We share most sincere condolences to all our Park Cities families, neighbors, friends of families, and classmates. Peace be with you always, and in All Ways.

Through these beloved connections we learn values like compassion, responsibility, trust, encouragement - and the growth and utilization of all of these traits are bound through that one relationship. Whether you are Chosen or biological - family means being part of a group bound by love, support and shared experiences. It offers a foundation of security, identity and belonging. It shapes our worldview, helps us navigate challenges, and gives us a safe space to be ourselves.

THE ROOM TO GROW LUNCHEON BRINGS
DALLAS TOGETHER TO SUPPORT
HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN WITH COMPASSION AND COLORFUL TRANSFORMATION.
Every spring, Dallas comes alive with generosity and glamour for one of its most heartwarming and stylish philanthropic events. The 7th Annual Room to Grow Luncheon, benefitting Dec My Room, transformed NorthPark’s South Court into a lush, exotic escape. Surrounded by the mall’s renowned collection of Jonathan Borofsky’s “Five Hammering Men” and an abundance of over-the-top florals, guests gathered to support a mission rooted in love: transforming hospital rooms into healing havens for children in extended care.
This year’s safari-themed setting wasn’t just eye-catching—it set the tone for an afternoon of philanthropy, fashion, and heartfelt storytelling. “From the flower-bedecked boxwood photo wall to the gorgeous table centerpieces, the feel transported attendees from Dallas to a far-away locale,” shared Heather Smith, Dec My Room North Dallas area director.
With the help of dedicated co-chairs Ashley O’Malley and Heather Winn, the event sold out weeks in advance; its fastest sell-out to date, even accommodating extra guests at tables. “It was a true testament to the Dallas community’s support,” Smith noted.
One of the afternoon’s highlights was a sophisticated fashion presentation led by Neiman Marcus’s Jodi Kahn and Bruce Pask. Showcasing stylish, curated looks for both women and men, the show left guests
“WITH THE HELP OF ATTENDEES’ SUPPORT, hundreds OF CHILDREN’S ROOMS ARE NOW fully funded , AND SPECIAL PROJECTS WE’VE HOPED TO BEGIN ARE FUNDED
buzzing—and shopping. “Many fashion pieces were purchased by very lucky attendees!” Smith shared.
But beyond the glamour, the luncheon honored two meaningful lives. Dallas philanthropist Kameron Westcott was recognized for her steadfast support of Dec My Room, and attendees were deeply touched by the story of Ellison Liechty, a young girl who received one of the organization’s room makeovers before passing away. Her mother, Julie, shared her perspective on how a personalized hospital space brought peace during an unimaginable time. “Attendees were visibly moved, especially the parents,” Smith shared. “Her story inspired donations to create more rooms and mental health transformations.”
Thanks to the outpouring of support, this year’s luncheon exceeded all fundraising expectations. “Hundreds of children’s rooms are now fully funded,” Smith announced. “And special projects we’ve hoped to begin are now possible at North Texas children’s hospitals.”
Adding to the afternoon’s excitement, the luxury raffle and Big Board auction generated plenty of buzz this year. “The NorthPark Spending Spree was the most
“HER
coveted raffle item,” Smith shared. “And the donation of the Hästens bed was a major talking point—our largest single fundraising item this year!” A luxury Cabo Casita stay for eight was another fan favorite.
Made possible by the seamless collaboration with NorthPark Center, Neiman Marcus, Bread Winners Café & Bakery, and Zodiac Staffing, the luncheon once again proved to be a beautiful blend of style, purpose, and community spirit.
Looking ahead, the Dec My Room team invites the community to get involved through year-round donations, volunteering, service projects, and continued advocacy. As this beloved luncheon continues to grow, its mission remains unchanged: to surround hospitalized children with comfort, color, and compassion—one room at a time.

HOW ¡HOLA HP! SPARKS A LOVE FOR LEARNING.
ARTICLE BY DAVID MUSCARI
At Hola HP, education goes beyond textbooks and exams—it’s all about nurturing a genuine love for learning.
Recognized and respected in Park Cities educational circles, this dynamic approach merges personalized instruction with creative teaching techniques, revolutionizing students’ engagement with their studies.
Whether tackling math, science, or language arts, Hola tutors instill curiosity, build healthy confidence, and create lasting academic growth with their students. Their commitment to nurturing each student’s unique strengths makes learning an invigorating journey rather than just another dreaded chore.
Hola HP founder Katherine Herron is a third-generation Highland Park native. She attended Bradfield, MIS, and is a 2001 HPHS graduate. “I live in University Park; my children attend HPISD schools,” she says. “My husband and I met teaching at Highland Park Middle School.”
After four years in the UTeach Program at the University of Texas at Austin, Herron taught for a year in Plano, then
took a job in Highland Park teaching Spanish. It was during that time that she began coaching former students. As they transitioned from middle to high school, many requested her help as a tutor.
“I realized that many students didn’t need private one-onone help; they just wanted to feel confident going into tests.”
Herron began working with small groups in her home. “I had over 100 students coming through my doors each week … the traffic was not ideal for my neighbors!”
She opened Hola in Snider Plaza in 2015. After outgrowing multiple spaces in the shopping center, she moved into the Hilltop building in August of 2021.
“Growing up in the Park Cities, understanding the schools, teaching in the district, and developing a relationship with so many amazing educators all contribute to our success story.”
close content gaps, and extend learning into meaningful academic growth,” she says.
Hola offers pre-K classes, weekly groups to supplement classroom instruction, pop-up reviews for tests and quizzes, STAAR and AP exam preparation sessions, exam-cram reviews, ACT/SAT prep, back-to-school preparation, summer reading reviews, summer camps for elementary kids, private tutoring, and more.
“Our greatest strengths include a team of highly educated, passionate educators who have a heart for nurturing and teaching.”
– Katherine Herron, founder
Today, her small, community-focused, family-oriented tutoring company helps students find confidence and success in and out of the classroom.
“We work with students ages three through post-graduate to reinforce foundational skills,
“We regularly receive feedback that students’ ACT/SAT scores have increased, performance on standardized tests has significantly improved, and content understanding has advanced,” says Herron.
Each week, tutors plan lessons based on what students are learning in the classroom. Students review core concepts and apply their knowledge to practice problems, reinforcing their understanding of the content.
“Our greatest strengths include a team of highly educated, passionate educators who have a heart for nurturing and teaching,” she says, meeting students where they are, to foster academic success and a love for lifelong learning.
“We value the relationships we have built within this community, with students and their families,
and have watched students grow and mature over the years. Many of them started at Hola as elementary students and are now driving, leading student organizations, or heading to college.”
She says Hola knows the HPISD curriculum and understands the intricacies of the school district, which gives unique insight into how to best serve their students. “We’ve expanded beyond the district to serve students in other school districts, private schools, and even colleges.”
“We value the district’s teachers; many of our tutors have worked there, and we honor their work by reinforcing classroom learning with consistent, high-quality support. We want students to feel comfortable when they walk into Hola and confident as they leave.”
She says the goal is to “provide highly tailored instruction that aligns with classroom standards, challenges students in rigorous and meaningful ways, and provides a safe place to ask clarifying questions.”
Hola tutors create lessons that are intentionally and thoughtfully scaffolded, anticipating common questions, complicated concepts, and gaps.
“We know what motivates students to learn: engaging instruction, encouragement, connection, and visible progress.”

From tiny dancers to future stars, The Dallas Conservatory combines world-class training with joyful creativity to nurture young performers from their first steps to center stage.
In a city brimming with talent, The Dallas Conservatory stands as both a training ground for future stars and a haven where young artists begin to dream big. From toddlers twirling in their first dance class to teens preparing for Broadway stages, the Conservatory offers more than instruction; it’s a launchpad for professional careers and a sanctuary where creativity and confidence flourish
“At The Dallas Conservatory, our mission is to nurture and elevate young talent through world-class training in dance, music, theater, and the performing arts,” Associate Artistic Director Clair Culin says. “Whether a child dreams of Broadway or ballet, or simply finds joy in movement and music, we’re committed
to developing not just skilled performers, but confident, disciplined, and inspired young people.”
What sets this school apart is the unique blend of elite instruction and a genuinely supportive atmosphere. With small class sizes, partnership with parents, and faculty that includes former principal dancers and Broadway professionals, students receive top-tier training while being seen and championed as individuals. “We believe excellence and encouragement go hand-in-hand,” Culin shares. “While our expectations are high, our care for each child runs even deeper. This balance is what allows our students to thrive—not just technically, but emotionally and creatively.”
For those pursuing a serious path in the arts, the Conservatory’s pre-professional programs are nationally recognized—and the results speak volumes. “Of the 14 classical dancers whom we’ve had accepted into America’s and one of Europe’s top classical programs, nine have become professional ballet dancers,” Culin notes. “Many others are dancing in top contemporary companies across the globe and even on Broadway. Stories like theirs reflect what we’re most proud of: helping young artists discover their voice and believe in their potential.”
Even the youngest performers are welcomed into a joyful, nurturing environment. Beginning with Mommy + Me classes for toddlers, early childhood programs build motor skills, musicality, and imagination.
“Our youngest students explore movement, rhythm, and expression in a warm, welcoming environment where creativity and confidence blossom from day one,” Culin says.
Community is also at the heart of the Conservatory’s mission. Public performances, such as the beloved Rockefeller Christmas at the Majestic Theater, are open to the public and showcase over 300 students each year. “These performances not only highlight our students’ technical achievement but bring our community together to celebrate the arts,” says Culin.
For Park Cities families considering the arts, the Dallas Conservatory’s advice is simple: “Start small and follow their joy. Sometimes, seeing other children on stage is all the inspiration a child needs.”
“WE
BELIEVE EXCELLENCE AND ENCOURAGEMENT GO HANDIN-HAND. WHILE OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH, OUR CARE FOR EACH CHILD RUNS EVEN DEEPER. THIS BALANCE IS WHAT ALLOWS OUR STUDENTS TO THRIVE— NOT JUST TECHNICALLY, BUT EMOTIONALLY AND CREATIVELY.”

Crafting confidence with patients of all ages is what Dr. Diana Velicu Gardner does best, engineering smiles with purpose and precision, and reshaping lives at LVL Orthodontics.
“Our greatest strength lies in delivering high-quality, customized care to patients of all ages, from children to adults seeking complex correction or esthetic refinement,” she says.
“We combine advanced digital technology with a warm, personalized approach to create confident, lasting results.”
LVL’s state-of-the-art office offers a contemporary, welcoming environment that makes every visit comfortable and family-friendly.
The practice is built on excellence, integrity, and transformation with the aspiration to be the most trusted destination for care, one beautifully aligned smile at a time.
Unlike high-volume, multi-location practices where patients are rushed through a system, LVL offers boutique-level attention and consistency at every visit.
“We provide orthodontic solutions for the entire family, regardless of age or difficulty,” says Dr. Velicu Gardner. LVL is uniquely equipped to handle the full spectrum of orthodontics under one roof.
LVL also welcomes patients affected by different craniofacial syndromes. “We are capable of being part of a multidisciplinary team,” she says.
The practice recently introduced in-house laser treatment, such as gingivectomies, frenectomies, and soft tissue exposures, so patients don’t have to see another provider.
“With advanced technology like iTero scanning, digital X-rays, and remote monitoring, we make every visit efficient and precise,” says Dr. Velicu Gardner.
“We are in-network with many of the largest insurance providers, making exceptional care more accessible and affordable for Park Cities families.”
Outside of the office, Dr. Velicu Gardner has a unique story of her own.
She grew up as a competitive alpine skier in Romania and represented her country on national and Olympic teams.
The pressure-packed experience instilled discipline and resilience, skills she uses as a successful orthodontist. (She also speaks five languages.)
After retiring from skiing, Dr. Velicu Gardner graduated at the top of her dental school class and was named Romania’s Student of the Year in 2018. “It was a huge moment of pride,” she says.
Dr. Velicu Gardner moved to the U.S. to pursue advanced training at UCLA, where she served as chief resident and led research in collaboration with NASA, doing work that was recognized nationally and internationally.
“I was incredibly humbled to be named to Forbes Romania’s 30 Under 30 list in 2021 and receive the global TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young Persons) award in 2024.”
Beyond clinical care, she is committed to mentoring. “Whether it's sharing my journey, lecturing on orthodontic innovation, or advocating for leadership in healthcare,” she says.
She serves as Director for the Texas Association of Orthodontists and is deeply committed to helping shape the future of our profession.
Her husband, Luke Gardner, is a Highland Park native. Today, the newly married couple resides in the Park Cities.
Dr. Velicu Gardner says LVL Orthodontics’ philosophy elevates the orthodontic experience through personalized care, clinical excellence, and genuine connection.
“We believe that every patient, regardless of age or case complexity, deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported throughout their smile journey.”
The LVL mission is to build trust, confidence, and long-term relationships by combining cutting-edge technology with a warm, community-centered approach in a safe, inspirational environment.
Dr. Velicu Gardner is passionate about connecting with people and growing and creating spaces where everyone feels seen and supported.
“LVL Orthodontics is not just about straightening teeth; it's about building confidence and celebrating progress every step of the way,” she says with a smile.

Sixty percent of women 50–74 years old miss their annual mammograms. The Painless Mammogram hopes new technology will help.
ARTICLE BY KELSEY KOSH
As a field, mammography hasn’t changed much until recently, according to Dr. Matthew Reaven. “There’ve been some subtle improvements over the last half century, but for the most part, it’s the same,” says the co-owner of The Painless Mammogram on Lovers Lane. Dr. Reaven’s clinic is breaking the mold in Dallas, leveraging a new machine that uses 3D imaging to screen for breast cancer. “This technology is completely different,” he says.
Dr. Reaven, a critical care doctor, launched The Painless Mammogram in April alongside his three brothers and family friend—an E.R. doctor, an anesthesiologist, a breast radiologist, and a plastic surgeon, respectively. Dr. Richard Reaven, the breast radiologist in the group, connected with Koning, a tomography company with a dedicated breast CT that uses the same amount of radiation as a traditional compression mammogram. After a few years of research, the group decided to bring the technology—which has roughly 20 units operating in the U.S.—to Dallas.
The machine, the Vera, makes mammograms less intimidating and more accurate. “It reduces the barrier,” Dr. Reaven explains, “A lot of women don’t get their recommended mammograms because of the pain and compression and fear.” The technology captures a 360-degree image without any uncomfortable squeezing. “Because we are able to have a much higher-quality, truly three-dimensional image, we can catch cancer at earlier and more treatable stages,” Reaven says.
The imaging process takes about seven seconds, and the photos rarely produce inconclusive results. “It [can] reduce radiation exposure, because if you have a mammogram and then you get called back, you have to get [another] diagnostic mammogram, which is more radiation,” Dr. Reaven explains. This is especially true for women with implants, who traditionally must have two sets of images taken for each breast. “Our scan actually uses half of the radiation in patients who have breast implants,” Dr. Reaven says.
Dr. Reaven’s group hopes to eventually open more locations throughout DFW, but for now, they are focused on growing their clientele. “A lot of you this is getting out into the community, speaking with doctors about what we’re doing and getting them familiar with the technology,” Dr. Reaven says.
