Chamber preparing for 30th Annual Founders Day

Duane Peters to return to Howe's 30th Founders Day. He performed at the initial Founders Day in 1986. The Howe Area Chamber Commerce met on Monday night to discuss upcoming events including the 30th Annual Founders Day Celebration which will be held in Downtown Howe on May 7. In the meeting, the chamber decided to hold a "Touch a Truck" event which will consists of large trucks such as tractors, combines, fire trucks, semi-trucks and others that kids can climb in and have their pictures taken in. The entry fee for this event will go to repair the parks in Howe.

Also, the chamber mentioned that they already have quite a list of vendors that have reserved spaces for the 2pm - 8pm festivities. The popular lawn mower race will make its second appearance in a row and rumor has it Mayor Jeff Stanley has been working on a lawnmower that is sure to win in 2016.
The City Lights Band will start with a two hour live set at 3pm. Fierce Motions Dance Studio in Van Alstyne will perform for thirty minutes in the street starting at 5pm. Then a musician who played in the very first Founders Day in Howe, Duane Peters & Simply Blessed will perform a two-hour show starting at 6 pm.
Other events include a horseshoe tournament, live pie auction, and scavenger hunt. The chamber is contemplating bringing back events from the 1986 celebration such as the bubble blowing contest, egg toss, cow chip throw and beard contest.
