L ANCERS OF GOLF Cheers to Lancers of Golf! A sell-out crowd of over 130 MC parents, alumni and friends gathered on September 23 at the Bradford Country Club for the 35th Annual Malden Catholic Classic. It was a perfect day for golf with great company and enthusiasm that could not be dampened by the brief unexpected downpour that appeared as golfers headed to their first hole. Returning champions Dr. Bruce Doyle P ’21, and his team finished first with -16. The tournament also provided a unique opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the late Carl Mata ‘67. Carl’s widow, Maureen (Gordon) Mata GC ‘69, his sons and beloved friends from MC and GC 1969 were in attendance.

M A L D E N C AT H O L I C I N T E R N S H I P S This summer, the Malden Catholic Center for Leadership provided professional competitive internship opportunities for over 70 students who participated in real-world leadership experiences in business, STEM and the arts. A number of Malden Catholic alumni in the fields of law, marketing, technology, health services and retail offered business internship positions for a host of students. Students with an interest in science participated in a proprietary STEM research program conducted in conjunction with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In addition, a group of students assisted with an active construction project in the Engineering Intensive experience and created engaging marketing and communications content for Urban Media Arts (formerly Malden Access TV). According to Nick Julian ’22, “The best takeaway from the MC Internship experience was the exposure I had to the real world. Waking up early in the morning, driving to Cambridge, working in an office and attending live events on behalf of Allied Global Marketing, the largest entertainment marketing firm of its kind, was truly something I never imagined that I would experience at 17 years old.” Mr. Joseph O’Donnell ‘62, founder of Allied Global Marketing, sponsored the internship.

In addition to the hands-on experience, MC students benefited from networking with career professionals and learning invaluable skills that are transferable across any path they may choose after college graduation. “This summer, we worked on creating a social media campaign

for Cataldo Ambulance Service directed toward younger job-seekers. The company made sure we had enough digital resources and gave us an insight to the world of marketing. This internship has opened my eyes to the responsibilities involved in becoming a professional in this field, and marketing is now a career I would like to pursue,” stated Isabella De La Gala ’23. Malden Catholic has plans to expand the Internship Program and continue to expose students to potential future career paths and areas for college course concentration. If you would like to offer an internship for a Malden Catholic student in the summer of 2022, please contact Mr. Chris McCarthy at mccarthyc@maldencatholic.org.
