She has also appeared in the ensemble of Kindleberger Arts’ production of The Wizard of Oz. In her free time, Laurie enjoys traveling, sewing, volunteering, and singing in Blendings ensemble and as a soloist.
Katie Reas* (Dresser) is a first-time volunteer at the Civic, but has lived in Kalamazoo her whole life. Past theatre experiences include being in the ensemble for The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, and Hello, Dolly!, all performed with Homeschool Performing Arts. In her time, Katie enjoys trivia nights, watching old movies, and video games.
Sirasa Schonder (Music Director) made her Civic debut with Once On This Island in 2019. She has also worked on Pippi Longstocking, The World Goes Round, The 1940's Radio Hour and most recently, Side by Side by Sondheim. She holds a B.A. in Music as well as an M.D. (internal medicine). She has also served as music director for Mamma Mia! and The Wizard of Oz at Kindleberger Park Festival.
Reed Shilts (Follow Spot Operator) enjoys every aspect of being part of a crew, from flying people to making special effects that much more special. Returning to Kalamazoo after living in the Boston area for 30 years, Reed is a retired Principal Engineer and a lover of anime, movies, and science fiction. He has restored a Kalamazoo landmark historic house on South St., just 2 blocks from the Civic. He has previously crewed on numerous shows, and his favorites include By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, Hairspray, and Mary Poppins.
RJ Soule (Floor/Fly Crew) is originally from Jackson, Michigan, but R.J. has lived in Kalamazoo since 1987 and has been involved in many shows, on-stage and behind the scenes, at the Civic. You may have recently seen him in the Civic's productions of War Paint, Hello, Dolly, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!. His favorite role he's ever performed was Henry Edsel Ford in Romance Guaranteed. Besides theatre, in his free time R.J. enjoys mountain hiking and photography.
Jared Watson (Assistant Sound Designer) (he/him/his) is the sound design intern here at the Civic. Originally from Lake Orion, Michigan, he has lived in Kalamazoo for 5 years. Interests other than theatre include electronic music production, recording, and attending anime conventions.
Katerina Willis* (Choreographer) (she/they) is the choreographer for Meet Me in St Louis and this is her debut with the Civic. She is currently a Junior at WMU studying Dance (BFA) and Video Art (Minor). They are initially from Hartland, MI. Their choreography has been selected for events including Kalamazoo Art Hop, OutFront Kalamazoo’s Pride, Short Stack Film Festival, and Mostra International de Dança Festival. Outside of dance, she enjoys visual art, working out, and spending time with her roommates and cat, Peanut. This is her first theatre production and is grateful for the opportunity the Civic has provided to expand their experience as a choreographer.
Jackie Wolfgang* (Dresser) is volunteering at the Civic for the first time, though her son, Brandon, has been involved with the Civic for a while. Her favorite show was when her son was in the Penguin Project production of Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.! this past spring. In the past, she’s done makeup and hair in high school for theatre productions. Jackie says she is “proud of my son Brandon, who is in this show, and I wanted to help out.”
We would not exist without the generous gift of time and talent provided by our Volunteers. The following Volunteers stuck with us during one of our most challenging times and we are forever grateful. Please join us in thanking these Volunteers who shared their time and talent from June, 2022 to September 28, 2022.
