PeriPAN:TheNewStateInitiativetoHelpNewMothers

The Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network or PeriPAN, is a new State initiative that operates through the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC) and mirrors our CPAN program It was started in 2023 with a handful of pilot programs and rolled out statewide, including to JPS, in early 2024 While maternal mental health conditions impact 1 in 5 perinatal women, every county in Texas has a persistent shortage of mental health professionals PeriPAN is here to bridge the gap in professional services PeriPAN offers reproductive providers resources, including a direct line to speak with a Perinatal psychiatrist as needed, on any topic related to the behavioral or mental health needs of pregnant and postpartum women All PeriPAN services are provided free of charge and allow providers to reach a mental health expert within 5 minutes Services provided include:

“Curbside consultations” on specific patient cases. Vetted referrals by patient insurance, location, and specialist availability. General questions about mental health care, screening, protocols, medications, and more Training with other clinicians to build knowledge and capacity in perinatal mental health topics

PeriPAN provides virtual CMEs to providers, as well as a one time in person or virtual ethics CMEs Providers can call, email, or even text to get the assistance they need, and can schedule a consult around times that work best for them Phones are answered from 08001700, Monday through Friday and are staffed by master’s level social workers and LPCs who can hand off consults to a Perinatal Psychologist or Nurse Practitioner as needed If providers prefer to leave an after-hours call, it will be followed up on the next business day A key feature is that providers can call as many times as they want regarding as many patients as they want, all at no cost to them or their patients To the contrary information about PeriPAN can be found on the TCMHCC web TCMHCC (utsystem edu)

EnhancingtheTeamExperiencewithPotlucks

As we navigate through our daily responsibilities at the clinics, it's crucial to remember the significance of fostering a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie among our staff members. In light of our separate physical locations, the importance of team building activities becomes even more pronounced

Team building activities serve as invaluable tools in promoting collaboration, communication, and trust among team members They provide opportunities for individuals to understand each other's strengths, weaknesses, and working styles, ultimately leading to improved efficiency and productivity Furthermore, they contribute to a positive work environment, boosting morale and job satisfaction

With this in mind, we are pleased to announce the implementation of team building activities across our clinics These activities will not only help bridge the geographical gaps between our teams but also reinforce our commitment to working cohesively towards our common goals

Additionally, we have organized Leadership Potluck lunches at various locations throughout the year After careful consideration, we have decided to hold two potlucks per year at each location to ensure maximum participation and engagement We have scheduled these events on days when most of the staff will be present in the building, optimizing the opportunity for interaction and collaboration

Below are the dates we have planned for the Potluck lunches at each clinic location:

CAB: April 4th, Oct 31st

NE: April 24th, Oct 10th

CBHR: May 30th, Nov 20th

VP: May 16th, Nov 7th

S6: June 5th, Dec 9th

TW: June 10th, Dec 18th

We encourage all staff members to actively participate in the potluck lunches Your involvement is crucial in nurturing a supportive and cohesive work environment that will ultimately benefit us all

Understanding the New PHP/IOP National Patient Safety Goals

As we gear up for our 2024 Triennial Survey, it's crucial that we grasp the significance of The Joint Commission (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) Understanding these goals will shed light on how our procedures directly affect patient safety and care quality Annually, TJC collects insights from consumers, providers, and healthcare stakeholders to shape the NPSGs, pinpointing key areas for patient safety during their time under our care

You should be familiar with NPSG 15 (reducing suicide risk), NPSG 1 (ensuring dual patient identifiers), and NPSG 7 (curbing healthcare-related infections through hand hygiene) For 2023, there were 16 NPSGs You can find the current NPSG list on your BH clinic or PHP quality board, along with the 2024 Hospital and BH NPSGs attached If you're unsure where to locate your quality board, please ask your leader or colleague Our boards contain vital information on goal performance and improvement initiatives, which TJC Surveyors may ask about during visits

As of July 2023, the new NPSG 16, emphasizes healthcare equity enhancement Given our diverse patient demographic at JPS, it's imperative to ensure equitable healthcare access irrespective of socioeconomic status, race, gender, ethnicity, religion, language, or zip code We're actively implementing initiatives to address healthcare disparities, such as aiding transportation or food insecurity and expanding clinic locations to underserved areas Expect updates on our equity efforts in future newsletters and emails, and we welcome input from all team members

Included are the latest PHP/IOP program Transportation support

data, detailing December's increased Uber usage due to steppeddown care and January's reduced transportation due to weather disruptions

To familiarize staff with NPSG-16, we've added related questions to our PHP/IOP Tracer document for 2024 These questions focus on Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) workflows, aligning with TJC's emphasis on health equity Additionally, to ensure thorough understanding and compliance, we have integrated monthly communication on NPSG-16 progress and any action plan adjustments into our routine This information will be shared at department-level Process Improvement (PI) meetings, fostering transparency and accountability across the organization

If you need clarification on anything mentioned, don't hesitate to reach out to your leader Remember, all team members are n

A New CHW for Outpatient BH

NOTE: No More Ticky Tack On Walls

We would like to inform you about the latest updates regarding Infection Prevention (IP) recommendations for hanging postings throughout our network Previously, it was advised to utilize either double-sided tape or UHU-Tac for securing laminated postings in clinic areas However, based on recent findings, we are now implementing a change in these recommendations

Effective immediately, we are mandating the use of ONLY double-sided tape for hanging any items, as it has come to our attention that sticky tack, such as UHU-Tac, may pose an increased risk to infection prevention due to its potential to harbor bacteria.

We kindly request all team members to conduct a thorough check of their respective areas and replace any existing UHUTac with double-sided tape for hanging postings If you require additional double-sided tape supplies, please do not hesitate to contact Sharon Medley at smedley@jpshealth org to place an order for your location

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated as we
