Some of the most interesting things of the photo include the Texaco that appears due south out of the window on Denny Street. Also seen in far right is a small closet room that was once the ticket window for the Interurban train that once ran on Denny
Street until the 1940's
"The streets were full of people exchanging greetings " said Martin "I could always count on Pete and Mark Gee being there I was at the store at seven in the morning and worked until the last customer came in, walked home, grabbed a bit to eat, got a bath and dressed for my Saturday night date. I can hardly believe I had unending energy. For my day, I was very happy to receive $4.90, they took out 10 cents for supplemental security income. I was able to save my money and buy all my dresses for graduation and the parties They cost about $30 each and were smashing I also saved enough to buy a Mouton Jacket that cost $60 "
Jack Norman, a sophomore at the time of the photo, was new to Howe He was a transfer from Dorchester, who's school had just recently closed
"I'd only been to Howe about three times my entire life before then " said Norman "We had no reason to come to Howe because we always went to Sherman for everything we needed. When the school closed, Mr. Thompson came and talked to each of us about coming to Howe instead of going to Sherman. So we did."
The photos were in the possession of Janie Thompson Finney who scanned them and sent them to Monte Walker, the current owner of the building Walker has already sent them to be blown up to 3' x 4' and will both hang in the building where they were taken 60 years ago
Many people say that life in Howe is like the 1950's, but these photos prove that the 1950's not only existed, but looked as if they were born in downtown Howe
All of the hints of a once thriving cafe in the building were gone in the 1970's when it was turned into an appliance store The black and white tile was ripped up in 1978, the ticket window and doors on the west wall were bricked in. The big open wooden windows on the front were replaced by metal. The tall ceiling with the 1950's green beadboard was covered up by an office-style drop ceiling and the walls were covered with late 1970's popular wood paneling

Bonham over the weekend
Six of the eight teams in District 103A were in the playoffs in 2014 One of those teams that didn't make the playoffs was Pilot Point, but Ognoskie says that they are probably one of the best teams in the district in 2015
"They're bringing a lot of kids back and they have a lot of seniors " said Ognoskie. "They've got two pitchers that throw mid-80's (miles per hour) and our kids will be introduced to the baseball season quickly on Tuesday night."

The Bulldogs have lost starting ace Garrett Fulenchek to graduation and to the Atlanta Braves organization. They will turn the keys to the pitching rotation over to junior Griffin Underwood He'll start Tuesday night against Pilot Point
"I've only seen him throw out of the bullpen so far, but he's looked real good " said Ognoskie before the Bonham game on Saturday "He's a lot bigger and stronger than he was a year ago."
Without the luxury of all of those tournament games, Ognoskie hasn't been able to place a second starter just yet but says that it could be Josh Griffin or freshman David Crees Sophomore lefty Matt Griffin is scheduled to finish out games
"He's a guy that I can see coming in at the end of games and shutting the door." said Ognoskie. "He did that a couple of times for us last year."
But with the loss of the games played, Ognoskie says that it's just a difficult way to start the season.
"Losing those eleven games hurts me as a coach because I don't get a chance to evaluate some of the things that I want to see " said Ognoskie "You don't get a chance to make all of those mistakes in tournaments and move guys around like I did last year and see what fits But I do know where a lot of the kids need to be and where they belong, so it's about getting them ready now."
Brennan Ross will replace the speedy Randle Nix in centerfield Nix was also the leadoff hitter for the 'Dogs a year ago Ognoskie says that his brother Easton Ross will hit either first or second in the

"He (Easton) was a table-setter last year and I want to keep him there " said Ognoskie "Quinton drove in a lot of runs last year and was the cooffensive player of the year in our district How I build around them is something that I'll have to work through quickly"
Ognoskie likes the way Underwood has swung the bat so far in the gym and is returning five-hole hitter Caleb Ake and six-hole hitter Zach Blevins He says that he likes Nick Wilson and Brennan Ross in the eight and nine slots because of their speed and ability to get on base.
"They'll see a lot of fastballs down there." said Ognoskie. "Those younger guys, like Brennan, who haven't hit at the varsity level need a year to see a lot of fastballs in the bottom of the order"
The mainstay in the field is going to be shortstop Easton Ross Ake will return at third base Underwood will play second base when he's not pitching Ognoskie says that Tanner Stubblefield could possibly play second base while Underwood is pitching Quinton Harris will return to first base and Ognoskie says that Triston Matthews is pushing
"I haven't got to see much of those guys They haven't got to catch a full game like I wanted them to " said Ognoskie "I'll just have to continue to evaluate that as I go on "
Nick Wilson will return to left field from a year ago and the freshman David Crees is slated to play rightfield
So far, Crees is known for taking a Garrett Fulenchek 90 mph fastball to the upper back in the Howe Alumni Game. However, Fulenchek could've symbolically passed the torch to Crees as the next big prospect in the organization.
"He's impressive for a freshman in terms of his demeanor" said Ognoskie "He's just very calm and even keeled, kind of like Garrett was If you're going to play up as a freshman, you have to have that mentality I don't like to play freshman, but he's not going to hurt us, he's going to help us "
Howe won both games against Bonham on Saturday In game one, the Dogs took a 5-3 win behind a
