2.1

General information

This operator's manual provides information on the use, adjustment, and operation of your CLAAS rotary swather.

Please note that the CLAAS rotary swather is also simply called 'machine' in the following chapters.

Follow the advice on maintenance and service for your machine in order to obtain maximum performance and long service from the swather.

Assembly and regular inspections of your machine should be carried out by your specialist workshop.

Neglect in maintenance or service, and incorrect use will result in poor machine efficiency and loss of time.

With correct operation and maintenance, you will benefit from the technical know-how and experience that went into the design of the machine, and your rotary swather will always work reliably.

2.2.2 Identification plate When ordering spare parts, and in all correspondence, please state the Serial No. (Fz-Ident-Nr.) (2). This is necessary to ensure that you receive the correct spare parts.

The identification plate (1) with the machine's Serial No. (Fz-Ident-Nr.) (2) is located at front left of the main frame.

In addition, the Serial No. (2) is punched into the machine frame on the right.

4.1

Of special importance

In order to prevent accidents, the instructions contained in this operator's manual should be read carefully and observed by all persons involved with the operation, maintenance, and inspection of this machine.

Especially the sections “Safety rules” and “Prior to operation” should be read and followed with utmost care.

The use of spare parts, accessories, and ancillary equipment which have not been manufactured originally by CLAAS, or have not been checked and approved by CLAAS, can change the specified design characteristics of the CLAAS machine or can detract from its functional performance, with a possible adverse effect on the machine's active and/or passive safety and its working safety (accident prevention).

CLAAS are in no way liable for any damage or personal injury caused through the use of other than original or approved CLAAS parts, accessories, and ancillary equipment.

Technical specifications, dimensions, and weights are understood with the usual tolerances.

Front, rear, right, and left always refer to the direction of travel.

4.1.1 Prop stand Danger!

There is a risk of injury during all work on or under a raised machine.

– Any work under the chocked up swather may only be carried out if the machine has been properly secured.

– Make sure that the machine is standing on firm ground.

– Only use suitable supports or chocks.

– Lower the prop stand (1).

The prop stand (1) may be used as a safety support.

Attention!

The prop stand (1) is designed only to support the machine's weight. If the load on the stand is increased e.g. by means of the tractor's hydraulic hitch, the stand could be damaged.

– Do not place an extra load on the prop stand by means of the tractor's hydraulics.

Safety rules

Before putting the machine into operation, read the operator's manual and follow the safety instructions!

4.2.1 Identification of warning and danger signs All parts of this manual having to do with your safety or the safe operation of the machine are marked with the following signs. Please pass all safety instructions on to other users, too.

Environment!

Sign to indicate instructions which must be observed in order to avoid damage to the environment.

Danger to the environment is caused by irregular handling and incorrect disposal of toxic material (e.g. old oil).

4.2.2 Designated use

Danger!

The CLAAS Rotary Swather is designed solely for use in customary agricultural operations (“intended use”).

Sign to indicate instructions which must be observed. Failure to do so would cause danger to life and limb to the operator and the people around him.

Any use other than this is considered not to be “intended use”; damage resulting from this is not the responsibility of the manufacturer; the risk is entirely that of the operator.

Sign to indicate instructions whose non-observance could result in injury of the operator or other people close by.

The designated use also includes strict adherence to the conditions of operation, service, and repair as specified by the manufacturer.

The CLAAS Rotary Swather should be operated, serviced and repaired only by persons familiar with its characteristics, and are aware of the dangers involved.

The relevant Accident Prevention Regulations, and all other generally accepted regulations on working safety, occupational health, and road traffic regulations must be observed at all times.

Unauthorized modifications made to the machine will exempt the manufacturer from all liability for any resulting damage or injury.

4.2.3 General safety and accident prevention regulations Basic rule:

Handling, steering, and braking will be affected by the attached or trailed machine, as well as counterweights.

Therefore, ensure adequate steering and braking power.

Always check the operational and road safety of tractor and machine before starting up.

When making turns, always take the width and/or inertia of the machine into account.

General:

Operate the machine only when all guards are fitted and correctly positioned.

In addition to the instructions contained in this operator's manual, also observe the general Safety and Accident Prevention Regulations.

The warning and instruction labels provide important instructions for danger-free operation; their observance increases your safety.

Always comply with local traffic regulations when driving on public roads.

Before starting work, familiarise yourself with all the controls and instruments, and their functions. During field work or road travel it is too late!

Clothing worn by the operator must be close-fitting.

Avoid wearing loose jackets, shirts or ties.

No persons are allowed to ride on the machine during field work and while travelling on the road.

Always hitch the machine to the tractor correctly, and only connect and secure the machine to the prescribed couplings.

Always place the prop stand in the correct position when hitching and unhitching the machine. (Firm stand!)

Ensure that nobody is within the machine's working or danger area.

Do not remain in the machine's turning and/or slewing range.

Remotely actuated (e.g. hydraulic) components present a risk of crushing/shearing.

Before leaving the tractor, secure the implement from rolling away. Lower any mounted implements fully to the ground. Stop the engine and remove the ignition key.

Nobody may be allowed to stand between the tractor and the machine before the machine is prevented from moving or rolling away, by applying the parking brake and/or fitting wheel chocks.

4.2.4 Mounted machines Before attaching/detaching machines to or from the 3-point hitch, move the control lever to a position in which unintentional raising or lowering is not possible.

Special care is required when hitching/unhitching the machine to/from the tractor.

When attaching mounted machines to the 3-point hitch, the linkage categories of tractor and machine must match, or the necessary modifications must be made.

Always attach counterweights by means of the fixing points provided for that purpose.

A risk of injury due to crushing or shearing exists in the vicinity of the 3-point hitch.

Observe the permissible transport lengths, widths and heights.

Do not stand between tractor and machine when operating the remote control for the 3-point hitch.

Check and fit the transport equipment - e.g. lighting, warning devices and possibly protection devices.

Always ensure that the tractor's 3-point hitch is adequately stabilised to prevent swaying with the machine in transport position.

Operating devices (ropes, chains, linkages, etc.) of remotely controlled equipment must be positioned in such a way that they cannot cause unintentional operation in any transport or operating situation.

For road travel, prepare the machine and secure or lock any moving parts as specified by the manufacturer.

Never leave the driver's cabin while the machine is moving.

Always adapt your driving speed to the surrounding conditions. Avoid making sharp turns when driving up or down slopes or when traversing an incline.

During road travel with the machine raised, the control lever must be locked to prevent unintentional lowering.

4.2.5 Trailed machines Secure the machine against rolling away.

Observe max. permissible load capacity of couplings, drawbar, and hitch.

Ensure sufficient movement at the hitch point when hooking up the machine's towbar.

4.2.6 PTO operation Only use universal drive shafts specified by the manufacturer.

4 Safety notes 4.2 Safety rules Always ensure that the guards for the universal drive shaft and PTO stub shaft are installed and in good condition. Make sure that universal drive shafts are properly covered by the guards, both in the transport and in the working position.

The hydraulic circuits of both tractor and implement must be depressurized before the hydraulic hoses are connected to the tractor's hydraulics.

Always disengage the PTO, stop the engine and remove the ignition key before attaching or detaching the universal drive shaft.

Both male and female couplings of hydraulic function lines between tractor and implement should be marked to prevent incorrect connection. Exchanging the couplings will reverse the functions, e.g. raising/ lowering. Safety hazard!

If universal drive shafts with overload or overrun clutches are used, which are not protected by the tractor's guard, the overload or overrun clutches must be installed next to the machine.

Inspect hydraulic hoses regularly, and replace them if damaged or deteriorated. Replacement hoses must meet the technical requirements specified by the implement manufacturer.

Always make sure that the universal drive shaft is correctly installed and securely fastened.

Use suitable aids to prevent injury when checking for leaks.

Use safety chains to prevent the drive shaft guards from rotating with the drive shaft.

Fluids (hydraulic fluid) escaping under high pressure can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury. In case of injury, consult a doctor immediately. Risk of infection!

Before engaging the PTO, ensure that the selected speed and direction of rotation of the tractor's PTO match the machine's permissible speed and direction of rotation.

Before engaging the PTO, ensure everybody stands clear of the machine at a safe distance.

Never engage the PTO while the tractor engine is switched off.

When operating the PTO, nobody may ever stand in the vicinity of the rotating PTO stub shaft or universal drive shaft.

Before doing any work on the hydraulic system, lower the machine, depressurize the hydraulic system, and stop the engine.

4.2.8 Tyres Before working on tyres or wheels, ensure that the machine is safely parked and secured so that it will not roll away (wheel chocks).

Fitting tyres and wheels requires special training, expert knowledge, and the correct tools.

Always disengage the PTO drive if the angle gets too tight and/or if the drive is not required.

Repair work on tyres and wheels may only be carried out by professionals and with suitable tools.

Attention! High-inertia implements run on after the PTO has been disengaged. Do not go near the implement before it has run down completely. Only when all machine movements have stopped, may work be started on the implement.

Check tyre pressures regularly. For recommended tyre pressures, see Specifications, page 20).

Never clean, lubricate, repair or adjust the PTO drive or the universal drive shaft unless the PTO has been disengaged, the engine is switched off, and the ignition key has been removed.

When disconnected from the PTO, the universal drive shaft must be secured in its holder or with a chain.

After uncoupling the universal drive shaft, the guard must be pushed over the PTO stub shaft.

Damaged or defective parts must be repaired immediately, before starting work with the machine.

4.2.7 Hydraulic system

4.2.9 Maintenance Repair, maintenance, and cleaning work, as well as troubleshooting should only be done with the drive and engine switched off – remove the ignition key!

Wait until all machine movements have stopped.

The repair of prestressed energy-storage devices (springs, hydraulic accumulators, etc.) requires proper training, equipment and experience, and may only be carried out in specialist workshops.

Regularly check the tightness of nuts and bolts, and retighten them as necessary.

When doing work on the raised machine, ensure that it is chocked up safely by means of suitable supports.

The hydraulic system is under high pressure.

When replacing working parts, always use suitable tools and wear safety gloves.

When connecting hydraulic cylinders or motors, ensure that the hydraulic hoses are connected correctly.

Dispose of oil, grease, and filters in the prescribed manner.

4 Safety notes 4.2 Safety rules Always disconnect the power supply leads before starting work on the electrical system.

Guards and protective devices that are subject to wear must be inspected at regular intervals, and replaced in good time.

Spare parts must at least comply with the technical standards required by the implement's manufacturer.

This is ensured e.g. by using original spare parts.

Before doing any electrical welding work on the tractor or mounted implements, always disconnect the leads from the battery and alternator.

4.2.10 Noise level If the driver is subjected to a noise level in excess of 85 dB (A) (see Specifications, page 20), he must wear ear protection.

Safety decals with pictorals

Safety decals are attached to the danger zones of the machine. The safety decals help to alert persons to hazards which can cause injury. The pictorials provide instructions to avoid the hazard.

These safety signs, their placement on the machine, and a brief explanatory text are shown on the following pages.

The CLAAS part number of every decal is stated ahead of the text.

The figure in ( ) refers to the adjacent picture and indicates the correct location of the decal on the machine.

Safety decals that are damaged or cannot be recognized any more, must be replaced immediately by new ones.

When parts that have decals are replaced, always make sure to install the relevant new decals with each new part.

Adapting the tractor

For operation of the CLAAS rotary swather, the tractor must be equipped as follows:

• Hydraulics – single-acting control unit with return flow or – dual-acting control unit.

• The tractor's hydraulic coupling must be adjusted for the max. permissible oil flow – see Specifications, page 20. See the tractor's operating manual, e.g. under “Continuous operation of hydraulic motors”.

• Electrical system – 2-pole power socket, suitable for the swather's max. current demand – see Specifications, page 20.

– Fit heavier cables, if necessary – see Power demand (supplementary equipment), page 22.

• Sufficient ballast weights on front axle.

6.1.1 Electrical system Power demand (supplementary equipment) Attention!

Overloaded or inadequate wiring can cause electrical faults that may cause cable fires.

– Observe maximum capacity of accessory socket.

– Observe the swather's max. current demand – see Specifications, page 20.

– If necessary, upgrade wiring.

Note!

If the voltage drop in the tractor's power supply is too high, the electro-hydraulic operation may not function correctly.

The voltage must be at least 10.8 V for correct operation of the solenoid valves on the rotary swather (measured at the solenoids).

6.1.2 Holder for Terminal/CLAAS Communicator/Operating terminal Install the holder for the operating terminal in the tractor cab in such a way that the Terminal/CLAAS Communicator or operating terminal is within easy reach during field work.

6.1.3 Ballast weights The tractor's front axle must always be loaded with at least 20% of the tractor's empty weight.

Take account of possible reduced pressure on the tractor's front axle, and to impaired steering due to the drawbar load! If necessary, add ballast weights to the front of the tractor.

Hitching/adapting the swather Danger!

When hitching the machine to the tractor, there is a risk of injury.

– No person is permitted between the tractor and the machine.

Any work under the raised swather may only be carried out if the machine has been properly secured.

– Chock up the machine securely, – also see Prop stand, page 10.

Work on the machine may only be carried out with the drive disengaged and the engine switched off.

– Switch off the engine.

– Remove the ignition key.

1. Check the scope of delivery against the delivery note.

2. Assemble the machine according to the separate instructions.

3. Make any necessary adaptations to the tractor – see Adapting the tractor, page 22.

4. Install the holder for the control unit in the tractor cab so it can be operated without difficulty during field work.

5. Adapt the swather's hydraulic system to the tractor hydraulics – see Adapting the hydraulics, page 26.

6. Hitch the swather to the tractor – see Hitching the machine, page 29.

7. Fit the universal drive shaft (see Mounting the universal drive shaft, page 30), and adapt its length, if necessary (see Adapting the universal drive shaft, page 25).

6.2.1 Adapting the hitching points The link pins of the hitch yoke (1) have been designed for a three-point, Category 2 rear hitch.

For tractors with ball hitches, fit the ball bushes (2) to the link pins, and secure them.

6.2.2 Adapting the universal drive shaft Before first-time operation, check the sliding length of the drive shaft with raised and lowered swather, and when driving through bends.

If necessary, the drive shaft length must be adapted as follows: Separate the two drive shaft sections, and push their ends onto the respective PTO shafts. Place the two sections alongside each other in their shortest operating position, and mark them.

3 Observe max. operating length (LB).

Ensure as much overlap as possible. During operation, the drive shaft may only be extended by half the overlap distance (PU) that is measured when the drive shaft is pushed fully together (length LZ).

However, with the shortest working length, the two halves of the drive shaft sections may not touch. There must still be a free sliding distance (a) = 40 mm.

Shorten the inner and outer guard tubes by the same amount.

Shorten the inner and outer splined sections by the same amount as the guard tubes.

Smooth down the cut edges, and carefully remove all swarf and filings.

Grease the splined sections.

6.2.3 Adapting the hydraulics Attention!

Because tractors have different hydraulic systems, it is essential to consult the tractor's operating manual. This is the only way to prevent damage to the tractor's hydraulic system.

Do not allow the tractor hydraulics to overheat.

Observe any warning signals installed on the tractor.

– Adapt the swather's hydraulic system to the tractor hydraulics.

– Do not exceed the max. permitted oil quantity – see Specifications, page 20.

– The machine's pressure relief valve must be set to a higher value (+20 bar) than the tractor's relief valve.

The swather's hydraulic system must be adjusted to match the tractor hydraulics. The adjustment is made at the hydraulic valve block (1).

3. Check the oil levels in the gear drives; for this, the machine must be brought into the working position – see Working position with ISOBUS Terminal, page 58 and/or Working position with operating terminal, page 61. Oil level check – see Rotor drive, page 148.

4. Lubricate the machine thoroughly prior to operation – see Lubricating chart, page 176.

5. Check that all screws are tight.

6. Check the tightness of the wheel nuts. Check the tyre pressures, and correct if necessary. For tightening torques/tyre pressures – see Specifications, page 20.

7. Use safety chains to prevent the drive shaft guards from rotating with the drive shaft.

8. Check safety guards and tine guards for signs of wear or damage.

9. Mount protective devices completely, and lock them in position – see Protective devices, page 145.

10. Before starting to move, check the tractor and machine for any unattached items. Parts that could get lost during transport must be secured or covered.

11. Order all persons out of the danger area. Should anyone approach the machine, switch it off immediately.

12. Never allow the machine to run unattended.

13. Engage the PTO drive shaft only if the machine is in the working position, and with the tractor engine at idling speed – see Working position with ISOBUS Terminal, page 58 and/or Working position with operating terminal, page 61.

Observe the max. permissible PTO speed – see Specifications, page 20.

8.1.1 Attaching to the bottom links 1

Danger!

When hitching the machine to the tractor, there is a risk of injury.

– No person is permitted between the tractor and the machine.

• Hook the link pins of the hitch yoke (1) into the

tractor's bottom links, and secure with linch pin (2).

• Lock bottom links laterally.

• Raise the three-point linkage (bottom links) as far as it will go.

• Hydraulically lock the bottom links in this position.

8.1.2 Mounting the universal drive shaft Danger!

Never operate the drive shaft without or with damaged guards – risk of injury.

– Mount the joint guards and protective tubes.

– Secure the guards against rotation.

– Only use drive shafts that are in perfect technical condition.

Risk of injury from drive shaft becoming disconnected during operation.

– Check that all locks are securely engaged before starting work with the drive shaft.

Before fitting the universal drive shaft:

• Clean and grease the splines of the tractor and machine PTO stubs.

• Separate the two sections of the drive shaft, and grease the splines.

Caution!

Optimum drive shaft movement and quietest operation can only be achieved if the machine is correctly hitched.

When mounting the drive shaft, make sure that the catches have engaged securely.

Proceed as follows to mount the drive shaft:

• Switch off engine and remove ignition key.

• Clean and grease the splines of drive shaft and PTO stub.

• Fit the drive shaft to the swather first. Then connect the shaft to the tractor's PTO stub as follows: – Press down the locking pin, and push the drive shaft onto the PTO stub.

– Make sure that the locking pin engages securely.

Caution!

At the swather end, the drive shaft can only be mounted in two positions (offset by 180°).

• Use safety chains (3) to prevent the drive shaft guards (1) from rotating with the drive shaft.

• The guard tubes of all drive shafts must be secured against rotation by means of the safety chains (3).

• Carefully steer the tractor to right and left to check the free movement of the drive shaft; adapt the shaft length, if necessary – see Adapting the universal drive shaft, page 25.

– Lower the prop stand fully to the ground, and secure it.

– Do not place an extra load on the prop stand by means of the tractor's hydraulics.

Raise the prop stand when the machine has been hitched.

Proceed as follows to raise the prop stand: – Raise the machine slightly with the three-point hitch, to take the load off the prop stand.

– Pull out pin (1), and push prop stand (2) upwards as far as it will go.

– Secure the prop stand (2) by reinserting pin (1).

Proceed as follows to lower the prop stand: – Raise the machine slightly with the three-point hitch.

– Pull out pin (1), and lower prop stand (2) fully to the ground.

– Secure the prop stand (2) by pushing pin (1) into the closest hole.

8.1.4 Connecting the hydraulics Attention!

Dirty hydraulic couplings can lead to contamination of the hydraulic system.

– Clean the hydraulic couplings and the hydraulic hoses every time before hitching.

– Prevent the control cable from scuffing or being squashed.

Before connecting the hydraulic hoses, make sure that the swather's hydraulic system has been adapted to that of the tractor.

– Connect the return line (without marking) only to the “pressure-free return” coupling.

• Protect the hoses from scuffing or being squashed.

A sudden disconnection of the pneumatic hoses will cause the machine's brake system to fail.

The pneumatic couplings must be properly engaged and locked. Make sure that the hoses are positioned correctly.

– After connecting the quick-release couplings, check that they are seated properly.

– Check the run of the hoses to make sure that they cannot be squashed.

Dual-hose system: Connect the pneumatic hoses (1) to the quick-release coupling on the tractor as follows: – First connect the yellow coupling, then – the red coupling.

– Check that the couplings are seated correctly and locked.

Disconnect the hoses in the reverse order.

Damaged hydraulic hoses can lead to a sudden disconnection of the hoses, and failure of the machine's brake system.

During connection, make sure that the hydraulic hoses cannot scuff or become squashed. The quick-release coupling must be engaged securely.

Attention!

To prevent damage to the machine: – Before driving away, make sure that the bottom links are completely free of the hitch pins.

• Drive the tractor away carefully.

8.2.1 Parking the machine at sub-zero temperatures Attention!

At sub-zero temperatures, any water that has entered the tine arm mounts can freeze, and thus cause damage to the machine.

If there is a risk of freezing: – remove the upper tine arms, and – seal the ends of the mounting tubes.

– Carry out the work described below.

After the machine has been washed or has been driven through the rain, the following work should be carried out before the machine is parked:

• Lower the rotors into the working position.

Transport on public roads

• The rotary swather LINER 3000 needs no registration, but it must have a type approval and be fitted with identification plates.

• Apart from his driving licence the operator must always carry the Vehicle Type Approval supplied by the manufacturer.

• Observe the relevant traffic regulations when moving the machine on public roads.

• In the Federal Republic of Germany the “Road Traffic Regulations” (StVZO apply).

• In other countries, different traffic regulations may apply.

• All specifications and constraints mentioned in the copy of the Vehicle Type Approval or in the vehicle's registration documents must be observed.

If any parts of the rotary swather with specified properties are modified at a later stage or if they might endanger other road users while in operation, the Vehicle Type Approval will be invalidated, and a new Approval must be applied for. For this, the rotary swather must be checked and approved by the local Test Center for Vehicle Safety (TÜV) (§ 19 Abs. 2 StVZO).

If you have any doubts whether your Vehicle Type Approval is invalid, please contact us, the manufacturers, directly.

9.1.1 Driving licence The driving licence required to operate the tractor is sufficient.

9.1.2 Identification plates The rotary swather must be fitted with an identification number plate, which is assigned to the tractor's owner for one of his towed vehicles (not an official number plate).

To prevent the raised rotors being lowered accidentally during road travel and consequent danger to other road users, the tractor's hydraulic control lever must be locked against inadvertent operation.

– Secure the tractor's control lever against inadvertent operation.

While the tractor's engine is running, there is a risk of injury due to functional faults or external operation of the machine.

– Before leaving the tractor: • Switch off the engine.

• Remove the ignition key.

Adapt your driving speed to the traffic and road conditions. Reduce your speed when approaching a bend.

In other countries, lower max. permissible road speeds may apply.

The following max. road speeds may never be exceeded: Caution!

Observe the following max. road speeds: – Swather with brake system: 50 km/h – Swather without brake system: 25 km/h – In road bends and on poor road surfaces: max. 20 km/h

The following conditions must be met for road transport:

• The tractor's front axle must always be loaded with at least 20 % of the tractor's empty weight – see Ballast weights, page 23.

• The machine must be hitched to the tractor completely and correctly – see Hitching the machine, page 29.

• The machine must be in the transport position – see Transport position with ISOBUS Terminal, page 49 or Transport position with operating terminal, page 52.

To switch on press the “ON” key (1) for approximately 1 sec. – the start menu appears.

To switch off, press the “ON” key for approx. 2 sec., the controller switches off automatically after running through a shutdown routine (stand-by). If the swather is adjusted to the transport position automatically by the controller; it switches automatically to “stand-by” (Start menu) after approx. 2 minutes.

5 Note!

When a connection is established for the first time between the machine (attachment) and the CLAAS Communicator, the program for machine control is transferred from the machine computer unit to the CLAAS Communicator. The upload process may take several minutes until the first machine control menu is displayed.

During the upload process, the menus are saved to the memory of the CLAAS Communicator. When the CLAAS Communicator is switched off and switched on again, the menus are displayed after approximately 5 sec.

If the machine's “Start menu”, e.g. for the LINER 3000 (Fig. 1) is not displayed after switch-on, the Communicator's memory is full, and the program cannot be stored.

The CLAAS Communicator has sufficient memory for several machine control programs (attachments). If the memory is full, an earlier program must be deleted from the memory before saving another one. For more information see Memory management, page 73.

10.2.6 Software management Memory management The tab “Software management” should only be called by experienced users. Incorrect entries may cause the Communicator to fail.

The program for control of the attached machine (attachment e.g. LINER 3000) is stored in this menu. The memory may become full after changing machines or attachments a few times.

The CLAAS Communicator has sufficient memory for several machine control programs (attachments). If the memory is full, a program that is no longer used must be deleted from the memory before saving another one.

The following memory information is shown: S1 = remaining free memory in Kbytes S2 = memory required in Kbytes for the selected program.

P = name/identification of the program The example in Figure 13 must be read as follows: There are still 960 Kbytes of memory free.

The selected programme LI30_14 (LI30 = LINER 3000, 14 = Software version 1.4) requires 35 kbytes of memory.

Deleting memory space Use the “Soft Key” to call the next program.

Use the “Soft Key” to call the previous program.

Use the “Soft Key” to delete the selected program from the memory.

Note!

If a deleted program is required again, it will be automatically uploaded to the CLAAS Communicator next time it is connected to the machine or attachment, provided that sufficient memory is available.

11.2 Programming ISOBUS Terminal 11.2.1 Initial settings Danger!

When raising/lowering the rotors, make sure that nobody is in the pivoting area.

There is a risk of injury.

– Direct all persons out of the danger area.

– Switch off the machine at once, if necessary.

– If necessary, interrupt the control unit with the “STOP” key.

Never work on the machine while the tractor's engine is running.

– Switch off the engine.

– Remove the ignition key.

Note!

Before operating the machine for the first time it is recommended that the “Headland” function (sequence controller, clearance height) is adapted to the conditions. Otherwise, the programmed settings will be used when running the “Headland” function.

Proceed as follows for the initial settings:

• Drive the tractor and hitched machine onto a level surface, and switch off the engine. Hitch up the machine – see Hitching the machine, page 29.

• Open the shut-off valves for the rear rotors – see Opening the shut-off valve for the rear rotors (only applies up to Serial No. 60501857), page 35.

Attention!

Blocked wheels on the swather can lead to damage of the swather's running gear, because the running gear cannot be swivelled.

– Release parking brake on the tractor and on the rotary swather.

• Never actuate the foot brake and/or the parking brake while extending or retracting the outriggers.

When a connection is established for the first time between the machine (attachment) and the terminal, the program for machine control is transferred from the machine computer unit to the terminal. The upload process may take several minutes until the first machine control menu is displayed.

During the upload process, the menus are saved to the memory of the terminal. When the terminal is switched off and switched on again, the menus are displayed after approximately 5 sec.

If the machine's “Start menu”, e.g. for the LINER 3000 (Fig. 11) is not displayed after switch-on, the terminal's memory is full, and the program cannot be stored.

The terminal has memory for several programmes for controlling the machine (attachments). If the memory is full, an earlier program must be deleted from the memory before saving another one. For further action see operator's manual of the terminal being used.

11.3 Manual control 11.3.1 Of special importance If these instructions are not followed, the rotary swather may be damaged.

In the manual mode, all safety devices are disabled.

This means that the operations do not have safety interlocks.

Pressing several “Soft Keys” simultaneously results in uncontrolled functions.

Only press the “Soft Keys” one at a time.

All functions are active only as long as the corresponding “Soft Key” is pressed (push-button function).

The following items are not monitored: – the PTO shaft, – the clearance height, – the working width, – the running gear.

The operator is responsible for individual procedures.

Pay particular attention to the following: – the universal drive shafts – note max. angles.

– the working width – collision of the rotor while raising into the transport position.

– the running gear – lowering the rotors to working position.

– the running gear – with lowered rotors.

– the rear rotors – lowering the rotors to working position.

We recommend performing the functions in the same sequence as the automatic mode: – Raise the running gear completely.

– Lower rotors to working position.

– Extend the front rotors at least 10 cm, otherwise the adjustment across the direction of travel can no longer be ensured – see Adjusting the working width, page 84.

– Only change the rake height in working position.

– Only raise the rotors to max. headland height with PTO shaft engaged. If rattling becomes audible, the max. angle of the universal drive shafts has been exceeded.

– Disengage the PTO shaft, and reduce working width to the minimum setting before raising the rotors into the transport position.

11.3.2 Activating manual control The swather can be operated fully manually with the terminal. The valves are controlled individually in manual mode. Manual mode should be used only in emergency situations to rescue the machine. This function can also be used for repair and service work.

Danger of crushing, and from rotating machine components. The manual (emergency) operation must be carried out with the tractor's engine running. For these operations, at least one assistant person is required, to sit on the tractor and switch off the hydraulics and the engine immediately, if necessary.

There is a risk of injury!

For manual operation of the hydraulic system: – Disengage the PTO shaft.

– Remove the universal drive shaft from the tractor's PTO. – Maintain a safe distance from moving parts (rotors, outriggers, ...).

– Switch off the hydraulic system immediately in case of an emergency.

– Switch off the machine at once, if necessary.

– Switch off the engine.

– Remove the ignition key.

If the electrical controls are defective, the machine's hydraulic functions can be operated manually by means of the corresponding valves. Proceed as follows:

• Connect the hydraulic hoses to the tractor – see Connecting the hydraulics, page 34.

In the manual mode, all safety devices are disabled.

This means that the operations do not have safety interlocks.

Pressing several soft keys simultaneously results in uncontrolled functions.

Only press one key at a time.

All functions are active only as long as the corresponding key is pressed (push-button function).

The following items are not monitored: – the clearance height, – the working width, – the running gear.

The operator is responsible for individual operations.

Pay particular attention to the following: – The universal drive shafts – note max. angles.

– The working width – collision of the rotors while raising into the transport position.

– The running gear – lowering the rotors to the working position.

– The running gear – with lowered rotors.

– The rear rotors – lowering the rotors to the working position.

We recommend performing the functions in the same sequence as the automatic mode: – Lift running gear completely.

– Lower rotors to working position.

– Extend the front rotors at least 10 cm, otherwise the adjustment across the direction of travel can no longer be ensured – see Adjusting the working width (rotor overlap), page 130.

When working narrow or tight areas, the operator has the option of working with only one rotor or with several rotors, by using the individual raising function.

Any rotor can be selected for working.

The rotors can be adjusted singly or in pairs, if the following soft keys are available. The following soft keys are available in the “Working Position” (Fig. 15) or “Headland reached” (Fig. 16) screens: Rotors on both sides 15

In this screen, the rotors can be raised and lowered in pairs.

The repair of prestressed energy-storage devices (springs, hydraulic accumulators, etc.) requires proper training, equipment, and experience. There is an increased risk of injury.

– Repairs may only be carried out in specialist workshops.

15.1.1 Spare parts

15.1.3 Tyres Danger!

Damaged tyres can become deflated unexpectedly during operation. This has a negative effect on vehicle stability, especially when working on slopes.

– Check tyres regularly for damage and correct pressure.

– Repair work on tyres and wheels may only be carried out by professionals and with suitable tools.

Excessively high pressure can cause a tyre to burst.

– Keep clear of the tyre while inflating.

– Inflate the tyres only with compressed air.

– Observe the max. permitted inflation pressure.

Check tyre pressures regularly.

Ensure that the specified inflation pressure is observed.

Permitted inflation pressure – see Specifications, page 20.

Every time a wheel is fitted, the wheel nuts or bolts must be retightened after the first 10 hours of operation, and then checked for tightness every 50 operating hours.

For tightening torque – see Specifications, page 20.

Spare parts must comply at least with the technical standards required by the machine manufacturer. This is ensured e.g. by using original spare parts.

15.1.2 Screws and bolts Check all screws and bolts for tightness, and retighten if necessary.

Make sure that all securing pins and clips are in place.

Warning!

The hydraulic system is under high pressure.

Fluids (hydraulic fluid) escaping under high pressure can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury. Consult a doctor immediately in case of injury, otherwise serious infections can result.

Take care when draining hot oil – risk of burns!

– Before starting work on the hydraulic system: • Lower the rotors to the ground.

• Make sure that the hydraulic system is depressurized.

• Use suitable aids when checking for leaks.

• Check hydraulic hoses at regular intervals, and replace them in case of damage or ageing! Replacement hoses must meet the technical requirements specified by the machine manufacturer.

Repair work on the hydraulic system may only be carried out by authorized special workshops, or by your CLAAS partner.

– Wear suitable protective clothing.

Observe the specified oil type and oil change intervals for the gearbox. Only use high-quality branded grease and oil to lubricate the machine. Clean the grease nipples before applying the grease gun. Lubricate the machine according to the lubrication chart at the end of this manual.

The specified lubrication intervals only apply for normal conditions of use. If the machine is operated under rough conditions, it must be lubricated more frequently.

Environment!

Lubricants and fuel must be stored in suitable containers, and they must be disposed of correctly.

15.1.6 Protective devices Warning!

Environment!

Dispose of oil, grease, and filters in the prescribed manner.

Protective devices provide a shield for the machine's dangerous components.

– Protective devices may only be opened when the drive is disengaged, and the tractor's engine is switched off.

– Switch off the engine.

– Observe the manufacturer's maintenance instructions!

Draining the compressed air tank The compressed air tank (1) should be drained every day. This is done by means of the ring at the side of the drain valve (2). Proceed as follows to drain the tank: 1

15 Maintenance 15.5 Brakes Checking/adjusting the brake cylinder stroke The machine is always delivered with a brake system that is ready for operation.

During the first few kilometers, the brake linings settle slightly, which results in play. Therefore, the brake needs adjusting after the first 10 hours of operation.

Also as a result of normal wear, the brakes need readjusting after approximately every 100 operating hours.

Only 2/3 of the brake cylinder's operating stroke may be used. If the stroke is more than this, the brake system must be serviced and readjusted by a specialist workshop.

15.6.3 Adjusting the reed switch (from Serial No.: 605 0 1113 onwards) A reed switch is installed in the main running gear as a safety feature. The rotors can only be lowered to the working position if the outrigger has also been extended to the working position.

The reed switches will only function properly if they are correctly positioned in relation to the relevant magnets.

Proceed as follows to adjust the switches:

• Move the reed switch or the magnet to the position in which the switch is to be actuated.

Damaged tyres can become deflated unexpectedly during operation. This has a negative effect on vehicle stability, especially when working on slopes.

– Check tyres regularly for damage and correct pressure.

– Repair work on tyres and wheels may only be carried out by professionals and with suitable tools.

Excessively high pressure can cause a tyre to burst.

– Keep clear of the tyre while inflating.

– Inflate the tyres only with compressed air.

– Observe the max. permitted inflation pressure.

Check tyre pressures regularly.

• Remove filter element. Check the O-ring and the back-up ring in the filter housing, and replace if necessary.

• Open the plastic sleeve of the new filter element, and push it over the neck in the filter head.

• Pull the plastic sleeve off completely.

• Turn the filter housing back into the filter head until it seats, and then tighten it further by 1/8 to 1/2 turn.

15.11 Recommendations for winter storage 1. Remove all crop residue and dirt from the machine.

2. Wipe grease and dust from the outside of all bearings.

3. Lubricate all grease points until grease emerges from the bearings (see Lubricating chart, page 176). Run the machine for a short time.

4. Check the machine for worn and defective parts, and have necessary repairs carried out.

5. Clean rusty areas and repair damaged paintwork.

6. Use protective tyre paint to prevent rubber from deteriorating.

7. Remove the control terminal/ISOBUS Terminal/ CLAAS Communicator from the machine, and store it in a weather-protected place at a temperature of approx. 18°C. 8. Store the machine in a dry place, and not together with fertilizer.

If the machine cannot be parked in a dry, weatherproof building: 9. Remove the upper tine arms.

10. Seal the ends of the mounting tubes.
