Greetings,
Thanks for joining us at this performance of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella ! This show is designed to lift your spirits and prepare you for a festive holiday season! The entire company has worked extremely hard to deliver what I refer to as “theatrical magic”. No doubt, you will be amazed by the incredibly talented performers on the stage but there are many individuals working behind-the-scenes, helping to create this outstanding production! I’m thankful for the Civic staff, our volunteers and for all the patrons who continue to support live theatre. A very special thanks to my creative team: Sara Sherman and Marie McColley-Kerstetter. May this production inspire you to laugh, to love and to dream.

Sarah is happy to be a part of another Kalamazoo Civic show! Even though she’s been here since she was very young, it seems like each season tops the next! She enjoys teaching for the Kalamazoo Civic’s outreach program, and is grateful for the opportunity to teach kids the craft that has brought her so much joy. You may have seen her as a few roles in last year’s season, which includes her favorite, Esther in “Meet Me in St. Louis!”
Izabella Albarran
Bella is thrilled to be a part of her third production at the Civic after making her debut last season in “The Sound of Music” and starring as Jane Seymour in “Six: The Musical Teen Edition.” Bella’s first production was “Alice in Wonderland Jr” in 7th grade and she has loved theatre ever since. Bella enjoys painting, drawing and letting her creativity flow. She loves the theatre community because being around others who are just as passionate as she is about theatre makes the whole process worthwhile.
Gabrielle Balanda
Gabrielle Balanda is excited to join the cast of Cinderella. Her most recent Civic credits include “Catch Me If you Can” and “The Sound Of Music.” Gabrielle teaches Music Together at Crescendo Academy of Music.
Luis Raziel Barbosa
Luis (He/They) is a local Kalamazoo actor starring in his third Civic show. Luis studies Acting, Dance, Film, and Musical Theater at Western Michigan University. Outside of school and Theater, Luis performs stand-up comedy and improv. He enjoys sparking his creative mindset by drawing, writing, playing video games, and supporting the Chicano community.
Bri Berning
Bri is excited to be in the cast of “Cinderella”. She grew up watching theater, and when given the opportunity in middle school, she joined in. Her favorite part about being involved in theatre is getting to come together as a community and a company to create something magical. Some of her favorite roles are Janet - “Rocky Horror”, Ado Annie – “Oklahoma”, and “Aladdin” –Choreographer. When not in rehearsal, she’s usually at another rehearsal, she loves to engulf herself in the world of theater, she’s also going to school for Elementary Education. “I would like to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity and to those cheering me on and helping me continue to grow.”
Christopher S. Blades
Christopher is thrilled to be back on the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre stage, he was last seen in “Catch Me If You Can” as Agent Bill Codd. Some of his favorites shows that he has been involved in are “Disney’s Newsies” (Nunzio/Ensemble), “Miss Saigon” (Ensemble, u/s Thuy), “Mary Poppins” (Roberts Aye), “The Music Man” (Choreographer), “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (Director/Choreographer) and “The Last Five Years” (Director). He would like to dedicate his performance to all the dreamers out there. Hope you enjoy Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella!
Meet the Cast
Peter Bryant
Peter is excited to be a part of “Cinderella” and has loved being a part of the Kalamazoo Civic since his debut in “Elf” in 2019. Some of his previous experiences at Kalamazoo Civic include “Big Fish”, “Meet Me in St. Louis”, and “Newsies”. He has also appeared in “Descendants”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Puffs”, and “Shakespeare in Love” at the GRCT. Peter enjoys soccer, volleyball, traveling, and snowboarding. He would like to thank the production team for this incredible opportunity, as well as family and friends for their continued love and support.
Anna Cafagna
Anna fell in love with the Kalamazoo Civic two years ago during that season’s holiday production of “Meet Me in St. Louis”, and is overjoyed to be a part of this season’s holiday production of “Cinderella”. Including this, Anna has performed in six Civic shows, became a teacher for their academy, and most recently worked as Assistant Choreographer for the Civic Youths production of “Finding Nemo Jr”! This experience has meant the world to her, and she gives her love to every member of the company. She gives her thanks to her wonderful family, her amazing friends, her loving partner August, and hopes you enjoy the timeless tale of kindness, courage, and magic that is Cinderella!
Alex Cole
Alex has been involved with theatre for most of his life. He values the arts and thinks it’s the reason he is who he is. He has also been in both “The Sound of Music” & “Catch Me if You Can” at the Kzoo Civic. Besides theatre, he loves trains, history, politics, snowboarding, and plans on becoming a high school social studies teacher.
Lily Evans
Lily is thrilled to make her Civic debut in “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. She has been involved in theatre since she was in elementary school and loves meeting new people and making lifelong friendships. Her favorite role that she’s played so far has been Vi Moore, in “Footloose”. Lily is a full-time student at Western Michigan University and enjoys spending time outside, hanging out with friends and family, and baking! Lily would like to thank the entire production team. She would also like to thank her family, her boyfriend, Preston, and her friends, who never fail to support her.
Elizabeth Gonzalez
Elizabeth is excited to make her Civic debut in “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. Elizabeth began theatre at a very young age and calls the stage home. Some of her past credits include Pink Lady (Grease) and munchkin, crow, and Ozian (Wizard of Oz). Elizabeth is a recruiter for Aflac and loves to spend time with her dogs, cat, husband, and family. She would like to thank her parents, husband, and entire family for their continued support and encouragement.

Evan Gorman
Evan is thrilled to be making her Civic debut in “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. Evan enjoys theatre because she loves to bring joy to other people and entertain them. Being onstage is one of the most freeing feelings, and she loves being able to express myself though characters. Some of her favorite roles include Mrs. Lovett in “Sweeny Todd”, Evan Hansen in “Dear Evan Hansen”, and Veronica Sawyer in “Heathers”. She’d like to thank her parents for all their support and how much they care about making her dreams come true.
Ava Grunder
Ava is ecstatic to be making her Civic debut in “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. Ava’s past credits include Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Annie (The Play That Goes Wrong) and Wendy Jo (Footloose) all at Portage Northern High School. Ava has loved theatre since she was little and is passionate about classical singing and hopes to pursue Vocal Performance in college. She would like to thank her family, specifically her mom, Jennifer, for always supporting her music. She would also like to thank her teachers Denene Mulay-Koch and Corlyn Longer-Schreck for helping her grow as an artist.
Gwenée Hart
Gwenée is excited to be onstage for her third Civic production. Her past Civic credits include “A Raisin in the Sun” as ‘Ruth Younger’ and “Barbeque” as ‘Lillie Anne’. Gwenée works at the Battle Creek VA and is mother to her 11 year old son Kaeden. She would like to thank her grandparents, who were both always so extremely supportive and who she can hear rooting for me every
time she does anything! Her parents, Dr. Haydon and Pastor Karen Moorman. Her beautiful sister, Psontia Fowler. Her awesome and extremely handsome and talented son, Mr. Kaeden Johnson. Her family and friends who support and come to see the shows she’s in. The one and only, Mr. Anthony J. Hamilton. The staff and crew and this SUPERB cast! She has lifelong friends now and that makes her more than happy!
Joby Hertel
Joby is returning to the civic this season after a 14-year hiatus to raise two wonderful kids. It is great to be back! Joby has operated J Hertel & Associates, a local remodel business for 22 years. He would like to thank his wife of 29 years Donna and two great kids Tessa and Commodore for their support.
Jeannine Nicole Jones
Jeannine Jones is excited to be in another Civic show after making her debut in “A Raisin In The Sun” last year, though she has been in many others throughout her theatre career, she notes her favorite as “Rich Man Poor Spirit” at the Gem Theatre and The Orpheum Theatre, where she played the role of The Villainess. Jeannine was born in Grand Rapids but has lived in Kalamazoo for 9 years with her husband, Ryan, and their two children, Jerah and Rayah. In her free time, she enjoys singing and teaching children. “I want to thank My Mom, Dad, brother Jamel, my daughters, & husband, for always pushing me to not give up but to continue to strive to do what I love.”

Meet the Cast
Kaitlyn Lee
Kaitlyn Lee (she/her) is excited to be making her Civic Theatre debut as Charlotte in “Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. Some of her favorite previous roles include the Witch in “Into The Woods”, Marcy Park in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, and Antonio in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”. Kaitlyn is a senior at Western Michigan University and is studying English: Creative Writing as well as American Sign Language. She would like to thank her parents, friends, the Civic Theatre community, and her cat.
Sydney Lewis
Sydney began volunteering at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre in 2008 when she played Ms. Teavee in her first Civic production, “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka”. In 2018, she joined the Civic staff as a member of the Front of House team. Before moving to Michigan, she received her B.A. in Theatre from Georgia Southern University. Sydney loves knitting, watching horror movies, and petting dogs. Some of her favorite credits include “Hello, Dolly!”, “Les Miserables”, “Godspell”, “Rock of Ages”, and “Xanadu”.
Katey Martinek
Katey is no stranger to the stage. She got her start in her college’s productions of “Barnum”, “Our Town”, and “Pippin”. Since then, she’s taken on more of a backstage position with stagecraft, hair & makeup, props mistress, & choreography. Her favorite part of becoming active in theater again is the people she’s met, the relationships she’s made, and the stories we get to tell. Katey would like to thank her

Laurie Lynne Nic
Laurie Lynne Nic has been in more Civic shows than she can count. Most recently, she was in “Let It Be: A Musical Celebration of the Beatles.” Some of her past Civic credits include “Willy Wonka” (Mrs. Beauregarde), “Fiddler on the Roof” (Grandma Tzeitel), “Songs of the Sixties”, and “The Great American Song Book”. Laurie loves the sense of family that each new company brings. Laurie manages the office at Westminster Presbyterian Church and in her free time, she enjoys traveling (especially with her family and grandchildren Scarlett and Theodore), costuming, horseback riding, reading and hiking. Laurie would like to thank Her longsuffering husband David who has given up quality time with her for 2 Civic shows this fall!!
Aaron Potter
Aaron Potter (he/him) is an English teacher and the head of theatre at Kalamazoo Christian High School. This is his fifth production with the Civic Theatre and third time on stage. You may have seen him performing in “Newsies” or “Meet Me in St. Louis” or pulling curtains and moving furniture (sometimes the wrong direction!) in “Big Fish” and “Catch Me if You Can”. One thing Aaron particularly loves about doing shows at the Civic is the chance to do so alongside his beautiful wife, Andi. He also just adores the wonderful, welcoming community of the Civic. Enjoy the show!

Andi Potter
Andi Potter (she/her) is excited to be part of sharing this timeless love story! She has previously performed on the Civic stage in “Newsies” and “Meet Me in St. Louis”. Offstage, she loves to read stories and listen to Taylor Swift. Her dream come true is performing alongside Aaron Potter, her very own Prince Charming. See you at Midnight!
Victoria Smith
Victoria is excited to be a part of her second show at the Civic, after making her debut earlier this season in “Six: The Musical – Teen Edition”. Victoria grew up in dance and loves that unlike other arts, theatre is for the now, once it’s done it’s done, and she finds that ephemeral quality beautiful. Her favorite past performances include Lady-in-Waiting in “SIX”, Matilda in “Matilda”, and Eliza Doolittle in “Pygmalion”. She would like to thank her parents Elizabeth and Rocky Smith for all of their support.
R.J. Soulé
R.J. Soulé has been a part of more Civic shows than he can count. He got his start in theatre as a personal dresser for Sandy Bremer in Sugar Babies. R.J. has had many roles throughout his lifetime but his favorites include Marvin in March of the “Falsettos”, Wilbur in “Hairspray” and Tennessee Williams in the one-man play “Confessions of a Nightingale”. When not at the theatre, R.J. can be found on the hiking trails, be it locally or in the mountains.
Melinda Vanderbilt
Melinda is thrilled to be in “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” after making her Civic debut in the “Little Mermaid”. Some of her favorite past roles include Asaka in “Once on this island”, Mrs. Potts in “Beauty and the Beast” and now the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. Outside of theatre Melinda loves spending time with her family and singing almost anywhere. She would like to thank her mother, children, family and friends for supporting her and cheering her on.
Jared Volz
Jared Volz returns to the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre after playing Franz in “The Sound of Music”. He’s now also proud to serve on the Civic’s Board of Directors. Active in theater since high school, some favorite past roles include Charlie Brown (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown) and Jack (Into the Woods). When not on stage, Jared takes to the skies as a pilot. He loves to travel with his wife, Devon, and their daughters, Andora and Veda. Jared likes spending time in his woodshop and enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and skiing.

Maria Welser
Maria Welser is so thankful to make her Civic debut in “Cinderella”. She has a mix of theatre experience, ranging from writing and producing plays, performing Shakespeare, and for the past decade, teaching children’s theatre. Her love of teaching took her on a short hiatus from performing to pursue a Master’s in Elementary Education. Now, she is so excited to be back on the stage. Still, you can also find her teaching art at Mattawan Elementary, running outside, or asking her boyfriend to fix something that she may or may not have broken…. we all have talents, but driving and spatial awareness are not mine.
Ben Zylman
Ben is a multi award-winning actor/ director with over 130 productions to his credit. Named Actor of the Year by the Kalamazoo Gazette for his performance in The Nerd, Ben also received the Excellence in Acting Award from the American Association of Community Theatre for his work in “The Boys Next Door.” He was given our Excellence in Performance Award for his portrayals of Man in Chair in “The Drowsy Chaperone” and Applegate in “Damn Yankees.” Ben received CTAM’s Outstanding Achievement in Acting Award for his performance in “The Imaginary Invalid.” In recognition of his many accomplishments, Ben has been presented with the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo’s Community Medal of Arts Award (2005) and our Larkin H. Noble Award (2015).
Meet the Production Crew
Anthony J. Hamilton (Director/ Co-Choreographer)
Prior to his appointment as Artistic Director, Hamilton served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Kalamazoo College (‘22-’23) and Guest Professor of Theatre at Western Michigan University (‘21-’22). Most recently, he appeared as Sly in Detroit ‘67 at Hope Repertory Theatre in Holland, MI. Previous directing and choreography credits at the Civic include: Ain’t Misbehavin’, Once on this Island, 1940s Radio Hour, The Piano Lesson, Disney’s Newsies, A Raisin in the Sun, Barbecue, The Lion in Winter, Disney’s The Lion King Jr., and Catch Me if You Can. Other directing credits include: Intimate Apparel (WMU), Into the Woods (WMU), Dutchman (K College) and Next to Normal (K College). Hamilton received a B.A. from Western Michigan University and an M.F.A. from Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.
Marie McColley-Kerstetter (Music Director)
Marie is originally from a small New England town called Ware, MA. She got her undergraduate degree from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, PA. and her master’s degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Many will recognize Marie as the illustrious “Ms. K” who taught music in the Kalamazoo Public Schools for over 35 years. Marie has been a Music Director at the Kalamazoo Civic for almost 50 years. She is proud to be part of the Civic’s history and considers the people she has met here family. She has received the Excellence in Education Award several
times along with the Community Medal of Arts and the Civic’s Larkin Noble Award.
Among her favorite past productions, she lists: Godspell, Baby, Fiddler on the Roof, Evita, Hello Dolly, The Wizard of Oz, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, Merrily We Roll Along, Newsies, The Sound of Music, Catch Me if You Can, and so many others.
Marie thanks Westminster Presbyterian as well as her friends Audrey, Allison, Sirasa, Sara, Anthony and Ben for their continued love and support. Finally, Marie dedicates this show to her two sisters Aggie and Margaret.
Sara Sherman (Choreographer)
Sara has worked as a teaching artist and choreographer for several years throughout the greater Kalamazoo and Chicago metropolitan areas. A former preschool teacher, she is particularly passionate about early childhood exposure to the arts and enjoys having the opportunity to teach some of our youngest students in the Academy. Sara is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Bachelor of Theatre Arts (BTA) program and currently serves as Early Childhood Director at Excel Dance Centre, where she received much of her dance training growing up. Sara has enjoyed volunteering at the Civic for years, appearing in productions like Smokey Joe’s Café and The 1940s Radio Hour. Civic Choreography credits include: Disney’s Newsies, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Sound of Music, Catch Me if You Can, SIX: The Musical- Teen Edition, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Crew
Brian R. Bay
Brian is no stranger to the Civic stage. On-stage and behind the scenes, Brian has participated in more than 45 productions. Brian got started in theatre when he saw his drama teacher as Charlemagne in Pippin at the Civic in 1978. He was completely entranced by the magic in the production. Some of his favorite roles to date include Dennis Dupree in Rock of Ages, Annas in Jesus Christ Superstar and Gremio in Taming of the Shrew. Brian is an Associate Broker for Strong Properties and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Brian would like to thank his wife, Martha, of 34 years for her support and inspiration.
Ashley Beach
Ashley is thrilled to be assistant stage managing on “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. Her previous crew credits include “First Date”, “The Sound of Music” and “Rainbow Fish”. Ashley loves theatre because it is her happy place. And the Civic is so inclusive, she feels like she’s made a second family here. Outside of theatre, Ashley loves to create art. She would like to thank the Civic for providing her with an atmosphere that she never knew was possible.
Isaac Byler
Isaac is excited to be working on Cinderella! Isaac has stage managed many productions some of which including The Sound Of Music, Frozen Jr, A Raisin In The Sun and the CYT production of The Lion King Jr. Isaac is currently pursuing a career in stage management.
Joni Edwards
Joni Edwards is a long time Civic volunteer working both on stage and backstage. I was in the cast of World Goes Round and Let It Be. These shows proved I can still sing and dance. I have worked on many shows as a dresser including War Paint, Elf, Dames at Sea, Murder on The Orient Express, Xanadu, Newsies, Meet Me In St. Louis, Clybourne Park, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Big Fish and The 39 Steps. I would like to thank my family for their support of me pursuing my passion.
Larry Foster Goodrich
Larry is thrilled to be backstage once again in “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. Larry has volunteered on a number of Civic shows, most recently he was a member of the floor crew for “Catch Me If You Can” but he’s also worked backstage on “39 Steps”, “Moon Over Buffalo”, “Christmas Schooner”, and “Damn Yankees.”
Val Glasscock
Val is excited to be back Stage Managing in the Auditorium for Cinderella! Fun fact: Val was the substitute trumpet player in the 2005 production of Cinderella here at the Civic Theater and is excited to bring this production to stage. Some of her favorite shows she’s been a part of are “The 39 Steps”, “The Sound of Music”, “Love, Loss, and What I Wore”, and “Sister Act”. She thanks her family and friends who have supported her through the seasons, her cats, Zoee and Sweetie, and especially her mom, Traci, for being there through it all. “I less than three you!” Dream with your heart and enjoy the show!

Elia Ingerham
After taking a few acting classes in the area, Elia decided to serve as a mentor for the 2022 Penguin Project Production of School House Rock Live! Jr. and fell in love with the process of mounting a show. Since then, she has worked on a variety of plays such as Big Fish (2023) and Barbecue (2023). Elia would like to thank her family and the Civic staff. “Thank you for seeing me and giving me so many amazing opportunities.”
Kelsey Jordan
Kelsey is so excited to be a dresser for Cinderella. She was in this show in 7th grade on the stage in middle school Kelsey is happy to do it all over again. Kelsey is involved in 3 shows right now for sure Cinderella, Kelsey is finally making her debut on the stage after 14 years with the civic in February. Kelsey is in Press Start as Pac Anne. And also in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Center Stage Theater. Kelsey is so excited for this season of theater, and finally made a family here at the civic.
Tammy Mammel
Tammy has been directing high school and middle school productions since 1996. In addition, she was the stage manager for Avalon School of Dance in Holland, MI and Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, MI. Tammy has performed, directed, stage-managed, or been otherwise engaged in over 50 productions. In 2005, she won Most Valuable Volunteer for stage managing Side by Side by Sondheim at Midland Center for the Arts. Outside of theater, Tammy loves reading, cats, sailing, and being Grammy. She’d like to thank her wonderful husband, Steve, for all of his love and support.
Torri Jo Mitchell
Torri Jo Mitchell (he/she/they) started at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre in 2013 as a spotlight operator for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The years afterward would see him always coming back to the Civic, crewing for shows like Once On This Island and Newsies, and SMing or ASMing for shows like Hello, Dolly!, The World Goes ‘Round, and Meet Me in St. Louis. They’ve also done theatre work for the Kindleberger Summer Festival, Farmer’s Alley Theatre, Saugatuck Center for the Arts, and Bare Backstage Productions. When not doing theatre, Torri Jo loves reading, writing, playing video games, being a geek about samurai, and hanging out with her cats.
Allison Mayo
Allison is thrilled to be a member of the crew in her first show at the Civic. Her past credits include Stage Manager for You Can’t Take It with You, Shadow Puppeteer for an original show at Saint Mary’s College, Trekkie Monster in Avenue Q, Young Mona in Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Allison loves theatre because it is an enjoyable experience working with others to put on a production. Outside of the theatre Allison likes to read and spend time with her son and husband. She would like to thank her family for their support in helping her do something she loves.
Alan Moerdyk
Alan is a repeat offender in both cast and crew at The Civic. His most recent stage appearance was in “Let It Be: A Musical Celebration of the Beatles.”
Albert “Abby” Newman
Abby is excited to be a member of crew in Cinderella. This is his 4th show and he loves helping on crew for the Civic Productions. He has helped with 2 of the penguin projects shows and 2 Regular shows.

The Civic Production Team
Anthony J. Hamilton (Artistic Director)
Prior to his appointment as Artistic Director, Hamilton served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Kalamazoo College (‘22-’23) and Guest Professor of Theatre at Western Michigan University (‘21-’22). Most recently, he appeared as Sly in Detroit ‘67 at Hope Repertory Theatre in Holland, MI. Previous directing and choreography credits at the Civic include: Ain’t Misbehavin’, Once on this Island, 1940s Radio Hour, The Piano Lesson, Disney’s Newsies, A Raisin in the Sun, Barbecue, The Lion in Winter, Disney’s The Lion King Jr., and Catch Me if You Can. Other directing credits include: Intimate Apparel (WMU), Into the Woods (WMU), Dutchman (K College) and Next to Normal (K College). Hamilton received a B.A. from Western Michigan University and an M.F.A. from Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.
Paige Billian (Scenic Design Intern)
Paige (They/She) is excited to be joining the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre! Paige graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Design & Production and Animation, and has previously volunteered with the Fort Wayne Youtheatre as a high school intern. When not working on shows, they love to knit, build miniatures and play board games with friends.
Ryan Burke (Scenic Carpenter)
Ryan is a Michigan native from the Croswell Opera House in Adrian. After a summer at the Tibbits Opera House, he has spent the rest of his career in the Kalamazoo Civic scene shop. Whether it’s building scenery or singing and dancing backstage, Ryan isn’t alive until the house is open and the first cue is called. He is a kind soul and wonderful friend; 100% dedicated to the new vision and core values of the Civic Theatre. You’ll like this guy.
Jamie Chapin (Properties Artisan)
Jamie graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s in Entertainment Design & Technology. They have worked with Cedar Point: Live Entertainment (2022) and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis (2023) since graduation. Some of their favorite hobbies are crocheting, drawing, and playing Dungeons & Dragons.

Stacey is excited to have been hired at the Civic after her year as an intern. Originally from Iowa, where she grew up doing all things theatre, Stacey finished school at Beloit College before joining the Civic staff in 2021. Some of her favorite stage management experiences are productions of Twelfth Night in her hometown, The Moors at Beloit, and Murder on the Orient Express at the Civic. She’d like to thank her family for helping her get settled in the Kalamazoo area and a few of her mentors: Marina Bergenstock, Grant Freeman, Lisa Brannan, and Alicia Bailey.

Olivia Johnston (she/they) is thrilled to be continuing their Stage Manager journey here at the Civic. Olivia enjoys the behind-the-scenes aspects of theater and is ready to lend their talents as Stage Manager for Big Fish. They have enjoyed working with all the cast and crew and hope that you enjoy the magic they have created. This will be Olivia’s first production with the Kalamazoo Civic Theater and their ninth production as Stage Manager overall.
Elaine Kauffman
(Resident Costume Designer)
Elaine first joined the Civic staff in 1998 as our Costume Designer. She left to create her own custom clothing design business, Elaine K Designs which she has run for the past 18 years. She returned to the Civic as
Costume Designer in 2018. She graduated from WMU with a degree in Fashion Design and has over 25 years of professional costume design working at almost every theatre in the Kalamazoo area including the Barn Theatre, 3-D Touring Productions, WMU Dance Dept., WMU Opera, Kalamazoo College Theatre Dept., Farmers Alley Theatre and many other freelance costume design projects. One of her favorite costuming experiences was creating the “creature costume” for a horror movie filmed in Kalamazoo. Outside of the theatre, Elaine enjoys the art of cheese making!
David Kyhn
(Resident Scenic Artist)
David has served on the Civic s staff since the summer of 2000. Over that time, it has been his pleasure to work with the Civic’s passionate volunteers and the skillful, dedicated staff. He has especially enjoyed mentoring and learning from so many bright interns at the beginning of their careers. The Civic has provided countless opportunities for him to grow as an artist, exploring new ideas, technologies, and aesthetics, and he looks forward to future wonder and discovery with the vibrant Civic community.

Dominic Lannon
(Technical Direction Intern)
Dominic Lannon (he/him) has been captivated by storytelling for most of his life. Whether building sets, tinkering with puppets, or smoothing out a script, he loves nothing more than successfully bringing a story to life. He received a BA in Theatre from Hamilton College in 2022 and has since worked as a scenic carpenter at Oak Park Festival Theatre and Circle Theatre. He’s thrilled to be working at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and looking forward to learning the skills to be a Technical Director! When he isn’t working, he spends his time reading folk tales, playing card games, and keeping in touch with his cats.
Christopher Lewis (Resident Properties Master)
Christopher is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a B.A. in Fine Arts. He joined the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre staff in 2008 as a scenic carpenter. In May of 2023, he became the Resident Properties Master. Some of his favorite Civic productions are Jekyll & Hyde, The Who’s Tommy, The Borrowers, Once on this Island, Xanadu, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Christopher’s hobbies include building prop replicas, designing and constructing puppets, blacksmithing, and playing tabletop games.
Delaney McKenzie (Resident Lighting Designer)
Delaney joined the Civic staff in 2018 as the Master Electrician and became the Resident Lighting and Sound Designer in 2020. She earned her BS in Theater: Design and Technology at Northwest Missouri State University and a MFA in Theater at Southern Illinois University where she specialized in Lighting Design. She has worked with the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, Endstation Theater Company, McLeod Summer Playhouse, and as Lead Lighting Technician at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Delaney has a passion for Jesus, music, and the arts, spending much of her time outside of the Civic dedicated to worship and creating beautiful things. She is a painter and a prolific fiber artist, often seen with a set of needles or crochet hook between meetings or backstage during performances.
Jacob Miller (Scenic Carpenter)
Jacob graduated Grand Valley State University in 2020, earning his BA in Theatre and History and a minor in Music. He has worked at the Croswell Opera House, and the theatres at both Grandville and Vicksburg High School. In 2021, he made his Civic debut in The Tempest and worked as a Teaching Artist. In his free time Jacob still loves to act, traveling between Three Rivers and Grand Rapids for various projects.

Phillip A. Miller (Technical Director)
Phillip has worked on every production we have produced since he joined the Civic staff in 2000. Prior to his arrival at the Civic, Phillip served as the Assistant Technical Director at the Barn Theatre and as a draftsman for the Children’s Theatre Company and School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Additionally, Phillip was the Technical Assistant at Western Michigan University, while earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Design and Technical Production.
Justin Muse (Scenic Design Associate)
Justin is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a BFA in Theater Design and Production. He is excited to be joining the Civic team as an intern for the 2022-23 season. Past designs include Radium Girls, Bare: A pop Opera, and Don Pasquale.
Jacob Myny (Resident Sound Designer)
Jacob is excited for his very first season with the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre! Jacob is the resident sound designer here and comes from South Haven, MI. Jacob earned his BFA degree from Western Michigan University Theatre Department. He has traveled around working in New Hampshire, Florida, and Michigan. Some of his favorite previous works include The Cake (The Naples Players), The Fantastics (Jeans Playhouse), and Much A Do About Nothing (Hope Summer Repertory Theatre). Elliot Odette (Lighting Design Intern)
Elliot Odette is a theatre artist who graduated in 2023 from Lawrence University with a B.A. in Theatre Arts. Their previous work includes lighting design for Lawrence University’s The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) and production design for The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Elliot has also worked with the Oregon Children’s Theatre, including lighting design for SPIDER and The K of D, and most recently prop design for She Persisted. Elliot is excited to be working as the lighting design intern at the Civic this year!

Emma Pegouske (Sound Design Intern)
Emma Pegouske (she/they) is a sound designer and audio engineer and is excited to begin working at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre. She graduated with a BFA in Technical Production from Western Michigan University after working on such shows such as Clue, The Thanksgiving Play and Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical. She can’t wait to bring that experience with her to the Civic.

Van Dien (Costume Design Intern)
My name is Camille Van Dien, I am the current Costume Design Intern at the Kalamazoo Civic. Before coming to the Civic, I went to college at Grand Valley State University where I studied theatre and got my bachelor’s degree in 2021. When I am not working with costumes I enjoy being an actor at local theaters in the area and getting together to play board games with friends.
