Chung Sin Mei Anna 鍾 倩 薇
As a modern Chinese woman living in Hong Kong, multiple roles and experience as a mother, daughter, and wife, make me reflect on my womanhood and inspire my artworks. My art practice is often intuitive, the outcomes often unpredictable. Every moment of conveying my thoughts is part of a open ended creative process. My artworks originate from the self and extend to the society. By exploring different materials and media (clay, ceramics, gold foil, lines, paints and various elements), I observed the women around me intently. I conducted in-depth interviews with them, engaging them in open, interactive art-making processes, thereby capturing the multi-faceted nature of women nurtured by the east-meet-west society of Hong Kong. Under the dual influences of traditional Chinese culture and Western independent spirit, Hong Kong Chinese women are a unique blend of apparent softness and inner strength. It is my intention, that the body of artworks developed, take into consideration and reflect; the individual and society, deconstruction to reconstruction, the self and the 'higher self'. 作為一位在香港生活的現代中國女性
