Life is Art
I want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.
Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world, and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Mount Juliet and the greater Nashville area to uplift our spirits, boost your productivity and ignite your creativity.
What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Here’s to being uniquely you!

The Sugar Pea Fashion Exchange
ARTICLE BY SOFIA DELILAH

With family at the forefront of her inspiration and mission, April Murphy, owner of Sugar Pea Fashion exchange shop in Mount Juliet, works daily to support her local community of women and their style needs. The Sugar Pea provides Mount Juliet with luxury, budget-friendly shopping. Serving its customers for over 14 years, The Sugar Pea works with each client to sell their gently loved luxury items for resale to the next grateful owner or shop for new items.
SETTING A LEGACY OF HARD WORK, IN STYLE
owner, April Murphy
“WE STRIVE TO WELCOME EVERY SHOPPER IN THE STORE WITH A SMILE AND AN UNPARALLELED SHOPPING EXPERIENCE.”
Murphy explains, “We strive to welcome every shopper in the store with a smile and an unparalleled shopping experience. We carry sizes 00-3x and you will find seasonal on-trend clothing, shoes, jewelry, designer handbags, and formal wear.”
While Murphy purchased The Sugar Pea from its previous owners just a few years ago, she has, with her family’s support, continued to build an incredible shop that serves the women of Mount Juliet and their high-end fashion needs. “My favorite part of owning The Sugar Pea is getting to know our customers; Their likes, dislikes, and style. We talk about the weather, family, we talk about it! It’s like having girl time every day when I’m at the shop.”
Between hosting events at the shop as well as working in her other business with real estate, Murphy enjoys spending time with her husband, Rick, of 30 years while they travel, spend time on the lake with their two labs, and enjoy time with their three adult children, Brandon, Emily, and Chalee.
As an entrepreneur, Murphy has a lot of wisdom in running a business. If she could lend advice to anyone in the community, she says, “Find your niche, reinvest your profits to build and scale your business. Find key people so you can leverage your time so you are not running in burnout mode, and most of all, have fun!”
The Sugar Pea is open to the public Monday through Saturday 10am-5pm and accepts take-ins Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm (no appointment necessary).

CUSTOMIZE YOUR FAVORITE NFL SWAG WITH DANI DESIGNS
ARTICLE BY SOFIA DELILAH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY VARIOUS AND KRISTEN EVANS PHOTOGRAPHY
Mount Juliet City Lifestyle sits down with Danielle Landry to learn more about her life as a mom, a wife, and the owner of a custom NFL apparel business.
DANIELLE! WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE YOU AND YOUR SWEET FAMILY IN MOUNT JULIET. TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROOTS, WHERE DID YOU GROW UP AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY LIVED HERE?
I am originally from Connecticut; I was born in Stamford but primarily grew up in a smaller town called Cheshire. I went to a private school in my town for middle and high school and then moved to Boston for college. I met my husband in college, and when he was drafted to the Titans we moved to Mount Juliet. We instantly fell in love with this city, and I couldn’t imagine living elsewhere. We have lived here for a little over six years – which is so crazy because it feels like just yesterday we started this whole journey!
WE ARE OBSESSED WITH THE BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS YOU HAVE. TELL US WHAT GOT YOU STARTED IN THIS BUSINESS /INDUSTRY.
When Harold started playing for the Titans, I knew I wanted to represent him with some game-day gear. Unfortunately, I discovered there wasn’t a ton of options to choose from – and the options that did exist were so expensive. I knew there was a way for me to create my own unique items without the hefty price tag. Once I started creating my own designs, I was hooked. I have always been creative, and I realized this was the perfect outlet for that creativity – especially as a stayat-home mom. In the beginning, I was just making gear for me and my family, but some friends from the Titans began asking for gear as well. Honestly, it was really fun
to work with them to find new, unique projects; a lot of my initial inspiration came from conversations with friends who had their own ideas on how they wanted to represent their significant other. Eventually, I needed a way to mainstream all of my orders. I spent many hours building a customer-friendly website so that I could ditch my hand-written orders in my trusty notebook, and legitimize my business.
YOU ARE NO STRANGER TO MODELING, ARE YOU STILL ACTIVE IN THAT PURSUIT? WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE ADVENTURE IN MODELING?
I have done some smaller-scale modeling jobs, but never took it past that. It was always something my mom wanted me to pursue further, but I didn’t take it seriously. I probably should have though; maybe it could have paid for my college education! I honestly enjoy just getting in front of the camera for my own business now. It’s fun to play around with the reels and create new content.
WHAT IS IT LIKE BEHIND THE SCENES AS A WIFE OF A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER? WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES YOU HAVE SHARED AS A FAMILY?
Oh gosh, this is such a loaded question. I feel like now that we are going into our seventh season in the NFL, I have learned so much and feel quite wise when it comes to this subject. I think everyone has a different system that works for their home, but Harold’s job is extremely demanding – physically, mentally, emotionally… all of it. It is also a 24/7 365-day job, and I think people miss that aspect. They see the benefits of his career, but not the behind-the-scenes of how he got to this place, and how he continues to thrive here. He is consistently

working to improve his skills, and that takes a lot of time and dedication. I am extremely proud to be his wife, but it can take its toll if we don’t actively prioritize each other, and our time as a family with our kids. We find a system that works for us in the off-season where Harold can be more present, and then a different system during the season, where I take a majority of the load so that he can focus on football. We really are so grateful, and God has blessed our family abundantly. We know this is just a chapter of our lives, and we try to be as present as possible and enjoy every bit of it.
I think some of my favorite memories recently have been watching our oldest son fall in love with football. He eats, sleeps, breathes football. He was always the Mama’s boy, but has very quickly become obsessed with his Dad. Watching Harold and Greyson run drills in the backyard, go on runs at the high school track, or analyze film together is really sweet. Both of our boys admire Harold so much, and I know how proud they are to tell all their friends –and even strangers– about him!
TELL US HOW WE CAN GET OUR HANDS ON SOME CUSTOM PIECES AND WHAT THAT PROCESS LOOKS LIKE.
My business model is definitely unique, and not always preferred by my customers. Customers cannot just shop my website at all times. I only open my website during a “drop” where I will accept a certain number of orders and then close my site again. I know it kind of sounds crazy, but here’s why I do it this way: I don’t run this business fulltime. Between my kid's schedules, my husband’s schedule, my teaching schedule, and just my sanity, I cannot allow a constant stream of orders. Also, I don’t keep stock of any material. After a “drop” is closed, I order the necessary material from my distributors to complete my orders. This helps keep
costs down, and keeps my office from turning into chaos. Once everything arrives, I work on assembling all of my customers’ pieces. It usually takes three to four weeks of turnaround time because every item is 100% unique to that customer and their wishes. I always encourage people to follow my Instagram page so that they can stay up-to-date on when the next “drop” will be. I post in advance and post on the day the “drop” opens so people can shop the site. I recommend to my customers that they brainstorm prior to the “drop,” and get online early, because I will close my site as soon as I get the number of orders I am striving for in that drop.
FIVE QUICK QUESTIONS:

Old Hickory Social & Marketplace
Meet the Team Behind the Newly Established, Upscale Merchant Mall
In 2022, Rachel Thomas and her husband, Bruce, decided to purchase a building space in Old Hickory to serve as the new location for their company, RT Medical, LLC; a very successful Clinical Respiratory Homecare company that they have owned since 2006. Initially, their hope in purchasing the new building was to not only have a new location for RT Medical but also to find another medical tenant who could lease the extra available space directly beside it. Fast forward to December 2023, the Thomas’ continued their search for potential tenants to no avail and they knew something had to be done to fill the available space. That’s when the idea for Old Hickory Social & Marketplace was born.
This exciting decision quickly set Thomas on the unexpected path to opening an upscale, luxury merchant mall with the help of her assistant from RT Medical, Jenny Nguyen-Clark, who would become Old Hickory Social’s Director of Operations. It’s even more exciting to note how quickly the new marketplace came together. Old Hickory Social launched its website on New Year's Eve and began constructing the space on January 5th. And in March 2024, it officially opened its doors. From the time Old Hickory Social
was formed as an idea to the time of its soft-opening was exactly 60 days!
Thomas and Nguyen-Clark have worked diligently to propel Old Hickory Social & Marketplace into a widely popular merchant mall that serves as the go-to spot not only for a unique shopping experience but for the many community events the store proudly hosts as well. Old Hickory Social is where shoppers can come to take part in weekly activities like block parties, political meet and greets, fashion show kick-off parties, chamber of commerce events, classic car shows, and art classes, just to name a few. Giving back to the community is also something that Thomas and Nguyen-Clark are passionate about. Most recently, they held a ‘Back to School Supply Giveaway’ at Old Hickory Social where countless school supplies were given to help kiddos as they prepare for the new school year.
What began as an idea, was quickly put into motion and became something where people come together to experience fun, shopping, and most importantly, community. Old Hickory Social, we are glad you’re here!

SUCCESS for SHOES
OPENING UP OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI
Since 2006, Soles4Souls, one of the top-rated nonprofits in the country, has been collecting new and used shoes to help fight poverty all around the world. In 2020, another program, 4EveryKid, was added to the organization to provide children experiencing homelessness throughout the United States with new, branded athletic shoes.
"That year, we served about 20,000 kids," shares the organization's CEO and president, Buddy Teaster. "In this fiscal year, we served 150,000 kids; next year, there'll be 250,000 kids. That growth and reach sounds great until you know that the number of kids experiencing homelessness in our public schools is more than one million."
In Metro Nashville Public Schools alone, he says there are between 4,000 and 5,000 kids classified as homeless. Unfortunately, children who don't have a quality pair of well-fitted athletic shoes may have physical discomfort, feel like they don't belong or get bullied by classmates. This response can lead to poor attendance and lower grades. They may also be unable to take part in physical education or sports.
"We've been working in this community in Wisconsin for a long time, and we were there last year," says Buddy. "This big kid comes up and says, 'I'm sure you don't have any size 15.' We not only had one pair in his size but two, and we gave him both. The first thing he said to his mother is, 'Now I can go out for the basketball team.'"
To make other kids' dreams come true, 4EveryKid needs support. "As hard as everybody's working, there's still a long way to go," he says. "These kids, through no fault of their own, don't deserve to be shut out of a normal, happy childhood. And without these opportunities, there's a bunch of talent that will be lost."
People can donate (as little as $20.00 can provide a child with high-quality athletic shoes) and volunteer. It's as easy as hitting a button on the website.

[Eli] knew he was being gifted more than just a house.
Eli Tice, a marine who grew up in West Virginia, has called Tennessee home for the last eight years. Assigned to 1st battalion 2nd Marine Division as an infantry rifleman, in March of 2010, his unit was deployed to southern Afghanistan. On May 24, 2010, his squad was on an early morning patrol. They entered a compound that was booby-trapped with pressure plate IEDs. Eli was the second Marine to enter that compound, and he initiated the first of many IEDs. His right leg was immediately amputated, as well as his right thumb. He was evacuated back to Walter Reed in D.C. and began the long journey of recovery.
For many, those next months of surgeries and appointments can lead to giving up and losing motivation. Eli instead chose to use all his energy to acclimate to his prosthetic leg and regain a normal life. In February of 2012, Eli was officially medically retired and began his path towards becoming a private and commercial helicopter pilot and receiving his aviation mechanic certificate, followed by a move to middle Tennessee in 2016. A year later, Eli decided to utilize his G.I. benefits and attended MTSU where he graduated in 2023 with a bachelor’s in aerospace. Now, Eli begins his biggest and best journey yet as he and his fiancé, Kori, celebrated the arrival of their first child this past February.
In 2021 Tunnels to Towers (T2T) invited Eli to be a part of their smart home program. T2T is responsible for providing hundreds of mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans, first responders, and gold star families. When Eli was asked to be a part of the Tunnels to Towers smart home program, he knew he
was being gifted more than just a house. Tunnels to Towers provides the gift of freedom and security. Freedom from one of life’s most significant financial burdens and security in knowing he will always have a safe home where his family can grow and prosper.
Every year in September, T2T holds its annual 5k run in New York City. It was at his first run that Eli met Jenna Allen, a Mt. Juliet local who has helped in fundraising efforts for T2T since she joined the family business in 2015. Jenna and Buddy Allen Carpet One (BACO) have proudly been raising financial support for foundations like T2T for several years.
When Jenna was tasked with organizing her first BACO Golf Tournament to help benefit Tunnels to Towers, she was unsure of how she would succeed. But the community of Mt. Juliet and the relationships that she had created helped propel the tournament to exceed all expectations in year one and the BACO Golf Tournament has been a successful story every year since. Ninety-five percent of their fundraising still comes from inside of Wilson County lines. Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of Tunnels to Towers Foundation, has even remarked on the spectacular community support we have in Wilson County. The Carpet One name has supported T2T by donating all the flooring and installations of flooring in the new builds for their recipients.
Keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities to support T2T, the BACO Golf Tournament, and other causes they support!
