Pretty soon our brown Bermuda yards will start to see a transition period where it will once again see life. Therefore, it is time now to do any last-second weed killing. I’m not one that likes to put down any negative products (weed prevention) on the yard once it comes out of dormant stage, although it is certainly okay to do so. My recommendations are Image All -In-One Weed Killer which does goes to the root. It eliminates Dandelion, Crabgrass, Nutsedge, Clover, and Bittercress. But be sure and give this product time—such as two or three weeks. You’ll be fooled that it is not working, but since it attacks the root, you won’t get immediate gratification. This product is fine for tall fescue or perennial ryegrass as well. If you haven’t done so by now, put down your pre-emergent immediately. The product I recommend is Andersons Barricade Professional-Grade Granular PreEmergent Weed Control which contains 0.48 percent of the active ingredient prodiamine - labeled to prevent over 30 grass and broadleaf weeds.
fertilizer as much as a soil treatment. When your lawn wakes up, it will have the healthiest breakfast in years. Once your yard is transitioning into the green stage, it’s time for the spring scalp and to put a heavier jump starting fertilizer such as 164-8 which 16 percent Nitrogen, 4 percent phosphate, and 8 percent potassium. I’m a big believer in humic acid also, so one product recommended is Andersons Professional PGF Complete 16-4-8 Fertilizer with Humic DG. These products can be found on Amazon, but you can find similar items at local feed stores such as Garner Feed & Seed in Sherman. Making the decision to have a nice Bermuda yard this season will require some planning and maintenance, but it also is a great way to become one with the soil and sure is fun to see the results of a well-maintained lawn.
As of right now, it’s a good time to pre-scalp your lawn down in height and be sure and pick up your brown grass clippings. There is no nutritional value to your clippings when it’s brown (and it will make ugly bunch rows when it rains). Then treat your lawn with a balance fertilizer such as 10-10-10. This is not a yard
