DEAR CHAMPIONS!

YOU ARE ENOUGH!

So, stop apologizing for being you! If your actions or words have not harmed anyone, why are you apologizing? Others don’t know your story or where you’ve come from. They don’t need to change you and you don’t need to change for them. No one will ever really change until they want to or until they are ready to. So do not apologize for who you are. You have been put on this earth to walk on solid ground, not on eggshells.

Your story is your strength. Be proud of who you are and be yourself, unapologetically. Don’t hesitate. Don’t fumble your words. Don’t hold back. Your words do not have to be perfection—they need only say what you want. Sometimes silence can hurt just as much as words spoken. Get through the quiet and the sound. Live your life and don’t stop trying until both words and silence feel like a breath of fresh air.

Remember, you were “fearfully and wonderfully made” Ps. 139:14. So, go and celebrate you! Stay focused! Stay brilliant.

COVER STORY

MANNY CABO

My story actually began where it almost didn’t begin. Seriously – I almost didn’t make it into this world. The doctors saw complications in my Mother’s pregnancy and actually suggested that the pregnancy be terminated. But my parents were adamant about not considering that as an option, and so here I am– a lucky underdog from the beginning.

Definitely the classically overactive young boy, my family allowed me great outlets to channel my energy and help me focus. It was my parents who first introduced me to a diverse and eclectic spectrum of music. They owned a Grundig Stereo, one of the higherend record players at the time. I was always either listening to and learning about music or riding my bike to channel my need for activity. This background has definitely served me well. Today, I have boundless energy and use it to attend to all I need to do to support my multi-layered Brand. I’m a professional musical artist, a professional photographer (often photographing my artistic peers, fashion models, etc.), an actor, an author waiting for publication, a Podcast host (Mojo for Musicians is in the top one percent of “Best musical interview podcasts in the world”), a husband and a father. Every day, I practice the

attitude of gratitude to be able to pursue my passions and talents. It’s been a hard year for me — I lost my father to Covid and also much of my home and 25 years’ worth of my equipment and livelihood to Hurricane Ida. But always feeling fortunate and humble has helped me be resilient. Although I miss my father every day, life is back on track and moving forward. My various struggles have been so much a part of my journey. These experiences have shaped my character and have helped get me where I am today in my professional and personal pursuits, I have a better understanding of how to best engage with my work, my mentors, peers, and clients. That’s why I had to include so much about my hardships in answering the previous question on how I got to where I am today!

The “smooth road” definitely has never described my path, but I enjoy rising to each and every challenge put before me. I remain inspired and I inspire others while doing what I do.

My Brand is multi-layered

— I’m a true creative. As I mentioned before, I’m a photographer, musical and Voice over artist, podcast host, actor, author, and family man.

I think what I’m known for most and what sets me apart is always delivering my authentic self in all my creativity, while at the same time also empowering and building the brands of my fellow artists within my entertainment ecosystem.

I accomplish this through my photography, through my podcast where I educate, entertain and empower, and through my artistry. I always support my fellow musicians, songwriters, and artists who share my journeys.

I believe my superpowers are my resilience and being a good teacher –because I’m also always a dedicated student. I learn from everyone who I engage within every part of my life. I’m most proud of how I’m viewed by my mentors, counterparts, peers, and clients. I also appreciate the validation of a few awards I’ve been honored to receive — for my artistry, my photography, and my podcast.

I think if you’re the smartest person in the room, you need to help teach and inspire the others in that room.

Yet this concept is a double-sided coin because

many times if you’re the smartest person in the room, you need to leave that room and go where you can grow and expand, learning the wisdom that others are gracious enough to share, and then carrying that forward. My advice for finding a mentor and networking, in general, is to always talk to whomever you can, and listen– really listen — to what they have to say with an open mind that is ready to learn. Always offer guidance where and when you can to help others on their creative and professional journeys, as well.

I relish the networking process and truly enjoy both learning and teaching. My authenticity shows through in all my dealings, and I feel this characteristic is a very important calling card.

CHRISTOPHER SHERWIN

I was born and raised in Chicago, where I spent an ordinary childhood growing up in the middle of the city with my brother and my two sisters. Yes, we were a numerous bunch to take care of, and for a middle-class household like ours, this did not come without its challenges for my parents. My Dad was a teacher and my Mom was a nurse, so that made for quite a tight budget. They would work swing shifts to make sure that at least one of them was at the house taking care of us most of the time, and we would spend time with our loving grandparents when none of them could manage to be around. As you can already tell, my parents were hard workers and always made a sacrifice to give us every opportunity in life. Their committed and impeccable work ethic left an imprint in me and made me learn from an early age that hard work and dedication are two important values if you want to achieve things in life. Making sure that we received a proper education was also important to them, and they always pushed us to understand this. During my adolescence and my early youth, I attended a Catholic elementary school, a Catholic all-boys high school, and a Lutheran University, where I managed to graduate with two degrees in only 3.5 years. Right after that, and following my parents’ education-oriented influence, I went on to immediately start my MBA, which I completed in a very short time as well. After these intensive formative years, I was ready to take on the challenge of starting my professional career. I started working in Finance and Accounting, where I successfully earned my stripes by increasing

revenue while saving the company millions of dollars annually with the implementation of sales cycle strategies. This earned me several promotions

with my entire life ahead of me. But, there was something that was always in the back of my mind. Ever since I can remember, I have always had a fervent desire to become a police officer. Despite the fact that I had managed to succeed at another career, I always kept entertaining the idea of pursuing this lifelong dream of mine, but I knew that it would go against what my family had wished for me and what they had always wanted to see me accomplish. That’s when I started realizing that, throughout my life journey, worrying about what others might think of me had become a constant struggle that was frequently putting me in conflict with myself, and what I truly wanted to become in life. That was until one day, back in 2000, everything changed when suddenly a domestic incident broke out at the office, but the police showed up and handled the call with the utmost professionalism. I couldn’t help but notice how they genuinely showed their vocation of service by caring for and helping the victim while maintaining a safe environment. That very day, I felt the call inside of me, and finally made the decision to become a police officer. I was at a moment in my life when I knew that my wife and my two girls would not have to go through the financial struggles I did when I was young, so I could finally pursue this personal and professional goal with decisiveness and peace of mind. That’s how my two-decade long law enforcement career started from square one, and I enjoyed every minute of an incredible journey that allowed

me to protect local citizens in a 32 square-mile area of Illinois.

I discovered that, just as I imagined, this is a high-risk job that includes risky operations. I participated in hundreds of drug investigations and search warrants, and have indicted over 100 criminals, halting illegal activities based on available evidence. I spent 17 years directing the deployment of a K-9 unit team, and during this time I also worked in private security to make some extra money. This experience led me to realize that I could actually use all my business expertise to take care of those clients with better and more efficient security services. So, I decided to step up and take matters into my own hands by founding my own company: Ultimate Security and Investigations of America, also known as USIA SECURITY.

In the last few years of my law enforcement career, there were a number of events across our country that generated extreme divisiveness between the police

and the civilians we swore to protect. During these times, I couldn’t help but feel that there were too many people on both sides being hurt or killed as a result of this divide.

That was when I decided to start 3 Cops Talk, a podcast where we have long-format conversations and discussions meant to put the spotlight on the many challenges that civilians, law enforcement, and security forces must face on a daily basis in order to generate a positive dialogue that helps mend this relationship that I have dedicated my entire life to nurture.

After all the experiences I have gone through, if there is one piece of advice I can give, it is that a man can only fail when he stops going after his dreams and defending his convictions. Today, I have finally understood that as crazy and disruptive as they may seem, our passions are totally worth pursuing, and we shall live and die trying to keep that inner fire alive.

Saturated with loneliness, I asked “What reason is there for me to continue to live?”

MOZA

Here I was, teetering on the edge of a cliff. The horizon in front of me was black-inked dark. One step forward, I would fall into the darkness.

I turned around, no one was there. Saturated with loneliness, I asked, “What reason is there for me to continue to live?” No family, no children, no dog, no cat...it seemed as though there was nothing.

My marriage ended at the same time my father died. Profusely bleeding from these two deep wounds, I moved to another state, as far as I could, to run away from my pain. Then I met a great man. My heart just started to heal. Shortly after, he died of cancer.

Suddenly, I saw a vision in my imagination of my mother and father. My parents grew up during the Vietnam war. There was zero opportunity for their life advancement. Limited

resources. Uncertainty. Fear. Insecurity. The war ended, although living and working in a communist country, they gave me the best education and the best 15 years of ballet dancing and performing. All of a sudden, I asked myself, “Did they ever have a chance to live their dreams?” I can’t die now. I need to take responsibility for continuing my father’s legacy and caring for my mother. Some immigrants come to the United States with their families. Some others come to join their family members. I was alone. My parents worked very hard to send me to the United States for better opportunities and to have what they didn’t have: human rights.

I took 6 courses per semester, worked full-time, and maintained my A grading in college while paid in full my tuition and living expenses. Never enough foods or clothes. The only thing I had was my determination. Nothing else!

Today, I have a Masters degree in Business Administration, a Licensed Registered Nurse, Best-selling co-author, a world traveler and speaker, and a multi-business owner.

Everyone tells you that you either have a successful career, or a happy personal life. I’m telling you that you can have it all.

Take actions - massive actions

The difference between a dream and reality is taking actions. Start with your goal, then take the first step toward achieving that goal.

People who don’t take action usually don’t because they are not passionate enough about their dreams. John Maxwell said “dream is free, but the journey is not.”

I want to show you what needs to be done to get you excited about life again. When implemented correctly, you will eliminate frustration, toxins, and stressors from your life. We all know stress is the first cause of heart attack and aging. Ladies, we do not want that!

Network with like-minded people

Surround yourself with like-

minded people. You’re like a tree that needs soil and water and a healthy environment to promote growth. If you want to grow to the next level, get yourself to where the light is. Be selective, your time is precious. I’m not telling you to get rid of your friends, but you can spend less time with them if they are not supportive of your dreams.

Elena Cardone said: Don’t share your big dreams with small minds. When people give you their advice, do they have your best interest at heart?

Closing

I have worked more than 10 years as a registered nurse taking care of patients from all walks of life. Some of my patients can’t make it to the other side. In their conversations, nine out of 10 times, were about regrets. Every day, I look into their eyes while listening to what they share with me about what they could have done differently... if only they had more time.

Don’t make that mistake. The time to live is now. You can always make more money, but you cannot make more time. Life is a gift. It’s your choice, in this one and only life, to either be a shiny pearl or a grain of sand in the ocean. I hope you choose to live the super life that you deserve. Together, we declare that living our best life is our birthright, not an option.

Or does their advice stem from their own beliefs and failure? Which has nothing to do with you and your potential. Every successful person has multiple coaches and mentors. The right person can help you to stay more disciplined, not just to perform at a normal capacity, but to reach your true potential.

People who are passionate about their dreams are willing to buy time to get there without wasting time figuring it all out on their own. If there’s a way to compress time, knowledge, and wisdom to achieve what we want sooner, why don’t we do it?

My name is Moza And I am sending you so much love!

TAKE YOUR PURPOSE OFF

By PROPHETESS PSALMIST NATASHA JONES

When you have been born with so much creativity, what do you do? What’s priority? What’s the purpose? What’s the provision? What’s a part of God’s plan and will? Whew! This pretty much sums up my identity. I am prophetess Natasha Jones, but I am a humble servant first. I’ve been broken by tradition and mute for 13 years of my life. I had many people tell me what my purpose should be, what love should be, what God’s will for my life is, what my priority should be but never reflected the fruit of it all.

God has allowed me to be hurt, rejected, abandoned, and persecuted to “Help Me Teach Me”. My greatest teacher throughout my entire life has been God’s unending love for me and the experience from it all. His grace, mercy, presence, and forgiveness carried me through all adversity that I have ever faced. When I finally got to the age of maturation to where I received God’s gift of salvation and the holy ghost, I then prayed for God to help me unlearn tradition so that I can learn what a real relationship with him consists of. A relationship with a real king is priceless.

We must always remember in learning lessons and growing from them. We must understand that everything that we go through is a process. Before that to the product which is us in human formality right here on earth in the image of God. So, as I journeyed through life, God began to give me this empowering message that I can share with you today. He softly spoke

THE HANGER

to me in my darkest moments these words, “Take Your Purpose Off the Hanger.” That’s when I knew, with tears flowing down my face like rivers of living waters, that I could, would and must really trust him if I wanted to walk out my purpose effectively here on earth.

I’m not trying to sound cliché with things that most traditional Christians may say as a “feel -good message,” and I’m not telling you something that I have not experienced. There have been many times where I had to trust God totally, even when I could never trace him. I have been through the fire. I know how it feels to be “Refined Under Prophetic Pressure” and come out smoke- free from the pit to the promise. If you have gone through a devastating loss in your life, I want you to know that I’ve been there too.

I

will experience many more losses, but by God’s grace, love and strength I will make it through them. If you are going through financial troubles, I want you to know that there was a time not too long ago in my prophetic walk with God, I literally had nothing but my faith. I had to take my purpose off the hanger and learn that there is a blessing in every lesson, and I’m glad that I learned them all as I continue to grow in my faith and walk with my father. If you have ever been disappointed, I want you to know that I’ve learned lessons of growth, I’ve made mistakes, bad choices and been disappointed many times in my faith walk with God.

I f you have a broken heart right now, I want you to know that I know oh too well of how it feels to be broken-hearted to find out later that I was being prophetically crushed for purpose. I know how it feels to have a contrite heart and a broken spirit. Psalms 34:18 declares that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” It does not always feel like that, doesn’t it? Sometimes we think God is absent as if he has turned his back on us.

www.IPResilienceGlobal.com IP RESILENCE GLOBAL MAGAZINE 16 Nov - Dec 2022 |

Iremember after losing my son and burying him days later, I could literally hear the door closing on my heart and the lock being double bolted in my life. It was nobody but me and God. I cried out often, “God,why me?’, “God, where are you?’, “God don’t be too far from me, I need to hear from you and feel you!? “How long will you hold back from helping me and answering me?” This is where I began to let my human experience and emotions get the best of me.

Real hurt, heartbreak, loneliness, rejection, abandonment, pain, and agony filled my cup of “God, I’m Tired.” So, ask yourself today, “When have you felt God near to you the most?” For me, it was not in the high happiness and joy roller coasters. It was in the broken, no sense of direction, feeling no reason to live anymore moments when I felt God more than ever. In the moments when no one else was there and the times when my world was falling apart. God wrapped me in a season of a shut-in and a shut up!

He said to me, “People will not get the glory and the pleasure of speaking saying if it was not for them. You would not have, because I am going to train you in bootcamp myself.” I am going to love the hell out of you and love you back to that place of wholeness because that is where I called you, and that’s when brokenness broke you when you were whole. Right there at those dark moments is when God’s glory, peace, light, love, and joy showed upright in the middle of my broken, contrite spirit and heart.

He then whispered to me, “I’m here, I love you and will never leave you. I’ve been carrying you the entire time and wrapped your struggles with my strength. The pains I felt when my purpose was just hanging there full of life but not activated finally shifted on a Thursday afternoon after I was done working out. Those just don’t know moments were intense, but somehow my God was the peace that catapulted and surpassed all that I was feeling. He encouraged my pain and affirmed to me that my pain can’t cut me off from him.

Your story may be different, and your lesson may be different, but I guarantee they both are relatable. Psalms 147, verse 3 declares, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. In Psalms 51, verse 17, I found myself knowing that God will not despise my broken spirit and contrite heart. Wow! How powerful is that?” So, where is God? you may be asking in your own lessons and trying times of “I Don’t Know.” Isaiah 57, verse 15, has a wonderful message response of hope.

“I live on high in holiness and with the crushed and lowly reviving the spirit of the lowly, reviving the heart of those who have been crushed. Now that’s a great place right there to stop during this read to lift your hands and just give god glory for “The Reviving Season.” So, is God up there being worshipped by the heavenly host, absolutely. He is omnipresent, so stop allowing people to make you feel worthless and make you feel that God isn’t with you when you are in your crushing seasons. If you need an example of God being near the broken-hearted Jesus is that example.

When he began his ministry, he knew God sent him to bind up the broken-

hearted. I am encouraged in all the lessons that I have learned and now understand as to why I had to take my purpose off the hanger. We are living in the year of the Lord’s favor. Jesus came to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor upon us. In this season during COVID-19, we have more resources for hope, faith, fruitfulness, and prosperity than we acknowledge.

God is doing what he has always been doing, and that is continually bringing us the message of “Good News,” even in a fiery storm. So, what is God doing in this new normal season? He is working to proclaim the good news, according to Isaiah 61 vs. 1 through 3. When you know who you are, how you were chosen and prepared to be, then you will know why you are and were purposely sent.

The only way people will know you is whether you have obeyed and completed the missions of your assignments in your “God I Just Don’t Know Seasons.” If you don’t obey your assignments, then he will not make your name great. Mark 8, verses 34 through 38,declares “And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

God wants to do something in your life, and in mine as well through his son be, he chose, prepared, and sent him to us who have been, and some are still are broken hearted. I learned right away that if he wanted to succeed, he’d have to take his career into his own hands.

I have been in the car business since December 2010. With no knowledge about selling cars, He sold two cars his first day. Basically, I was told this is a computer, that’s a lot, and this program is called CRM. Wow, great training! But I learned that this is how they train employees in the car business.

Months later, the GM took a manager’s turn for me and basically told the customer to get out of his dealership after the customer asked if we would pay for the TTL. I approached the finance manager and told him if the GM was going to continue to insult his customers and run them out the door, I couldn’t work there anymore. I asked for his advice, and this is what he told me: Start closing your own deals, watch videos, read books, do something on your own to make more sales. Then from January 2011 to December 2011, I sold 196 vehicles and was named #1 sales person in the auto group. All my sales came from the internet. A year later, I was named #1 again, selling 288 units and beating the #2 sales person by 60 units. This happened one more time, and I was asked to become a manager and teach others what I had learned on my own by watching professionals like Grant Cardone on how to overcome objections; Steve Richards on presenting numbers and overcoming the trade rebuttal; Jim Ziegler on managing; and Sean Bradley on using the internet and BDC. I had turned numbers around at the dealership by focusing on volume and gross, instead of one or the other.

WILL RAMSEY

An Excerpt from The Book: God’s Wisdom is amazing, God put Brock in our home after all this happened in the timing that was needed. We moved back to Ohio from Iowa and thought that Brock would move right in with us we thought there would be no issues. Well, there were and when we came back, He didn’t. I thought Julie was going to lose her mind because that was one of the biggest reasons we came back. God knew though. Brock moved back in with his uncle and what looked like a disaster turned out to be the wisest choice. Brock reached out to us wanting to move in with us.

I told him he could but the only thing he had to do was go to church. He didn’t have to pay rent; he didn’t have to buy food. We take care of everything just go to church. He moved in and started going that was in Dec 2012. January 20 th , 2013, Brock Gave his life to Jesus. It was amazing. He had gone to church that day and at the end was trying to talk to the pastor but couldn’t get close because he was busy. We went Home and started watching the playoffs. It was conference championship Sunday for the NFL, The NFC was on first, the game was over, and we were getting ready to turn to the next game and Brock asked if we could talk. I said sure. He said I want to give my life to Jesus. I shut the TV off, I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself we talked, and we prayed, and he gave his heart to Jesus right there in the living room.

If Brock had moved in when we wanted him to it would have been forced and it would have been our plan not God’s plan. I’m not saying that God couldn’t have used that plan, but it wouldn’t have gone as well as Gods plan. Brock had almost died months earlier as an atheist, no he was following Jesus and trying to learn as much as he could. He also wanted to find a rehab program that he could get into I was just trying to help him as much as I could. This was a new facet of addiction with which I hadn’t dealt. This was my son and I wanted to help him get through what was going on. The problem was he wanted to quit but he was doing it to please people instead of doing it for himself. I didn’t know that I thought it was him that wanted to get clean. He went through a program, and we thought it worked the problem is he went to other things away from the drugs, but he thought he could drink and be ok. If you are an addict and they tell you that you can’t do any substance then believe it, you can’t. Brock never truly got clean in 2013 because of that. Then he was faced with a massive loss His mother died in a car accident in a head on collision 5 days before Christmas and that is when Brock graduated to heroin. He didn’t deal with the loss of his mother

well. We all went to the funeral, and he stayed up with friends and used. He came back down to the area and disappeared for 2 weeks. We thought he was staying with friends, and he was staying in a motel using.

Wisdom over Want

Many times, what we want and what is wise are two different things, I wanted Brock to live with us and to get clean, that’s what I wanted. The issue is that’s not what was wise. Everything became a cycle at this point he would live with us for a little while and what we didn’t know is that he was going to friends’ houses and using and coming back the next day afterwards. We were enabling him, weren’t charging him any rent and he had enough money to do what he wanted. We thought we were helping him, and we were hurting him. The enemy was attacking our family through Brock he was trying to put another wedge between us, but the good news is we had the love of Jesus that was present. God was preparing us through all the frustration and the times. Brock would go and stay with a friend and we were not certain what he was doing. Through the frustration of knowing he was using but not being able to prove it without being the tyrannical dad that I was when I was younger. It was a double-edged sword I wanted to stay on top of him and make sure that he wasn’t using but he was a grown man and that wasn’t what he would respond too. God was grooming me; He was getting me ready for what was coming. He knew what I was going to face through all the different things that Brock did. This beast of addiction that Brock was dealing with was overwhelming, we had no idea the extent that it went to how deep it truly infiltrated his body and his mind. He would be clean for a little while and then he would fall again. We would celebrate a win and then be right back where we started from.

GOD WAS GROOMING ME

God’s understanding

I’m telling all this because it all comes to a head, there were so many different things that happened and so many things that I could tell you about that you could ask how you could even deal with all of it. The love of a father for his son is how you deal with it. God loves us unconditionally and we must bring our trials and sins to Him and ask for forgiveness of the

Father. That’s what Brock would do, and I was trying to show the same love and compassion that God shows us. Now let’s not get it twisted I’m not comparing myself to God, I’m saying that I wanted to show the love of God through me as a loving father, Brock at the time was exceptionally good at taking advantage of that. So, at this point I should get to the part that God was getting me ready for. I should tell you what it was that he was preparing me for. We’ve established that Brock addiction controlled him more than he controlled it. We’ve established that he would stay clean for a brief time and then relapse well this cycle went on for quite a while. The last time this happened in my house was final preparation for what was to come. It was 2017, Brock had come home from work and had just gotten done taking a shower. He told Julie and I that he was going to bed. We said good night and that we loved him. Julie and I were watching tv and suddenly she asked me unexpectedly “What’s that noise?” I said what noise? she said she wasn’t certain but that I should go check on Brock when I got up to go, she dialed 911 I didn’t know it she had a feeling something was wrong. I paused the tv and walked halfway down the basement steps so I could see into Brocks room. It looked like he was asleep. I called his name he didn’t react; I called his name again he still didn’t react. I used my dad voice which should have made him jump out of his skin. He didn’t move. I ran down the rest of the stairs and got to him he was blue couldn’t breathe and was turning gray.

I put him on the floor and started smacking him on the chest trying to get him to wake up screaming his name. By this time, a Sheriff had shown up and was there. When he came down the stairs by the grace of God Brock woke up. No Narcan and no Emt’s at that point. Brock woke up and didn’t know what

had even happened. See that’s the problem with overdoses, the overdoser has no idea what’s going on. The overdosee’s are going through hell. They took him to the hospital and kept him for 3 hours at that point when I picked him up it was 3 am. I told him he had to go back to rehab and to be ready when I got home from work. I took him back to a program he had been in before, he didn’t last two days. He called asking to come home. I refused

often and talked regularly. He met a girl named Robyn and they started getting serious. He called me and let me know he was moving to Lancaster Oh to be with Robyn and that he was going to continue o go to meetings and stay sober. By this time, it was 2018 going in to 2019 Brock seemed to be doing all the right things he messaged me to let me know I was going to be grandpa again and that the baby was going to be do around Nov. I was extremely excited Brock had a good Job and it Looked like things were going well.

Wisdom No one Want’s

and he hung up on me. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Imagine telling your child they were no longer welcome in your home. At that point Brock went dark for two or three weeks. Then as I’m picking up my mother from the hospital from a heart procedure, I get a call from a person I do not know saying that Brock Is in the hospital. He overdosed again and almost died again and that he had to be Nar canned six times. The guy assured me he was ok asked me if Brock could call me after he got settled in the rehab facility that they were taking him too. I told him yes.

THE FINAL PREPARATION

Brock stayed in that facility for a year they helped him get a job and an apartment and he was doing well we saw each other

What I didn’t know is that in December Brock relapsed and fell off the wagon. It caused a huge problem with Robyn and Brock, and she let him know that if he couldn’t get it back together then they were done. Brock never really dealt with adversity well. He decided to change things around so that if he had to go, he didn’t have to worry about it. He changed his life insurance to me if something happened and I didn’t even know that he had it. That was in the beginning of January 2020. It was all coming to a head, and we had no idea what was about to happen that would change all our lives forever.

Tuesday February 11 th , 2020 is a day that will be burned in my mind till I go meet Jesus. I went to work as normal I worked in the car business, so I was at the dealership it was 2:15 Robyn messaged me and said she needed me to call her. I wasn’t certain what was going on at that point. Brock had been trustworthy up to that point, so it was very unusual for her to reach out to me about him. I called he immediately and got the shock of my life. She answered and I heard a Robyn that I had never heard before, she was normally very calm and quiet. When she answered there was a concern and a shaking in her voice that I had never heard before. She let

me know that she hadn’t heard from Brock since 10 pm the night before and that she had called his motel and they said the police were there investigating. She had their number to the officers on the scene and she asked me to call them as they would not tell her anything because her and rock were not married. I quickly dialed the number not certain of what I would hear but already knowing deep down what it was going to be.

THE FINAL PREPARATION

This is where things slow down, the police officer

today. When I heard those words, I was in shock, I couldn’t speak I couldn’t think I fell on my knees on the floor next to the sales desk in the dealership and screamed. My heart had been ripped out I couldn’t breathe I had one thousand thoughts running through my mind all at the same time. Was he alone? who gave the stuff to him? How did he die? All these questions and zero answers. How Could this even happen? I went 10 months in the deepest darkest depression a person could deal with. I was putting on a happy face on the outside but dark on the inside. That’s when in the last week of 2020 God told me it was time. Time to produce

me. The definition has been refined over the last 29

FRANCIS JEAN GEISTWALD

My uncle recently asked me what I want to do with my life. I shrugged and said “I suppose I could be a manager at an office supply store.” He stopped me. “Be honest. What end goal will make you happy- regardless of chance or expectations placed on you?” I sighed and bashfully told him, “I know it’s unrealistic, but I’ve always wanted to be an actor.” “Unrealistic?” He asked. “What? Do actors not exist?”

Seven years ago, I let five words crush a lifelong dream: “You are not good enough.” For seven years that was the echo in my thoughts that bounced around every time I stepped on a stage. I was defeated, embarrassed, and ashamed… but no matter how hard I tried, I kept finding myself in front of an audience. Performing was like trance I couldn’t break, I couldn’t keep myself away. My uncle’s words that day ignited something in me that I hadn’t seen since I was eight screaming the theme song to Wizards of Waverly Place and scheming myself into the script, practicing my lines. They say that those who are crazy enough to think they can change

world are the ones who do. For me, I know at this point that this dream isn’t something I can throw away. Even if I’m 64 by the time I get my big break, I will not give up again. Even if I post a thousand YouTube videos and never breach a thousand views, I will still sit down in front of my tripod and hit record. I’ve never found something that makes me feel the way that filming does. A day on set can be the most exhausting, frustrating, and tedious day of the month. After, waiting for the premiere sitting at home agonizing over every facial tick, overthinking the continuity, rehashing lines for a better delivery that will never see the light of day. The day comes when all the hard work folds together at the film’s release: the story is told, the message is heard. Telling a story is more than words and grammar and structure, it’s about feeling something. Telling a story is about connecting to an audience, connecting such a deep part of one’s soul with another. In Les Misérables when Fantine
