Molton Monthly - April 2022 Welcome to the April edition of Molton Monthly. There is war in Europe. And while peace talks are continuing, so does the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and so does the killing of ordinary people like you and I, the killing of children and the devastation of an important European nation. This month we are published in the colours of the Ukrainian flag as a sign of support. It is said the blue represents the sky above a yellow wheat field, or sunflowers which are the country’s national flower. Ukraine is often called the ‘breadbasket of Europe’. Our cover photo shows the vigil for peace held in South Molton in March. It has particular poignance because it was taken by our regular contributor, the artist and What’s Inside - April photographer Karolina Andreasova, who P6-7 Photo of the month herself grew up under Russian occupation P8 England rugby call-up for Emma in the former Czechoslovakia. She was born just an hour from the Ukraine border. Now the people of her country Slovakia are among those in Europe helping the millions of refugees. Speaking at the vigil, Karolina urged people to continue donating money to the main charity appeals and said, “I am no different to the people that are suffering there, please help in any way you can.” Read more on pages 20 - 23. We also have an interview with a former West Buckland student, who fled the war and now hopes to return to the UK (pages 46 - 47). Slava Ukraini! As always, please shop local and stay safe Peter Robinson, Editor & publisher Molton Monthly is also published free to read on our website moltonmonthly.co.uk and we have daily news updates on Facebook and Instagram @MoltonMonthly
