Molton Monthly - August 2022 Welcome to the August edition of Molton Monthly. We return this month to the war raging in Ukraine, to tell the story of a mother and daughter who made a desperate 2,000 mile journey to safety here in North Devon. The kindness of a family in South Molton who have taken them in, is heartwarming in these troubled times. It’s easy for us to take life for granted, so please take a moment to read how the generosity of Tricia and Wayne Hyde is helping heal the trauma suffered by Olena and Tamara (cover photo and pages 18-22). As Tricia says, “It’s not been plain-sailing sharing your house with strangers, but if you are able to, I would strongly urge you to do the same to help out a family in need. I think the key thing is to keep communication channels open - even if it is through Google translate!” The magazine is published in the colours of the Ukrainian flag again this month as a show of support. The people of North Devon rallied round with a huge outpouring of support in the early days of the war, with vigils, fundraising and aid trips. This story is to remind us all that the Ukraine and its people are still being bombed by Russian forces, still being killed and injured - and that this war affects us all in some way. Molton Monthly will look and feel different this month. This is because I have switched to a new carbon neutral paper, which is great news for the magazine (page 8). As a North Devon Biosphere Business Partner it is another step towards a sustainable future. We all need to keep taking action to help tackle climate change. As always, please shop local and stay safe Peter Robinson, Editor & publisher Molton Monthly is also published free to read on our website moltonmonthly.co.uk and we have daily news updates on Facebook and Instagram @MoltonMonthly
