Towing the vehicle

General Information

In case it is necessary to tow the vehicle, screw the towing eye completely till the end into the towing eye attaching point. Put the gearbox in its neutral position and disengage the EPB.

Note: if the vehicle is towed with the front wheels lifted and the ignition key ON, an error code will be stored inside the NFR which must be cleared afterwards

Note (2): towing must be limited (max distance 100 km and max speed 60 km/h) to avoid gearbox damage due to insufficient lubrication

Lifting and jacking

Use the indicated points only for lifting or jacking of the vehicle:

1. Engine

The engine of the GranCabrio is indicated as F136YI It is directly derived from the F136YH engine, which is used in the GranTurismo S Automatic model

Engine characteristics:

• All aluminium 90 degrees V8 with a capacity of 4.7L and wet sump lubrication system. High efficiency combustion chambers.

• Low pressure variable valve timing system (VVT) on the intake camshafts. Timing variators with a 60° angular stroke allow a more retarded default timing and therefore a more stable idling

• Flex plate instead of engine flywheel for the attachment of the hydraulic torque convertor of the automatic transmission.

• Motronic ME9.1.1 engine control system, compliant with Euro 5 and LEV II emission standards. The Motronic ECU (NCM) is located in the engine bay.

• The exhaust system is a carry-over from the GranTurismo S Automatic model The rear silencers are fitted with by-pass valves which open at 3000rpm when the Sport mode is activated

Compression ratio: 84 5 mm

Maximum power output: 11 25:1

Max engine speed: 4,750 rpm

Mechanical engine timing

The mechanical engine timing values are the same for all 4.7L engines with 60°timing variators (F136YG, F136YH. F136YI):

Intake timing adjustment:

Turn the engine to 25° after Top Dead Center, corresponding with a piston stroke of 5,09 mm. The intake tappet downstroke should measure 0,60 ± 0,08 mm

Exhaust timing adjustment:

With the crankshaft in Top Dead Center with the engine in overlap position, the exhaust tappet downstroke should measure 0,60 ± 0,08mm

Specific items of the F136YI engine

The F136YI engine is directly derived from the F136YH engine. It differs on the following points:

• New lay-out of the blow-by hose

• New lay out of the fuel hoses, both in the engine compartment as underneath the vehicle

• New design of the fuel rails

• Specific mono-tube water hose

Most modifications were made to allow the fitment of box section steel reinforcement elements in the engine bay, which are specific for the GranCabrio model (see chapter 9: Body for more details)

Fuel tank

Also the aluminium fuel tank has a new lay-out It has been redesigned to fit underneath the soft top storage space, behind the rear seats. It has a slightly reduced capacity of 75 litres (included 7.5L of reserve).

The fuel tank is fitted with an external vapour separator and anti-evaporation system (EVAP). The charcoal canister is a carry-over form the GranTurismo model.

The centrally fitted Bosch fuel pump unit is slightly modified to fit the new shape of the fuel tank Also the floater lever of the fuel level sender is specific for the same reason Max capacity: 154l/h

3. Transmission

The transmission of the GranCabrio is a carry over from the GranTurismo S Automatic model The GranCabrio is available with automatic transmission only

Char

• Ar ed to the engine, propeller shaft, rear di

• 6- c torque converter (ZF 6HP26) and integrated ECU (Mechatronic)

• Electronically controlled with both automatic and manual driving modes. Gearshift paddles fitted to the steering column.

• Transmission gear ratios: 1st gear 4,171; 2nd gear 2,340; 3rd gear 1,521; 4th gear 1,143; 5th gear 0,867; 6th gear 0,691; R 3,403

• Asymmetric limited slip differential (25% in traction, 45% in release) with bevel drive and final ratio 3 73 (15/56)

• Steel propeller shaft, 69 mm diameter, articulated in two pieces with three constantvelocity joints, and supported at the centre with a bearing which is integral with a support cross member tightened to the chassis.

In analogy with the GranTurismo and Quattroporte models with automatic gearbox, the transmission of the GranCabrio is maintenance free This means that no periodical oil change for the gearbox or the differential is required

In case components of the transmission line have been removed or replaced, the transmission shaft balancing procedure must be carried out.
