Most women struggle through life because they lack support in this area – I was once there. Depending on others to meet your needs is one of the most frustrating experience to have a woman. These are some of the teachings that I have been taught as a person and as an entrepreneur. Going back to the total woman and what makes her different. We will look at a few important aspects of her and how you too can become more than you already are. 1. Economic power – it takes resilient to stay relevant in today’s world. One of the things that I have discovered is the need for women to be economically empowered. Most women struggle through life because they lack support in this area – I was once there. My story: I grew up on the west side of San Antonio, Texas. I grew up with both my parents and both of my maternal grandparents. I enjoyed speaking both English and Spanish in the home. My father was ex-military and was a Vietnam Veteran. He taught that life was precious and that time was limited. He said to try not to waste time. He wanted us to get right to work and do something with our lives. I graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes HS in the early 90s. I finished in three years. I later graduated from The University

YP Lai WLEM It was 7:28pm in the evening when the phone rang. It sent shivers down my spine as my wife was expecting our first child and she was due anytime. “Darling, I won’t be able to pick you up in time. Can you please get your dad to take you to hospital and I will meet you there?” I rushed from the construction site and arrived at the maternity ward just in time. My wife as in severe labor pain,

and the contractions were getting closer and closer. Tenderly, I held her hand. But I was very tired as I had hardly slept for the past 3 days working on my high-rise project. Momentarily I placed my head on the mattress, and I fell asleep. The next thing I knew was being slapped, scolded, and humiliated by the nurse for falling asleep while my wife was in pain. The angry and hurt look on my wife’s face seared into my brain. That was my wake-up call! I realized that working hard and working long hours is not the path to success. I have been too busy chasing the corporate dream and have been neglecting my family. I was highly stressed and highly strung, becoming the irritable person that no one wants to hang out with.

In that moment, I made the commitment that I will have Time Freedom to chase my passions and be with the people I love. And to have Financial Freedom too. To be able to fully experience life and give the best life to my family and parents. I spent the next ten years learning from different gurus around the world and systematically set my life on a trajectory that brought me to where I am today. Living in a comfortable home, having all my needs taken care of, and most importantly having the Time and Financial Freedom to do what I love most – traveling around the world and helping busy entrepreneurs claim back their lives through working less and earning more. Excelling in each of the 7 M.A.S.T.E.R.Y is the route towards achieving your ultimate dream life. Time Mastery is the starting point to achieve more results in a shorter time. your life. Having Money Mastery creates the cashflow pattern of the wealthy and turn your monthly surplus into assets that generate passive incomes. Financial Freedom is when income from your assets exceeds your expenses and liabilities.

This was horrible because it impacted my self-worth, regardless of how my parents and teachers endeavoured to build me up. I thank God that no matter how terrible I felt, I chose to treat my tormentors with kindness, regardless of their treatment of me. This wasn’t easy, but I tried to make sure that I didn’t judge them for their behaviour, but showed them grace and kindness. One never knows what others are struggling with in their own lives and the demons they face. I can now look back and know that I am enough! Here are the lessons I took from my experiences: 1. No one is perfect 2. Comparing yourself to others is fruitless 3. Hurt people hurt people 4. Someone else’s actions should not determine my own 5. Your experience can either make you bitter or better; the choice is yours 6. We can all make an impact, but it’s up to us whether it’s positive or negative 7. In this world where we can be anything, it’s best to choose to be kind
In my last permanent corporate role, I was fully-invested in what I did and the company I worked for. The team I was part of was like a family and it was great belonging to such a synergistic group of people, but it didn’t last. In 2018, after working there for 7 years, I lost my job due to corporate restructuring. I recognized that my time at that company had come to an end because God’s
I’ve felt a calling from God to entrepreneurship for the longest time, but I resisted because I was afraid to fail as I had no clue where to begin; plus, what I knew of success did not include becoming an entrepreneur!

purpose for me being there had been fulfilled. This would’ve been the perfect segue to jump into entrepreneurship, but I was still afraid! After taking some time to focus on my kids and husband, I continued to look for my next corporate home, filling different temporary positions from time to time. Fast forward to March 2020, when the pandemic hit. I was working as a temp when the company I was at had to close their office and take everything online. Unfortunately, as I wasn’t permanently employed by them, this couldn’t include me and I once again lost my job. I saw it as a blessing, though, because schools were also closed and my kids had to attend virtual school; thank God I was home and could help them through that experience! It was during that time when a friend reached out to me, asking what kind of work I was currently doing. I told her I was betwixt and between looking for work and starting something on my own and that my fear of failure was inhibiting 42

My self-esteem was incredibly poor, but because of my will power and divine help, I came through my school years with ok grades. After I left primary-school, I worked a couple of low wage jobs. My self-esteem was still very low, so I didn’t believe I would amount to anything special, but I had the ability to make people smile and be happy, so for many years I worked with sales and my fighter-mentality made me always be in competition with myself to do my best! When I was 20 in 1998, I completed a Beautician degree but continued working with sales afterwards. It’s safe to say that through my 20s I enjoyed my youth. I partied and had fun, but my poor self-esteem and that I constantly didn’t believe in my ability’s made me have a self-destructive behavior! Eventually the "party" ended when I was 29 in 2007! I have traveled over 2 million miles in my career, coaching, nudging, teaching, influencing, laughing with, learning from and ultimately helping top executives and the companies they lead to grow, increase value, innovate, and be better versions of themselves. My clients are leaders of every stripe: smart, confident, committed, and endlessly fascinating people. As I have helped them, they have taught me. They have all been important partners in my life and work to help me sharpen my saw and hone my business and consulting tradecraft. I dislike neck ties. I do however, like casual, comfortable jeans. I eschew the formal and rigid for the casual, creative but classic. Creativity, design thinking and innovation is my stock-in-trade and now after 30-plus years of corporate consulting many call me the consultant’s consultant; teaching others to tap into the well of their imagination, to inspire and empower them to grow and reshape their businesses. I like writing, have written several books on creativity and innovation. I wanted to distill my experiences and hopefully help others to improve their lives and businesses. Stimulated! has been so well received by so many. And while I’m grateful for the praise and awards it’s received, I’m deeply gratified that is has inspired people to find better solutions, and improve their lives and businesses. As much as I like writing, I LOVE to interact with clients personally in my seminars, classes and oneon-one training. I feel more comfortable when I can speak to people directly and teach them new concepts and help them unlock their own inner genius. On a more personal note, only a few people know that I could have been a rockstar; I have everything I need except for talent, skill or any real musical ability. That said, I know a few riffs on guitar: Smoke on The Water, Walk This Way and Over the Hills and Far Away (to name a few) otherwise, the guitar on my podcast Consulting Unplugged is mostly for show. (Shameless Brag Warning: I wrote a rock ballad for my beautiful wife based on a poem I wrote for her years ago inspired by our first plane ride together.) After finishing up my next book on consulting, I will likely write a book about the “love of work” and how if
your work does not appeal to you romantically, then you are most definitely going to get bored or it will get bored with you - in short do what you love, love what you do.
