Lady Bulldogs lose to Blue Ridge and Gunter

The Howe Lady Bulldogs lost to Blue Ridge in three sets on Tuesday and three sets to Gunter on Friday. The scores Tuesday in favor of Blue Ridge were 25-14, 24-18, and 25-20. Sierra Copeland led Howe in kills with eight with Hannah Dwyer adding five. Holly Cavender led Howe with all 15 assists and Gracie Lankford led the Lady Bulldogs with seven digs. Alexandra Blount had the
only Howe ace. On Friday, the Gunter Lady Tigers beat Howe by scores of 2516, 25-9, and 25-9. Copeland led Howe with four kills with Dwyer following with two. Cavender had all seven assists and added the only ace. Lankford was the leader in digs with five. Copeland also had one block. Howe will travel to Bonham on Tuesday and will host Bells Friday.
HHS senior athlete of the week The student athlete of the week is Jake Fabacher. He’s involved in cross country, basketball, and track. He’s also a member of the National Honor Society. He moved to Howe in third grade and credits Mrs. Vanna Foster as a teacher that has inspired him the most. “She was my third grade reading teacher and she was super involved with all the kids then and I still keep in touch with her now,” said Fabacher. “I think she’s someone I could go to now if I needed something.” After four years of cross country, he won his first race a week ago. “It was a good feeling to finally finish first and all the hard work is starting to pay off,” said Fabacher who runs 40 miles per week which will increase to 55 as district approaches.
Fabacher says he’s excited for the basketball season and says he’s been working with new head Coach Jay Forsyth. “I think the team this year is going to be like night and day from the last couple of years and it’s really going to come out of nowhere,” said Fabacher. “I don’t think anyone is expecting us to be as good as we’re going to be.” He says he plans to run track in college but is unsure where at this time. “I definitely won’t figure that out until after track season, but I’m excited for it,” said Fabacher.
