A New Chapter in Comfort

Only hours after our last guests departed for the season, our incredible team kicked off a major remodel project in the guest cabins. As a result, the 2025 season will debut revitalized historic log cabins personally designed by the ranch owners.

Updates include beautifully redesigned bathrooms and kitchenettes, thoughtfully selected fixtures, furnishings and artwork. Every detail has been carefully selected to honor the ranch's storied past while offering an elevated, comfortable experience Our aim is to ensure that your time at Lost Creek Ranch is equally comfortable as it is memorable

Our ongoing cabin renovations at the ranch have proven to be more than just a journey into modern comfort; they’ve become a window into the past

As we carefully updated the historic log cabins originally constructed under the stewardship of Albert Schwabacher, we’ve unearthed some remarkable treasures that speak to the ranch's rich history

Schwabacher had a prosperous career in business and finance, but his passion for fly fishing landed him in Jackson and owner of Lost Creek in 19XX As staff peeled layers of logs for restoration, we found old newspaper clippings from San Fransisco paper dated 1928, crated mail boxes shipped to the ranch under it’s original township name “Elk, Wyoming” and original loomed carpet from Abercrombie and Fitch dated 1926 As we organize artifacts accumulated around the ranch it’s with great excitement to share that a history book about Lost Creek is also underway

Grizzly Bear 399 | A Famous Friend of the Ranch

Grizzly 399, a true legend of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, captured the hearts of wildlife enthusiasts around the world with her resilience, prolific motherhood, and majestic presence. Born in 1996, Grizzly 399 rose to fame as one of the most photographed and studied bears in the region, known for raising numerous litters of cubs and navigating the complexities of living in a habitat shared with humans. Her unique ability to adapt and teach her young to do the same contributed to her legacy as a symbol of wildness and maternal strength.

In 2024 we started the season with a staff viewing of the documentary 399: Queen of the Tetons. The film was educational for our new staff that have never lived in grizzly bear territory and also offered a connection to the bear and her offspring as so many would travel through the ranch annually. This seasonal journey made her a familiar and revered presence as her cubs ambled across the wedding pasture or her daughter 610's brief stint in the barn’s grain bin. These visits were a reminder of the delicate balance between the natural world and human presence.

Grizzly 399’s annual passage through Lost Creek Ranch was not just a fleeting visit but a significant part of her routine. In a touching tribute to her longstanding relationship with the ranch, she was spotted on the ranch’s game cameras one last time, spending her final weekend in the peaceful expanse under the Tetons before her passing. Her presence during those days served as a farewell, a moment for those who followed her story to reflect on her impact and legacy.

Grizzly 399’s life and connection with Lost Creek Ranch left an indelible mark, reminding all who encountered her story of the importance of coexistence and respect for the wilderness. She leaves behind a powerful legacy that continues to inspire awe and admiration for the resilience of nature and the creatures that embody it.

We know her legacy will remain strong in the valley and look forward to welcoming future visits from her offspring.
