7-YEAR-OLD boy and his mother have died on the spot after a tree fell on them at home in Mkushi.

The incident occurred on Monday around 13:00 hours at Shimoomba farm in chief Mulungwe's chiefdom.

Central province police commissioner Chola Katanga confirmed the incident to the Daily Nation in an interview.

Mr. Katanga identified the victims as Cecilia Habeene

22, and son Cornelius Shimoomba of Chief Mulungwe's chiefdom.

Mr. Katanga said facts of the matter were that on the fateful day the husband Oden Shimoomba 31, around 08:00hours was clearing the area of the yard by cutting down trees that were adjacent to his house .

He said during the process, one of the trees did not fall but leaned on the other that was not cut.

Mr. Katanga said due to wind pressure, the tree that was leaning against the other fell down on the two victims

killing them instantly.

Mr. Katanga said by then Mr.Shimoomba had left home to go and grind maize at a nearby hammer mill and went back home around 13:00 hours after the mishap had occurred.

"The two bodies were taken to Masansa police post where the officers inspected them and found that they had blood stains on their heads," Mr. Katanga said.

Mr. Katanga added that police suspected no foul play and the two bodies were lying in Luano mini hospital mortuary awaiting burial.

Investors urged to engage locals before projects start … as Chitotela hails African Parks’ contribution to tourism sector TOURISM and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has advised African Parks who are the managers of Liuwa National Park to engage members of the community before embarking on any project.

Mr. Chitotela has observed that for any project to be successful it must be accepted by the community.

Speaking when he met management at Liuwa National Park in Kalabo district in Western Province, Mr. Chitotela explained that failure to engage members of the community on

any project; management will spend more on security as locals will not feel part and parcel of the project.

The Minister said that it is therefore Key for management to engage members of the public if the project is to succeed and avoid conflicts.

"I know that African Parks is ran by a lot of interest groups globally, but let's make sure that we strive by engaging the community and making sure that people accept that it is their project," Mr Chitotela said.

Mr. Chitotela who is also Pambashe Member of Parliament has however commanded African Parks for the good investment they have brought to Zambia's tourism sector.

The Minister stated that he was particularly happy as President of the African Commission for Tourism to learn that Zambia has a seven star Safari Lodge in Liuwa National Park.

Mr. Chitotela is in Western Province on a four day working visit.

Meanwhile, Chavuma acting district agricultural coordinator Patrick Kapila says he is happy that the district has so far received 585 metric tons of D Compound and 500 metric tons of Urea fertilizer.

He said with the speedy delivery of inputs, he anticipated that the farmers would quickly deposit their money and access the fertilizer.

And Chavuma district Commissioner Fredrick Foloshi said with the early delivery of inputs in the district, he expects that there would be no hunger in the district.

He thanked Nyimba Investment for ensuring that inputs were delivered to Chavuma early.

And Mr. Mulendema said his company has completed the delivery of inputs countrywide and thanked the government for the opportunity to be among farming inputs suppliers for the 2020/21 farming season.

CHARLES MUSONDA writes @SunZambian NORTH-WESTERN province minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu is happy that Nyimba Investment has completed delivery of farming inputs for the 2020/21 season.

Mr. Mubukwanu says farmers in the province will not be excused for failing to record a bumper harvest in the coming farming season.

He said President Lungu has placed agriculture as his government’s top priority and has hence ensured that commodity companies deliver farming inputs way ahead of the planting season.

He said this at the weekend when Nyimba Investment Head-Sales and Marketing Manager Willings Mulendema paid a courtesy call on him.

Mr. Mulendema also updated the minister on the delivery of inputs for the 2020/21 season.

Nyimba Investment was

contracted to supply 13,988 metric tons of Compound D and 10,566 metric tons of Urea fertilizer.

The company has since supplied the entire tonnage for the province, a move Mr. Mubukwanu said should encourage farmers to make their K 400 contributions for them to access the inputs.

Mr. Mubukwanu implored other commodity companies to emulate Nyimba’s gesture of delivering on time, saying in that way; agriculture would flourish.

He said commodity companies should support government’s efforts by ensuring they deliver the inputs on time.

He said despite the area being predominately dependent on the mining industry, it is cardinal that the province diversifies into agriculture.

Mr. Mubukwanu said once the province is able to produce excess crop, the region would export to neighbouring countries like Angola and the

THE University of Zambia (UNZA) is developing a test for the rapid detection of the coronavirus that will be low cost, use low power, and based on easy-to-use point of care devices.

According UNZA acting head of communications Brenda Bukowa, the multidisciplinary research project being undertaken by a team of researchers in the Department of Chemistry and Biological Sciences under the School of Natural Sciences, drew expertise in virology from the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr Bukowa said the goal of the research was to develop a method that uses a portable device and could detect the virus in a much shorter period compared to the conventional methods. Furthermore, she said, the method will require less expertise to perform, involve lower costs, and be less labour intensive.

Meanwhile, UNZA acting vice Chancellor, Dr Tamala Kambikambi has congratulated the multidisciplinary team of experts developing the novel method for the detection of the Coronavirus.

The acting vice Chancellor stated that when faced with a crisis such as the COVID-19, the country looked for answers from researchers from institutions like UNZA. She further said the multidisciplinary team of experts had shown commitment to finding solutions to the global crisis through the efforts being put in place to develop a method for testing for COVID-19.

Dr. Kambikambi said she was optimistic that the portable device to be developed would be of great importance in monitoring those that have the disease during therapy.

She added that the method for testing to be developed would add value in surveillance efforts being carried out in the communities and at strategic points owing to its ease in deployment and use.

She also expressed gratitude to the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) for providing initial funding for the research.

108 School Girls Get Pregnant In Pemba

P CHEMBE district health director, Cardson Kabwe has revealed that cases of malaria in the District have continued to rise due to various challenges faced by the district.

Dr. Kabwe disclosed that last year the district recorded 977 while 240 cases have already been recorded in 2020.

“The challenge we have in the district is that some people are frustrating government efforts in the fight against malaria through resisting programmes like the Indoor Residual Spraying which we conduct annually as Ministry of Health,” he explained.

Dr. Kabwe was speaking during a Malaria Task Force Meeting held in the council chamber this morning.

The District Health Director also explained that reports of some people not completing their malaria course have been rampant in the district.

“Government’s vision is to end malaria by the year 2021, but with the current attitude of our people here in Chembe this will prove to be a challenge to achieve unless everyone abides by the prevention measures and to adhere to prescribed way of taking malaria medication,” Dr. Kabwe observed.

And during deliberations, Headman Chabala bemoaned the delay by relevant authorities to bury abandoned open pits which he said are breeding grounds for mosquitoes which cause malaria.

Headman Chabala observed that community gatherings like funerals have contributed to increase in number of malaria cases adding that people at funeral sleep in open spaces without mosquito nets. “the community has no control over people to tell them to be carrying mosquito nets at gatherings such as funerals where people spend their nights in the open making them vulnerable to mosquito bites, this is problem as people get malaria from such gathering,” He said.

And Bishop Alfet Kunda called for increased sensitization in communities on the importance of seeking medical attention at clinics whenever they are sick and not to depend on prayers for healing.

Meanwhile, Acting Chembe District Administrative Officer Anthony Musonda urged the people of Chembe to take the fight against seriously saying malaria has claimed many lives.

“The Ministry of Health cannot win this battle alone, there is need for everyone to part of the fight, together we can achieve ending malaria by 2021, all we need to do is to ensure that we adhere to the health prevention guidelines such keeping our surroundings clean, sleeping under insecticide treated mosquito nets and adhering to malaria medication at all times,” he said.

Malaria cases on rise in Chembe MOH

The most hit areas are Kazomba, Messengers and part of Kyawama townships.

This came to light when Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister, Jonas Chanda, inspected the water upgrade project being undertaken by the water utility firm.

Project Engineer Mufalo Kabika said that if project was completed, the issue of erratic water supply would be resolved.

He attributed the delay in completing the project to lack of a dedicated Zesco power supply line to avert the impact of load-shedding.

Mr Kabika said the current load management by Zesco had left the water utility company in shambles and that about K1.5 million was required to facilitate the undertaking. ‘’But what we have done is to write to the Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection for support to finance the dedicated Zesco power supply line to interconnect all production facilities, and we are just waiting for the response,’’ he said.

Mr Kabika said the plant could be commissioned but as long it was not connected to a dedicated power supply line, the status would remain the same. ‘’And if funds are made available, the project is expected to be completed by December,’’ he said.

And Dr Chanda urged the water utility company to expedite the project so that the water shortage could come to an end.

He said he would prioritise procurement of the K1.5 million for the dedicated Zesco power line. ‘’With my team at the ministry, we are going to make sure that this is prioritized so that people can start getting clean and safe drinking water,’’ he said.

The Minister said a number of clients that were not receiving clean water was too huge, hence the need to expedite the process. ‘’That is an emergency, so let us prioritize by doing what we can to avert this situation,’’ he said.

18 months simple imprisonment for death of mother THE Chipata High Court has sentenced a 53-year-old woman of Mwaula Zumba village in Chief Mumbi’s area of Petauke district to 18 months simple imprisonment for killing her 86-year-old mother.

Rosemary Phiri appeared before Justice Getrude Chawatama, who is sitting in as Chipata High Court Judge for one count of murder, which was later reduced to manslaughter due to the circumstances in which the offence was committed.

Particulars of the offence were that Phiri on February 21, 2019 in Petauke, unlawfully caused the death of 86-year-old Catherine Phiri.

Phiri readily admitted the charge of manslaughter when it came up for plea and was convicted accordingly.

It is alleged that Phiri, who was sharing the same house with her mother was in a habit of beating her up accusing her of bewitching her child.

On February 21, 2019, the victim was found unconscious in a pool of blood with one hand seemingly broken.

When she regained consciousness she told the people that her daughter Rosemary Phiri was the one who caused her injuries and died some hours later due to severe injuries and loss of blood.

According to the medical report from Petauke District Hospital, Catherine Phiri, died as a result of severe injuries and hemorrhage shock after being beaten by her 53-yaer old daughter.

And in mitigation Phiri, who was represented by Legal Aid Counsel, Crippen Siatwiinda, said that she was remorseful of the offence committed, adding that she has learnt a lesson the period she has been in remand prison.

Mr Siatwiinda also asked the court to put a regard to the report from Chainama Mental Hospital, which concluded that the convict had stopped taking Anti Retro-Viral drugs (ARVs) 2 years before committing the offence, which resulted into encephalopathy disorder.

And when passing judgment, Justice Chawatama, said that the court had noted what Phiri said in mitigation through her lawyer, but that the offence which she committed was a serious one.

She therefore, sentenced Phiri to 18 months simple imprisonment effective from the date of arrest. – BREEZEFM.

MAGISTRATE in Choma expressed shock towards a man for demanding the clothes he bought for his wife after he suspected that she was having an extra marital affair.

This was in a matter in which 37 years old Maketo Nalungwana, a Carpenter pleaded guilty to Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm before Principal Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili in the Choma Fast Track Court for Gender Based Violence.

Particulars of the offence are that Nalungwana on August 4 Assaulted his wife Lida Sinakooma and thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

When he appeared for Facts before Court, Nalungwana dismissed assertions

from his wife that he beat her up because she gave out the clothes he bought for her.

According to him, he slapped his wife of 14 years because of her infidelity.

Nalungwana: No. Court: What was not correct?

Nalungwana: The part where it says I beat her because I went to demand for the clothes which she had given out. The truth is

I hereby find you guilty in your own admission and convict you accordingly.

In mitigation, Nalungwana pleaded for lenience and told Court that he is a breadwinner of the family.

Ignatius Ndeleki, 38, a bus driver, Brighton Hakalembe , 30, Bus Conductor, and Nchimunya Mwiinga, 34, a Hairdresser are jointly charged with Unlawful Possession of illicit beer contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that the three jointly and whilst acting together had in their possession 41×20 litres of Kachasu without a permit as required by law.

The three were apprehended on August 11 in Choma district of Southern Province.

When they appeared for plea before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, Ndeleki and Hakalembe willingly admitted the charge against them while Mwiinga denied any wrong doing.

In admitting the offence, Ndeleki told the

Court that he was tempted by the money he was offered to have the contraband transported.

After recording pleas of guilty in respect of Ndeleki and Hakalembe, and plea of not guilty for Mwiinga, the Court adjourned the matter to August 20 for Facts and Application for the third accused.

The three were remanded on police bond.

When the matter came up for Facts before Principal Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili, Gandula admitted that the statement was a true reflection of what transpired.

According to the statement dictated by Senior Public Prosecutor Alex Syulikwa, the accused stole the Bicycle after the complainant parked it outside a named Bakery in Choma's Central Business District.

An investigation was instituted and the Bicycle was recovered in Gandula's house.

After the Court slapped him with 6 months jail term with hard labour but suspended the sentence for 24 months, Gandula thanked God for coming to his rescue.

Masauso Tembo: Actions speak louder Sinda MP makes community development his business

SUN REPORTER writes @SunZambian HE youthful businessman turned lawmaker may make headlines for the wrong reasons but the Independent Member of Parliament for Sinda Constituency’s dedication to development is unquestionable.

Honourable Masauso Tembo is one hard working MP’s who recently grabbed public attention when a video of his “cry” for development on Parliament TV went viral. Many voices insisted that the mastering of the English language was not to be used as a measure of success.

The MP may have been chided for the vocal acrobatics of his Parliamentary debates but he has proved his worth in the political arena and his contribution to development in the Eastern Province is unmatched.

Born on 29 March 1987, Honourable Tembo, popularly known as Kazungula, has been delivering on the promise to bring development to his community since his election into office in 2016.

man by profession won the Parliamentary seat from Levy Ngoma of the MMD, who had served in the constituency for three consecutive terms.

“I want to experience how people feel as that will me understand their challenges better and be able to provide lasting solutions. I was not elected to be in Lusaka only but to be in touch with the people who put their trust in me to be who I am is today,” he said.

VER K35 million financial relief has been disbursed by Investrust Bank Plc to its clients as a way of assisting their business cash flow during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 relief packages include loan restructuring, says Investrust Bank Managing Director, Simangolwa Shakalima.

Mr Shakalima explained that about 126 customers had benefited from the bank’s Covid-19 relief facility and loan restructur-

ing.

He said in an interview that in the wake of Covid-19, the Bank had tried to provide solutions to help individuals as well as business sail through the current storm caused by Covid-19.

“One of the key things we have done as a bank when we see businesses experiencing cash flows during this period, we have actually given them relief in terms of loan payment and restructured their loans.

“We noticed the client is not able to meet its obligations not because they do not want to because they have been impacted,” Mr Shakalima said.

He said the bank was instrumental in assisting its clients particularly the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) who had been heavily impacted

by Covid-19.

Mr Shakalima said the Bank had been able to provide tailor made solutions for individual in-

stitutions and persons that had been affected by the pandemic.

Investrust, he said, had also been able to extend loan tenures

for its clients to give them more time to settle their loans.

A spokesman for the Petroleum Ministry, which led the bill’s drafting, did not reply to a request for comment and the president’s office declined to comment.

Maize farmers urged to supply FRA to ensure relief food stock BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes @SunZambian FARMERS should sell their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) because it can be used as relief food when there is a drought or floods, says Nyimba Member of Parliament, Olipa Phiri.

Ms Phiri emphasised the need for Zambia to have enough stocks so as to use during times of natural calamities such as floods and droughts.

She was speaking when she inspected fertiliser supplies for the 2020/21 farming season in the Nyimba Investment warehouses.

“As government we are encouraging our farmers that when they want to sell maize let them sell it to the government. Once the maize is sold to the government it can be used as relief food when there is a drought or floods,” she said.

Ms Phiri, who is also min-

ister in the Office of the Vice President, urged farmers in Nyimba district to only sale their maize to FRA. She indicated that once the maize was sold to the FRA, it would help up the figures in the country’s reserve stocks.

Ms Phiri also thanked Nyimba Investments for its timely delivery of inputs for the season saying the move would encourage farmers to make their K400 contributions.

Beneficiaries of the Farmer Input Supply Programme (FISP) are required to make a K 400 contribution.

The government had contracted Nyimba Investment to supply 2,364.5 metric tonnes of Compound D fertiliser and 1,864.5 metric tonnes of Urea for the 2020/21 farming season. Nyimba has since completed the delivery of the entire quantities.

In response, Nyimba Investment Head-Sales and

Marketing, Willings Mulendema, said that his company was happy that it had completed deliveries of fertiliser in all the provinces where they were contracted.

Mr Mulendema said the reason for the speedy delivery was to ensure that farmers plant in good time as envisaged by the government.

He thanked the government for engaging Nyimba to be among the suppliers for the 2020/21 farming season.

“Our assurance to the government is that we will not let them down,” Mr Mulendema said.

And Nyimba District Agriculture Coordinator (DACO), Robbie Musendo, said after the farmers realised that Nyimba had completed the entire delivery of the inputs, they speeded up the process of making deposits.

Mr Musendo said Nyimba had 12,430 beneficiaries out of which 984 had already made their deposits.

He said with the speedy delivery of inputs, he anticipated that the farmers would quickly deposit their money and access the fertilizer.

And Chavuma district Commissioner Fredrick Foloshi said with the early delivery of inputs in the district, he expects that there would be no hunger in the district.

He thanked Nyimba Investment for ensuring that inputs were delivered to Chavuma early.

And Mr. Mulendema said his company has completed the delivery of inputs countrywide and thanked the government for the opportunity to be among farming inputs suppliers for the 2020/21 farming season Indeed, all commodity suppliers must get on board to secure a well organized agricultural sector that will create more opportunities for communities to contribute to the national economy.

The Alex Chola fact-file BIRTH AND ROOTS

HUMAN COMPUTER, MASTER-DRIBBLER Born on June 6, 1956 in the DR Congo, Alex Chola, in his formative years, played for Zairean side Solbena FC in Lubumbashi before he trekked to Ndola where his lived briefly.

Pascal, the young brother Alex, by his own admission, described his older brother as precocious and that he got huge inspiration from the master dribbler.

According to Pascal, himself a former Ndola United who also played for Power Dynamos like his brother, said Alex showed extraordinary footballing skills from an early age, attracting envy here, there and everywhere.

It therefore came as no surprise that the teenager, aged 18 in 1974, joined Mufulira Blackpool in what turned out to be the Launchpad of a truly illustrious career that would span14 years.

According to Pascal, himself a former Ndola United who also played for Power Dynamos like his brother, said Alex showed extraordinary footballing skills from an early age, attracting envy here, there and everywhere.

Continued from yesterday CLUB CAREER Runners-up Blackpool on the other hand, from as many games, won 15, drew 10 times, were defeated on five occasions, netted 68 times and had their net breached 53 times.

Despite Blackpool’s incredible performance in 1978, to the utter surprise of their faithful and neutral observers alike, would finish the season in 15th place, one of the two relegation positions. Sadly enough, the basement position was equally occupied by fellow town-mates Butondo Western Tigers like it were a conspiracy of a kind; both ended on 23 points each from 30 matches in a 2-point-for-a-win awarding system then.

Luckily for both teams, despite being certain and conformed confirmed candidates for relegation that season, they retained their positions in the topflight after the local FA increased the number of teams from 16 to 18 the following term. And despite the reprieve, Chola was not in the least interested in being a Blackpool player any longer.

In December of the same poor-finishing season, Chola, after vehement denials that he was on the verge of joining newly promoted Power Dynamos, it emerged that he had actually sealed a deal with the Kitwe side.

Come 1980, he was a Dynamos’ player – offered a lucrative, irresistible contract.

Like was the case at Blackpool, like a comet of magic, Chola’s start at Arthur Davies Stadium was indelibly instant.

He delivered both goals on his debut, in his team’s 2-0 bashing of Green Buffaloes in the Champion of Champions semi-final tie and would also score a goal in the final, a 3-0 destruction of Wanderers at Dag Hammarskjold Stadium. Dynamos would defend the Champions of Champions cup the following year.

More success was to follow the boy who soon came to be

nicknamed “The Computer”. In his maiden season for his new team in 1980, Chola led Dynamos to a 2-0 beating of Army side Buffaloes in the Independence Cup final staged at the same venue, four days before Zambia’s 16th Independence anniversary.

Peter Kaumba and Ronald Chinku were Dynamos’ assassins on the day – October 20, 1980 to be exact.

Chola ended the season as his team’s top-scorer.

Come 1982, Chola’s Dynamos’ would win the Independence Cup, as the Mosi Cup was known then, taking Chililabombwe side Konkola Blades to the cleaners with a 5-0 demolition at Dag Hammarskjold Stadium in a final that was strangely played on January 2, 1983.

The men who mercilessly and remorselessly put Konkola to the sword were Stafford Mutalama and Kaumba who shared two goals apiece with majestic maestro Chola providing the other.

Runners-up to Nkana FC in the Premier League and runnersup to Egyptian giants Arab Contractors in the African Cup winners Cup over two legs (4-0 on aggregate), Chola’s consolation was that of emerging runner-up to national top-scorer and club and country colleague mate Kaumba.

Elsewhere, Chola was a vital

cog in the Dynamos’ squad that won the Six-Nation Rothmans Invitational Trophy tournament staged in the Ivorian capital of Abidjan in May 1983.

On the road to glory, Chola & Co narrowly beat hosts Stella Abidjan 2-1, thrashed Gabonese side FC105 4-1 and tanned

goalkeeper Blackwell Chalwe who saved one spot-kick to send his team into the celebration and jubilation.

By the same twist of fate, both perished in the April 1993 Gabon Air Disaster alongside 28 other passengers aboard a military Buffalo plane.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER Chola, the man they affectionately nicknamed Computer, made his full international appearance for Zambia on September 14, 1975 in an African Cup of Nations (AfCON) qualifier against Malawi in Lusaka in a blistering 3-3 stalemate and would also star in the return away fixture two weeks later on September 28 in a 6-1 capitulation of the host nation.

Sadly for Chola, his Zambia side would fail to qualify for the 1976 Ethiopia AfCON championship as they were sent packing in the second round.

Having beaten Uganda 2-1 at home on October 26, 1975, Zambia would be trounced 3-0 in the corresponding fixture on November 11.

Chola would make up for the 1976 misery of his Zambia failing to qualify for the AfCON by being part and parcel of the 1978 and 1982 showpieces in Ghana and Libya respectively.

In the Ghana-held tournament, Chola’s Zambia went out in the first round. She lost 2-1 to the hosts with Green Buffaloes’ Obby Kapita netting the consolation for the Brian Tiler coached KK11, as Zambia was fondly dubbed then.

Speaking after unveiling former Kabwe Warriors FC manager Justin Palmer as the clubs general manager Mumba said management is putting everything in place to ensure that the team wins promotion to the national division one league before going into the Super League.

Mumba said the appointment of Palmer as the Clubs general manager is the first step to ensuring that Yamoto returns to the Super Division within a space of two years.

Mumba directed Palmer, a former football director at AC Millan and Juventus Youth Camps to ensure that the club achieves football success while remaining financially sustainable.

“Justin’s coming in is testament that we are now moving to the next level. We anticipate that we will be in national division next season and there after we don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t go to super league so we are talking about a possible time of two season that is two years. “We are not leaving any stone unturned, including the players. Obviously as we move to the super league, the cost get high, because the players are more expensive and they need to be motivated to a higher extent, we are looking to win every game and that doesn’t come chip because as you know every football player wants his winning bonus and our job is to take all of that and put it together and deliver a great team,” Mumba said.

2022 AFCON qualifiers in November kick off THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that qualifiers for the Cameroon 2022 Africa Cup of Nations will resume in November with Zambia facing Botswana in back-to-back fixtures.

According to a circular by CAF to its Member Associations, the qualifiers will

be staged on the window of November 9-17 with the concluding matches pushed to March-22-30 next year.

The tournament’s postponement from 2021 to 2022 has been confirmed.

Koeman: Barcelona name former player as new head coach MADRID - Ronald Koeman has been named the new head coach of Barcelona two days after the club sacked Quique Setien.

FAZ cannot group all the candidates at the same time owing to the covid-19 restrictions.

“We have coaches in the provinces that are critical in talent identification program. We have had various programs like the FIFA Youth coaches program and other trainings that are meant to sustain our grassroots program,” he says.

FAZ has a running partnership with the Croatia Football Federation that has opened doors for coach education.

Zambia has been invited to an eight nation tournament in Croatia that will be held from September 23-29 while Cosafa has announced that it will introduce a competition from under-15 teams in partnership with the UEFA Assist programme.

Zulu says the introduction of the under-15 national team will help sustain the developments in the grassroots.

“We have rolled out a strong grassroots program that has seen us have an under-16 league that is fully running,” he says.

Under-15 National Team takes shape THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) under-15 national team project is slowly taking shape with the technical directorate commencing assessment of junior players starting with the Lusaka pool.

With the Croatia Invitational Tournament for the under-15 teams and the soon to be introduced COSAFA tournament for the same age bracket, FAZ has

gotten down to finalising a running the establishment of the team.

Technical Director Lyson Zulu says the assemblage of the team will be done within strict adherence to covid-19 guidelines.
