A KASAMA Magistrates’ Court has heard a tenant sneaked into his land lady’s bedroom and attempted to rape her.

In this matter, Brasho Mutale 28 of Sunkutu Village in Kasama appeared for trial on a charge of attempted rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a-52-year-old woman.

Mutale is alleged to have committed the two offences

on December 27, last year.

The court heard that on the material day around 20:00 hours , Mutale burst into the land lady’s house and later hear bedroom and started dragging and undressing her in a bid to have sex with her forcibly.

The case came before Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba.

During trial, the woman narrated that Mutale insisted that he wanted to have sex with her, as a way of paying a monthly house

rental.

According to her, he burst into her bedroom while he was in his underwear only.

She narrated that after shouting for help three times, her neighbours went for a rescue her and dragged Mutale out of her house while he was just in his under wear.

The matter has since been adjourned to January 22 for continued trial and Mutale was remanded at Kasama’s Milima Correctional Facility.

SENIOR Chief Nsama of the Tabwa speaking people of Nsama district has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to pay transporters that were engaged to transport mobile voter registration officers to various centres in the district last year.

He explained that the ECZ had engaged transporters to ferry mobile voter registration officers and voter registration gadgets to registration centres, with a promise to pay them upon finishing the exercise.

The traditional leader, who was also engaged as a transporter, complained that since the completion of the exercise, no any transporter had been paid.

Senior chief Nsama urged the electoral body to ensure that it settles the dues urgently, as transporters had incurred costs during the exercise. ''We were engaged by ECZ to transport mobile voter registration officers and the gadgets, on an understanding that once the exercise is over the ECZ will settle the bills, but up to now no transporter has received money.

“So we are urging the ECZ to give us our money because it is almost two months now since we completed the exercise,'' senior chief Nsama in an interview.

ECZ urged to pay transporters

Milenge District Commissioner Mwenya Bupe has tasked relevant authorities in the district to intensify efforts aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

Mr Bupe noted that some members of the community are not adhering to the stipulated health guidelines such as wearing masks, social distancing and patronizing bars and other crowded places.

Mr Bupe stated that there was need to double up efforts especially that there are 21 active COVID-19 cases in the district.

ZANIS reports that Mr Bupe said this during a District Epidemic Preparedness meeting, held at Milenge Resource Centre yesterday.

Mr Bupe revealed that from October 2020 to January 19, 2021, 33 people tested positive to COVID-19, and 12 have

since recovered, out of the 4900 tests conducted in the district.

"I am glad that out of the 33 cases 12 of those have recovered. Therefore, the number of positive cases in the district stands at 21. I commend health authorities for working round the clock in caring for the patients, "he said.

Earlier, Milenge District Health Director Lweendo Munzele stated that the coronavirus positive cases are dotted across the district, hence residents should adhere to health guidelines.

Dr Munzele said the department is doing its best to enforce guidelines aimed at combating the further spread of the coronavirus.

He added that health personnel are also screening those coming to Milenge from the Democratic Republic of Congo

through the Kapalala crossing point.

Speaking during the same meeting, Milenge Catholic Church Parish Priest Father Kennedy Kashinga called on the District COVID-19 Taskforce to be more professional when enforcing regulations.

Fr. Kashinga observed that the Taskforce has been applying selective justice when it comes to punishing offenders.

"As a church, we are ready to cooperate with authorities and safeguard the health of our members. But we are concerned that the Taskforce is harsh on the church and tolerant to some entities such as bars and their patrons," he noted.

Fr. Kashinga said punitive measures should be administered across the board if the pandemic is to be combated.

THE Copperbelt Taxi Drivers Association (CTDA) has complained over the continued shortage of fuel in some parts of the country.

CTDA Secretary General, Sydney Chileshe, said the shortage of fuel was negatively affecting their business and challenged Government to give a true picture on the ground.

Mr Chileshe said it was only after the situation was clearly explained that the people would know what the problem was.

“We do not see the reason why Government is struggling to explain to the people what exactly is going on. I can assure you that as long as government is not saying anything, people will continue speculating,” he said.

He said it was saddening to note that the oil marketing companies and the entire procurement process had for a long time been “secretive.”

Mr Chileshe said that 56 years after independence the country was still experiencing the shortage of fuel because Government had not taken necessary measures.

Recently, Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa explained that Government had removed import duty and zero-rated VAT on fuel imports to contain the furl prices.

The Minister had assured that the fuel supply in the country would thus improve in seven days as fuel importers had started rolling into the country.

St Ignatius Catholic Church closed SAINT Ignatius Catholic Church in Lusaka’s Roads Park area has been closed down with immediate effect following the COVID-19 positive cases recorded at the parish.

In a statement released to the parishioners and obtained by ZANIS in Lusaka today, Parish Priest Father Hector Mukwato, said the Church will remain closed for a period of two weeks.

Father Mukwato and his Assistant Parish Priest Father Charles Chilinda have both tested positive for COV-

ID-19.

The two priests have since placed themselves in self-quarantine.

Fr. Mukwato has urged congregants who may have come into contact with them to go ahead and get tested for COVID-19.

He said the rest of the priests and staff at the parish have all carried out similar tests and have tested negative.

He added that the church will resume operations on February 3, 2020, after being fumigated and made safe for public use again. - ZANIS

Eastern province geared to fight army worms MINISTRY of Agriculture in Chipata district has distributed 1,350 litres of pesticides to fight off the fall army worms.

The district has recorded more than six thousand hectors of land infested with the fall army worms.

Goma says Chipata district which has more than 19,000 affected households.

She told ZANIS in an interview that the ministry is using agriculture camp staff to distribute the pesticides to affected households.

"We currently have an affected area of 6,261.5 hectares

and we are using camp officers in the district to ensure that all the affected households receive the pesticides.

The infestation level is currently at 7.5 percent,” she said.

Mrs Goma urged all the farmers to correctly use the pesticides as government spent a lot money on the

chemicals.

"We do not want to get reports of the people selling the pesticides,"Mrs Goma said.

Eastern Province received an initial 9,000 thousand litres of pesticides to be distributed among the 14 affected districts in the region. – ZANIS

Chemicals to fight army worms in South distributed SOUTHERN Province Agriculture Coordinator Max Choombe says the 7,000 litres of chemicals to fight army worms have been distributed to all districts in the province.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Dr Choombe said all the chemicals have been distributed and the districts are now distributing the chemicals to camp officers, who will now hand over to respective farmers.

“The chemicals have been distributed, and soon the beneficiary farmers will be given,” he narrated.

Meanwhile, Choma District Agriculture Coordinator Robert Tembo confirmed that the district has received about 600 litres of the chemicals.

Mr Tembo said the distribution of the chemicals to various camp officers varies according to reports being received from the farmers “The distribution is dependent on the extent of the damage and the reports that we are receiving from the famers,” Mr Tembo revealed.

Mr Tembo also said the timing of the distributions of the chemicals from the

Swaka speaking people to have new chief The Swaka speaking people of Mukonchi chiefdom in Kapiri Mposhi district have selected Simon Supaile as the new chief Mukonchi.

Mr. Supaile, 35, an auto mechanic by profession, was elected by the seven royal families of Mukonchi chiefdom at a meeting presided over by chief Chikupili of the Swaka speaking people of Luano District.

The selection of Mr. Supaile as a new chief follows the death of the serving chief Mukonchi on September 19, 2020 whose name was Davies Musonda who reigned since the year 2000.

Kapiri Mposhi District Commissioner, Smart Mwila confirmed the development to ZANIS. Mr. Mwila said all the seven royal families had floated a candidate to succeed the fallen chief but opted for Mr. Supaile after long-drawn-out interviews on the Swaka lineage.

Mr. Mwila has since commended the seven Swaka royal families for the peaceful manner in which they have handled the succession process of their traditional leader.

He stated that government is aware of some chiefdoms that are grappling with succession disputes following the death of traditional leaders.

“Prolonged succession disputes are a hindrance to development in chiefdoms but as government we are happy to see that the Swaka people have amicably chosen their chief using their known family tree a thing which should be emulated by all chiefdoms,” Mr. Mwila said.

Mr. Mwila said government is now awaiting minutes from concerned parties on the selection process of the new chief to facilitate his installation in accordance with the country’s statutes.

“If this is the way to go government is just waiting on the parties for the minutes to hand over the instruments of power to the new chief of the swaka people of Mukonchi chiefdom,” Mr. Mwila said. – ZANIS.

HE rape and murder trial involving Mulenga Kabaso popularly known as 'Spax' and five others could not be heard on Wednesday as the court recorded a case of Covid-19.

The accused were supposed to appear in the Kitwe High Court for continued trial.

However, dates as to when trial would continue had not been given.

This is in a matter in which Boyd Kamizhi 24, Maclean Kamizhi 22, Gilbert Zimba 22, Syvio Kwibisa 22, Jimmy Bwembya 23 and Spax 29, are appearing before Justice Abha Patel for attempted murder, rape and murder.

In count one, details are that between 22 and 23 January 2019 the accused allegedly murdered Emmanuel Maponda of Chingola district.

Particulars of the offence in count two are that the accused persons on dates between 22 and 23 January 2020 attempted to murder Billy Maponda in Chingola.

In the third count the accused persons attempted to murder Sheila Bwembya between 22 and 23 January in Chingola.

In count four particulars are that on dates unknown but between 22 and 23 January the accused attempted to murder Stanley Maponda in Chingola.

And in the last count, between 22 and 23 January the accused persons had raped a woman.

NEW presentation of humanitarian, fashion, music and fitness awards have been announced in Zambia and organisers are now calling interested parties to submit their entries for possible nomination.

The nomination and voting criteria in each category will fully involve followers.

The Zikomo Awards come as one of the many awards that seek to recognise and appreciate outstanding individuals in Zambia.

These are new awards which are set to take place at a date soon to be announced. They have designed to award hard working Zambians in various categories including music, fashion, humanitarian works and fitness.

“The organisers of the Zikomo Awards in Zambia are calling on the general public to submit nominations ahead of the awards ceremony in Lusaka at a yet-to-be-announced date,” read a statement from Zikomo Awards website.

“Voting will be done by the Zambian public and across the continent via the Zikomo

“ The organisers will choose the four most-nominated individuals. Their names and pictures added to the website for voting.

All four nominees in each category will be invited to attend the awards ceremony,” the statement read.

Nominating and voting is strictly done once per category.

Individuals who nominate or vote more than once will be disqualified.

The deadline for nominations is 14 February.

“The main focus of this event is to reward, appreciate and recognise individuals and charity organisations who are helping the underprivileged in our community,” the Zikomo Awards website reads.

The single was released early this week and is so far progressing well. PMRC prods govt, private sector on agro investment BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes @SunZambian THE Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) has urged Government to continue providing a conducive environment for increased private sector investment in the agriculture sector.

PMRC Executive Director, Bernadette Deka-Zulu, observed that the private sector had played a minimal role in financing the agricultural sector in form of loans for greenfield investments, as majority of the lending went toward financing big commercial farms.

Ms Deka-Zulu however acknowledged that despite the tight fiscal space from the ongoing debt repayments, Government had continued to fund the agricultural sector.

“In the 2021 national budget

there was a 6.7 percent increase in the budget allocation towards the agricultural sector,” she said in a statement.

She said it was such commitment which led to the 2019 Enabling Business of Agriculture (EBA) report indicators ranking

Zambia number three out of 28 countries in Sub Saharan Africa in design and implementation regulations as well as processes that promoted an enabling environment for farmers to thrive.

Ms Deka-Zulu said the report showed that Zambia scored well

in five of these indicators, which included; the availability of seed, access to fertiliser, availability of water resources, plant protection and access to finance.

“There has been an improvement in the use of improved seed by farmers for the period 2002 to 2019. Particularly for maize, there has been substantial improvement by households using the improved maize seed from 54 percent to 70 percent.

“This improvement is attributed partly to the liberalization of the seed subsector. The private sector plays a major role in seed production and exports,” she said.

Zambia is one of the largest seed exporters in Africa; aside from the domestic market, it exported a recorded total of 17,891 tons of certified seed to other African countries in 2011.

Chief Mumena hails FQM for supporting modern farming methods BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes @SunZambian FIRST Quantum Minerals’ (FQM) support towards the agriculture inputs has brought about notable changes in North Western Province, says Chief Mumena of the Kaonde people.

Chief Mumena said farmers in his chiefdom were now able to harvest as much as ten tonnes per hectare from as low as two tonnes because of the Conservation Farming initiative introduced by FQM. “The Conservation Farming practice that the mining company introduced has improved the livelihood of the people in his Chiefdom,” he said in a letter addressed to the mine.

Chief Mumena commended First Quantum Minerals for intro-

ducing Conservation Farming in his Chiefdom, which he said was turning North-Western Province into Zambia’s food basket.

“The support towards the agriculture inputs has brought about notable changes among the people, for instance, our farmers are now able to harvest as much as ten tonnes per hectare from as low as two tonnes because of this initiative,” said the traditional leader.

He explained that most of the people in the area were constantly cutting down trees to burn charcoal to sell for a living, but that they were now able to sell crops and vegetables for their daily needs, and this has resulted in the protection of the forests for the next generation.

“Our farmers are now able to harvest enough food for the

whole year and extra to sell. We no longer have shortages in the villages like it used to be before First Quantum introduced conservation farming,” Chief Mumena said.

Through the Foundation the mining company has provided training and technical support to close to 40,000 farmers and early agricultural input delivery to 7,000 farmers, whose yields have grown from an average of six 50kg bags using conventional techniques in 2010, to a maximum of 56 bags and an average of 21 bags in the 2018/2019 farming season.

In response, Kansanshi Foundation supervisor in charge of conservation farming training and operations at FQM, Maximillian Katanga, said, the mining firm under the project provided education and close monitoring.

Mr Katanga said the mine also provided input loans to farmers and that the system revolved around a sustainable permaculture rotation of maize, Solwezi beans, cowpeas, soya beans, and groundnuts with minimum tillage, use of mulch, and training farmers on the importance of early planting.

“Since the project’s inception in the 2010/2011 season close to 40,000 farmers have benefited from the conservation farming programme,” he said.

As part of the programme, Kansanshi Foundation’s monitoring and evaluation team has mapped all 7,000 farms and is working on an online interactive site that the public can visit.

COMESA, Malawi ink Mchinji border management pact BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes @SunZambian THE Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Malawian Government have signed a 3.54 million Euros agreement that sub-delegates the implementation of coordinated border management activities at Mchinji border post.

The agreement would sub-delegates the implementation of coordinated border management activities under the broader Trade Facilitation programme with COMESA on the Malawian side.

The project will support the implementation of key pillars of One Stop Border Post (OSBP) operations.

Some of the major activities to be implemented under the agreement include upgrading the customs e-management system and bandwidth, improving inter-agency connectivity, implementation of the Trade and Transport Corridor Management System and capacity building among others.

The signing of the sub-delegation agreement comes a month after a similar agree-

ment was signed with the Zambian Government to upgrade its side of the border post at Mwami, in November last year.

The new development is part of the 48 million Euros Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP) with COMESA financed under the 11th European Development Fund (11 EDF) with the objective of deepening regional integration, improving inclusive regional economic growth and enhancing the competitiveness of the COMESA region.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Malawi, Christina Zakeyo, and COMESA Secretary General, Chileshe Kapwepwe, signed the sub-delegation agreement in Lilongwe and Lusaka this week.

Ms Zakeyo said the signing of the sub-delegation agreement came after an assessment of existing challenges conducted at Mchinji border post in early 2020.

He said the Government of Malawi desired to build on current trade facilitation efforts through programs such as the COMESA trade facilitation Project.

“The interventions at Mchinji border post are expected to enhance efficiency and ulti-

mately reduce the cost of doing business and the support is therefore, timely as Malawi grapples with the negative effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic,” she said.

And Ms Kapwepwe explained that the modalities of implementation of the sub-delegated activities provided an opportunity for Malawi to take ownership and lead in the implementation of the activities.

She indicated that the COMESA Secretariat would provide technical guidance.

Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia and COMESA, Jacek Jankowski, said: “We welcome the signing of the agreement as a major step towards reduction in hindrances to trade at the border and that will lead to increased seamless flow of goods between Zambia and Malawi.”

The chargé d’affaires at the European Union Delegation in Malawi, Aurélie Valtat, expressed optimism that “as African states start trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area, the removal of any form of hindrances to cross-border trade is critical to ensure the benefits of open trade.”

Governments’ Food Security Pack (FSP), which distributed free hybrid maize seed to vulnerable households, may have partly accounted for this increase in the use of improved seed.

She said in the recent years, the agricultural sector had witnessed increased trends in the use of fertiliser by farmers.

Ms Deka-Zulu said this increase in the use of fertiliser was as a result of increased Government funding towards FISP, which stands at 61 percent of the fertiliser financing in the country.

“There has been an increase in the commercial farm sector over the years, which in turn entails more use of fertilizer in crops such as wheat, soybean, sugar, barley, and maize production as drivers of increased demand for their product,” she said.

Stanchart digital adoption rate at 81p.c.

BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes @SunZambian STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia has registered 81 percent digital adoption rate as more customers opt to transact through the digital platform during the current Covid-19 period.

At present, over 88 percent of the transactions are going through digital platforms.

Standard Chartered has reduced its physical distribution network having seen more clients opt for digital channels as it now boasts a 81 percent digital adoption rate.

S if to confirm the end days, apart from Covid-19 and floods Zambia is also faced with the threat of Army Worms that have the potential of wiping out entire maize crops.

The fall armyworm is an invasive alien pest that has blighted much of southern Africa’s maize crop.

It is for this reason that Government is in action to ensure that these pests are eradicated and it requires a well collaborated and combined effort.

From detection, reporting to treatment, there is need for com-

munities to work together with Government agents and community leaders to regularly communicate and take action.

The Ministry of Agriculture in Chipata district has distributed 1,350 litres of pesticides to fight off the fall army worms.

The district has recorded more than six thousand hectors of land infested with the fall army worms.

District Acting Senior Agriculture Officer (SAO) Mirriam Goma says Chipata district which has more than 19,000 affected households.

She told ZANIS in an interview that the ministry is using agriculture camp staff to distribute the pesticides to affected households.

"We currently have an affected area of 6,261.5 hectares and we are using camp officers in the district to ensure that all the affected households receive the pesticides.

The infestation level is currently

at 7.5 percent,” she said.

Mrs Goma urged all the farmers to correctly use the pesticides as government spent a lot money on the chemicals.

"We do not want to get reports of the people selling the pesticides," Mrs Goma said.

Eastern Province received an initial 9,000 litres of pesticides to be distributed among the 14 affected districts in the region.

Meanwhile, Southern Province Agriculture Coordinator Max Choombe says the 7,000 litres of chemicals to fight army worms have been distributed to all districts in the province.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Dr Choombe said all the chemicals have been distributed and the districts are now distributing the chemicals to camp officers, who will now hand over to respective farmers.

“The chemicals have been

distributed, and soon the beneficiary farmers will be given,” he narrated.

Choma District Agriculture Coordinator Robert Tembo confirmed that the district has received about 600 litres of the chemicals.

Mr Tembo said the distribution of the chemicals to various camp officers varies according to reports being received from the farmers “The distribution is dependent on the extent of the damage and the reports that we are receiving from the famers,” Mr Tembo revealed.

Mr Tembo also said the timing of the distributions of the chemicals from the government was very quick, adding that the supply was made at a time when the district was hard hit with army worms.

the chemicals are Kalomo, Kazungula, Choma, Zimba, Mazabuka, Monze, and Siavonga among others.

Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi have all reported widespread outbreaks, and we have seen the trail of destruction throughout many of our program areas. The pest is not so much a worm as a caterpillar, and its common name derives from the way these invaders generally come in overwhelming numbers, giving the appearance of an army crawling and eating their way through a field.

The war against the Fall Army Worm is being fought at great cost and it would be unfortunate if indiscriminate staff sat on these chemicals instead of distributing them as directed.

Every field across the country must be protected if at all we are to secure our crops from the Fall Army worm.

CLUB CAREER While at Kabwe Warriors, Changwe won 11 honours as a player, making him one of the most successful players of the five-time top-flight league winners – alongside Boniface Simutowe, Sandy Kaposa, Gibby Zulu and Edward Musonda – all five who won 16 honours each between 1968 and 1973.

Changwe was part of the glorious Warriors team of 1987 who

won the Premier League title, edging out second-placed Power Dynamos by a single point (3433) in the 2-points-for-a-win awarding system then in the 14-log Premier League which saw Zesco United finish as tail-enders with 13 points – winning only four matches and drawing 5 and losing a whole world of 17 from 26 that term.

In marked contrast, Changwe’s Warriors, from as many matches, won 13 (the most that season by any team), drew 8 and lost 4, scored 46 goals (averaging 2 per match) and conceded 31.

In that treble-winning season of 1987, Changwe also picked two more winners’ medals – one in the Independence Cup and the other coming in the Champion of Champions Cup. In emerging victorious in the Independence Cup, as the Mosi Cup was called then, Changwe’s Warriors beat Power Dynamos 3-2 with Maxon Mugala and Linos Chisanga among the scorers.

And in the Heroes and Unity Cup, formerly called the Chibuku Cup that same year, Changwe played a key role in his team’s 2-1 defeat of Nkana Red devils with the pocket of magic Noel Chama and Matthews Njovu sharing the spoils in a final in which the losing-finalists defender Mordon Malitoli was banished from the field for ungentlemanly play and behaviour.

Earlier, Changwe’s Warriors had ejected Nkana out of the 1878 Mosi Cup in the semi-final through a 3-1 thrashing in October before nailing Power to the cross in the November-held final.

Changwe’s other honours with Warriors came in the season opener, the Charity Shield – twice when his team beat Mutondo Stars 2-1 in 1988 and went on to thrash Dynamos 3-0 in the final at City of Lusaka’s Woodlands Stadium.

Changwe scored the third and winning goal with Maybin M’gaiwa and Timothy Mwitwa netting the first and second goals in that order.

And by scoring in the 1992 Charity Shield final, Changwe set an individual feat and record as the only Warriors’ defender to have ever scored in his team’s 7 overall wins since 1969.

Of the twelve different players to have scored Warriors’ 15 goals as winners of the season-opener aside Changwe – a defender – the rest have been either midfielders or forwards or strikers or wingers.

The group of 11 of non-defenders’ breed to have ever scored in Warriors’ 7 Charity shield wins in between 1969 to 1992 (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1987 and 1992), are forwards Freddie Ngulube, Sandy Kaposa, Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu, Maybin “Sharp Razor” M’gaiwa, Matthews Njovu and Christopher Kunda.

The others are midfielder/ wingers Boniface “Chitapochimo” Simutowe, wingers Liver Musonda, Noel Chama and Timothy “Tiger” Mwitwa and midfieldgovernor Sandford “Thunderbolt” Mvula.

Changwe also won the BP Challenge Cup and Champion of Champions Cup in 1989.

Come 1991, Changwe yet again, won another double of the BP Challenge Cup as well as the Champion of Champions Cup – in both cases – as a First Division team.

To put the icing on the cake, Changwe also won another double of the Charity Shield and the Heroes and Unity Cup in 1992.

Chipalo said the death of Mwamba has left a huge gap in the boxing fraternity because he was one of the few active promoters of the sport.

In a telephone interview with ZNBC news, Chipalo said Mwamba worked tirelessly to see young boxers become national icons.

“The OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre shares its deepest condolences to the Mumba family, friends and the entire sports fraternity in the country following the untimely demise of Thomas Mumba who until his death was the General Secretary of Zambia Hockey Association,” a statement reads.

“Mr Mumba was a devoted sports administrator who ensured that hockey at the OYDC Zambia became one of the fastest-growing sport in the country and subsequently helped form the first team which represented Zambia at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

“His immense contribution to sports development at OYDC and the country will be greatly missed at OYDC and the country will be greatly missed.”

Mwamba was later to become a double light-middleweight and lightweight Zambian champion.

According to a eulogy by Sports Analyst Musonda ‘Muzo’ Chibulu, the boxing promoter in 1992 became a born again Christian.

“Consequently, Mwamba quit boxing to concentrate on evangelizing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. He earned his moniker “Preacherman” due to his Christian faith,” Musonda said.

Mwamba came out of retirement in 2002 and chalked 8 fights before hanging his gloves once again to give birth to Exodus Boxing Promotions.

It was here that Esther Phiri was born and female boxing in Zambia cut its umbilical cord.

During his promotion Mwamba has produced quiet a number of great boxers both female and male.

Mwamba has been described as the Father of Female boxing in Zambia.

Meanwhile Coperbelt Boxing Association (COBA) Chairman Boniface Sokoni said the tournament which was supposed to be hosted this weekend has been put off.

“In view of the death of our beloved boxing legend and administrator Mr. Anthony Mwamba, we as COBA have decided to reschedule the tournament that was to take place this Saturday at Kalewa barracks to next Saturday 30th January, 2021, and this tournament will be dedicated in memory of Mr. Anthony Mwamba. On behalf of COBA, our heartfelt condolences to the Mwamba family and the boxing fraternity at large, MHSRIP,” reads Mr Sokoni’s statement.
