Fuel Conditioner

Diesel fuel conditioner is available from your dealer. Follow the instructions on the can.

The conditioner will: 1.Clean the fuel injectors, valves and manifold for increased service life. 2.Disperse insoluble gummy deposits that can form in the fuel system. 3.Separate moisture from the fuel. 4.Stabilize the fuel in storage.

WARNING: Engine fuel is flammable and can cause a fire or an explosion. Do not fill the fuel tank or service the fuel system near an open flame, welding, burning cigars, cigarettes, etc.

WARNING: Never refuel the machine when the engine is hot or running. Never smoke while refueling.

Diesel Fuel

Use No. 2 diesel fuel in the engine of this machine. The use of other fuels can cause the loss of engine power and high fuel consumption. In very cold temperatures, a mixture of No. 1 and No. 2 diesel fuels is temporarily permitted. See the following Note. NOTE: See your fuel dealer for winter fuel requirements in your area. If the temperature of the fuel lowers below the cloud point (wax appearance point), wax crystals in the fuel will cause the engine to lose power or not start. The diesel fuel used in this machine must meet the specifications in the chart below or Specification D975-81 of the American Society for Testing and Materials.

Fuel Storage

If you keep fuel in storage for a period of time, you can get foreign material or water in the fuel storage tank. Many engine problems are caused by water in the fuel. Keep the fuel storage tank outside and keep the fuel as cool as possible. Remove water from the storage container at regular periods of time. Fill the fuel tank at the end of the day to prevent condensation in the fuel tank. When adding fuel to the machine, remove the fuel cap SLOWLY to reduce the air pressure build up.

Removing Water and Sediment from the Fuel System

Drain the water for the fuel filters after every 50 hours of operation. Drain the water and sediment from the fuel tank after every 500 hours of operation. 1.Turn the drain valves on the fuel filters counterclockwise 2 or 3 turns and drain the water from the fuel filters. 2.Close the drain valves. 3.Use a large enough container and drain water and sediment from the fuel tank. Dispose of water and sediment properly.

Fuel Filter

Replace the fuel filters after every 500 hours of operation. 1.Clean the filter head and the outside of the fuel filters. 2.Turn each filter counterclockwise and remove the filters. Discard the filters. 3.Apply a thin layer of clean oil to the gasket on the new filter. 4.Install the new filters. Use your hands to tighten each filter 1/2 to 3/ 4 turn after the filter makes contact with the filter head. 1 1 IMPORTANT: Do not use a filter wrench when installing a new filter.

In-Line Fuel Filter

Replace the in-line fuel filter every 500 hours. To replace the filter do the following: 1.Loosen the nut or hose clamp (as equipped) at each end of the filter.

Remove the filter from the fuel line. 2.Install a new filter. Make sure the arrow on the filter points toward the primer pump. 3.Use the primer pump to prime the system. Check for leakage. 4.Start the engine and check again for leakage. 5.See Removing Water and/or

Sediment on Page 183.
