SIR JOHN SHIN

IP RESILENCE GLOBAL MAGAZINE

DEAR CHAMPIONS! YOU ARE ENOUGH! So, stop apologizing for being you! If your actions or words have not harmed anyone, why are you apologizing? Others don’t know your story or where you’ve come from. They don’t need to change you and you don’t need to change for them. No one will ever really change until they want to or until they are ready to. So do not apologize for who you are. You have been put on this earth to walk on solid ground, not on eggshells. Your story is your strength. Be proud of who you are and be yourself, unapologetically. Don’t hesitate. Don’t fumble your words. Don’t hold back. Your words do not have to be perfection—they need only say what you want. Sometimes silence can hurt just as much as words spoken. Get through the quiet and the sound. Live your life and don’t stop trying until both words and silence feel like a breath of fresh air. Remember, you were “fearfully

and wonderfully made” Ps. 139:14. So, go and celebrate you! Stay focused! Stay brilliant.

DON SEVCIK In 2007, entrepreneur and author Don Sevcik had a problem. While working a day job at a Fortune 500 company, he decided to branch out and help more people. With a bachelors degree in math, he decided to start tutoring students in math. One student turned into two. Two students turned into four. And pretty soon, Don ran out of hours in the day. With a day job and a family, he couldn’t scale. But he didn’t want to stop tutoring, so he did some thinking. And he asked, “How can I help more people in math with limited hours in the day?”

www.IPResilienceGlobal.com

He found his answer at his day job. While building a pension spreadsheet for a team in India, a few of his coworkers asked for details on calculations. Instead of writing a manual, Don built the math work into the Excel spreadsheet as numbers were changed. When his coworkers saw this, they instantly understood the pension math. And that’s when the lightbulb went off. Why couldn’t the same be done for math problems? And that’s how the idea for MathCelebrity was born in July 2007. Don decided to take all his math knowledge and expertise on algorithms and create a math tutoring website. But instead of a boring textbook or limited examples, Don wanted to build something different. So Don got to work in his basement building a unique math

tutoring website. First, it did simple calculations. Next, he expanded to harder subjects like Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics. Over time, the website slowly grew and word got around. But then in 2013, students asked him for more. Instead of searching for a calculator, why couldn’t they just type in math problems directly into a search box like Google? And so the next phase began. Don dedicated his time to building a website where a student could type a math problem into a search box, and have the step by step math and answer display instantly. After refining the algorithm, Don claimed the title of the fastest math tutor on the planet. Because the average response time for a student to get step by step math help after typing a problem in ⅓ of one second. That’s the time it takes to blink your eyes. And that’s how the nickname “Google for Math” came to be. This website eliminates the hassle of in person tutoring, scheduling conflicts, and travel. You get instant, step by step math help from the comfort of your own home.

MathCelebrity covers 25 subjects from 3rd grade to college. MathCelebrity shaves your homework time down from hours to minutes. And parents loved it too, because it help them relearn math while teaching their kids without sifting through hundreds of pages of math textbooks. Don also built side by side comparisons of various ways to solve the same problem using the traditional math and Common Core. The solutions have easy to follow explanations with step by step instructions that any parent or student can follow. Using the principles of simplicity and speed, MathCelebrity exploded in popularity. Don grew the website to 7.2 million visitors from 235 countries in 2021. And during 2021, those visitors ran a mind boggling 110,000,000 math problems! And it does all of this with zero tutors or textbooks. Instead, just like Google, it uses powerful algorithms to figure out math problems and lay out simple, step by step solutions for millions of parents and students around the world. MathCelebrity won a Top 100 homeschool website and has been featured on media such as ABC, NBC, and Fox. Don took this success and built a podcast to help college bound students and their parents. He hosts a podcast called College Prep Confidential. The podcast is dedicated to empowering college students and giving them the elite tools they need to get accepted to their dream university. Don is also a frequent guest on other podcasts sharing knowledge about SEO, algorithms, and mindset as well as his experience working at Fortune 500 companies and startups. Don took his knowledge of algorithms and SEO and wrote a few books and earned the title of a bestselling author.

step blueprint for how he got 7.2 million visitors using SEO strategies without spending a dime on traffic. This book opened up consulting opportunities for Don to take the SEO strategies he learned and help other businesses explode their SEO traffic. Don wrote another book called Connection Magnet, which lays out the blueprint for how he built a following of 30,000 people on LinkedIn. He did this without spending money on paid ads or promotions. He did it with a unique system called 4P. This combines writing, a raw personality, and promotion principles to magnetically attract a large following.

GOD’S MASTERPIECE: A STORY OF FAITH, HOPE & HEALING

KELLY WHEELER Every person has a destiny, a God-planted seed that must be watered with love and manifested in the world. This is true for every human life, including mine. Though I was born with an unknown genetic syndrome and facial malformations, the Lord poured his grace, love, and light into my soul, and his glory created beauty in my life.

In a moment of heartache, my father opened his Bible searching for answers. He read John 9:1-2 NIV, in which a man was born blind. The disciples asked Jesus, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be

I was born with birth defects. The most obvious were facial differences that included head indentations, wide-set, slanted eyes, droopy eyelids, a bridgeless nose, and lips that reached beyond their boundaries. I was also visually and hearing-impaired because of my syndrome. From the day I was born, doctors worked to categorize and diagnose me with a specific genetic syndrome, but after conducting a battery of tests, they were unable to find any genetic mutations to provide an official diagnosis. The geneticists at Baylor College of Medicine determined that my syndrome of birth defects was unknown. Like other parents of special needs children, my parents grappled to understand the

With these positive improvements, my parents scheduled me for an updated evaluation at the center. When it was time for the results, the entire team sat with my parents. They could not believe it. With smiles on their faces, the medical team informed my parents I was functioning at a normal developmental level. God did the impossible. He healed my mind, and his healing power was evident to my parents, the medical staff, our church, and everyone who heard my story. This was the first major miracle Jesus performed in my life, and it was glorious.

me to the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics in Houston, Texas for an evaluation. The results were devastating. Doctors informed my parents I was mentally challenged and needed to attend a special school to receive developmental therapies. They told them I would never function at a normal cognitive level. As a result, my parents placed my name on a waiting list for a school for the mentally challenged. The news crushed my parents’ hopes for me. What kind of life would I live? What types of challenges would I face? My family and church prayed. Family friends added my name to their prayer lists. Then, a miracle happened. I began improving. In a short time, I was speaking, putting puzzles together, and playing ball with my parents.

The second miracle occurred when I began seeing a new pediatrician at the age of five. For the first several years of my life, no doctor could offer hope that my facial malformations could be corrected. However, my new pediatrician evaluated and referred me to a plastic surgery group in Houston, Texas. They brought Dr. Paul Tessier, a surgical pioneer, from Paris to Houston to operate on children who needed facial reconstruction. Dr. Tessier met with me and determined I was a suitable candidate for craniofacial surgery. Craniofacial surgery is the reconstruction of bones and soft tissue defects of the face and top of the head. In a single meeting with Dr. Tessier, my life changed, and our family was hopeful I could have a normal face. For the next few years, Dr. Tessier waited for my bones to grow enough for him to perform the operation. He saw me every year and carefully planned every aspect of my future surgery. In October of 1988, at the age of nine, the day finally arrived when Dr. Tessier declared I was ready to undergo facial reconstruction. In a 6-hour surgery, he repaired my face with the skill of an expert craftsman creating a work of art. When I awoke from surgery, I was swollen and bandaged, but I had a brand-new face. During my childhood and teen years, I endured seven plastic and reconstructive surgeries. Throughout my medical journey, Jesus was with me, and his miracle-working power May - Jul 2022 | 12

brought healing to my heart, body, and soul. Jesus took the ashes of my life and created a masterpiece of his grand design. He watered me with his love and restored me with the fullness of his glory. Fearfully And Wonderfully Made No matter what we face, God can transform the difficult circumstances of our lives and make something beautiful from them. If we trust God, grow from the pain, and allow God’s love to heal us, we can become reflections of his glory that blossom and grace the world with beauty. Ephesians 2:10 says, For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. When we allow God to work in our lives, we are no longer broken vessels. We become works of art that shine in the darkness and чring light to those around us. Jesus places destiny inside of us and leads us on a magnificent path of purpose and promise. This transformation is the greatest miracle of all.

INTRAPRENEUR: FINDING HAPPINESS

TODD KUCKKAHN

15 | May - Jul 2022

accelerating a trend that has become known as the Great Resignation. One major driver appears to be that many workers are no longer willing to put up with the working conditions...” Working conditions in that quote means culture. How much drama do you have in your workplace culture? How many artificial walls exist? What do your co-workers say about the culture (and not just the ones in the “executive suite”)? Sinek goes on to say, “Corporate culture matters. How management chooses to treat its people impacts everything for better or for worse.” What are you intentionally doing to grow your culture and keep your intrapreneurs? If you think the solution is ping pong tables, beer dispensers, unlimited time off or even slides between floors, you are wrong? They work for a while. Then the new shiny toy wears off. Soon they gather dust like your treadmill that is serving as a place to hang clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I love entrepreneurs, but not those who seek it for escape from something they could control. They have an entrepreneurial seizure thinking the grass is always greener. There’s no guarantee it is, though. As an intrapreneur, you can have an incredible impact on the culture of your workplace. You can be passionate, enthusiastic, a self-starter, confident, a leader, an influencer, a wall buster, eager to learn and an original thinker. And you don’t have the pressures of making a sale, getting out a proposal, making a connection, or paying for your healthcare every minute of every day (i.e., 24/7/365). I’m on a mission to revolutionize corporate culture and leadership.

www.IPResilienceGlobal.com

As a leader in business, you create both intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs. Intrapreneurs want to stay and innovate within the company and entrepreneurs want to leave and innovate on their own. Which do you want? As a business builder, owner, co-worker or executive, you want intrapreneurs. From the research I have done, the average entrepreneur makes $40,000-$70,000 a year. That’s the average. Around thirty per cent fail in the first year. The best statistic I have seen is thirty percent make it to ten years. Are these favorable odds for leaving a company? Some employees are simply disgruntled workers and could easily become disgruntled entrepreneurs. Why not create a culture to retain the employee as an intrapreneur within the business or community? Create innovation opportunities and leadership development within the workplace for those who don’t want the grind of entrepreneurship. We hear of the Great Resignation taking place across the United States and the World as many in the workforce want to take on the challenge of being an entrepreneur. The excitement of trading the “9 to 5” for a “24/7/365” entrepreneurial business. Wait, what?!?! If you make less, have a higher chance of failing than succeeding, and work longer and harder, why do you want to be an entrepreneur? Simon Sinek, leadership thought expert, says, “The opportunity is not do discover the perfect company for ourselves. The opportunity is to build the perfect company for each other.” According to weforum.org, “a record 4.4 million Americans left their jobs in September in 2021,

As we go around the wheel and evaluate each of the nine elements, we gain a better understanding into our strengths and weaknesses. This, too, is an interactive process. Wrapped around the wheel are our core values, which impact each of the nine elements. The problem is that we have often been taught that we need to strengthen our weaknesses. Marilyn vos Savant, magazine columnist, author, lecturer, and playwright is quoted saying, “Success is achieved by developing our strengths, not by eliminating our weaknesses.” That should be what your internal leadership development should be developed to do so you can support your intrapreneurs. Step three is how differences make us better and our inner circle. As Jim Rohn, personal development expert, famously said, “You’re the average of the five people you spend time with.” Who are those people in your life? Who are those people in your industry? Who are those people in your workplace? Often it is not family. Do you need to pivot your inner circle? Thanks to my inner circle I learned a powerful diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lesson. When I developed the 5-Step Road Map for a Mindset Shift, I had corporate culture and intrapreneurs in mind. I have been in enough workplaces and worked with enough businesses to know that drama and walls exist everywhere. I’ve taken numerous businesses and employees through these steps. Those that make it part of their culture see a positive shift in talent attraction and retention. The first step is to take an introspective look into your core values, who you are. According to international leadership guru and one of my mentors, John C. Maxwell, “Your core values are those deeply held beliefs that authentically describe your soul.” They are the foundation of who you are and why you exist. This is the first step to leadership development in the workplace and breaking down the drama and walls. Step two is our wheel of life. There are nine elements we try to balance in our lives. Our world is not as simple as a work-life balance, like a teeter-totter. You are fooling yourself if you think that is the case. May - Jul 2022 | 16

When I was hiring to replace myself, my supervisor challenged me in a positive way to consider strengths and weaknesses of both candidates I was considering. She asked me to look at my weaknesses and see who best could support me and the organization. It was my first DEI lesson, and it was incredibly positive. I hired a strong, Hispanic woman instead of the guy who looked like me and she was an incredible addition to the team. Since then, I have even become certified in DEI training. The fourth step is the comfort zone. Rohit Sharma, international cricketer, may have stated it best when he said, “You should not remain in your comfort zone; if you want to make it big, you must challenge yourself, get out of your comfort zone, and succeed in doing well outside of your comfort areas.” Imagine working in a setting where this was welcomed and even cherished. The final of the five steps is using a personality and behavior tool called DISC. The assessment takes fifteen minutes, and you receive a thirty-page report that outlines your strengths and weaknesses in great detail. There are countless opportunities to build our culture and leadership development from the report. When utilized across teams, departments, and organizations, there is a renewed faith in communication, trust, and eventually constructive criticism. Wouldn’t you love to be an intrapreneur in that environment? Why not fight change and uncertainty with a road map that builds up people and not walls? People are your most valuable resource. Value them. Develop them and yourself. Create intrapreneurs.

HARPAL SINGH Aristotle said that knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. Also, excellence is never an accident; it’s always the result of good intentions, sincere efforts, and purposeful execution. I hope that my achievements personify these words. I was born in Delhi into a Sikh family. My father is a preacher and devotional singer, and my mother is very religious too. So spirituality has always been an important part of my life. My parents taught me the way you treat your fellow humans should always be above religion.

My family wasn’t rich, I was always going to have to work hard to achieve anything in life. What my parents lacked in money, they more than made up for with the care and attention they lavished on my upbringing, they ensured I got the best education they were able to provide including a degree in Tourism Management, diplomas in French, Spanish and German and my biggest passion, Music. After graduating I had jobs as a music teacher and in tourism but doing voluntary community work was always an important part of my life. During the 2002 earthquake at Bhuj Gujarat, I was volunteering for an organization that was dedicated to disaster relief work. For five days without rest, we sent food and medicines to the affected area. What do you get when you donate something? The joy of giving is your reward, that satisfaction in your heart is your reward because the best things in life aren’t things. Music was always my main passion, however, and at the age of 25, I formed my own music group and started devotional singing. I was at the top of my career for seven years until illness struck and I lost my voice completely. Doctors declared that I would never again sing like before. Music was my life, my passion, so this was an awful shock for me and left me with depression. My mother always taught me that feeling fulfilled is easiest when you follow your destiny. I had faith in her words but with my music career finished I had lost my destiny. I was depressed for a long time. Something that sustained me during my depression was this; when we have peace we often say

that God is in our heart but I believe that when you have peace you are in the heart of God because that is eternal, we can lose our peace sometimes but God will never lose us. Eventually I went to Rishikesh for an emotional retreat. It was there that divine inspiration came in the form of a holy person. I believe that, if you are dedicated to achieving something positive, then God or the universe will help you and six weeks later my voice was miraculously restored. It was this meeting that gave me the meaning of my life, I was to dedicate my life to the service of humanity. So in 2014 I joined the Foreign Information department in

conference in Bangkok. Afterward, we worked on some projects to help with child labor and women’s education in Bangkok and Chaing Mai. I got to meet so many positive people. In 2018, the Jesus and Mary convent of New Delhi invited me to join a group of 65 preachers from around the world. We worked on many international humanitarian projects and shared ideas on how to spread a message of love, peace, and hope in this world. I continued working for the department until 2019 when I was invited to the French Senate in Paris for a meeting and was honored with a medal for my humanitarian Delhi where I worked with international organisations on humanitarian issues, such as children’s and women’s education and welfare, disaster relief work etc. I got to meet so many beautiful souls. It was like God had opened his arms to show me how I could best serve humanity. I had finally found my true calling, my purpose in life and got immeasurable fulfilment from being able to make a positive impact in so many lives. I got to work on many wonderful projects. One of the most memorable was back in 2017 when a group of social activists from Malaysia and Thailand invited me to speak at their annual May - Jul 2022 | 20

work. This was my impetus for wondering how I could do even more for communities in need. Then Bihar, an Eastern state in India, suffered devastating floods. More than eight million people were affected and almost 160 died. The message was clear, “go ahead, what are you waiting for?” Our team of fifteen left Delhi and arrived in Madhubani where we set up multiple relief camps and eight community kitchens to serve the affected. On one occasion, three of us almost drowned trying to save a few people from the floods, but my faith kept me focused when I was in danger. At the end of 2019, I formed an organization “Sikhi Sambhal foundation” dedicated to helping people in difficulty and spreading the message of equality and humanity. When covid struck, the whole world changed on an unimaginable scale. Whilst everyone was locked inside their homes, I decided to go out and help those who had nothing to eat. Our organization prepared and distributed 200 food parcels every day. We also formed a team of doctors who could help with medicines and basic treatments. During the second wave of covid in 2021, there were a lot of fatalities due to lack of oxygen, one German organization “Human Design Uni” joined hands with us and together we imported oxygen concentrators and distributed them where they were needed most. I have received other international awards for my humanitarian work from organizations such as the World Sikh Chamber of Commerce, the European Union, and Harvard but above all these, what matters most is the peace and fulfillment this work gives me, from seeing the joy in the eyes of those who need a little joy most. Let’s make a crying child smile, let’s help someone in need; that’s my mission, that’s my passion. Life isn’t just about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself. Conquer yourself and you can be the change you wish to see in the world.

A BRIEF TESTIMONY FOR

SUSAN VANDENHEUVEL

study and apply the truth to her life. It wasn’t easy, and being set free, while at times was difficult, was well worth it. Jesus said in John 8:32, “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” His truth has brought freedom, healing, wholeness, and redemption to Susan’s life. He loved Susan when she thought she was unlovable, accepted her before anyone had a chance to reject her, and called Susan His own before anyone could abandon her. Susan now knows she has value and worth, and no one or anything can take that from her. Susan loves herself and who she has become because she fought to find herself. Because Susan believes what God does in someone, He then does through that person, identity in Christ has become a message Susan is passionate about. In Him, we live and move and have our being. In Him, we are not the labels placed upon us by others or the ones we place upon ourselves. We are not what we have done or what has been done to us; we are not our failures or mistakes or poor decisions, the opinions of others, but in Christ, we are everything He says we are! Every champion is a contender who refuses to give up. Susan is a strong champion of others and encourages people to contend for their faith and freedom. In this life, we will be tempted to pick up what Jesus has set us free from. Susan has learned that to remain free; one must be aware of our thoughts and inner narrative. If the thoughts we’re thinking don’t align with the truth, we must exchange that lie for the truth. Every woman can rise stronger if she allows God to rebuild her. Susan believes a woman who rises with a free heart is unbound to her past and is expectant

www.IPResilienceGlobal.com

Susan’s story contains a lot of pain and brokenness. Due to pain and brokenness, Susan built walls around her heart to protect herself. She convinced herself that those walls were keeping her safe when, in all truth, they were keeping her bound. She was determined not to allow anyone to get close enough to her to hurt her again. The thing about walls around our hearts is that they don’t keep us in; they keep us from getting out. Out to freedom and healing. Of course, it would be years before Susan would understand this truth. In the years before her transformation, Susan had been places she had no business being, said things she could not take back, did things she deeply regretted, and things were done to her no one should have done to them. Looking for love in all the wrong places, Susan found herself in many unhealthy relationships. The deeply rooted insecurities caused her to seek out what the world tells us will bring security, value, worth, and confidence. The things the world tells us to chase will always cost us more than we realize. Susan tried fitting in at the expense of her worth, worked relentlessly at her image, was successful at business, had titles, etc. In the end, none of those things filled the emptiness deep within Susan’s soul. Susan was in her early twenties, a young mom, and newly married when she heard about Someone who would take her by the hand and never let go – ever. Someone who loved her without any strings attached, accepted her even with all the flaws she had; Someone who had wanted Susan from the beginning and had a plan for her life. That Someone has a name – Jesus. Susan began to be discipled at a women’s Bible
