Chamber recovers old Howe photos for new office
L-R: Robert Cannaday, Jonathan Coleman, Becky Hogenson, Leandra Beckemeyer, Curt Beckemeyer During the icy weekend of Feb 28, Howe Economic Development Director Monte Walker received a message from a citizen stating that the Howe Estates Mobil Home Park had numerous historical photos of Howe and that they were owned by the chamber of commerce. Walker reached out to the park and their owners. He was told that the photos were there when they purchased the park and didn't know the history behind them. The current owners wanted to make sure that they were put in a good place where the city and citizens could appreciate them. Two of the photos are of the old train depot in Howe. One is a photo of the outside and one is of two workers on the inside of the building. There is also a large photo of the school that sits on Denny Street. It dates to about
the 1940s. Also, a class photo from 1923 was found outside of the previous school prior to the one built on Denny Street. A photo of men standing in front of the Ice House which was located on Hughes Street just north of downtown.
