about the most.

Spring cleaning is refreshing! When consistently maintained, it is a game-changer.

A Spouse’s Guide

to Mother’s Day

planning or put any of that responsibility on her-- that just adds more to her to-do list and the mental load. (This includes getting your mom her gift for Mother’s Day without your wife buying it for you.)

For moms of teens or adult children, the focus shifts to spending quality time together. Whether going out for a leisurely brunch, taking a scenic hike, or simply enjoying a heartfelt conversation, what matters most is the opportunity to connect and bond. Pro tip: Get in some good “Proof of Mom” pictures while you’re out and about-- this applies to moms of younger kids, too.

And moms of adult children and empty-nesters would love a surprise visit! Even if you can’t be together in person, a thoughtful video call or virtual chat can make her feel loved and appreciated.

I asked my Facebook friends to test my theory, and it’s credible. Here are just some of the 48 responses I received:

• “You nailed it. I asked to go to a fancy hotel alone and to only have to make decisions for myself.” (One child, under one year old)

• “I want freedom to buy an expensive thing for myself, I want brunch food (that I don’t have to cook), and I don’t want any fighting.” (Two children, pre-teens)

With Mother’s Day fast-approaching, I’m here to help the spouses out. Now, I am definitely biased, and you’ll notice a trend in what moms really want for Mother’s Day. I’m sure there’s some mathematical equation that I could use, taking into account variables such as the number of children and how old the children are, but I taught English and not math, so this will have to do.

If you and your spouse share small, tiny humans, your wife needs and wants a break! Trust me. As the sole parent most of the time (thanks, Army) and mother of essentially Irish triplets, I am spent. I am touched out and exhausted. I love my children, but a weekend away from them would be the most glorious thing right now. (Again, I have three small children, and I’m solo-parenting often, so please don’t judge-- we as moms get enough of that).

For moms of young children or those with more than one child, the best gift you can give is often some well-deserved personal space. Even if you’re “ballin’ on a budget,” taking the kids away so mom can sleep– uninterrupted– would be magical for some. Moms juggle a multitude of responsibilities every day, and sometimes, all they crave is a moment of quiet and solitude. Consider taking over the childcare duties for the day-- or if you can’t do something on Mother’s Day, gift her a special day in the near future to look forward to-- sometimes just seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and a break coming is both a sigh of relief as well as an extra motivator. This allows her to relax and recharge without interruptions-- and without hearing “Mom! I want” or “Mom, can you ____?” 232 times a day. Seriously, I’ve heard “Mom” approximately 52 times in the ten minutes I’ve been writing this so far.

There was a slight difference between moms who work outside the home and moms who work within the home-- whether they work remotely or as stayat-home moms. Those who do work outside of the home would like to spend some part of the day with their children, but do not let mom do ANY of the

• “24 hours of someone catering to my every need with plenty of sleep and me not making any decisions or answering any questions.” (Three children, ages six and under)

• “15 minutes of peace without cleaning up a mess at this stage would be amazing, but that spa day... I feel ya!” (Twins, toddler age)

• “Bye!” (Two children, 6 and 4 years old)

• “When my kids were younger, my dream was to just have a hotel room alone for the night, order room service, and chill. Now that my kids are older (14 and 16), a nice lunch or game day just hanging out with them would be nice. But I still don’t want to have to really plan or cook. I do that the other 364 days of the year.”

Others who are still able to visit with their mothers and grandmothers appreciate that fleeting time, but they want a short break for part of the day, so schedule the grandparent visits and then plan dinner or plan a brunch and then make an afternoon visit.

One common thread: No matter the era of motherhood your spouse is in, it is a break from the mental load. This means they want to avoid thinking or making any decisions. Take the initiative to plan the day, whether organizing a special breakfast in bed, arranging a relaxing spa day, or preparing a picnic in the park. By taking the initiative and handling the details, you give her the gift of not worrying about anything.

Ultimately, the key to a successful Mother’s Day is to tailor the celebration to fit the preferences and desires of the mom in your life-- and tailor them to the era of motherhood she’s in-- her wants will differ depending on this. Whether providing space for relaxation, easing the mental load, or simply enjoying each other’s company, your thoughtfulness and effort will undoubtedly make her day extra special.

Oh, and no mother wants to cook on Mother’s Day. You’re welcome.

Kitchen Remodeling: Ideas That Will Transform Your Space

More often than not, the kitchen is the heart of the home—a bustling space where culinary magic unfolds and memories are created. However, with the array of utensils, appliances, and ingredients that amass over time, maintaining an organized and functional kitchen can be a challenge. This is where innovative cabinetry and countertop space-saving options come into play, ensuring that every corner of the kitchen is optimized for efficiency and convenience.

Chris Romero, an expert in kitchen design, sheds light on the special features offered by his company, Kitchens For You, emphasizing their commitment to meeting the diverse needs of their clients. “We understand that the kitchen is the heart of a home, which means it can accumulate a lot of things. Our goal is to provide our clients with solutions that can accommodate their family’s needs while optimizing space,” Chris says.

Among the special features offered are bakers tray organizing sets, which is a thin pull out cabinet placed next to the stove for convenience while cooking, drawers with built in knife blocks, custom spice drawer inserts, built-in lazy Susans for hard-to-reach corner cabinets, deep drawer pullouts for pot and pan storage, customer appliance garages to keep counter spaces decluttered and clean, and flat roll out shelves These features not only enhance organization but also streamline the cooking process, making it more efficient and enjoyable.

One key aspect of kitchen transformation highlighted by Chris is the importance of opening up the space.

“Adding lighter features like bright countertops or light colored cabinets up top with complimenting dark cabinets for the bottom add some personality to the space,” Chris says.

By adding kitchen islands with built-in appliances like microwaves and ovens, they maximize storage while creating a visually appealing focal point. When we redesign, we want the kitchen to be eye appealing and have options that are also functional,” Chris explains. “So, smaller kitchens may have more details versus a larger kitchen that just needs functionality and open concepts.” In addition to cabinetry innovations, Chris discusses other crucial elements in kitchen transformation:

• Flooring: The choice of flooring can significantly impact the overall look and feel of the kitchen. Options such as tile, luxury vinyl planks, and hardwood are offered to cater to different preferences, with a focus on maintaining fluidity and cohesion in the space.

• Countertops: Quartz countertops have surged in popularity due to their durability, versatility, and low maintenance. With the ability to control designs, colors, and details, they offer endless possibilities for customization.

• Backsplash: A well-chosen backsplash can enhance the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen, complementing and contrasting with the countertop to draw the eye to key details.

• Cabinet Hardware: Often overlooked, cabinet hardware adds a finishing touch to the kitchen design, elevating its overall aesthetic.

• Hood Fans: The choice between hidden or visible hood fans over the oven depends on client preference, with options available to seamlessly integrate them into the design.

• Pantries: Transforming pantries with luxury cabinet doors and pull-out shelves ensures convenient access to stored items while maintaining a cohesive look.

Transforming a kitchen involves careful consideration of various elements, from innovative cabinetry features to flooring, countertops, and beyond. By prioritizing both aesthetics and functionality, designers like Chris and companies like Kitchens For You ensure that every kitchen reflects the unique needs and preferences of its occupants, creating a space where cooking and gathering become truly enjoyable experiences.

Dori’s Local Favorites

SHRIMP TACOS

“Mom, what’s for dinner?” is quite possibly my least favorite phrase. I spend too much time coming up with grocery lists, meal plans, etc., so when I find something quick and easy, I have to share it. We typically keep some frozen shrimp ready to rock in the freezer, and we just happened to have some taco toppings ready to go and on hand, so I threw the following together recently, and I was pleasantly surprised. There’s minimal preparation to this one, and I may try it again soon with feta cheese as a bonus, but here’s what I did with minimal effort.

Ingredients:

• red onion (pickled)

• your tortillas of choice

• mango salsa of choice (I tried the Great Value Sweet Heat Mango Salsa, and I was pleasantly surprised)

• shrimp (thawed)

Directions:

• avocado

• Roma tomatoes

• lettuce

• your favorite shrimp seasoning (I used Slap Ya Mama, as it’s a staple in my home)

1. Before cooking, thaw the shrimp and pickle the red onion. I prefer to thinly slice my onions and use white wine vinegar, a splash of red wine vinegar, and a couple of teaspoons of sugar for pickling. Set aside in a small bowl for 25-30 minutes.

2. Sauté the shrimp in a medium or large pan. Lightly or heavily season the shrimp with your favorite seasoning. I used Slap Ya Mama, giving it a few generous shakes each time I flipped the shrimp. When it’s entirely pink, you’re good to go.

While you’re cooking the shrimp or before that, prepare your toppings. I chose to smash some avocado and use it as a base on my tortillas, dice some Roma tomatoes, and add some shredded lettuce. I added the pickled red onion and topped it off with the mango salsa. Construct your tacos however you like and enjoy!

Like I said, I’d add some crumbled feta next time, but this was quite tasty for a quick meal, so I used the toppings I had on hand. If I had time, I’d marinate the shrimp or try a different glaze or sauce to switch it up from the mango, but that store-bought salsa was clutch and did the work for me. Feel free to get creative.

Fahrenheit 132: A Carnivore’s Dream in Fredericksburg

In the heart of downtown Fredericksburg, Fahrenheit 132 stands as a culinary oasis, offering an unparalleled dining experience that transcends mere sustenance and is every carnivore’s dream. Arguably the best restaurant in town, Fahrenheit 132 captivates patrons with its exquisite ambiance, impeccable service, and a menu that pays homage to the finest ingredients and culinary craftsmanship. Stepping into Fahrenheit 132 is akin to embarking on a culinary journey, and our recent visit was nothing short of exceptional. Celebrating my husband’s birthday with friends who had journeyed from D.C. added an extra layer of joy and festivity to the evening, making it all the more memorable.

From the moment we were greeted by the warm and attentive staff to the last bite of dessert, every moment was infused with a sense of indulgence and delight. Our server, attentive to every detail, made sure to accommodate my egg allergy, ensuring that I could fully partake in each course.

Our culinary voyage began with a tantalizing array of appetizers, including the freshest oysters imaginable– a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to sourcing the highest-quality ingredients. I was starving, too, so we opted for the truffle French fries as an extra appetizer, and they did not disappoint. Being a native of Pittsburgh, where we adorn every sandwich, salad, and any other dish you can imagine with French fries, my standards are high when it comes to my favorite potato varietal. They were amazing. Perfectly seasoned and cooked, the truffle and Parmesan were the chef’s kiss!

Next, two of us opted for a Caesar salad, while two (myself included) chose the French onion soup, a classic dish served at the perfect temperature. I often find that French onion soup comes out much too hot because the cheese traps everything underneath. Not this one; the onions were perfectly caramelized, and the melted cheese sat on top of the bread, not the entire bowl, ensuring that neither of us burned the roof of our mouths and could eat the soup immediately.

For the main course, we opted for the pièce de résistance: the tender, aged wagyu tomahawk steak. Sourced from the finest producers and expertly prepared by the chefs, each bite was a revelation of flavor and texture. Cooked to perfection, with a beautifully charred exterior giving way to a melt-in-your-mouth, pink interior, it was a carnivore’s dream come true.

Accompanying our steak was a selection of delectable sides, including shaved brussel sprouts, sauteed green beans, creamy mashed potatoes, and everyone’s favorite: truffle mac and cheese. Each side dish was seasoned to perfection, but the mac and cheese stood apart, with the aroma of truffles permeating every bite.

To complement our meal, we perused Fahrenheit 132’s extensive wine list and settled on a bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Poliziano-- one of our favorite vintners from our years living in Italy. Its velvety texture, full body, moderately floral, and subtle black cherry notes perfectly complemented our steak, enhancing each bite and elevating the entire experience.

As the evening drew to a close, the chef surprised me with a special dessert to accommodate my egg allergy. A refreshing sorbet, accompanied by fresh fruit and whipped cream, was a delightful end to the meal. The gesture, along with a wax-stamped birthday card, candle, and heartfelt message for my husband, encapsulated the hospitality and commitment to going above and beyond that defines Fahrenheit 132. Our friends shared the limoncello cake, and we all left with some doggy bags.

From the impeccable service to the unforgettable flavors, every aspect of our dining experience had been meticulously crafted to perfection. Without a doubt, Fahrenheit 132 stands atop the list of fine dining experiences in Fredericksburg. I’d recommend celebrating your next milestone there.

Behind

the Curtain

The play at Mountain View High School, Something Rotten, was undoubtedly worth observing. The Mountain View’s theater department put on an outstanding production this April!

Something Rotten is about the Bottom Brothers, Nick and Nigel, who aim to find success in writing plays while trying to outwrite famous playwright William Shakespeare. While trying to succeed in playwriting, they go to see a soothsayer who will predict Shakespeare’s next play.

When asked why he chose this play, director Josh King said, “Last year’s play was highly successful with our production of Les Misérables, but it was a very serious play, and this play was the complete polar opposite. We didn’t want a show that would compare the two whatsoever. We were looking for something challenging, and this play, “Something Rotten,” came up.”

“We stumbled upon Something Rotten, and there was a defining scene where the main character goes to a soothsayer, and she says the entertainment of the world would be musicals,” he explained. “It was the perfect choice.”

The production started in late November with auditions and additional callbacks. The students and staff of this production spent countless hours rehearsing and preparing for opening.

That said, everyone involved in the production works like a well-oiled machine, each working together to benefit the other rather than one-on-one.

Eric Hokanson, the tech theater teacher, is also the tech theater director for Mountain View High School productions. He has been a part of the school’s staff and theater team since it opened.

PARENTS education corner

He refers to himself as a “trusty pair of pants.”

“You don’t know where you got them, but they’re your favorite, and you love them,” he explained. And the cast and crew couldn’t agree more.

As the tech theater teacher, he is a major component of the school’s collaboration and teamwork for these productions. He works with various groups, including the Orchestra director, The Pit, and the Artistic director. He explains that ¨The musicals are the wonderful products of all of the school’s performing arts,” which is something that he really enjoys because everyone is able to collaborate and work together.

Mr. Hokanson says what he loves most about his job is the effort put forth.

“Many people don’t realize how much work goes into it,” he explained. “They see the result, and the end result seems magical to them. Also, with the very nature of musicals, people are often just breaking into spontaneous song and dance; they don’t see the incredible hours of hard work. As a team, we were able to take a thought from our head that hundreds of people are able to enjoy. It allows us to impact so many people’s lives, even if it’s just for a short amount of time.”

The individuals behind this play are genuine and dedicated, and they aim to evoke emotions in you as you witness the production.

One of the main characters, Portia, played by Nora Holowko, explains that the goal of musicals is being able to give the audience an escape:

“Rather than making them laugh or cry, to make them feel something when they leave their seat and go home, they’re still thinking of how the play made them feel.”

The cast and crew of this production are truly extraordinary, from the exceptional directors to the committed students who invest countless hours of effort and time. Their dedication ensures that the audience is left with the lingering thoughts of the play for hours and days to come.

The talented actors flawlessly executed the director’s vision, pouring their hearts and souls into their performances. The crew members worked behind the scenes and in front of the curtain to create a visually stunning and immersive experience for the audience. Together, they made a production that had a lasting impact on all who witnessed it.

TIPS from a Local Superintendent

I recently had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Thomas W. Taylor, Superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools. I asked Dr. Taylor if he could give two tips to parents, what would they be? His response is below.

TIP 1:

“Get smart on Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Find out what tools your kids are using for AI and have a discussion with them.”

TIP 2:

“Make sure you have a relationship with your kids’ teacher.”

Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students, and enthusiastic parents with high expectations.

EMPOWERING THROUGH MUSIC AND ART: THE BILL CARROLL FOUNDATION

In the heart of Fredericksburg, the Bill Carroll Foundation shines brightly as a beacon of hope, inclusion, and creativity. Founded by CEO and visionary Bill Carroll, this 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is dedicated to providing inclusive arts programs and instruction to individuals of all abilities, focusing on veterans and those with disabilities.

“Our philosophy is to guide more people to experience the arts and celebrate music and its education in communities across our country, starting in our own backyard,” Bill explained. Through advocacy and community outreach, the foundation also strives to support schools and organizations in promoting the importance of arts education.

A Fusion of Passion and Purpose

For Bill Carroll, music and education have always been intertwined. With a background in the music and production industry and his experience as a counselor for individuals with special needs, Bill recognized the transformative power of the arts in enriching lives and building communities.

“I come from a line of regular and special needs teachers in my immediate and extended families,” Bill shared. “Then I, too, got certified as a counselor for Special Needs people and even worked in a group home for a few years. Then, becoming a professional Audiovisual Engineer and teacher, these two worlds collided when I realized I needed to put them together somehow.”

“I’ve been in the music and production industry most of my life,” Bill said. “Then, just five years ago, I created my Foundation, which literally brought these two worlds together, and to me, it seemed a no-brainer.”

Empowering Through Inspiration

The driving force behind Bill’s dedication to the foundation lies in the moments of inspiration he witnesses firsthand.

“My biggest inspiration is when I experience seeing someone with special needs pick up an instrument and then start playing it like they were practicing for years,” Bill shared. “This inspires me to not only help and guide them to greater, more refined skills with their amazing talent but makes me more humble in everything I do.”

Bill’s journey with music is something he’s always envisioned, literally.

“I once told one of my teachers that I ‘see’ sounds in colors,” he recalls. To this day, while I’m in a recording studio working on a sound project, seeing those sounds, I can effectively edit and manipulate the audio without even continuing to use my ears to edit intently but by seeing the colors and looking at the waveform of audio.”

Spreading Joy Through Innovation

As the Bill Carroll Foundation continues to expand its reach, Bill is excited to unveil the IMERS project (“Immersive Mobile Educational Recording Studio”) for Musicians with Disabilities.

“It’s time to share it with the world,” Bill declared. “The neighboring counties’ school systems have contacted me, and we’re working on having them utilize my mobile classroom/studio for the Special Needs students of each and every school that needs it.”

The impact of the foundation extends far beyond the realm of arts education, touching the lives of individuals in profound ways. Bill shared the story of a young man with autism who discovered his musical genius through the foundation’s programs, culminating in a full-blown musical production that showcased his talent and creativity:

“There was this 24-year-old boy with autism who was musically and naturally a genius at it, in my opinion,” Bill said. “He was involved with Step-VA, a local theatrical organization that puts on productions of all sizes specifically for kids with disabilities.” Through mentorship and support, this young man showcased his musical talents and gained confidence and independence, inspiring everyone around him.

Looking to the Future with Hope

As the Bill Carroll Foundation embarks on its next chapter of growth and service, it invites the community to support its mission.

“With the completion of our IMERS project, we’re now able to advocate not only for individuals with disabilities but also for the schools offering

tools and resources that validate the importance of music in our schools,” Bill emphasized.

For Bill Carroll, the journey is far from over. Despite facing life-long disabilities and health issues, he remains unwavering in his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

“The programs we offer, the professional services, and the Mobile Unit are for hire for anyone who needs its services and functions for their event or show. It’s fully capable of recording audio from ANY source, whether a fullblown concert or another kind of event,” Bill explained.

“We can use the studio for multi-camera operations with video production. It’s a master editing suite for audio and video. There’s going to be Virtual Reality inside it. It’s a classroom. It’s a recording studio for any musician to practically play and record any instrument. There’s so much that this mobile unit is capable of, and then all of our professional services that go along with it.”

Making Music Together

In addition, Bill started a record label attached to the foundation for all of their musicians called the Groove Factory. “We’re a full-functioning Audio-

visual Production Company utilizing technicians, admin, and musicians with any sort of disability. We consistently need Volunteers and people to help with everything we do and to mentor and teach.”

Bill said if anyone wants their services at an event, “Just ask! We’d love to help create an amazing time for your guests, possibly show off our mobile studio, and have people experience it a bit. It really is epic!”

Through the his foundation, Bill Carroll has created a legacy of empowerment, inspiring individuals to embrace their passions, overcome challenges, and unleash their full potential. As the foundation continues to flourish, it is a testament to the enduring power of music, art, and compassion to transform lives and uplift communities.

“Together,” Bill said, “Let us create a world where every voice is heard, and every talent is celebrated.”

Will Jacob starve himself or will he find a way to enjoy and experience Japan? With an open mind, he may discover new and delicious foods that he never knew existed.

• Purple, yellow and white paint

Directions:

• Paint brush

• Different colored ribbons cut into (6-inch lengths)
