Inspection of the Oil Pump

STEP 326

Inspect the large gear and the small gear for wear and damage. If the teeth have scoring, excessive wear, or sharp points or edges, replace the pump. Examine the lugs on the large gear for damage. If found, examine the hub on the torque converter for similar damage. Replace pump and torque converter as necessary.

STEP 327

Inspect the gear pockets in the pump housing for wear or damage. If the gear pockets have scoring or excessive wear, use a new oil pump.

STEP 328

Inspect the splines on the shaft for wear and damage. If you find damage, replace the pump and torque converter.

STEP 329

Inspect all passages to be sure that the passages are open and free of foreign material.

STEP 330

Inspect the parts of the torque converter relief valve and the oil pump relief valve for wear and damage.

NOTE: If any problems are detected in steps 317 through 330, replace the pump with a new pump part no. 181199A4 from NAPO.
