SECONDARY STEERING CHECK NOTE: Test the secondary steering a minimum of every 250 hours.

1. Prior to checking the secondary steering system, park the machine on a hard packed, level surface with enough clearance around the machine to allow you to completely steer from side to side. Raise the bucket approximately 500 mm (20 inches) above the ground. 2. Turn the key switch in the ON position but do not start the engine. Confirm that the secondary steering lamp within the instrument cluster is illuminated. This indicates that the steering pressure is low. 3. Start the engine and let the engine run for a few seconds. Confirm that the secondary steering lamp within the instrument cluster is not illuminated. This confirms that steering pressure is built up and that the module is armed. 4. With the machine at low idle and steering straight ahead, turn the key switch to the OFF position to stop the engine and then immediately back to the ON position (not the START position). The secondary steering pump / motor should start running within 0.1 seconds. Confirm that the secondary steering lamp within the instrument cluster is illuminated and the secondary steering pump / motor is running. 5. Steer the machine full left into the end of travel and hold the pump at high pressure for 4 to 5 seconds to confirm that there is no leakage back to the pressure switch. Steer the machine to the full right position to confirm that the secondary steering system is working and there is no binding in the steering linkage. Confirm that there is no lack in the steering function. 207

The secondary steering system is electrically powered which allows you to steer the machine if the primary steering system stops working. Always maintain the batteries.
