”Style” is a subjective term, isn’t it? It could mean two completely different things depending on who you ask. When designing your home, we believe style should embody all qualities forward-thinking, warmth, efficiency, and respect of its surroundings.
Ultimately, though, style should embody YOU, our homeowner. Follow us @drippingbuilder, and tell us what style means to you. We look forward to making that come to life.

Welcoming the Flavors of Fall
As the days get shorter and the evenings turn crisp, our kitchens fill with the comforting scents of fall. The aroma of a roast cooking in the crockpot tempts our taste buds all day long. A favorite candle, with hints of apple, cinnamon and clove, makes our homes feel cozy and reminds us that the holiday season is approaching.
This month, our pages are graced with mouthwatering dishes and beverages crafted from the freshest local ingredients of the season. I’ve been consistently amazed by the depth of talent in our town, and this month was no different on the culinary front. Though I’ve never considered myself a food aficionado or a wine connoisseur, my interactions with many of this month’s stories have been profoundly educational and I know you will feel the same. From meal prep, the healing power of food, and insights from sommeliers to flame-grilled meats, refreshing fall salads, savory desserts, and pastries, our contributors generously share their expertise. Each page is guaranteed to envelop both your home and your taste buds with a sense of coziness and satisfaction.
We invite you to embrace the change of season. Experiment with new ingredients, try a new-to-you restaurant, create memories with loved ones over shared meals, and let the comfort of fall cuisine warm your heart. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a novice in the kitchen, there’s something in Dripping Springs to delight your palate and inspire your culinary adventures.
Enjoy my friends,

Alchemy Juice Is Making the World a Healthier Place One Juice at a Time
Carly Brown was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2019. Instead of letting it knock her down, Carly took matters into her own hands and dived into the natural world for answers. This journey didn’t just change her health—it flipped her whole outlook on wellness upside down.
Carly had a gut feeling that turning to nature could help her heal from the inside out. She uncovered the healing potential of plants when she discovered coldpressed juice. A simple yet powerful way to give her body what it needed the most.
And that’s how Alchemy Juice was born. Carly wasn’t going to keep this newfound wisdom to herself. She wanted the whole community to get in on the healing benefits.
Fast-forward three years from Carly’s diagnosis, and the change is remarkable. She beat the illness and even brought a baby boy into the world. Her mind is clearer than ever, she has more energy, and her skin has a healthy glow.
Carly is living proof that cold-pressed juice should be part of a daily self-care routine. She’s tailored each juice to meet different health needs. Green juice for a boost, beet juice to detox, celery juice for digestion, turmeric juice to fight inflammation, and carrot juice to ramp up the immune system. No matter if you’re fighting a long-term battle, want to boost your immune system, or just want to feel better, Alchemy Juice offers it all and does so by prioritizing organic, locally sourced produce.
Carly is convinced that each person has the power to change things up, starting with the choices they make for their health. “These aren’t your regular old juices,” says Carly. “They’re like shots of health for your body, mind and soul.”
Alchemy Juices are available for purchase in their Dripping Springs and Austin cafes or by subscription delivery service nationwide.
PHOTOGRAPHY BY KRISTEN HAFNER ARTICLE BY CHRISTINA THOMPSONMaintaining a healthy lifestyle requires a multifaceted approach. Living your healthiest life involves the crucial role of what you put into your body. Chiropractic, which focuses on the body’s natural ability to heal itself, recognizes the profound impact healthy food and drink choices have on overall well-being.
Proper hydration significantly impacts joint health (and literally every process in the body). Water is essential for maintaining the cushioning and lubrication of joints, facilitating the smooth movement of bones, and preventing degenerative changes everywhere in the body. Staying adequately hydrated prevents injuries, increases cognitive function, and takes stress off your nervous system. Herbal teas and infused water are great alternatives without the added sugars in most commercial drinks. Consuming electrolytes, as well as avoiding or limiting the intake of dehydrating elements such as alcohol, unnecessary medications, etc. will help you stay hydrated. Surprisingly, coffee and tea have a net hydrating effect if you don’t add sugar.
True health lies in understanding the interconnectedness of all the body’s systems. The gut-spine connection is a prime example of this. Digestive function strongly influences spinal health. If your digestion is compromised, so goes every other system in your body. Nutrient-positive foods provide the essential vitamins and minerals needed for maintaining strong bones and supporting the spine’s structural integrity. While supplements can support specific gaps or conditions, eating and drinking consciously is the way to feeling and “being” your best.
Chronic inflammation is increasingly recognized as a contributor to disease. Hydrating properly and a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods reduces chronic inflammation. Most people accomplish this by reducing processed foods and increasing protein and healthy fats. Mindful eating practices (such as chewing each bite thoroughly before swallowing) aid digestion and reduce stress-related digestive issues. Avoiding or eliminating the consumption of inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, and sugar brings immediate and significant benefits such as pain reduction and weight loss. Try it for two weeks to experience change in your body!
ARTICLE BY DR. JON EBERLEEating and drinking healthy doesn’t have to be boring. It may take some effort initially, but conscious consumption eventually adds more variety and excitement to mealtime. We often underestimate how physical health impacts mental health and well-being, but in reality, the mind and body are integrated. Making positive changes to what you consume will improve every aspect of your life. There’s no better time to start making those changes than now!

Chef Marissa Fisk’s Perfectly Balanced
Arugula Salad Recipe
Fall in love with this crisp salad. It has all the cozy vibes of the season. Paired with a great sauvignon blanc or buttery chardonnay. I like to serve this for lunch with crunchy sourdough toast or a lovely side for dinner. It’s light and balanced, creating the perfect fall salad. Eat with joy and cook with love.
Serves 4 to 6 portions.
INGREDIENTS:
• 4 cups organic wild arugula
• 4 tablespoons pomegranate seeds
• 6 to 7 small slices of imported, Spanish manchego cheese, cut into angular strips
• ½ shallot, thinly sliced
• 1 large organic Granny Smith apple, sliced with skin on for color
• 2 tablespoons local candied pecans
DRESSING:
• ½ cup olive oil
• 1/3 cup organic apple cider vinegar
• 2 tablespoons pomegranate juice
• ½ teaspoon sea salt
• 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
• 1 tablespoon local raw honey
PROCESS:
In a large salad bowl, place arugula. Next, place dressing ingredients in a glass mason jar. Shake dressing and set aside. Please note, you can make the dressing ahead of time. Toss dressing over arugula. You can start with half of the dressing and see how much you like on the salad. Next, layer the ingredients listed above over the arugula.

Abby Jane Bakeshop is easy to miss. A small white sign with blue lettering points the way to a destination unlike any other in Texas.
“We like that we’re down a dirt path, set back out of the way. It’s quiet and chiller, just like my vibe,” laughs owner Abby Love.
The bakery is connected to Barton Springs Mill. The one-of-a-kind operation works with farmers across the state to bring authentic heritage grains and corn back to Texans. The mill’s partners grow organic crops using the same strains of seeds planted here in the early 1900s.
Barton Springs Mill provides the seed and then processes the bounty using a stone mill to create unparalleled flours, different from anything you’ve ever tasted. That is, unless you remember eating before 1970 when industrial grain operations took over.
“This seed style creates flavor and nutrition. We’re a human part of what’s become a very mechanized process,” Abby says. “Our shop is meant to be a showcase for the mill.”
The work starts early as bakers arrive for their shifts at 5:00 a.m.
The pastry team gets started 90 minutes later. “It’s a very tightly choreographed three hours before we open,” says Abby. The bakeshop employs up to a dozen people seasonally, and they work with quiet precision.
Abby worked in fine dining in Austin where she met James A. Brown, who opened the mill and invited her and her husband, Lawrence Collins, to create and highlight these native grains.
The shop is only open four days a week, but on a recent Friday morning, every member of the staff is intensely working in constant motion.
Soon, it’s 8:00 a.m. The door swings open and already a fast-moving line has formed. Locals greet the staff like family with hellos and hugs.
“Having regular customers is the dream. That’s everything,” says Abby. “We also do a lot of waving at strangers’ babies and smiling.”
While the front-of-house employees plate cinnamon rolls and pour coffee, the bakers behind them in the open kitchen never stop, focused on pumping out baguettes and other artisan loaves. CONTINUED
This morning, the display case features scones, cookies, croissants, muffins and slices of cake. Eagle-eyed guests also spy the afternoon’s savory offerings: tostadas built upon hand-pressed heirloom corn tortillas (made from masa ground in-house), several varieties of quiches and focaccia-style grandma pizza slices piled with fresh toppings.
“We work with lots of local veggie farmers, so we’re always looking at ways to feature that produce,” Abby proudly explains.
The bakery team is mission driven and determined to produce quality goods while doing good. Each month, the shop offers a special to raise money for a different local charity. Abby and her team also make sure that nothing goes to waste while helping those in need. They proudly support the Dripping Springs Helping Hands Food Bank. “We wrap and freeze every loaf we don’t sell. They take them all,” she says. “They do so much good work for people that are food insecure in our area.”
Outside of the bakeshop, you can find their products at several local restaurants and wineries. “Summer Revival has been such an awesome partner. They really understand what we’re doing,” Abby says. “There’s nothing artificial. We’re thankful that we’ve hit a chord with the community.”

Established Local Destination
Adds Elevated Food

The oldest brewery in Dripping Springs, Twisted X Brewing Company has long been a fixture in the local beer scene. Known for its bestselling McConauhaze Hazy IPA, the brewery offers a variety of small-batch beers in stores and inside its DS tasting room.
Long a destination for beer drinkers, Twisted X is rolling out a new food program to make the scenic grounds of the brewery a family destination as well.
Max Frisbie designed the menu and food operation. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, the chef worked at some of Austin’s best restaurants as a part of MML Hospitality.
“It’s really exciting to be able to fill in the gaps in Dripping Springs dining and create a full-spectrum family experience,” he says.
The new food trailer features casual window service with elevated bar food, drinking snacks, and family-friendly options like chicken sandwiches highlighting fresh ingredients and local products.
Max is most excited about the signature smash burger featuring meat from nearby Brenner Cattle Company.
“It’s great to support local people, and it’s also some of the best beef I’ve ever had in my life. I can’t wait to share that with the community,” he says. “I have a soft spot for the Texas Hill Country. I’m an avid outdoorsman. Dripping Springs has a very special spot in my heart as people gather around these beautiful places here.”
This fall, the brewery is taking an international approach for a couple of small-batch brews. The Curry On (My Wayward Saison) features a botanical blend of ginger, lemon peel, turmeric, coriander and white peppercorn.
The Poolmaster Lemongrass Pilsner is a zesty and refreshing light lager perfect for game day.
Just like the tasting room, the food operation will be open seven days a week. Max also plans to offer a weekly rotating dinner special. “Come grab a beer, then take dinner home to the family.”
Elevate your game day gatherings with a captivating spread of savory meats, artisanal cheeses, fresh fruits and delectable accompaniments. Create a masterpiece that’s as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate, a winning play for any game day celebration.

Tamra and Travis Tindol have perfected the recipe for creating delicious dining destinations in unique spaces. The native Texans, owners of beloved Hays City Store & Ice House in Driftwood, launched their second eatery, Taste on Main in Buda, in February within a 100-year-old building that once served as the city’s post office.
The new steak and seafood restaurant is a departure from Hays City Store’s rustic style and comfort food. “We wanted to fill that void of steakhouse and seafood, but not the stuffy old style,” says Travis, of Taste on Main, which features a raw bar including East Coast oysters, tuna tostadas and crab fingers. “We want people to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays here, but come as you are,” he says.
The vibe at Taste is comfortable, fresh and cowboy chic. Historic brick walls, leather seating and gingham-patterned flooring are complemented by a mix of vintage mirrors, landscapes by local artist Gena Destri, and a framed print of actor Sam Elliott, for whom one of their many craft cocktails is named.
One of her favorite dishes at Taste is the blackened redfish with heirloom tomato vinaigrette, ginger scallion rice and candied lemon zest. Travis says they intentionally offer a lot of shareables, including crab guacamole and crispy Brussels sprouts, for patrons to try a bit of everything. The accompanying bar menu features craft cocktails, a well-balanced wine list, craft draft and bottled beers, plus a curated collection of bourbons.
Taste on Main and Hays City Store are Upping the Hill Country Dining Experience
Diners can enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner in any of Taste’s three dining/bar areas, including The Treehouse, an outdoor deck built around multiple, towering oaks.
Only a 15-minute drive, but a world away from Taste on Main, is the duo’s first restaurant—the iconic Hays City Store & Ice House in Driftwood, where the couple has settled. Both from small Texas towns, the two met in fourth grade, dated in high school, broke up, and got married 25 years later!
In 2015, Tamra and Travis bought the gas station, convenience mart and cafe and chose to keep the name, as it had a healthy, local following. The couple, who’d been in the restaurant business for decades, were still working other jobs before opening Hays that year. “It was like that [Bon Jovi] song ‘Livin’ on a Prayer,’” Tamra jokes, of the long hours and challenges they faced. “I don’t think we had a day off for three years.”
The two transformed the business into a full-service restaurant and bar featuring scratch-made, Texas comfort food, craft cocktails, and local beers, spirits and wine. Their hard work paid off, and they expanded by adding the Ice House in 2017, which includes more seating, 52 taps, nine TVs and a woodfire pizza oven producing almost a dozen combinations, all crafted with house-made dough and tomato sauce.
An outdoor stage was added to the beer garden, where patrons can hear live music several times a week while enjoying a meal. Tamra’s favorites include the grilled salmon with Meyer lemon butter and truck stop enchiladas, two corn tortillas stuffed with spicy ground beef, topped with chili con carne, cheddar cheese, charro beans and a side of Tejas rice.
“I also love our pizzas, and the Sonora burger,” she says. Topped with guacamole and chipotle aioli and served on a toasted bun, the Sonora burger is formed in house, using beef ground to their specific standards by their purveyor, like all their burgers.
And, while both restaurants offer distinctly different cuisine and ambiance, they’re products of the same passion and commitment to service by the Tindols and their staff, who they refer to as “our kids.” “We feel blessed,” Travis says.

Have you ever wondered who that well-dressed person is at fancy restaurants, swirling wine and talking about tannins and terroir? Meet the sommelier—the ultimate wine guide for your dining experience. Think of them as your personal flavor matchmaker, pairing the perfect wine with your meal and ensuring your dinner goes from good to unforgettable. Initially, the word sommelier had nothing to do with sophistication; it comes from an Old French term, which translates as “beast of burden,” for a guy responsible for tasting the king’s food, including booze. Over time, it’s become a profession for folks who know their wine. They’re trained to serve wine and tell its story—where it comes from, what makes it unique, and why it’s the ideal choice for beef bourguignon or vegan risotto. If we’re talking about top-tier sommeliers, Giuseppe Paternoster is the name you should know. Born in a wine-loving Italian town, this guy took his passion to the next level. Inspired by the love his grandfather, who was a WWII veteran, had for wine, he became a Silver-Pin Sommelier. He schooled himself in the art of wine and worked under renowned sommeliers, soaking up their wisdom like a fine Bordeaux soaking up the sun.Today, Giuseppe is the go-to guy for your wine-tasting experience. What sets him apart?
He believes each bottle of wine tells a story—a blend of the land it comes from, the weather of that year, and the people who made it. With Giuseppe, wine tasting isn’t just “sip and see.” It’s an experience—a tour of the senses he carefully curates to complement your meal and enrich your evening. In honor of his grandfather, Giuseppe is hosting a charity event called “Gourmet of Generosity” this November in Driftwood, TX. The event aims to benefit veterans, so watch for details—you won't want to miss it.
So, hire a sommelier the next time you want a full-experience dinner. And if it’s Giuseppe, you’re in for a treat—expect an evening that’s not just tasty but truly memorable.

Before Sarah Saxon was a facial plastic surgeon, she was an artist. Having had formal art classes starting at the young age of 7, she knew her talents and aptitude for portrait drawing would one day be incorporated into her professional life in some way. A native of Carthage, Texas, Dr. Saxon went on to Baylor University with a particular interest in transforming her lifelong fascination into surgical expertise. After graduating from Baylor, she spent over a decade in the most rigorous training in facial plastic surgery which included 4 years of medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 5 years of residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at University of New Mexico, and additional fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Boston University under the mentorship of world renowned surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel.
In addition, she mastered the nuances of reconstruction of congenital ear anomalies (microtia) with the world expert in the procedure, Dr. Satoru Nagata in Japan. Dr. Saxon then joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas where she taught residents and offered the full spectrum of both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. In 2016, she transitioned into private practice by opening Saxon MD Facial Plastic Surgery in DT Austin, focusing on cosmetic procedures of the face and offering a medspa with injectables and various skin treatments. Several years ago, Dr. Saxon fell in love with Dripping Springs. After moving to the area and seeing a need for her services, Dr. Saxon made it her goal to move her practice to Dripping Springs. We’re thrilled to announce that Saxon MD Facial Plastic Surgery will open in The Offices at Sawyer Ranch, at the corner of 290 and Sawyer Ranch Rd, in January 2024.

The Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival returns for its third and final year at the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead. Each Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 23 to Oct. 29, the family celebration will feature over 50 fallinspired games, activities and attractions from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 and admission is free for children 3 and under as well as seniors (65+). Parking for the event is also free. Pre-sale tickets are available, and walk-up tickets are limited.
The Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival was created in 2021 after its founders discovered the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead was in serious disrepair.
“Through the festival’s fundraising, we’ve been able to collectively donate nearly $300,000 to the Pound House and our local community,” said Christopher Durst, Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival co-founder and producer. “The Dr. Pound Farmstead and Museum is finally reopening to the public after five years. We welcome all of Central Texas to join us in celebrating,” said Gretchen Bray, Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival co-founder and production coordinator.
There will be headlining performances by Henry Invisible and other live music artists, and an incredible selection of seasonal foods and beverages. Attractions and activities for all ages, ranging from $3 to $15, include face painting, pumpkin painting, barrel rides, an exotic petting zoo and more.
The festival will feature products from local Central Texas vendors, a drinkery hosted by Solaro Estate Winery and Fitzhugh Brewing, and a boutique cafe by Afuga Coffee. The Pumpkin Patch will showcase over 30 unique and colorful species of gourds with an abundance of photo opportunities.
Housing developments around Founders Park will consume much of the festival’s current parking when completed in 2024. The historic farmstead is now in jeopardy of losing annual funding.
“It’s difficult to comprehend this is our last year at the Pound House,” said Will Loconto, Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival co-founder and partner. “We are the epitome of what a community event should be. That’s worth preserving.” Stay tuned for details on the festival’s new location.
ARTICLE BY COURTNEY BOWEN PHOTOGRAPHY BY DRIPPING SPRINGS PUMPKIN FESTIVALWine, a beverage that has captivated hearts and palates for centuries, holds within it a world of stories, flavors and experiences. For sommelier Sisi Berry, wine is more than just a drink; it’s a journey of discovery and connection. With a background as diverse and vibrant as the wines she curates, Sisi shares her remarkable transformation from pre-med student to musician and accomplished sommelier, and how she channels her passion and creativity at Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club.
CONTINUED >
Born in New Orleans to a Venezuelan mother and Texan father, Sisi and her five siblings first came to Texas when her military family was stationed in San Antonio. Although she started in pre-med studies at Texas A&M University, her true calling led her down a different path. As her passion for helping people achieve their health goals intertwined with her interest in viticulture, she immersed herself in the science of wine, aiming to debunk its misconceptions.
After completing her science studies at A&M, Sisi’s thirst for exploring wine led her to Spain, where she refined her skills as a sommelier while working in vineyards. Meanwhile her love of music and songwriting remained a constant throughout her life. Sisi played guitar and wrote songs as a therapeutic outlet. “It has always been a way to help me digest my life,” says Sisi. She played guitar in her church, but it wasn’t until college that she first began singing and sharing her own songs.
Her sister’s invitation brought her from Mallorca to Austin, where she delved into both the wine and music scenes. She joined a band playing rock ’n’ roll and soul music, meanwhile working with influential figures like Rae Wilson of Wine for the People, overseeing wine production, managing the company’s wine club, and curating restaurant wine lists. She also engaged in wine distribution with Pioneer, offered independent wine list consulting across the city, owned a business providing private sommelier classes and wine education events with paired chef-prepared courses. Most recently, she was the wine director at Rancho Pillow.
At Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club, Sisi’s journey reached a new destination. Drawn by Executive Chef Jim Tripi’s vision and the allure of shaping a developing property, she embraced her role as wine director.
Her philosophy revolves around creating relationships, shaping experiences, and making wine accessible to all. At the club, Sisi hosts weekly wine tasting happy hours, curates wine dinners in collaboration with the culinary team, and orchestrates events like the annual Smokin’ Barrels festival, celebrating local cuisine and Texas wines.
As a wine director, Sisi expertly crafts wine lists that harmonize with the club’s diverse cuisines and atmospheres. Her approach focuses on mood pairing and inviting members into the tasting experience. She prioritizes personal palate preferences and flavor balance over ratings and prices.
Sisi’s journey through the wine world showcases curiosity, passion and perseverance. With her diverse background, she enriches Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club, providing an environment for members to explore, savor and connect with wines that resonate with them. Her dedication to creating memorable wine moments and opening people’s minds and hearts to trying new things makes her a true wine world ambassador.
One thing Sisi loves about working at Driftwood is that she doesn’t have to choose between her passion for wine or her love of music. “The leadership is open to all parts of you as a person. They’ve nurtured that creative side of me so that I haven’t had to compartmentalize. I feel so welcomed here.”
Sisi is now the lead singer and guitarist of her own band, Sisi . Sisi will perform at Austin City Limits October 15 and release her self-titled album in early November.

Normally when people think of meal prep, they think of preparing 21 meals for a week and individually packaging them. What we do instead is prep ingredients that we can later turn into a meal. For example, I can easily cook chicken and season it with just salt. That one ingredient can turn it into a variety of meals: tacos one night, a salad for lunch, or served on a bun with barbecue sauce another night.
As a parent, it sometimes feels like we have chores to do that interfere with quality family time. I prefer to include my kids with meal prep. It may take a little longer when you’re cooking with littles…but you get to spend quality time with them while teaching them a valuable life skill. It’s also worth noting that kids are more likely to actually eat the dish being served when they have a hand in preparing it.
Many folks struggle with feeling bored with food…variety is the spice of life, after all! What we don’t understand is that most people naturally gravitate towards the same 6 to 8 foods for a whopping 80% of their overall diet! Build your plate around these staple foods, and create variety by adding in new sides, spices or sauces. This makes your meal prep simple AND gives enough variety to keep the family from getting bored.
Creating a whiskey room that exudes sophistication and luxury involves careful design. Different from the rest of your home, it boasts moody walls and warm, unique lighting, offering comfort in lavish seating. Choose a room with suitable dimensions and lighting, ensuring it’s dim enough for mood but bright enough for reading and socializing.
For a cozy, intimate atmosphere, opt for rich colors like Sherwin-Williams French Roast, Tricorn Black, Sea Serpent, Expressive Plum, and Pewter Green, paired with stately furniture. Add depth and character with textured wallpaper, exposed brick, or wood paneling, and decorate with framed vintage whiskey ads or whiskey-themed art.
Create a striking display for your whiskey collection with a wooden shelving unit or custom glass-doored cabinet. Consider installing subtle LED lighting to accentuate your bottles and add an elegant touch to your whiskey haven.
As the leaves begin to fall outside, your whiskey room becomes a cozy retreat, embracing the season within its sophisticated and inviting ambiance.

ARTICLE BY LEAH DUTTON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY WILLIAM CHRIS VINEYARDSThis month celebrates the state’s wine heritage and highlights its regional progress. You don’t need to go to Fredericksburg to find top-quality producers of 100% Texas wine. Most Texas wineries thrive in the Hill Country, minutes from Dripping Springs. As harvest season ends, it’s an excellent time to explore local wineries and discover the best winemakers.
Here are a few top spots to celebrate Texas Wine Month.
Lost Draw Wines ’ second location in Johnson City is quickly becoming a local favorite. With views of the sprawling 11-acre vineyard and its fresh, dry wines with
authentic Texas character, Lost Draw deserves a spot in your collection.
Family-run and relatively young, Ab Astris in Stonewall is a prime destination for premium Texas wine in the Hill Country. Enjoy scenic views and live music in their tasting room and patio.
Recognized as a “World’s Best Vineyard” for two consecutive years, William Chris Vineyards in Hye offers an elevated wine tasting experience for your wine country day trip. Reserve a spot at their Vineyard Table to add a culinary element to your tasting.
“I’m so happy to be in Texas and to make yummy things at Camp Lucy,” says Smith. I’m looking forward to charming my new Dripping Springs neighbors the best way I know how— through their bellies!”
Owner Kim Hanks is excited about the addition, stating, “Hannah’s talent adds a new layer of excitement to our team. Her dedication to the craft elevates our culinary offerings to new heights, ensuring that Camp Lucy remains a destination where every bite is an unforgettable memory.”
Amid the picturesque landscapes of Dripping Springs, a fresh breeze of culinary excellence has swept into town: Her name is Hannah Smith. Hailing from California, Hannah, along with her husband and three children, has planted her roots in our beloved town. A seasoned pastry chef, her journey is as diverse as the delectable treats she crafts. From the art of pastry production to the intricate world of recipe development, Hannah’s expertise is multifaceted. Her passion for all things pastry has culminated in her new role as the Executive Pastry Chef at Camp Lucy, a 282-acre Hill Country resort known for its enchanting wedding venues and serene getaways.
Smith’s venture into the world of pastry began years ago. Having previously owned and operated Gemini Bakehouse in Los Angeles, her decision to move to the serene Texas Hill Country marks a new chapter in her culinary adventure. Her expertise and innovation make her an invaluable asset to Camp Lucy’s ever-evolving culinary landscape.
At Tillie’s, Camp Lucy’s on-site restaurant, Smith is set to orchestrate a symphony of flavors, introducing a medley of seasonal pastries, handcrafted breads and delectable desserts that span the restaurant’s breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner offerings. But her influence goes beyond the dining room. Collaborating with Banquets Executive Chef Meredith Shaffer, Smith will also weave her pastry magic into the dessert offerings and wedding cakes that grace the tables of Camp Lucy’s four distinguished wedding venues.
Originating in Britain during the early 1840s, afternoon tea is a charming ritual that evolved as a delightful bridge between meals. In a time when dinner was served fashionably late at 8 p.m., afternoon tea emerged as a mini meal to satisfy hunger and appease anticipation. Comprised of dainty finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, and an array of sweet pastries and cakes, this meal was a celebration of flavors and a moment of refined leisure.
Recognizing the shared values of timeless elegance and warm hospitality, Kim Hanks, owner of The Old Bell Hotel in England and Camp Lucy in Dripping Springs, envisioned an opportunity to blend the charm of England’s afternoon tea with Texas’s Hill Country charm.
“Seeing the smiles and shared conversations during afternoon tea at The Old Bell Hotel inspired me to create the same joyful ambiance in the heart of Dripping Springs. And with Hannah’s exceptional pastry-making talents, we can make ‘Afternoon Tea at Tillie’s’ a reality,” says Hanks.
But the magic isn’t just in the food. It’s in the ambiance, the setting and the company.
In Hanks’s words, “It isn’t just about scones, desserts and sandwiches; afternoon tea, just like Camp Lucy, is about creating a space where friends and family can gather, indulge, and create cherished memories.”
As Smith’s journey intersects with Camp Lucy’s commitment to excellence, it’s a duet that promises to resonate. Her creative energy, coupled with the enchanting backdrop of Dripping Springs, is a testament to Camp Lucy’s desire to continually raise the bar.

ARTICLE BY ALLISON WOODWARD PHOTOGRAPHY BY KRISTEN HAFNERThere’s nothing like the tradition of Friday night lights in Texas. Dripping Springs has its own high school football traditions, but one in particular sets the Tiger Stadium experience apart: fresh fried catfish.
Nobody can say for sure when the tradition started, but it goes back more than 20 years.
It takes about 60 volunteers to handle the concessions for every home game. The Dripping Springs Tiger Band Boosters run the entire operation to fundraise for the 200-member band.
“We could not do much of what we do without it,” says Luke Hassell. “The cook has to be taken seriously, and I do believe we have held well to that tradition.”
It’s the fourth year Luke’s been in charge of the operation. “For me, it’s a serious tradition. With my kids in band, it’s essential to help,” he says.
The boosters cook around 200 pounds of catfish each week. That’s enough for about 500 servings.
“It is hot, greasy, smoky, hectic, crowded and not to be traded for anything. Many great lifelong friendships are forged here. We are all bonded by the task at hand: serving the best food possible to thousands in a ninety-minute window,” says Luke. “It is such a satisfying experience.”
