Maserati GranCabrio Technical Introduction
Preface The GranCabrio (in some markets also named GranTurismo Convertible) is the third model, after the Quattroporte and GranTurismo, to be using the Quattroporte platform introduced in 2003. As a full four-seater cabriolet, it naturally completes Maserati’s model range: customers looking for top performance combined with world class luxury and true Italian style can now make the choice between a 4-door sedan, a true Gran Turismo coupé and the delights of open top motoring in a stylish cabriolet. The GranCabrio is using the technical base of the GranTursimo S Automatic. It shares the same platform and also its wheelbase is identical to its coupé sister model. Under the bonnet we can find the same 4.7L wet sump engine boosting 440 hp, combined with the 6-speed automatic transmission from ZF. This document aims to provide the Maserati Service technician with all the needed background information to diagnose and to carry out the necessary service operations and repairs on the described vehicle. It gives an overview of all technical aspects of the car, but the focus is of course on the systems that differentiate it from its coupé sister model: the soft top roof construction in the first place, but also important new systems and components related to active and passive safety.
