The world is full of messages and communications that are often unnoticed or misinterpreted due to our differences in culture, personality or the emotions we have when reading the messages.

I attempt to develop a visual language that reveals concealed emotions in conversations or connections in human relationships. Light and shadow serve important roles in my artworks as they suggest the impermanent and transient quality of communication. The layering of images or objects is also used in my practice as metaphors for both intimacy and obscurity in conversation. The language of abstraction is important to me in expressing the complexity of communication as I make a series of artworks using everyday physical objects, prints or videos that explore silent languages. I attempted to show how a familiar language could seem to be distant or foreign to us due to diverse cultural, historical, personal backgrounds, or mode of expression.
