Director’s Note
It’s 4:00 on a Monday afternoon. The Auditorium is quiet, still, as a few interns go about their work onstage.
A designer from the back of the house asks, “Can I help you with something?”
“No, thanks. I’m just going to sit here for a bit.”
I breathe in the smells, register the black lacquer and gilt motifs, gaze up at the stunning chandelier, watch as ghosts of characters past dance beneath the proscenium arch: Rosamund, Lucy, Juliet, Morales, Eliza, Maggie… All younger versions of me. I become nostalgic. The designer breaks into my reverie. “Um,…we don’t usually let the public just come and sit in here…” I hear anxiety in the voice. I hear the unsaid. He’s thinking, “crazy lady in row 5!” “Oh, sorry. I’m Mychelle…? The director for Wedding Singer…? We start rehearsals tonight and I got into town early and just wanted to refresh my memory of the space.” We both laugh. The awkward moment passes. The funny thing is it is EXACTLY what we do. We invite the public to come and sit for a while. We want them to take it all in - the sights, the sounds, the smells. We dance before them, we sing. We pull the threads of nostalgia from their work-aday cares. We weave a Romance. We knit a Comedy. We make them laugh. We make them cry. In the theatre, it’s exactly what we do. We are the Civic. Come on in and sit for a while.

Alan has appeared in nineteen stage productions since 2001. His favorite role was as the titular “Stiff” in the 2003 production of Lucky Stiff at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. His recent Kalamazoo Civic appearances were in the 2025 production of Parade and the 2024 production of Let It Be: A Musical Celebration of the Beatles.
Micha E. Myers
Micha is absolutely delighted to be part of such a wonderful company! Having last graced the stage in “Well,” she’s excited to step into the ASM role for this production. With plenty of experience backstage, Micha has also worked as a dresser and shadow puppeteer with The Civic, along with serving as music director, stage manager, and choreographer in Northern Michigan. It’s a joy for her to be involved in this creative adventure!
Jaycee Myner
Jaycee is thrilled to be back at the Civic for another fantastic production. With a deep-seated passion for theater, she has contributed to 16 productions at the Civic, including shows such as “First Date”, “Hunchback of Notre Dame”, and “Newsies”. Jaycee extends heartfelt gratitude to her family for their unwavering support in keeping the household running smoothly during her theatrical endeavors.
Emma Pegouske
Emma is a Sound Designer/Audio Engineer and is currently employed as the Kalamazoo Civic’s Sound Design Intern. Her previous Civic credits include crewing on Six (A1), Cinderella (A2) and Parade (Audio Engineer) and designing Radium Girls and Well. She’s very excited to close out the season with Wedding Singer!
Robyn Shepich
Robyn is thrilled to be working in their eighth show at the Civic. Some of their favorite crew positions include A2 and playback operator at the Parish Theatre. Robyn enjoys being involved in theatre because they get to meet new people. When not in rehearsal, they like to be with friends and go shopping. Robyn would like to thank their friends for always supporting and helping them.
R.J. Soulé
R.J. has been a part of more Civic shows than he can count. He got his start in theatre as a personal dresser for Sandy Bremer in Sugar Babies. R.J. has had many roles throughout his lifetime but his favorites include Marvin in March of the “Falsettos”, Wilbur in “Hairspray” and Tennessee Williams in the one-man play “Confessions of a Nightingale”. When not at the theatre, R.J. can be found on the hiking trails, be it locally or in the mountains.
Laura VanOrman
Laura has been happily volunteering at the Civic for nearly 10 years. She loves to work backstage, this is her happy place. Thank you to my wonderful family for supporting me!

Whether it’s building scenery or singing and dancing backstage, Ryan isn’t alive until the house is open and the first cue is called. He is a kind soul and wonderful friend; 100% dedicated to the new vision and core values of the Civic Theatre. You’ll like this guy.
The Civic Production Team

Stacey Jaeger

Stacey is excited to have been hired at the Civic after her year as an intern. Originally from Iowa, where she grew up doing all things theatre, Stacey finished school at Beloit College before joining the Civic staff in 2021. Some of her favorite stage management experiences are productions of Twelfth Night in her hometown, The Moors at Beloit, and Murder on the Orient Express at the Civic. She’d like to thank her family for helping her get settled in the Kalamazoo area and a few of her mentors: Marina Bergenstock, Grant Freeman, Lisa Brannan, and Alicia Bailey.
The Civic Production Team
Elaine Kauffman
(Resident Costume Designer)
Elaine first joined the Civic staff in 1998 as our Costume Designer. She left to create her own custom clothing design business, Elaine K Designs which she has run for the past 18 years. She returned to the Civic as “Costume Designer in 2018. She graduated from WMU with a degree in Fashion Design and has over 25 years of professional costume design working at almost every theatre in the Kalamazoo area including the Barn Theatre, 3-D Touring Productions, WMU Dance Dept., WMU Opera, Kalamazoo College Theatre Dept., Farmers Alley Theatre and many other freelance costume design projects. One of her favorite costuming experiences was creating the “creature costume” for a horror movie filmed in Kalamazoo. Outside of the theatre, Elaine enjoys the art of cheese making!”
David Kyhn (Resident Scenic Artist)
David has served on the Civic s staff since the summer of 2000. Over that time, it has been his pleasure to work with the Civic’s passionate volunteers and the skillful, dedicated staff. He has especially enjoyed mentoring and learning from so many bright interns at the beginning of their careers. The Civic has provided countless opportunities for him to grow as an artist, exploring new ideas, technologies, and aesthetics, and he looks forward to future wonder and discovery with the vibrant Civic community.
Dominic Lannon
(Technical Direction Intern)
Dominic Lannon (he/him) has been captivated by storytelling for most of his life. Whether building sets, tinkering with puppets, or smoothing out a script, he loves nothing more than successfully bringing a story to life. He received a BA in Theatre from Hamilton College in 2022 and has since worked as a scenic carpenter at Oak Park Festival Theatre and Circle Theatre. He’s thrilled to be working at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and looking forward to learning the skills to be a Technical Director! When he isn’t working, he spends his time reading folk tales, playing card games, and keeping in touch with his cats.
The Civic Production Team

Emma Pegouske (Sound Design Intern)
Emma Pegouske (she/they) is a sound designer and audio engineer and is excited to begin working at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre. She graduated with a BFA in Technical Production from Western Michigan University after working on such shows such as Clue, The Thanksgiving Play and Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical. She can’t wait to bring that experience with her to the Civic.
Camille Van Dien (Costume Design Intern)
My name is Camille Van Dien, I am the current Costume Design Intern at the Kalamazoo Civic. Before coming to the Civic, I went to college at Grand Valley State University where I studied theatre and got my bachelor’s degree in 2021. When I am not working with costumes I enjoy being an actor at local theaters in the area and getting together to play board games with friends.
