Hogenson continued from page 3 doesn't bother me. I'm used to kids playing. It just kind of morphed into that. It wasn't super quiet when I came. And I didn't expect it to be super quiet. We didn't go around shushing everybody. Different things happened, like our area with the toys. We had parents that would bring children and the kids were sitting there bored, so we said, “Let's put toys out there.” And sure enough that worked out well. And then we had after school programs. It was more of an evolution process and I think more than anything, we wanted to make the library welcoming, let people feel good to come in here and hang out for a while. And it's not just a place to check out books or use computers, but it is a place to hang out and visit with your buds or do scrapbooking or whatever it is that people want to do. But that is how libraries are changing, too. People think it's about books only, but it's not. It's so much more than that. I think, ideally the library should be the hub for the community. It should be the information source, and a place where everybody can work out of - a place where everybody knows your name, like the neighborhood bar on the TV sitcom “Cheers.” We've had people say that have continued on page 5
