Mercer Island in the 1st Quarter

We can’t classify markets as “buyer” or “seller” markets the way we used to. Why? The current housing shortage would make this a sellers’ market by default, but buyers have been priced out of the market due to rapid price growth in the last three years and rising interest rates. This has resulted in a larger pool of inventory than we’re used to, which makes it look more like a buyers’ market. The demand hasn’t disappeared, and in many cases it has shifted to different price points or areas, thus creating the marketcategory confusion. The recent rise in interest rates took a big bite out of a buyer’s monthly mortgage budget. As mortgage interest rates hover in the mid 6’s, many buyers have decided to wait until interest rates go down. But does it make sense to wait?

While no one has a crystal ball, my 35+ years of experience as a real estate expert tells me that waiting for the “perfect” conditions to buy or sell is likely not the best strategy, as it will keep you on the sidelines forever.

Let’s discuss how to make the current market work for you!

Mercer Island's Visionaries

GIVING BACK | LIFE + CULTURE

Mercer Island has been a hub for influential figures who have shaped industries, transformed the world, and enriched the local community.  Our story focuses on Paul Allen, Kurt Dammeier, and Brad Brotherton and their contributions to Mercer Island and beyond.

Paul Allen was a visionary in the world of technology. Allen co-founded Microsoft with childhood friend Bill Gates in 1975, which helped spark the microcomputer revolution. He had a passion for innovation and a keen eye for identifying emerging trends. Allen founded the Allen Institutes for Brain Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Cell Science, as well as numerous companies.

Through the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Allen donated millions of dollars to support education, arts, and culture. He was instrumental in the development of the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), the Living Computers: Museum + Labs, and the Allen Institute(s).

Allen was a self-taught guitarist and played in "The Underthinkers". The band released "Everywhere at Once" in 2013, which featured Allen's guitar work and songwriting. His passion for music was a significant part of his life.

Kurt Dammeier is a visionary in the world of food and a long-time resident of Mercer Island. A fourth-generation Puget Sound native, Kurt Beecher Dammeier entered the food scene with the purchase of the iconic gourmet shop, Pasta & Co. in 1999. He’s opened several food concepts under the Sugar Mountain umbrella, including Beecher's Handmade Cheese in 2003, Bennett's, Liam's, and Maximus / Minimus, where he serves as CEO and head chef of these businesses. Sugar Mountain has two lines of premium meats, Mishima Reserve, a luxury Wagyu beef brand, and Beecher's Whey Fed Pork.

Beecher's Handmade Cheese's flagship store is in the Pike Place Market with another in the Flatiron district in NYC.

With each endeavor, Dammeier's goal was to demonstrate how quality ingredients make for delicious meals without the use of industrial additives like food colorings, flavor enhancers, or preservatives.

Dammeier has always sought to effect change in eating habits. In 2007 he wrote "Pure Flavor". This passion extends to the Beecher's Foundation.

Brad Brotherton , a luxury automobile dealer, has shown dedication to the local arts and culture scene. Brotherton is the owner of the Brotherton Cadillac dealership in Renton, Washington, which has been recognized as one of the top Cadillac dealerships in the country.

Philanthropy is also an anchor to Brotherton. Along with his wife Amy, they are active supporters of the performing arts scene through the Paramount Theater. The crown jewel of their many efforts is Brotherton Cadillac’s Celebrity Steak Out. As a tribute to Brad's father and their passion for cancer research, the event was founded in 2010 to benefit the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center. The Steak Out is an annual hub for celebration. The Brotherton family’s passion runs deep. During the pandemic, they even made sure the event carried on by proclaiming the 2020 version, the Celebrity “Steak-In”. Since inception, Brotherton is pleased to say that the event has raised over $3M for the Hutch.

Beyond their Mercer Island connection, these men share traits that have propelled them to the heights of success: strong leadership, a visionary mindset, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. By applying the lessons learned to our own lives, we can honor their legacies and inspire the next generation of visionaries.

Supporting the philanthropic efforts and causes championed by these men is one way to celebrate their contributions. Emulating their values – hard work, perseverance, and innovation – can help us cultivate a better future for the community.

Grilling Season

Nothing quite beats the feeling of firing up the grill for the first time each summer. When you grill food, it is transformed by flame and smoke in magical ways that the stovetop just can’t match. A charred lemon becomes complex, offering more than just acidity. Chicken takes on richness and flavor. The sweetness of a carrot, now balanced by its newfound caramelization. These recipes highlight the fact that the grill can produce more than delicious burgers and dogs. Consider this your permission to go forth and play with new foods on the grill all summer.

DIRECTIONS

To prepare your grill, stage the charcoal in a pile on one side of the basin and light. This will create heat zones for direct and indirect cooking. Allow the charcoal to burn until covered in ash. Meanwhile, use kitchen shears to spatchcock your chicken by cutting out the backbone. Lay the bird breast side up and slightly splayed out, press firmly in the middle of the breasts to flatten.

Grilled Carrots with Charred Lemon & Tahini Sauce

serves: 4 - 6

prep time: 15 minutes

cook time: 20 minutes

total time: 35  minutes

INGREDIENTS

• 2 lbs whole carrots

• 1 seedless lemon, cut into thick slices

• 1 red chili

• 1 cup parsley

• ½ cup tahini

• 1 clove garlic

• 1 tablespoon dijon

• 1 cup water

• Salt

DIRECTIONS

Preheat your grill to medium-high. In a pot of boiling salted water, add the carrots and cook for 6 minutes. Remove and pat dry. Add your carrots, lemon slices, and chili to the grill and cook until just beginning to char on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Remove and set carrots aside. Trim the stem from the chili. To make the sauce, add the lemons and chili to a blender along with the remaining ingredients. Season with salt and blend until smooth. Drizzle over carrots and serve.

Atlantic Beach Pie Parfaits

serves: 6

prep time: 15 minutes

cook time: 10 minutes

total time: 25  minutes

INGREDIENTS

• 20 saltine crackers

• 2 tablespoons salted butter

• 2 tablespoons sugar

• 1 cup heavy cream, whipped to stiff peaks

• 6 oz lemon curd

• 16 oz Ellenos Lemon Curd

Yogurt, stirred

DIRECTIONS

To make the crumble, place the crackers into a resealable bag and smash until a coarse crumb. In a skillet over medium heat, add the butter and sugar, stirring until the butter melts and just begins to bubble, then cook for another 2 minutes. Add the cracker crumbs, stirring to coat evenly with the butter mixture. While stirring, cook for another 2 - 3 minutes, until the crumble begins to toast and smells fragrant. Transfer to a plate and let cool.

Build the parfaits by dividing the yogurt evenly between 6 parfait cups. Top with a tablespoon or two of the crumble, then add a layer of lemon curd, again dividing the curd equally. Spoon in a generous layer of whipped cream, then top with the remainder of your crumble. With any leftover whipped cream, use a plastic bag to pipe little swirls on top. Serve immediately or store refrigerated until ready to serve.

Rub the entire chicken with salt and let sit at room temperature until the grill is fully heated. Add the pecan wood to your coals, replace the grill grate, and place the chicken on the side opposite the coals where it will receive indirect heat.

Use a heatproof probe thermometer to keep track of the temperature. Cook, rotating a quarter turn every 15 minutes, until the bird reaches 165 degrees, about 2 hours.

While your bird is cooking, place all ingredients for the sauce in a food processor and blend until mostly smooth with little flecks of herbs. Season to taste before serving.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN IN THE PNW

Modernizing Yards on Mercer Island

The Pacific Northwest, known for its lush greenery and mild climate, offers a unique opportunity for homeowners to create stunning outdoor spaces including enhancements such as outdoor kitchens, water features, and fire-pits. But one thing you can’t count on is the weather, and we’ve seen considerable changes in temperature and precipitation over the last few decades. We spoke with the founder of Lifestyle Landscapes, Roger Franklin, to learn more about how to create an outdoor environment that adapts to our unwieldy weather while also protecting the natural environment.

As Mercer Island residents continue to invest in their homes, many are opting to revamp their outdoor spaces to make them more functional and aesthetically appealing. One popular approach is modernizing established yards by incorporating contemporary design elements and amenities. According to Roger, the landscape projects most popular with Mercer Island residents include modernizing established yards with outdoor kitchens, water features, and fire-pits.

OUTDOOR KITCHENS

Outdoor kitchens have become increasingly popular, as they provide a perfect space for entertaining, dining, and enjoying the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. These kitchens often feature built-in grills, pizza ovens, and ample counter space for food preparation. Additionally, they can be designed with weather-resistant materials such as stainless steel and stone, ensuring they can withstand the region's damp climate.

WATER FEATURES

Water features, such as ponds, fountains, and waterfalls, add an element of tranquility and beauty to any outdoor space. Mercer Island residents are incorporating these

features into their landscape designs to create a serene environment that complements the natural surroundings. Water features can also serve as a focal point in a yard, drawing attention and inviting exploration.

FIRE-PITS

Fire-pits have become a must-have for many homeowners, providing a cozy spot to gather with friends and family on cool evenings. Mercer Island residents are embracing this trend by adding fire-pits to their outdoor spaces, often choosing designs that incorporate natural stone or sleek, modern materials. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, fire-pits can also help extend the outdoor living season by providing warmth during the cooler months.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

Proper drainage is essential, as the region's frequent rain can cause flooding and damage to outdoor spaces. Homeowners should invest in a well-designed drainage system that directs water away from structures and prevents pooling in low-lying areas. This might include incorporating French drains, grading the landscape, or utilizing permeable paving materials.

Selecting the right hardscape materials is necessary for creating a durable and attractive outdoor space. In the Pacific Northwest, it's important to choose materials that can withstand the region's damp conditions without becoming damaged or slippery. Some options to consider include natural stone, such as flagstone or basalt, and concrete pavers, which can be treated with a sealant to prevent water damage.

We’re curious to know how you spend your time in your garden and welcome photos and messages on our Instagram page, @mercerislandcitylifestyle.

OPEN HOUSE | HOME + DESIGN

• Replace impermeable concrete slabs with pavers. "Not only are pavers more attractive, but they also allow water to absorb into the ground and prevent runoff, and better yet – they are less expensive than installing a new concrete pad." Concrete pads tend to crack and do not stand the test of time in the way that pavers do.

• When installing a fire-pit, choose propane or natural gas over wood-burning. Not only does burning wood contributes to pollution, make our clothes smell, and blow smoke in our eyes, it also is a fire hazard in our increasingly dry summers.

• Consider the timing and plan backwards. If you want to have a tricked out backyard by July, you need to consider that reputable landscaping companies are often scheduling 3-8 weeks out during the warmer months, and prior to scheduling your project they will need a few weeks to work with you to finalize a design and get permitting from your municipality.

June Pet Peeve

What is your pet’s “pet peeve”? What is the question your pet would ask, if they could? We are going to have fun with this column every month while answering some of your pet’s burning questions! The Pet Peeve of June that we are going to address is: My mommy walks me on the beach, but never lets me play and swim with the other dogs. Is it safe for me to play and swim with other dogs at the beach? Thank you, Papi.

Great Question Papi!

In general, the answer is YES, with a few words of caution. When I think of the potential hazards at the beach, we need to address both environmental concerns and dog infectious disease concerns.

Regarding the environment, let’s start with the water. Water in the PNW is in general very safe. If it is safe for us humans, it is safe for dogs. I always recommend a shower or rinse in clean tap water after a swim, this is very important after salt water. Algae blooms can be very deadly and, as a pet parent, you need to be aware of these alerts that can occur, especially as the weather warms up. Giardia, a protozoal parasite, can be present in any fresh water. Many of our adult dogs are resistant to the parasite and will not get sick from consumption. Others will get diarrhea. Giardia is a risk that is hard to avoid and there is no preventative. Thankfully it is a low risk of infection and, most often, easily treated by your veterinarian. Another disease that can be transmitted through the water is Leptospirosis, a very serious bacterial infection that can be present in

PET FRIENDLY PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
22

large bodies of water like Lake Washington or in small puddles in the yard. Though treatable, prevention is the key- be sure your dog is current on its annual Lepto vaccine. Other environmental factors include the sand and parking lot. If the sand is too hot for you to walk on with bare feet, it is likely too hot for your dog! The largest environmental concern I have is the cars in the parking lot or on the road- make sure we keep the dogs on leash when there is any potential of them getting hit!

Infectious disease concerns; what if they share their ball with another dog? Thankfully, there is not a large risk of sharing disease between dogs. The number one concern is kennel cough. Kennel cough is the term that is frequently used for infectious respiratory disease in dogs. It is caused by either a bacteria or a virus, often both. Dogs can “share” just like we can with the common cold. The primary way to protect your dog is to keep them well vaccinated against the infectious agents that cause kennel cough. Another disease, that they potentially could share would be parvo. Parvo is a viral disease that is most common in puppies. It is very deadly and it is critical to have your dog fully protected before it is out sharing tennis balls with others!

Overall, the benefits of having fun with your dog at the beach, the social experience for your four-legged friend, and the importance of exercise far out ways the potential risk. Having your dog fully vaccinated, placing them on a parasite prevention program and the use of good old common sense will dramatically decrease the risk of bad outcomes from the experience. Be sure to follow your instincts: if the water is dangerous for you to go in, think twice about it for your dog; if there is an aggressive dog present, think twice about going off leash; if your dog does not mind well, think twice before letting them run loose with cars around. We are blessed with wonderful water opportunities throughout the Puget Sound and especially on Mercer Island; they are that better when enjoyed with our “best friend”.

I am happy to address any particular questions on this matter, or any other pet peeves you have by contacting me at paws@caraveterinary. com. Please submit your pet peeve questions to address in future editions of this magazine to michael.stein@citylifestyle.com

Manhattan to Mercer Island

In 17th century Paris, Catherine de Vivonne, marquise de Rambouillet, known as Madame de Rambouillet, established the first literary salon, creating a space where intellect and creativity could flourish. Her legacy continued centuries later when a literary salon called "Beckett's" sprang to life in the West Village of Manhattan about a year ago.

As one might imagine, Beckett's quickly became a hub for young writers, critics, artists, theater actors, and filmmakers. A modern-day Manhattan version of the 17th-century marvel that began in Paris.

Unfortunately, Beckett's had its final gathering on March 18, 2023, and many artisans are hard at work to revive the community in the fertile grounds of the island of Manhattan.

Almost as if they were cued by the last days of Beckett's, three women – Nikki Baidwan, Sharon Perez, and Suzanne Zahr – came together with a shared vision in Mercer Island. They wanted to create a sanctuary for Gen X women, a place where they could rest, renew, and shine. Thus, Salon NUR was born, a literary salon dedicated to fostering connections, nurturing growth, and providing a sense of community for women at a crucial phase in their lives.

All three founders bring their unique strengths to the table. Nikki, who started a literary salon called "ThinkFiends" a decade earlier, feels the need to revive the concept. She has a passion for thoughtful journalism and creating spaces where people can discuss important topics. Sharon, with her background in marketing and promotion, helps shape the message

"Having a laugh"

INSPIRED BY | LIFE + CULTURE
24

and reach the right audience. Suzanne, an artistic entrepreneur, contributes her creative spirit to the mix.

Together, they choose the name NUR, which means "light" in several languages, symbolizing enlightenment, and the joy of being. Rooted in Middle Eastern and Indian cultures, NUR also signifies the beginning of nurture, nourishment, and the light within every individual. The founders aim to create an environment where women can rediscover their inner light, dimmed by the challenges and transitions they face in life.

Focusing on Gen X women, Salon NUR caters to those experiencing various transitions, such as career changes, family shifts, spousal loss, retirement, and dealing with elderly parents. These women have often spent years as caretakers, volunteers, and givers, putting their own needs on the back burner. Salon NUR offers them a space to rekindle their light and reconsider how to spend the next chapters of their lives.

The salon is designed to be an intimate, curated experience. Each gathering centers around an article for intellectual discussion, curated creativity, and "prompts" that encourage self-reflection.

The founders spend weeks deliberating on each aspect of the event, from the venue to the prompts, ensuring that everything is carefully chosen to create a unique and enriching experience.

Membership is selective, inviting only those who share the same mindset and are willing to engage authentically. The salon is not a professional networking group; it is a community where people can grow and thrive.

The women who attend the salon leave feeling lighter, more connected, and rejuvenated. Salon NUR succeeds in nurturing their minds, spirits, and bodies, helping them find meaning in their lives and rekindling the light that has been dimmed for so long.

In a world that often moves too fast, Salon NUR is a sanctuary, a place of community, and a reminder of the power of light and connection.

Salon NUR becomes a beacon of light on Mercer Island, where women can find solace, support, and inspiration. The founders, with their complementary skills, have created something they crave: a space where women can rediscover who they are and who they want to be.

Jeanette and Lyz Macias Refreshing!

Seeking Cultura

Jeanette and Lyz Macias embarked on a journey to improve their health and the health of others. The couple experienced numerous health issues, particularly Jeanette, who struggled with gut health and frequently fell sick. They realized that a change in their diets and nutrition was long overdue.

Motivated to make a difference, Jeanette and Lyz began researching and incorporating fermented foods into their diets. They discovered the numerous benefits of a healthy gut, including a stronger immune system. This led them to the world of kombucha.

However, they were disappointed to find that many store-bought kombucha brands contained added sugars and preservatives. Frustrated by the lack of authentic kombucha options, they decided to make their own.

Thus, Seeking Kombucha was born! The couple made it their mission to create all-natural kombucha using locally sourced ingredients and no added preservatives. They crafted a variety of fermented drinks, flavored only with whole foods and herbs.

A STORY OF RESILIENCE AND COMMUNITY
27 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/MERCERISLAND JUNE 2023

Their big break came when the South Lake Union Saturday market invited them to showcase their products. However, just as they secured a space for their business, the pandemic struck, forcing a complete shutdown.

Jeanette and Lyz were determined not to let the pandemic hold them back. They understood the struggles faced by small businesses and decided to offer their space to host community events. This initiative grew rapidly, with the couple providing resources and support to other businesses through networking and collaboration.

Realizing the importance of building connections and understanding the people behind each business, Jeanette and Lyz continued hosting events. Attendees praised their efforts, encouraging them to do more.

Inspired by their success, the couple decided to create a street fair that celebrated their Mexican and Filipino heritage. The event showcased traditional dances, music, and vendors from both cultures, highlighting the similarities and diversity that make Seattle unique.

The couple's vision expanded even further, as they dreamed of creating an event that celebrated the world's diverse cultures. The Seeking Cultura event was born.

Seeking Cultura is a summer street community event, where cultural diversity is highlighted through small businesses, community organizations, food, live music, visual art exhibits, hands-on art activities for children, and building connections to last a lifetime.

"We value community, diversity, and equality, and believe that through cross-cultural exchange

we can improve community relations and promote economic development." -

They believe that every small business participating in our events has a story to tell, and Seeking Cultura  encourages attendees to learn more about how and why cultural identities shape their businesses.

Seeking Cultura has come a long way since its inception a year ago and has expanded, featuring the beauty and traditions of South America, Africa, Europe, North America, and Asia.

Seeking Kombucha has too! The couple continues to seek new flavors and clean ingredients for their products. Their journey has taken them from the sun and palm trees of their origins to the global stage, creating a sense of unity in a world that often feels divided.

With their hearts set on making a difference, Jeanette and Lyz now plan to host events in neighborhoods that have been adversely affected by the pandemic. Their next venture is Georgetown, where they hope to bring life and positivity back to the community.

In a world where connection and understanding are more important than ever, Jeanette and Lyz's story serves as a reminder that resilience, innovation, and a strong sense of community can help us overcome even the most challenging of times.

A Perfect Home

In picturesque Mercer Island, Washington, Peter Jacobs feels right at home. As an avid cyclist, skier, and outdoor enthusiast, Peter's love for the Pacific Northwest runs deep. He fell in love with the lifestyle as a Midwest transplant working for the Boeing Company. In time, his passion for the region leads him to a career in financial services, where he uses his talents to help clients invest in the future. Mercer Island, with its beauty and charm, plays a significant role in Peter's story as he finds success and happiness in his work and personal life.

PETER

THE ROAD TO THE TSCHETTER GROUP AND MERCER ISLAND

Peter Jacobs, CFA® and CFP®, currently serves as the Senior Portfolio Manager of the Tschetter Group, a boutique Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm that shares his values and commitment to long-term success. His journey to the Tschetter Group is a story filled with serendipity, friendship, and a desire to serve clients with the integrity they all deserve.

Peter's path to the Tschetter Group began in 1994 when he first met Dick Tschetter, now

Chairman and Founder of the Group that bears his name. The two formed a close bond, which was further strengthened when Peter worked with Dustin Brumbaugh from 2000 to 2010. Dustin is now the Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Investment Officer of the Tschetter Group. Over time, Peter has found the financial services industry to be a tightknit community, with professionals often branching out to form new companies or join established teams. What makes Peter’s story special is how close-knit his inner circle remained over decades!

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with an aerospace engineering degree and working in his early career on classified programs for Boeing, Peter decided to go back to school to get his MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. Shortly thereafter, he combined his experience from Boeing with his newfound finance credentials and joined the equity research department of Seattlebased Ragen MacKenzie in 1994 as a stock analyst covering aerospace and manufacturing companies. He quickly rose through the ranks, and shortly after Wells Fargo’s acquisition of Ragen MacKenzie in 1999, Peter became Deputy Director of Research and then Director of Research in 2003.  He held that position until 2010 when Wells Fargo decided to shut down the Ragen MacKenzie brand. Peter cherished his time at Ragen MacKenzie and was blessed with wonderful mentors that taught him that good stock selection requires solid fundamental research, paying close attention to valuation, thinking differently than main-stream investors, and having a long-term time horizon. These remain the foundation of how he approaches investing to this day.

As Peter notes, the financial services industry seems to continually evolve over time, but it is also a tight-knit community. Over the ensuing years, Peter supported many financial advisors, most former colleagues, with individual stock selection

and overall portfolio strategy to implement for their clients, but he never joined any of their practices directly.  Then in 2017, Peter joined the Stifel RMG Group as their Chief Investment Strategist, where many former Ragen Mackenze advisors had eventually moved, applying the same stock selection process he honed early in his career.

Over the years, he remained in good touch with Dustin and Dick, admiring and respecting their progress building the Tschetter Group as an independent Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm and the extraordinary service they offer their clients.

“Successful investing isn’t easy, but it also shouldn’t be complicated. We take a commonsense approach to investing for clients." - Tschetter

Group Credo

Peter had long desired to join an advisory team directly so when the Tschetter Group was searching for a dedicated portfolio manager and Peter got the call from Dustin, he seized this special opportunity in August of 2022.

Joining the Tschetter Group allows Peter to work with a growing team that shares his values, provides exceptional services, and serves clients who are closely aligned with their mission. Proclaiming this to be his last stop, Peter sees this as a great alignment at the perfect time for all involved.

PETER'S INVESTING PHILOSOPHY

Peter's investing philosophy is centered around the idea of doing your homework and understanding what you own and why you own it. He emphasizes the importance of having a long-term time horizon and not getting anxious or excited over short-term fluctuations in the market.

When referring to maintaining a longer-term time horizon, Peter respects and knows that this is easier said than done.

“One of the misnomers is a lot of people say they are long-term investors, but it lasts only as long as the portfolio is going up. When things aren’t going

"Historically, two key pillars to building financial wealth have been to own good businesses and real estate, taking care to pay a fair price for each along the way. We believe the same holds true today.”

exactly as planned, knowing the businesses you own allows one to sleep at night and let time do what it does best: growing a portfolio over time.”

This long-term perspective allows him to stay focused on the fundamentals of the businesses he invests in, evaluating their potential for success in the long run rather than getting caught up in the short-term noise of the news cycle.

Peter believes that by focusing on the long-term prospects of businesses, investors can make better

decisions and avoid getting “twisted around,” selling when they should be buying, or vice versa. His process has been honed over time, allowing him to maintain a disciplined approach to investing that has served him well throughout his career.

LIFE ON MERCER ISLAND: A PERFECT HOME FOR PETER

Mercer Island became home for Peter in 2002 and he immediately fell in love with the area. The island’s demographics, easy access to Bellevue and Seattle, and

strong school districts were all factors that contributed to his decision. The sense of community, friendships his daughters formed, and involvement in local organizations, like the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church and the Mercerwood Shore Club, made, and continue to make, the island the perfect place to call home.

As a resident of Mercer Island, Peter enjoys the island's natural beauty and recreational opportunities. He loves the running routes and the Mercer Island Loop for cycling, which he often supplements with rides around Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish, clocking in 30-40 miles per ride during the summer. The waterfront parks and landings, along with the facilities at the Mercerwood Shore Club, provide Peter and his family with countless opportunities to connect with nature, neighbors, and long-time friends.

In addition to his love for skiing, hiking, boating, and traveling, Peter most enjoys doing those things with his daughters; the oldest who is now a sophomore at Gonzaga University, and the youngest who is a junior at Mercer Island High School. He cherishes the memories they created together, both on and off Mercer Island, and he's grateful for the friendships he's

made with his neighbors and the strong friendships he still has with his old Boeing buddies some thirty years after he left the Company to attend graduate school.

THE PERFECT FIT: PETER, THE TSCHETTER GROUP, AND MERCER ISLAND

Peter Jacobs' story is one of passion, dedication, and a desire to serve clients with integrity. From his early days at Boeing to his current role at the Tschetter Group, Peter's journey is shaped by the friendships he makes, the opportunities he seizes, and the idyllic setting of Mercer Island. For Peter, Mercer Island and the Tschetter Group are the perfect fit, and together, they continue to build a brighter future for their clients and the Pacific Northwest.

For Mercer Island, Peter is a community champion and ambassador. He remains steadfast on experience, what works, and is incredibly long haul oriented. When asked why someone should move to Mercer Island today, Peter proudly exclaims that the reasons haven’t changed. Proximity to Seattle and Bellevue, a worldclass school system, activities to suit all comers, and neighbors you can grow with for the duration of your lifetime.

Find a local trail you haven’t tried before, load up the bikes and set out for a day of riding. Finish off the day with a nice meal out after all your hard work.

GO BIRD WATCHING

Lay out a blanket in your backyard and grab your binoculars for a peaceful, nature-filled day. Make a list of how many different kinds of birds you see and guess if you can identify them.
