The department named their 3,200 gallon water tanker “Big Mike” in August 2018 on his 40-year anniversary with the department. “He knew that truck and he loved to

drive that truck,” said Chief Maniet. When Park recruited Rivard back in 1985, no one could even imagine that he would be such an integral part of the Howe Fire Department and the history of the City of Howe.

City Council meets On Tuesday, the Howe City Council approved Ordinance 787 amending Ordinance No. 711, revising Section 826 specific pollutant limitations. It repeals any ordinance conflict. The penalty shall not exceed $2,000 for violation of the ordinance. The council also approved Resolution No. 2022-0001 which authorized continuing participation with the steering committee of cities served by Oncor. The resolution authorized the city to pay $0.10 per capita to the steering committee to fund regulatory and legal proceedings and activities related to Oncor Electric Delivery Company, LLC. Howe Police Chief Carl Hudman reported for the month of January that the Howe Police Department answered 211 calls of service, generated 19 reports, had three felony arrests, three misdemeanor arrests, wrote 108 citations, and responded to five motor vehicle accidents. The department has one opening for an officer with one in training. City Secretary Kerri Pruitt said there were 1,237 utility bills sent out in the amount of $186,884. One new housing was pulled in

the month of January. The court saw a revenue of $16,880. Monte Walker, director of economic development told the council that the sales tax figures for February were a record $56,677 topping Oct. 2020. He said he has met with a number of retail developers looking to develop the Howe market especially on US Highway 75. He said since the Texas Instruments announcement, the interest in commercial and residential has peaked. Walker said that a grocer remains the city’s number one target and they remain steadfast during this opportunity. Fire Chief Robert Maniet said the fire department responded to 54 calls, of which 85 percent were medical. They had one structure fire and two motor vehicle accidents. He reminded those that grass fire season is upon us as they worked two the day of the meeting. He said the renovations at the fire departments are nearly complete.
