Read all About it - Maleny! A series of themed historical information boards, depicting a brief illustrated history of Maleny, are now on display in "Selectors Green”, the new open space developed on the Maleny District Sport and Rec Club’s lease on the Community Precinct.

developing the concept of the new park since 2016, starting work in earnest in 2018. Volunteers on the project team are from Maleny Lions, the Rotary Club of Maleny, Maleny Apex, Maleny RSL, the Friends and Maleny Garden Club and have been working hard together, under the guidance of Council, who funded the new boards and other aspects of the park. Incidentally, the boards are situated on the selection of 160 acres made by John Hankinson on 6th July 1880 on Portion 1276, Parish of Maleny. The next time you are walking by Parklands Drive on the Precinct, why not take a lovely diversion through Selectors Green and read about the story of how Maleny came to be?

The Friends of Pattemore House were invited by the combined community group team that created Selectors Green to provide the information and boards, so Penny Edwards and Gail Denver from the Friends took on the task. Spending more than a year diligently researching, recording and fact-checking the area’s history since the arrival of Europeans to the Blackall Range, they also selected images and designed the six boards, each illustrated with early photos, maps and letters.

Selectors Green speci cally acknowledges Maleny’s rst selectors, particularly with reference to the rst hardy women who arrived on the Range since 1875. Still to come are a series of individual stories about some of the Range’s earliest women who were also living on the rst selections in Maleny, with a row of native trees planted in advance along Parklands Drive, under which their stories will be displayed.
