How To Survive SV.Innovum

To all the newbies that have started their studies at Fon tys Engineering and joined our beloved association, this article is for you. Next to clas ses, practicals and exams you should also be having fun and time to relax, that’s when SV.Innovum enters your life! In this article we help you to be able to enjoy all of our activities and facilities.

1. Go to the Innovum events

From Introduction week, to beer cycling, to company days, to study eves, to pub crawls, there are so many events that SV.Innovum orga nizes every year. These events are fun or educative, or may be even both. In any case, you will get the chance to meet new people and eventually become friends.

new friends at the SV.Inno vum hok but also at organi zed parties at Stratum.

4. Become an active member and get priority at certain events

2. Make friends because they will stay for life

Whether you are studying electrical , automotive, me chanical, mechatronics or even applied mathematics, there is always place for you at Innovum. You can make

3. Enjoy the free coffee and tea

If you are an Innovum mem ber, there is free coffee and tea in the Innovum room every day. So, if you need to get a head start on the day, you can pour your own very strong coffee at Innovum. Also, for little money you can enjoy sodas, snacks and soups. All these benefits are found at the SV.Innovum hok!

There are many different committees you can join, such as the party, media, external or student support committee. When joining the committee, you help out SV.Innovum with organizing activities, events or staying on top of the website. In exchange for your help, you become an active member. Once a year, all active mem bers receive their own perso nalized mug so they can even drink more coffee!

5. Be yourself

It does not matter if you are quiet or loud, you should not change your personality to fit in because your per sonality will always have a place within Innovum. The fact that you chose an en gineering study means that everyone always has at least one common interest, which is trying to get their diplo

ma because no one actually knows what they’re doing.

6. When Thursday nights become late there is a couch waiting for you

If Thursday nights become late when having fun with friends, the Innovum couch will be waiting for you to rest during lessons on Friday. Just grab your laptop put on a movie and relax on the couch and maybe take a nap so that you are wide awake for the next lesson.

7. Innovum is here to help

When struggling with exams, SV.Innovum has a student support where you can ask for help. If you know a sub ject well, you can also help others that are struggling. Everyone is here to help be cause they want you to have fun but not stay a lifelong student. Before every exam week, Student Support orga nizes study eves where you are surrounded by people who want to study as well, this can be very motivating.

8. Stickers are everything

When handing out stickers, SV.Innovum is promoted and will be more recognizable. With this kind of advertise ment, more people start to know what SV.Innovum does and people will join.

The introduction week. It’s the first time you’ll meet your fellow students. Personally, I came in a bit late for the check-in, so when I arrived, I got given my shirt and we we’re told to get moving straight away. The first thing we did was a crazy 88 style challenge. So basically, we were given a bunch of mini challenges we’d have to com plete. The challenges ranged from hugging a tree to pet ting a dog. Also, one of the challenges was that we were given pictures of places in Eindhoven that we had to find. After doing a bunch of these challenges, we were told to come to Bartenders on Stratumseind. Here, we were given some very inte resting directions on how we were supposed to get to the camp site. Our group tried following it, but honestly, we failed miserably.

Once we finally made it to the camping, we placed our stuff in one of the 2 big tents. Later that night, we had our first big activity, a dropping. Basically, we we’re sent out with a couple of big busses to the middle of nowhere. The organisation told us to go either 2 directions and not the third direction. With our group’s tendency to pick exact wrong option, we ob viously went the complete wrong way. With all of us having to walk for 5 hours and about 20 kilometres, we all ended up being quite an noyed. Eventually we ended up getting back to camp site at about 4:30 in the morning with us being the last group to get back.

The next day, we were woken up in the loveliest way pos sible, SpongeBob hardstyle. We we’re given breakfast, which luckily energized us for the rest of the day. The first activity of the day was a competition against all the other groups to build a cata pult that could shoot a can of beer the furthest. To build this, every group was given the remains of what used to be some pallets. We also got to use some saws and ham mers, and If you were lucky enough, nails or screws. With these tools you’d be able to actually build something that worked. One of the best tactics was to just steal stuff from other groups so you had more recourses.

Our group ended up buil ding a sort of good catapult that was able to shoot quite a nice distance. After this, we went on to personally my favourite activity of the entire week: canoeing in the Dommel! Together with the entirety of Innovum, lots of chaos and beer was involved. At the start, I figured we’d just have a nice time by simply

October 2022 | InSide6 Intro Week 2022

canoeing down the stream. But this quickly turned into everyone flipping each other’s boats. Good thing the we ather was quite hot so no mind getting a bit wet while having a good time. After ca noeing, we we’re taken back to the campground for some well-deserved dinner. Which was quite needed since we were told to get ready for the carnaval themed party after wards. The party itself took place on the camping which was nice since we didn’t have to cycle or take the bus any where.

the bus back to Fontys for our first activity of the day. When we eventually arri ved at school, we were told what the task would be. We would get a grinder that had to be used to build a car. Our group came up with a smart construction in the form of a T shaped appendment that could be attached to the grinder. In addition, we also made saw type wheels that would accelerate the car. This took us about 2 hours to complete which was more than enough time. The only real problem we had was that we lost an attachment piece of the grinder... But we had a great solution for this. We stole it from another group that hadn’t even started work on their car :)

The next day we got woken up at 8 AM, AGAIN! But this time it wasn’t as bad since we were in bed before 4:30 AM. As usual, we got our break fast from the crew which we very much enjoyed. Then afterwards, we cleaned up the mess we made the night before and got ready to take

After our great effort building the car, we were taken back to the camp site, where we en countered our next problem. It was really hot outside with basically no shelter from the sun. Luckily, we were allowed to use the swimming pool that was on site. Unfortuna tely, not for very long since all 350 people from the cam ping had to use it. But, since we were the first group that was allowed use of the pool, we were allowed a second go after everyone else went.

After a while, we started the grinder race, we quickly no ticed a major flaw in our car. It didn’t have anything that kept it in a straight line. So, our car just turned right and buried itself in the wall. In addition, it ended up destro ying the track it drove on, and thus we ended up being eliminated the very first round. Our solution: grab some beers and enjoy oursel ves together with the inter national students that had joined us on the camp site. This basically went on for the entire night till the moment I decided to go to bed. But there was one downside, I got woken up by my group in the middle of the night by them trying to cover me in Inno vum stickers. When I finally woke up, some guy from my group pulled another prank on me. Basically, he covered me from head to toe with shaving cream. Which at the time, I didn’t really appreciate it so my genius response was to chase one of the other members of my group around the camp site

October 2022 | InSide 7

while still covered in shaving cream…

At last, we ended up going to Fontys where a bus was wai ting for us to take us to Til burg for Purple. Once we got there, they had a very weird rule where we could only start drinking alcohol past 4 PM, but the problem was that we arrived around 3 PM. So, we had an entire hour of just dancing and the real fun started after.

The next day, we had a bit of a different day. To start out it was basically just a clean and pack-up day. We ended up saying goodbye to the camp site and started our journey back to Eindhoven on the bike. We were told to just take the stuff with us that we wanted to take to The Pur ple festival. So, we were all packed quite lightly when we went out to get some lunch at Hizmet.

When buying a beer at Pur ple, you also pay a deposit for the cup. This obviously sounds like a great business idea, but my intro group had a better one. We started col lecting these cups and asking people to donate theirs. We ended up building about 2 to wers that were 1,5 m tall. To be honest, I don’t remember what we ended up doing with those towers since I was too far gone.

After Purple, we were trans ported back to the TU/e gym where we would be sleeping that night. I chose to go home that night since I was exhausted. I really enjoyed my introduction week and I made some great friends along the way. It was a great way to start my new studies!

InSide the Study Trip Committee

Hey you, yes you! Do you have anything to do during the holiday of May a.k.a. the 30th of April till the 6th of May? No? Well, now you have something noteworthy to write down in your calendar!

Join the studytrip itself to experience one hell of a ride with some of your coolest fellow stu dents.

During this amazing trip to a location that is top- top- top- secret, you can experience interes ting companies where you can see first hand on how things are made. In between these com pany visits, broaden your cultural horizon by visiting some local cities or get a taste for some breath-taking sceneries. Now you might think, a location that far away, how do we get there?

Well do I have the answer for that. The road trip we make towards our destination, some might even say, is better than our stay itself. Some crazy stories about the things in the vans or something, I don’t know ;-).

If this has captured your attention and if you have taken an interest in organizing such a cool trip. Fantastic!!! Don’t hesitate to contact me (Floris) by either talking to me in the Innovum hok, where I reside a lot of the time, or emailing to our email address which is also mentioned below this sick piece of text and join the studytrip committee in working behind the scenes to realize such amazing journeys.

The Marathon, or at least half!

In my last piece on the marathon you might have noticed a slight hint of motivational speech, even though I said I wasn’t going to do that. Maybe you read the article and figured, not quite such a bad idea at all to get moving more and you’ve joined another team because you find running boring. All we know is that we weren’t able to gather more idiots to come and run half a marathon with us, so we needed to run with the idiots we already had. Spoiler alert: below you get to find out if they made it or not.

These absolute winners all made the 21.1 km within the 3 hours. Some trained and with a goal of sub 2 hours, some untrained with the goal to have it please be over and be finished in time. You see them smiling in this picture because I was nice enough to hand them the free beer that was promi sed from the get go, not because nothing hurts and it was an easy task to accomplish.

Initially our team was bigger, but due to some injuries whilst trai ning and an unscheduled appen dix removal, part of our team decided to put on their comfy

clothes and watch the marathon from the sideline. Or as our very own Theodor Ketelaars said: “I’d rather be at the sideline with a beer in my hand.”

However, the people that were injured trying for this year have made a pact to continue trying for next years’ Eindhoven marathon. Some fanatics have even menti oned whilst drinking a nice free beer that they want to try for the full marathon. Why are we so mo tivated you might think? We have some ground rules, we’ll run you through them later.

But first, let me run you through this whirlwind of a day, and lets start at the Montgomerylaan.

From left to right we have Joeri Dings, Benjamin Kuiper, Pim Kae thoven, Thom van der Horst, Bart de Miranda, Iris Teunissen, Stijn Stertefeld and Joep van de Berg. Missing are Niek van Haren and Buck Willemsen. We know they finished but weren’t able to stalk their start numbers after they crossed the finishline so we could not find them for our winners photo.

As you can see, here the team was still fresh and ready to go, super motivated to get a good run in and possibly even a new personal best at a half marathon. Everybody was excited, packed with protein bars and gells and everything to get some more energy for their muscles to not burn up before the finish. It all started of very professional with an anxiety pee and before we knew it our idiots were on their way. Starting meant getting in 21.1km in 3 hours or paying for a keg, so there was no way they were going to give up al ong the way, though some of them thought about it.

October 2022 | InSide10
Meet our RunNovum team:

For some it seemed an easy chal lenge. Stijn had participated last year and wanted to get some free beer out of it, and Benjamin had even done the full marathon a few years back. To quote him: “It was a nice stroll through the neighbour hood.” But don’t believe that they had it easy during the run, I have the video’s with their facial expres sions to prove it wasn’t just a piece of cake. Nevertheless, all of our RunNovum members are absolute winners to me, whether it was an easy run or the fight of their life to make it past the finishline, they did!

To quote Pim Kaethoven: “I thought everything in Eindhoven was close to each other.” As you can tell, he thought wrong. But all jokes aside, as I spoiled earlier, all our idiots made it and were crowned absolute winners. Good thing some of them took Monday off to celebrate their glory by not being able to go down the stairs, nor get out of bed. They deserved it!

So, if you feel motivated to step up yourself, we’ll be doing this again next year. If you think you’re an absolute winner and not an idiot, please sign up! The same rules will apply for our next edition.

Our rules are simple, whether you’re an active member, a passive one, a former member, or some body that is just very gezellig and needs some motivation, you can sign up for RunNovum by ente ring our WhatsApp group.

Once you enter, you agree to the terms which are simple, but I’ll list them here just in case:

1. Drop out of the challenge = pay for a keg of beer

2. Not finishing the 21.1 km = pay for a keg of beer

3. Not being able to finish the 21.1km within 3 hours = pay for a keg of beer

This year we will try to do more than just the marathon so stay posted for the running events that we will join in 2023! We’d love to get your support from the sideline or on the track running along with us!

Big hug, Emma van Dongen (this time I wasn’t even tricked, I’m starting to actually like this)

DIY Electric bicycle

Are you tired of biking everywhere? Do you wish you had an easy mode of transportation that would go faster than bicycling with less effort?

Sounds impossible right? Well fear no more, the perfect DIY beunmis sie approved solution is here! (Of course you could always just buy an electric bike or use a GO-scooter, but where’s the fun in that?)

In this article we’ll tell you exactly how to build your own electric bicy cle.

To start off here’s a small shopping list:

1 bicycle

An old starter motor from a car (the bigger the engine the bet ter, diesel starter motors would also be more suitable) (ask your local scrapyard)

The start relay that belongs with the starter motor

1 car battery (preferably one that belongs in the car you got the starter motor from)

2 thick copper wires. (ask your local scrapyard)

2 thinner copper wires

2 battery clamps

A press button

A small rubber wheel

Some random hardware

Some straps

Some required tools for this project will be:

Angle grinder/hacksaw

Drill and drill bits

Welding machine

Some basic wrenches and plier.

Once everything is acquired the “beuning” can begin. We start of by preparing the starter motor. First take of the aluminium bracket and cut the drive axle in order to take of the pinion gear.

Once the axle is cut you can slide of the pinion gear. Now put the aluminium cover back on and weld a piece of threaded rod to the cut axle so you end up with something like this:

Figure 1: take of the aluminium housing(blue) and cut the axle at the red line

You now have a way of mounting your wheel to the motor, simply screw (or weld, or whatever, just make sure the wheel is attached to the motor) your driven wheel (e.g. a shopping cart wheel) on the threaded rod so you get something like in figu re 3. After this your motor is ready to be mounted on your bicycle.

October 2022 | InSide12
Figure 2: the threaded rod welded to the motor axle

Figure 3: the completed motor

Next up make a bracket on the bicycle to mount your motor on the front wheel, make sure the wheel on the motor is nicely in the middle of the bicycles wheel and pressing firmly on the wheel. The bracket can look something like in the picture below:

Now all that’s left to do is some wiring and mounting the battery to the luggage rack of the bicycle. For the wiring, you run two thick wires to the positive and ground of the motor. You wire your push button in such a fashion that it acti vates the start relay which in turn activates the sole noid on the starter motor.

The wiring scheme can be found below:

Figure 4: the motor mounted to the front wheel

Figure 5: wiring scheme

Finally, strap your battery to your luggage rack, attach the battery to the wiring using the battery clamps and mount your push button to your handle bars in a location which can be easily accessed with your thumb (the push button will be the throttle).

Once you completed all these steps you can get on your newly “gebeunde” electric bicycle. Press the button and hold on tightly, this setup should allow you to drive without even peddling at speeds up to 40 km/u!

Disclaimer: we (beunmissie/Innovum/the author of this article) do not take any responsibility for trouble you may get with the police because you are driving a bootleg electric scooter. Next to that do we also not guarantee that the bike has a long action radius or that it doesn’t light on fire after.

What is the media committee?

One of the most off radar committees innovum has, the media committee! Our committee consists of a few people who are creative in their own way. We have poster designers, photographers and other people who make sure you won’t miss or forget an event!

With this message, we hope to expand our committee with some fun and creative members who want to help. Below is listed what you can expect when joining our committee, if this seems like fun to you, please contact us at:

media@engineeringeindhoven.nl

Poster designer -> Design posters for committees who are organizing an event by using our photoshop pro grams!

Photographer -> Take pictures at events and capture amazing nights so the memories will last forever!

Filtering photos -> This ‘task’ is more of a privilage since you get to see all the exclusive content that is created suring an event. You will make sure the best photos are shared with the rest of the committee!

Social media -> Be in charge of our instagram and make sure that all the important information is shared with the rest of our assosiation!

Tech guy/gal -> Of course all of the content should be shared, this is where our engineering skills come in handy. The tech people make sure the website is rolling smoothly, the ticket system is working, and the pictu re website is maintained!

Introduction of the New Board

more fun. Because of this goal I, sought out the chairman position which sadly for all of your study credits came true. Now the real party can start!

Because I know that I will spend way too much time on being chairman, I have made some changed plans for my study. These plans are to earn my Propaedutic phase and finish my EXPO pro jects. Whether I succeed? I guess we’ll find out

issues or great ideas for Innovum. I am also always in for trying new fun things, so be sure to invite me if you go do something fun and original :-).

The first Innovum activity I went to, is beer cycling. If you have ever joined the beer cycling activity, you might know that it’s pure fun and chaos. After joining this In novum activity, I knew that I was lost in the Innovum madness and definitely wanted to stay in Inno vum. Besides all the fun parties and activities, I was also a member of the committee student support because I like making sure people are getting the help they need.

Hey everyone, I’m Hidde Gilli an Zwaal, 21 years and I’ve been forced to write a little piece for the InSide but I don’t mind since I like Innovum so much, even though it took me forever since I hate talking about myself. I am a mechatronics student who started in 2020. Currently, I am in my se cond year. I was born in beautiful ‘s-Hertogenbosch, however, I live in Rosmalen (smaller version of den Bosch but much better)

I’ve always been interested in travelling through space and I was always building random things, from RC cars to “rocket powered” boats (as long as you have enough fireworks, it’ll work). Besides ex plosives and other unsafe things, I also like food and parties, even though it could also be argued that partying with me can be very dangerous.

As long as I have been with Inno vum, I have tried to get to know everyone and make everything

Hey everybody, I’m Romée van den Broek and I am 21 years old. I study Mechanical Engineering and I am in my 2nd year. As most of you might know, my spine has dissolved this year in all the beers, so that might be why people also describe me as an enthusiastic Hubble customer.

I am the new secretary of SV.In novum and I originally live in Someren but I currently have a room in Eindhoven as well. I am a spontaneous girl and a little bit clumsy, but I have a lot of heart for this association. I hope to be an approachable board member, whe re you can go to if you have any

One of the other things besides Innovum that I am crazy about is cotton candy. ( LIFELESSON: never bike with cotton candy on a stick, because it will turn into a bugtrap and you will be very sad when you arrive on your destina tion with a black and pink cotton candy). I also love travelling, my current travel obsession is surf holiday locations. I also love dan cing (in the danceroom and on the dancefloor during parties). I like to get everyone on the dancefloor during parties. So join your board at the next party and we can dance together!!

October 2022 | InSide18

Dear future engineers, my name is Stef Kempers and I’m 21 years old. I could have graduated this year but I suddenly lost my spine and know I’m in the board of 22-23.

I will fulfil my duty as the new commissioner. Some people said to me that this function will fit me the best according to my quali ties. I don’t know what qualities they were talking about, because I think I don’t have any. Anyway… I live in two beautiful villages called Esch and Boxtel and was born in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. That means that I’m genetically made for fun and drinking.

When talking about beer… this is also one of my hobby’s. My other hobbies are football and playing the drums. Although I’m not very good at it but it’s paired with drinking beers. I think I should start a relationship with beer now I’m still single. Since I am such an expert regarding beers I am really going to enjoy all the tasteful Schultenbrau I will consume this year. It really is the most tasteful beer I know (trust me, I am an expert/engineer).

I am also a big fan of coffee and one of the guys that makes sure that there is a fresh bakkie pleur ready for everyone in the morn ing. I remember the good old days enjoying the koffieuurtjes with Martie, Siem, Sven and some more elderly burgers

One of the things I am hoping to learn this board year is making de cisions. Like you probably know, I waited the last week before the election with signing up, that is because I wanted to be 100% that I wanted to do a board year. Let’s hope that I can improve this skill, otherwise the board meetings are going to take very long. They also think that I’m very slow already. Enjoy this year!

knife present. But technically it is a multitool.

As a child, I was always invol ved with music. At age 7, I really wanted to learn to play big church organs. I was too small to touch the foot pedals on an organ, so I ended up with the two closest op tions, the piano and the accordion. Over the years I learned many more instruments and stood on a lot of stages.

Besides music and drinking, I also like to do some sports. The first is a mind sport called golf. It is a mind sport, I like to think it is a sport. I also have a classic Dutch sailing boat with my dad. We have renovated it so much that no single part on it is original. This is also where my passion for “beu nen” cames from.

Where I am not planning to beun though is as my commissioner external role inside the board. I think that my direct predecessor has done a great job. So I want to keep the good communication and habits up. Also I want to ena ble Innovum the opportunity for even bigger and better events.

Hello fellow people of the good life. My name is Anton Jan Vitali Bour, although most of you know me as Tonnie. I am a 19 years old mechatronics student, who really likes to stay a second years. I was born, raised and still living in Helmond. Yes, there is always a

Let’s end with the start, my first Innovum event I went to, Team building 2021. Before I came in contact with Innovum, I was the stereotypical introvert who did not know how the world works. Now, I still think I do not know how the world works, but it is getting a bit better every day. Anyways, on the first day I immediately felt a warm welcome from everyone. I hope to give the same kind of energy and feeling to as much people as possible.

Dear everyone that reads this. My name is Willem van Asten, I’m 22 years old and I study mechatro nics. I started in 2017 and I’m now in my 4th year. I live in Lierop but sadly I had to be born in Hel mond.

I have always been interested in technical stuff and could always be found messing with machines I should not be messing with. And ever since I got rid of my toxic ex half a year ago, I’ve been get ting more and more interested in partying, drinking and being free from the chains that bound me.

I will rarely say no to grabbing a drink, which might sound like I don’t have a spine. It might be weak, but it is definitely there.

I will be the next treasurer for In novum after only being a member for half a year. But even after such a short amount of time with Inno vum, I already want to give it my best to give back to this organiza tion. And even though inflation is screwing everyone in the ass, I will make sure Innovum will keep the money rolling.

The first Innovum event I went to is technically my intro, but that did not last very long. After nearly 5 years, I went to my second event which was the LAN-party. That gave me the motivation to get more into Innovum which led to me join the Intro crew. There, a certain person, Hidde, convinced me to run for board. To which my little brother Gijs said that he would eat his shoe if I joined, ha ving no faith in my willingness to run for board. And yes, I am the OLDER! brother of Gijs van Asten

Together they will be the innovum board for 2022-2023

Blikje Blaffen

The association drink is a room temperature can of schultenbrau. The preffered consumption method of this classy drink is called “Blikje blaffen”. This is a method of drinking canned beer.

It is simmilar to Shotgunning in that a hole is punched in the can through wich the beverage is consumed. The process goes as followed: the can is violently shaked and then a hole is pun ched with a Blaffer (a pointy object) A stream of beer will come out of the hole. This stream can be aimed at someone during a ritualistic blaffing. You can shake the can to increase the pressure and accelerate the flow of beer and reach of the stream. After the pressure in the can has dropped, or the person your aiming at is soaked in beer you have to drink the remaining beer all at once.

You are allowed to open the can to let air in and improve the flow of beer trough the hole. The optimal place of making the hole is at the bottom of the can, see in the image above. The Blaf fer is a pointy object which can be anything like a screwdriver, a pen or your keys. The size of the hole you make is important. If you make a hole too large the pressure will drop too fast. If you make the hole too small you will have a low flow of beer and trouble drinking through the hole. If you smash the beer too violently you will create a massive hole in the can which causes the pressure to drop instantly and all the beer to fly out of the can. If your can breaks like this you will be soaked and left with one sip of beer.

Good luck.

Tips & Tricks to Survive Hangovers

I think we can all agree that han govers are the worst. I mean, one time I was so hungover that I had a headache and a stomach-ache simultaneously, whilst also trying to fight vertigo (dizziness). To be fair, with my current mentality, it’s a given.

So, one question you might be having is: why do we get hang overs? Well, your alcoholic friend probably shouldn’t have had that much alcohol to drink in the first place. When you drink more alcohol, your body will urinate more, causing your body to be more dehydrated. More alcohol also causes a decrease in digesti on. This decrease in the speed of your digestive system will mean that your stomach will contain more food for longer, resulting in more stomach acid. This will then cause nausea and sickness. So, less alcohol means better feeling in the morning.

But, if everyone stopped drinking altogether, this article would be useless (also, fewer people would have fun). Therefore, I will try to help you (or your alcoholic friend) recover from a hangover. Some tricks may help more than others, so if you try all of them, some thing should.

Let’s start with some biology. I know, a lot of us are engineers and may have a strong dislike to what happens internally in our bodies, but it helps to think of the human being as a complex biological machine.

Included below is an image with someone’s digestive system (inclu ded for educational purposes rela ting to extracurricular activities). What happens when you drink, is the alcohol goes into your mouth and through your oesophagus, stomach, and intestines. Whatever is not digested/absorbed is then passed through your urinary tract.

You may be shocked by the fact that less alcohol is absorbed by the stomach compared to the small in testines. The stomach only absorbs 20% of the alcohol, whereas the small intestines absorb a whop ping 80% of the alcohol you drank whilst reading this article. There fore, we need ways to slow down the speed at which alcohol passes through our bodies. Fortunately, there are some tricks that can be used before and after a good night of drinking to make us feel better in the morning.

Before we start drinking, we can do some things to reduce the han gover feeling in the morning. The main thing we want to do before, is to increase the time the alcohol remains in our stomachs. This is so that the stomach is absorbing the drink instead of the small inte stine (therefore, less alcohol goes through the small intestine, where it’s absorbed faster).

We can do this by lining the stomach with grease. Anything which is deep fried will be perfect. Burgers are great as well. If you are going to be drinking, you might as well go for a steak as well. I mean if you want the night of your life, why not make a day of it too?

Now you are ready to start drin king. But what if you drank more than you normally would, and your hangover is worse than ever?

Well, there are also things you can do when you wake up. A good idea may be to fill up a water bot tle with some water or some fruit juice. This will help rehydrate you, which may help with that splitting headache. Some foods may help with the hangovers. Eating some thing salt may help, and bananas will definitely replace any lost potassium from drinking alcohol.

Sleeping the hangover off is also a good idea. If you wake up and still have a headache, go back to sleep. Alternatively, painkillers will also help with hangovers. Recommended painkillers are ibuprofen or aspirin, but any non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) will work.

My personal favourite is another drink. My personal favourite morning brew is something called an “Irish Coffee”. It is made by first making some coffee. The second ingredient is some Irish Whiskey (but any other type of whiskey also works). Give it a stir, then add some cream on top.

A variant of “Irish coffee” is ano ther caffeinated alcoholic beverage called “Rüdesheimer Kaffee” from Rüdesheim am Rhein in Germany. It’s made by adding brandy and sugar cubes are added to a cup. The brandy/sugar is then flambeed (set on fire) and stirred until the sugar dissolves. Strong coffee is added, followed by a topping of thickly whipped cream sweete ned with vanilla sugar. Chocolate flakes are scattered onto the cream as a garnish. Depending on how they’re made, both drinks are amazing. They should taste like sweetened coffee with a very small taste of alcohol.

I know it is not recommended to drink a lot of alcohol when hung over, but research has proved that small amounts of alcohol does relieve some pain. It helped me a little, but maybe it’s not for eve ryone…

may not be the best to help your hangover.

I hope this small article helps the next time you are out with friends. Be safe and have fun. ^^

So, to sum up: Be prepared when going to a party: have some greasy food before drinking. Anything with fat also helps

After a night out (the hangover is bad) take some painkillers. Drink lot of water to stay hydrated and sleep until the hangover wears off. An alcoholic caffeinated drink may also help, but too much alcohol on the day after the party
