Inspection of the Primary Shaft

STEP 291

Check the teeth on the gears for wear and damage. If a tooth is badly damaged, be sure to inspect the gear or spline that is in mesh with the damaged gear.

STEP 292

Check the splines on the primary shaft for wear and damage.

STEP 293

Check the ball bearing for flat areas, pitting, and other damage. Replace as necessary.

NOTE: Clean bearings and gears with clean transmission oil, compressed air, and lint free shop towels. If inspection reveals problems with any of the primary shaft assembly parts, replace as necessary. Be sure to check for evidence of similar problems with the mating parts.
