The BridgeMill News is a monthly, 8 ½ x 11 inch, four-color publication. You may send completed digital ads directly to: mark.hutton@hmsgolf.com. If you have your own design work and would like to advertise in our newsletter, we will need a color ad (camera ready copy, pdf format preferred) and payment for the ad size selected.

The following rates are for full-color, camera ready artwork that can be submitted in a pdf file, maintaining all formatting.

We can provide design and layout work if needed. There is a minimum $50 charge with the price after we receive your information.

First-time ads are accepted on a space-available basis, with placement based on the date we receive both your camera ready copy and payment. Once your ad has appeared in the newsletter, you may advertise continuously by making advance payments by the first of the month prior to the month of publication. For example, copy and payments for the September issue will be due August 1st. While we may accept ads after that deadline, ads will revert to spaceavailable and will be in line for placement based on the date we receive your payment.

If you prefer continuous placement for several months, you may pay for these months in advance. While there is ordinarily no discount for multiple months, you can secure a 10% discount at this time if you prepay for six months or more. GOLF ACADEMY TIPS

CONTROL YOUR CLUBFACE FOR STRAIGHTER SHOTS

Three primary reasons your ball will travel off target:

1. Alignment 2. Swing Path 3. Clubface The clubface has the most influence on where the ball goes! If you have ever seen a ball slice to the right, we know that the clubface had to be open. Normally, I see a poor grip attached to a club face control issue. A great place to start is to check your grip! Look at the three different types of grips in the attached picture and notice the club face that correlates to each grip. If your ball tends to go right, try strengthening your grip and watch the difference in your ball flight.

GOLF NEWS The results for the 2018 MGA Shootout are in and it was a great day of competitive golf. A special thanks to Anthony, Maria, Andy, and their crews for a great job throughout the event.

On Saturday, August 18th, almost 50 players in 5 flights took to the course with the hope that they would come away as the Shootout Champion. In addition to the MGA Championship, MGA Player of the Year (POY) points were up for grabs. A big congratulations to Steve Ritter who came out of the first flight to shoot even par for the 4-hole shootout and become the 2018 MGA Shootout Champion. Steve bested Jack Quigley on the final shootout hole as Jack makes a trip to finals two years in a row.

Congratulations to all who won their flights and trophys. The complete results, pro-shop payouts, and POY points are available at the MGA Website. Also included on the MGA website are the MGA Player of the Year standings. We have 2 more events remaining which will be counted in the POY race.

BridgeMill MGA vs Lake Arrowhead MGA Challenge Cup event is planned for October 13th and 14th. The top 17 players in the POY standings will receive an invite to play. If those players are unable to commit to the 2 day event, the next in line will be invited. So it’s important to collect those points and move up the standings! This is also a busy time of year for club events. The club events do not count towards the MGA POY standings.

GOLF NEWS BridgeMill LGA Update by Molly Maher

October is here and one of the most beautiful months to play golf at BridgeMill. Though the leaves can make it a little tricky to find your ball, we all enjoy the cooler temps and shorter days as we move toward the end of Daylight Savings Time on November 4th. We will have later tee times in the am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so call the club to verify the times and remember our Wednesday evening group at 5:45. October is the perfect time to play evening golf!

Saturday October 13th will be the next golf tournament. Evites with all the details will be sent the first week in October. If you do not receive the information, please contact Nancy Gillenwater at nkgillenwater@yahoo.com as all evites are sent to the last known email address. If you have changed your information, please let us know so we can keep our record current.

October 5-26 will be the next fall program for Operation Thirty Six. If you are interested in improving your swing and meeting other ladies that want to learn more about the game of golf, please contact Bill Murchison at bmurchison@pga. com or 770 345 5557.

Our season will end on October 31, but many of us continue to play through the winter. The ladies will continue to go out weather permitting, so call the club to check on the tee times set up for the day you want to play. FITNESS INFERNO Tuesdays, 8:30am with Holly 10 rounds of cardio intertwined with body weight and strength exercises for a moderate to high intensity workout.

YOGA Tuesdays, 12:00pm and Friday, 9:30am with Melissa Focuses on basic yoga stretching/strengthening/balancing poses and is appropriate for all ages/levels of fitness. Yoga mats are available.

YOGASTRENGTH Tuesdays, 7:00pm with Eric Includes the postures used in basic Yoga at a much quicker pace, with the addition of more advanced moves. A Yoga mat and towel are recommended.

Checking in ensures that you will not be bumped off the court in the middle a match because it was previously reserved. It also helps the staff know what courts are being used and who is on them.

The tennis courts are for Club members and their guests only. Accompanied guest fees are $10 per person. Athletic members and their guests are also required to pay the $10 per person court fee. Court fees should be paid before play.

Unaccompanied guests are not allowed to use the tennis courts.

Stop by the Pro Shop for a complete schedule of adult drills. Be sure and get on our email distribution list to get up to date information on drills and events for adults.

EXCEL JUNIOR TENNIS ACADEMY FALL PROGRAM SCHEDULE EXCEL FUTURE STARS 5-7 years – This group uses the red dot ball to train and size appropriate equipment. Focus is on developing skills used in tennis in a fun way!

8-10 years – Geared for beginner players or those with little experience.

Group uses age appropriate equipment (orange dot ball). 1 hr classes.

11-12 years – Beginner level – Classes are 1 hour.

13-16 years – Beginner level – Classes are 1 hour EXCEL ACADEMY 12U intermediate – Uses the green dot ball to train 8-13 years – intermediate players – Uses regular balls to train High School & Advanced players (for players that play on a high school team or in tournaments) Sessions are 2 hours and include footwork and conditioning. TENNIS They call themselves the BridgeMill Chicks...

This new team started four seasons ago with a mix of mostly new players and a few experienced (and patient) ones!

Since that time the Chicks have been successful in a number of ways; they moved up the ranks quickly, they’ve created a very close team of players whose friendships go well beyond the courts, and, most notably, they turn heads with their over- the- top tennis match themes!

Led by their Captain Nicole Shippy and Co-Captain Courtney Carignan, The Chicks have brought Oktoberfest, PacMan, StarWars, Ancient Greece, Duck Dynasty, Christmas in July as well as many other themes to the courts of BridgeMill.

“We feel that you can have fun, be a little ridiculous and STILL be competitive” says Nicole, “We feel our team just plays better when they are relaxed and having a good time.”

That they do! Each Chick gets into the act by making themed food, wearing costumes, and donating props.

How do their opponents react? “Well, sometimes it takes them a minute to take it all in.” Courtney chuckled. “Most teams really enjoy and it takes the edge off for them too.”

bridgemill sixes service league BridgeMill Sixes Service League (BSSL) is gearing up for the Fall with lots of activities. Do you like to be social? Please join us on Thursday, October 4th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm for Painting for a Purpose. The cost is $35 and that includes all paints and a canvas to complete a beautiful take home painting. Just bring a snack, your own drink, and a friend! Reminder: wear paint friendly clothing. We will meet at the Terrace of BridgeMill and full instructions will be provided. Place the bag at the curb near your mailbox on Saturday, November 10th. A BSSL member will be by to pick it up by about 10 am. All items will be delivered to MUST Ministries in Canton to be given out to families in Cherokee County.
