Director’s Note

The Civic first produced “Dancing at Lughnasa” in 1994. This stellar performance was an AACT Festival entrant, winning State, Regional, and National Competitions and culminating with a performance at the International Festival in Monaco. With a cast including Sharon Williams, Mychelle Hopkins, Kitty Kachniewicz, Melanie Gray Allen, Laura Walczak, Keith Clark, Ray Slater and of course Daniel Coyne, most of whom I have been honored to know and work with over the past 30 years. Directed by the incomparable Jim Carver. Now, as then, this play is about family ties and the day to day tensions, dramas, laughter, and tears that cement them. Even with distance and time, moments stand in our memories that shape the people we become. Sometimes in spite of our own wishes and best intentions. A sound, a song, a passing waft of scent can take us instantly back to a place in our childhood where we felt warm and loved and safe, or back to that moment when we realized that the adults in our lives were only people, fragile and fallible, just like us.

I am honored and humbled to work with this talented group of performers and technical professionals and I know that you will enjoy your visit to Ballybeg in the home of the Mundy Sisters. Come in, Be Welcome.( Te’igh isteach, ta’ fa’ilte romhat) There’s to be scones and bilberry jam.

Cast Bios

Anne Copeland

Anne is excited to be making her debut at the Civic. Outside of the theater, Anne enjoys writing, testing out bizarre recipes, and thrift stores. Her guilty pleasure? Impromptu musical re-enactments of office drama (complete with dramatic pauses). Anne would like to thank her family and friends for their support—and for their patience when she inevitably forgets her phone.

Daniel Coyne

Dan Coyne also appeared as Michael Evans in the 1994 Civic production of DANCING AT LUGHNASA, and the 1997 AACT competition version that went on to represent the United States in Monaco. Other past roles using dialect include THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE (Gordon Lowther); DA (Young Charlie); A LIFE (Young Desmond); THE FLIGHT OF THE EARLS (Ian Earl); THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE (Pato Dooley); ELLIS ISLAND (Manny Steen); MY FAIR LADY (Henry Higgins); and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (Hercule Poirot).

“Dedicated to those still fighting against lying by government leaders, against hatred and division, against hurting refugees and those in need, and FOR democracy, good government, and kind and respectful treatment for ALL men and women.”

Gail Curtis Snyder

Last year Gail appeared as Claire in the Civic’s Readers Theatre production of Whose Life Is It Anyway and in the ensemble of Is There Life After High School? She has worked at several theatres in West Michigan, with some of her favorite roles being Emma in Over The River and Through the Woods (Great Escape Stage Company) Mrs. Forrest in Psycho Beach Party, Katherine in Mothers and Sons (Great Escape Stage Company), Sunny Jacobs in The Exonerated (The Whole Art Theatre), Mattie Fae in August Osage County (What A Do Theatre), Arlene in Next Fall (Great Escape Stage Company) Olive in The Odd Couple Female Version (Skits and Giggles) and Ouiser in Steel Magnolias (Great Escape Stage Company)

Gail has appeared in several films, including the role of Joyce in the feature film Muriel and Joyce Get A Boat (by ps lorio), which premiered last year through SHE Films Media and is now streaming on Vudu. A short film, A Most Unusual Christmas Tale (ps lorio) is in post production and a Muriel and Joyce sequel begins filming in May.

“Much love to Lisa Marie for the direction on this show, as well as giving me a jump start in community theatre many years ago!”

Traci Glasscock is thrilled to be performing in her third show at the Civic. “This may be a late start for me, but I’m hoping for many more years here at the Civic.”

Some of her favorite highlights of volunteering at the Civic include ushering for many shows, feeding the companies of shows during tech rehearsals, and performing on stage. Traci loves being involved in the theatre because the people at the Civic are so wonderful to work with! When not in rehearsal, she likes to make jewelry, produce art, tap dance (“when my body lets me”), and play music. Traci would like to thank her family and friends for all their support & encouragement.

Rick

Moll

Rick’s first opportunity came in the Civic’s 2012 Readers Theatre production of A Trip to Bountiful. Since that time appearing in various productions including last fall’s production of “ Let it Be”. Rick is also an active member of the Allegan Community Players as well as The Paw Paw Village Players

Robert James Piellusch

Robert James Piellusch is originally from Douglaston, New York City and moved to Michigan when he was twelve years old. The son of a first generation Irish, Roman Catholic American mother and an Irish/German American

father who both grew up in New York City during the depression, he has relatable roots in this play. Bob’s love for theatre is also routed in his NYC upbringing as his father and mother went “into the city” to see performances on “Broad Way.” Musical albums were “always” on the Magnavox cabinet stereo in the living room on holidays at the Piellusch house in Douglas Manor. Bob was first cast at the Civic in the 2006 production of “The Sound of Music” and has been a volunteer ever since appearing in six productions at the Civic so far with this being his seventh. Bob also ushers at many shows throughout the season. In this production he is Understudy for Gerry and Jack. “This performance is dedicated to Marie J. Woolum.”

Molly Reilly

Molly Reilly is getting back onstage after a 43-year hiatus and is thrilled to be performing in her first show at the Civic. One of her favorite roles includes Agnes Mundy in Dancing at Lughnasa. She loves being involved in theatre because it’s fun. When not in rehearsal, she likes to spend time with family. Molly would like to thank her family for always being supportive.

I am super excited to be part of this amazing theater community. I joined the Civic Theatre family last summer for my first show in over 25 years. I have always had a passion for theatre, and it’s been like coming home from a long trip. The people here have been so supportive and welcoming. I’ve begun to make many new friends, and I look forward to making many more. In my home life I have been married to my sweetheart for almost 26 years. We have two beautiful daughters who are just beginning their own life journeys. I love to read, crochet and play all kinds of games. I also love to travel when time permits. My spouse and I hope to do more road trips this summer. I’d like to thank my family for supporting my dream of returning to the theater and doing things I love so much.

R.J. Soulé

R.J. Soulé has been a part of more Civic shows than he can count. He got his start in theatre as a personal dresser for Sandy Bremer in Sugar Babies. R.J. has had many roles throughout his lifetime but his favorites include Marvin in March of the “Falsettos”, Wilbur in “Hairspray” and Tennessee Williams in the one-man play “Confessions of a Nightingale”. When not at the theatre, R.J. can be found on the hiking trails, be it locally or in the mountains.

David Termuhlen

Thank you, Kalamazoo! In my four years of living here, I have been blessed with the opportunity to act in four productions: Dancing at Lughnasa & Radium Girls at the Civic, and Music Man & Oliver with Center Stage. I had never been in theatre before, but the guidance and camaraderie I have found here have been stupendous. It’s an honor to share the stage with this talented, friendly cast. Special thank you to my wife, Paula.

Stefani Lynn Wallace

Stefani Lynn Wallace is excited to be performing in her 2nd show at the Civic. It’s been over 20 years since she made her debut at the Civic in Guys & Dolls as a Bobbysoxer/Newsboy. She’s been blessed to perform in Greece, Italy, North Carolina, Illinois & Michigan. Some of her favorite roles include Sybel Jo Voth in Bare Backstage Productions’ Quatrefoil, Hannah Chapman in Queer Theatre Kalamazoo’s production of Of Masquerade & Rhyme & Trincula/Spirit in What A Do Theatre’s production of The Tempest. Stefani is grateful for God, Lisa Marie Parker, her family & friends for all of their love & support.
