Individual Support From Our Student Success Centre
Our personalized guidance program introduces and guides each student in researching post-secondary programs, volunteer opportunities, academic counselling, course selection and much more. Senior School students have support available from four counsellors.
TEACHER ADVISOR GROUP (TAG)
All students are placed in a TAG with approximately nine other students and one faculty advisor. Each week, there is dedicated time for TAG and the students see their advisor two times a week in homeroom. The TAG time is built into every student’s schedule to allow time for students to build a relationship with their advisor so that their advisor can guide them in their social, emotional and academic well-being.

Senior School Trinitarian Award
The Trinitarian Award is designed to encourage student engagement and enable students to take ownership of their individual growth. The award has three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – and is centred on five components: physical recreation, arts, community service, global education and leadership.
PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
Project-based learning is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying. Project-based learning builds important core skills and competencies for the workplace and life including critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and communication, including using a variety of media and presentation skills. The following are two examples of yearly projects: Grade 9 Business Trade Show and Grade 11 Physics Roller Coaster Project.
Interdisciplinary learning is the process of integrating information techniques, tools and concepts from a variety of disciplines. Here are some examples of our interdisciplinary projects: Sustainable Dwellings, Fashion Forward and the Poetry Project.
Leadership Opportunities
HTS students are encouraged to participate in leadership programs designed to prepare them for post-secondary and beyond. Our students receive training and support from faculty mentors through regular planning meetings and frequent hands-on leadership opportunities. In addition, there are several trips and Breakaway experiences available to Senior School leaders which are intended to further hone their leadership skills while working with their younger peers. The larger leadership roles include:
• Club Leaders
• House Captains
Experiential Education
• Prefects
• Student Council
There are opportunities for cultural and service experiences abroad, and past and current trips include:
• Grade 9 French trip to Saint-Donat, QC
• Senior Band trip to Europe
• Model UN trips to Montreal, Washington and Vancouver
• Senior Boys Soccer Tour in England
• Cultural and service trips to countries such as: Costa Rica, Peru, Tanzania and Thailand
• Academic and cultural trip to Spain with IE University
