In Oklahoma, Trump was on pace to receive four times the number of votes of the last two incumbent presidents. Eight days later, the country was shut down by COVID-19.

Pets were home-schooled during the ice storms

Many people were just trying their best to survive during the recent ice storms, but A-1 Dog Grooming and Boarding Kennels east of Howe were home to eight dogs during the event that eventually led away from the kennel location into the home of owner Kristin Pruitt.

A-1 had to turn away potential customers due to the horrifying cold conditions. But two families left town previously which meant only four puppies were on location for the storm. Beginning Monday, the four dogs along with four family dogs entered the Pruitt home. uled to be picked up on Tuesday, but the owners were stuck in Ohio and couldn’t get back until Thursday. Another set of puppies were to be picked up on Sunday, but their owners got back from Cancun a day early and retrieved their furry friends.

A-1 Dog Grooming has a total of 24 runs which can house a maximum of around 50 dogs. They will be at capacity during most of the summer and during spring break. Kristin Pruitt is a thirdgeneration owner and has operated it since January 2010.

“We don’t take dogs to our home except for extreme circumstances,” said Pruitt who had the operation without water for a period of time.

The Howe Lady Bulldogs (2-3) opened the week with a 10-1 loss at home to Pottsboro before entering the Van Alstyne Tournament at the end of the week. Howe lost to 4A Anna, 18-7 and then 4A Van Alstyne, 12-1. But the hometown girls battled back to round out the tournament with an 11-0 win over 6A Garland Lakeview Centennial.

On Tuesday, Pottsboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Hannah Dwyer stole home to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning. However, the Lady Cardinal lead was extended to 4-1 in the second inning. They added three more in the fourth, and one run in each of the final three frames for the win.

Howe had a total of four singles in the game which came from Railyn Murphy, Gracie Lankford, Alexia Womack, and Chloe Scoggins. Micaiah Franklin pitched four innings and gave up two earned runs, striking out three while walking five.

Ryleigh Craven got the start in the circle against Anna and went three innings allowing five hits, two earned runs with three strikeouts and 10 walks. She was followed by Franklin who pitched an inning giving up three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one. Womack hit two doubles and Scoggins col-

lected two singles in the loss.

Franklin got the start against Van Alstyne and went 3.2 innings allowing one earned run on nine hits. Harley Brockelman got the final out of the game on a strikeout. Howe was held to two hits, a triple by Womack and a single by Murphy.
