The Howe Bulldogs baseball season is underway and they have stockpiled their schedule to this point with larger schools to prepare for district play. Howe started the week with a 9-8 loss at Whitesboro where the Dogs gave up no earned runs. Freshman Austin Haley threw 2.1 perfect innings in relief to keep Howe in the game, but a late run couldn’t be pushed across to knot it up. Dylan Hughes was 2-for-4 with a home run and Jalen Thornton went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to lead the Bulldogs. Kolby Windon was the starting pitcher who went the first two innings. Howe then lost to Melissa 4-1 as the Dogs only run came on a Carson Daniels RBI that drove in Luke Lopez. The Bulldogs then fell short against Allen’s JV, 14-1. Howe’s run came when Thornton brought home Layton Elvington. Garrett Grigg, Daniels combined on the mound for the loss.
Howe then lost to Prosper’s JV, 11-1 with Ethan Lopez bringing in Parker Pecina for Howe’s lone run. Howe then lost to Pilot Point, 7-1 with Thornton driving home Hughs for Howe’s run. Pecina went 4.1 innings not allowing an earned run. Howe then lost to Pilot Point again, this time 9-0 on a nearperfect game by Morgan. Grigg walked to keep it from a perfect game. Howe finished out the week with a 7-3 loss to Greenville. Hughs, Thornton, and Matt Hayes each had two hits to lead Howe. Hayes got his first start and went 2 innings allowing no earned runs. He did, however, allow 5 walks in the outing. Howe has not been helped out defensively as they allowed 27 errors in the 7 games this week.
