Kaliningrad Regional Drama Theatre has prepared the premiere of the adventures of Carlson. According to Vyacheslav Chuistov, Permian director, it is a fairy tale for the whole family.

The performances will be on at the Philharmonic and drama Theater from December 24 - January 8, at 11:00 and 14:00.

I remember my first day in Kaliningrad, when I was trying, rather desperately, to find some historical and cultural threads that would bind this ordinary SovietRussian city with its predecessor - Koenigsberg. Such threads seem to be everywhere, on the other hand you can’t find one anywhere.

Здания-пленники, вынужденные жить в заключении у современных исторических и культурных реалий. Солнечный день открывал мне картину скелета, на котором будто пуговицы истлевшего сюртука — сверкали уцелевшие объекты прусского наследия. Могут ли эти останки связывать нынешних жителей города с жителями прошлого, что неспешно прогуливались по гранитной брусчатке Кенигсберга столетие назад... Всё изменилось для меня одной ночью, когда я вышел пройтись

The old streets and houses, which had previously been part of an impressive architectural ensemble of Koenigsberg, happen to have undergone the pressure of typical Soviet buildings and modern “frills.”

Building - prisoners, being forced to live in captivity, having confined themselves to modern historical and cultural realities. A sunny day revealed the picture of a skeleton in a ragged coat, the buttons on which sparkled reminding of the survived objects of Prussian heritage. Are these remains of the past ever able to connect present-day residents with those of the past, who used to stroll along the granite cobblestones of Koenigsberg a century ago ...

Everything changed for me over a night, when I went out for a walk

Я видел настоящий Кенигсберг. Он не умер, он просто затаился в земле, среди опавшей листвы, в речушках, в деревьях, в сыром ветре и камнях. Я шел по Калининграду и дышал воздухом живого города.

I saw the real face of Koenigsberg. It had not died, it had simply hidden in the ground, in the streams, among the fallen leaves, in the humid wind and even in the stones. That cold autumn night disclosed a different city to me, it seemed to have let out all the ghosts, all the shadows that lurked in the nooks of old houses, in the cracks of the ancient bricks, under the old, blackened roof tiles. I saw the real face of Koenigsberg. It had not died, it had simply hid in the ground, in the streams, in the trees, among the fallen leaves, in the humid wind and even in the stones.

I walked around Kaliningrad and breathed the air of a living city. In the darkness, among the chestnut trees, lime trees and beeches of Park Luisenwahl wandered the invisible phantoms of long gone noble Prussians. The night resurrected with its moonlight the

ордена, яростно отвоевывавших эту землю у язычников-пруссов, загоняя их всё глубже в леса. Тяжело летающие над черными ветвями вековых дубов вороны казались мне вечными стражами духа Кенигсберга. И сам Альбрехт, последний Великий Магистр Тевтонского ордена, с грустью смотрел из распахнутых окон Кафедрального собора на меня и на грязные воды Преголи. И сколько бы исторических зданий еще не разрушилось, Калининград никогда не станет, одним из сотен провинциальных городов, утопающих в серой безысходности. Кенигсберг будет жить и каждую ночь воскресать заново: с его средневековой застройкой, фортами растворяющимися во тьме, воронамистражниками, кружащими над суровыми кирхами и одинокой могилой великого Канта. Я хотел написать про мой идеальный день в Калиниграде, но незаметно для самого себя написал про мою идеальную ночь... Но ведь Кенигсберг-Калининград каждому открывает что-то свое. И я уверен, что в ночь на Рождество (25 декабря) смогу увидеть в блестящей гранитной брусчатке размытые отражения тысяч ушедших кенигсбержцев, радующихся благой вести.

And no matter how many historical buildings have not collapsed yet, Kaliningrad will never become one of hundreds of provincial towns, drowned in the grey despair. Koenigsberg will live on and regain life again and again every night, with its medieval buildings, its forts dissolved in the darkness, with its raven guards circling over the churches and the lonely grave of great Kant.

I wanted to write about my perfect day in Kaliningrad, but happened to write, quite strange to myself, about my perfect night... Actually Koenigsberg-Kaliningrad discloses something of theirs to everyone.

I will not sound original if I say that as elsewhere, exceptionally collectible items are of potential value. But there exists such an expression as emotional investment, and from my point of view - it is not a question of price. To evaluate such an investment is rather difficult, yet its value is obvious worldwide.

Will the Russian watchmakers ever be able to compete with foreign luxury brands?

My opinion is that it is fairly possible, but not very soon. Well, the watches of domestic producers are in demand with customers of their own, especially popular are the models in gold (former factory “Chayka” – “Platinor” at present). It is no secret that almost all Russian manufacturers use Japanese or Swiss details. As for the jewelry we represent, it is, to greater extend, of Russian production and believe me, both the design and the quality of these items comply with European standards.

Если не учитывать гений места, даже кафе в легендарной «Заре» можно сделать заурядным. Как известно, здание кинотеатра было построено в середине 30х. Сюда ходили наши бабушки, мамы.... В моем детстве, поход в «Зарю» был настоящим праздником. Кинотеатр - это традиционное место встреч. И сейчас, наша задача, сделать любимый кинотеатр идеальным местом - «праздником, который всегда с тобой». Krzysztof Zanussi said recently: There are three reasons why to visit Kaliningrad: Dune Efa, Kant’s grave and the cinema “Zarya”. By what means do the pecularities of the latter influence the concept of a cafe?

If we do not take into account the genius loci, even the café in the legendary “Zarya” can be commonplace. The building of the cinema is known to have been built in the mid-30s. This was a place our grandmothers and mothers used to go, going to the “Zarya” was a real event in my childhood. Cinema is traditionally a meeting place.

Наше меню в процессе формирования. Мы вводим блюда, собираем мнения, затем утверждаем. Кафе — это живой и творческий процесс. Мы много работаем над устоявшимися стереотипами. К примеру, принято в крем-суп добавлять сливки, мы же предлагаем декорировать суп рукколой, базиликом и кедровыми орешками, все это мелочи, но класс заведения - в красивых и легких деталях. И хотя у нас нет задачи сделать гастрономически-высокий ресторан, все должно быть просто, вкусно и изящно.

Our menu undertakes a complicated process, we introduce the dish, ask for opinions and only then the dish is confirmed. Running a Cafe is a lively and creative business.

We make plenty of changes in fixed stereotypes. For example, it’s our trade-mark to add cream in cream soup, and decorate it with arugula, basil and pine nuts, well, all this is just nothing in comparison with beautiful and light details which speak of the high class of the café. Although we have no purpose to make it a high-gastronomical restaurant, everything has to be as simple, tasty and elegant as possible.

Вы рассматриваете кафе в некой исторической перспективе, значит, отчасти вы футуролог и в этой связи возникает вопрос. Каким вы видите свое заведение, ну скажем, в 2018-м? Любой человек, если он думает о завтрашнем дне, в каком-то смысле футуролог. Через три года, я полагаю, наше кафе будет так же популярно у горожан и гостей города как парижская «Ротонда». Только в «Заре» не будет очередей, ну и немного чище. Мы с Машей смеемся, едим волшебные десерты, болтаем обо всем на свете, почти все столики заняты - время ланча. Через несколько часов начнется премьера...

Anyone, whoever is far-sighted is a futurologist, in a sense,. We have a strong team and we carry out development strategy. After three years, I believe our cafe will be just as popular with both residents and visitors to the city as “Rotonda”in Paris but without queues and much cleaner.

Masha and I burst out laughing, enjoy magical desserts and chat a lot, almost all the tables are occupied – it’s lunch time, and a few hours later, I will be having a premiere here...

uditten Church (38 Tennistaya Alley) Juditten Church is a former Catholic church of the Tuetonic Order of the Virgin Mary in the district of Juditten and is the oldest Lutheran church on the territory of Kaliningrad. It was built in 1288 and was a famous place of pilgrimage for the Knights.

As for the origin of the word “Juditten”, there exist several versions: “the settlement of the tribe Jud”, after a Prussian by the name Yudetus, who was granted some lands in this area in 1288 by the landlord Querfur, or it was named after Saint Jutta (Juditta) Botisher.

In the early 80’s the ruins of the Juditten church were handed to the Orthodox Church. On October 6, 1985 the church was consecrated.

In 1988, with the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Christianity in Russia, the first service took place. At present it is the main church of the St. Nicholas nunnery of Smolensk and Kaliningrad eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Convent.

St. Adalbert Church: old and new (41 Victory Avenue) St. Adalbert, the former bishop of Prague, was the patron saint of Prussia. The church St. Adalbert was built and consecrated on November 14, 1904 and originally was a small chapel in the “brick gothic” style. The author of the project was architect Friedrich Heitmann. In 1932 the building was considerably expanded:

It is here that on September 18, 2005 Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz performed the ceremony of consecration of the first Catholic Church in Kaliningrad since the time of World War II. The complex of consists of the church itself, the chapel of Our Lady of Fatima and housing catechetical halls.

In the presbytery, there is an icon to the Blessed Virgin, which was blessed on July 21, 2004 by Holy Father John Paul II. The icon depicts Maria holding Jesus on her laps, and an inscription: “Ego sum Lux Mundi”. By the way, the author of the icon is the famous iconographer from Pskov, Archimandrite Zinon (Theodore).

Christmas is one of the most important Christian holidays. It is a custom to fast before Christmas.

Одним из блюд на рождественском столе является - сочиво или кутья, которое готовят из пшеничных зерен, риса, ячменя, перловки, а заправляют медом, орехами, маком или изюмом. На Сочельник принято разносить блюдо вечером родным и близким. Каждый, перед началом ужина должен съесть немного сочива, приносящего в дом здоровье и благополучие. Старинный рецепт: 1 стакан риса, 100 г мака, 1 стакан орехов (миндаль, фундук, арахис), 3-4 ст.л. меда, изюм без косточек — горсть. Рис (1:2) варить до готовности. Орехи измельчить. Мак залить водой, поставить на плиту на 20 мин. Переложить мак в ступку и, добавляя мед, растереть. Рис нужно смешать с медовым маком, орехами, изюмом и выложить на блюдо. Счастливого Рождества!

According to tradition it is a custom to fast on Christmas Eve ( the night before Christmas) “until the first star appears”. This tradition is associated with the legend of the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem, announcing the birth of Christ. The traditional dish served at this point is ‘sochivo’ also known as ‘kutia’, a dish of wheat grains, rice, barley, and is seasoned with honey, nuts, poppy seeds and raisins.

On Christmas Eve this dish is delivered to closest relatives and friends.

And before the festive dinner each family member should eat a little ‘sochivo’ that symbolizes health and wellbeing.

Ingredients: 1 cup of rice, 100 grams of poppy seeds, 1 cup nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts), 3-4 tbsp of honey, raisins.

Cook the rice (1:2) until tender. Chop the nuts. Put the poppy seeds in a saucepan, add water and cook for 20 m. Put the poppy seeds in a bowl, add the honey gradually. Add the rice to this mass, then add the nuts and the raisins and put the dish out onto a plate.

The exhibition tells about the storming of Konigsberg, representing the defense system of the city before the assault, photos of forts, bastions, towers, bunkers and pillboxes, anti-tank ditches, trenches and non-explosive obstacles; schematic maps, models, the plan of the assault, as well as position of troops at all stages. Museum «KP 43rd Army and temporary control point by 3rd Belorussian Front». Тhe museum is located in the building where the command post of the advancing army was situated during the storming of Konigsberg in April of 1945. Here is an exhibition dedicated to fighting strategy of the 43rd Army, which contributed greatly to Königsberg operation. The zoo was badly damaged during World War II. After the storming of Koenigsberg the following four creatures survived miraculously: a deer, a badger, a donkey and a wounded hippopotamus. The collection was quickly replenished with the help of residents and other zoos. Today more than 2,000 species of exotic animals and birds from around the globe can be found here, including very rare and endangered species.
