Service Specifications

Air cleaner Dust Valve interval ................................................................. As required Air filter element service interval Primary (Outer) Element ......Service the element if the air filter indicator lamp illuminates. Replace the element after three washings. Also, replace the element after 2000 hours of operation or each year, whichever occurs first. Secondary (Inner) Element ............ Replace the element after the primary (outer) element has been cleaned three times, or after the primary element has been cleaned or replaced and the air filter indicator lamp is still illuminated with the engine running. Also, replace the element every 2000 hours or each year, whichever occurs first. The shelf life of a new air cleaner element is five years. DO NOT install a new element that is more than four years old. The date of manufacture is on the end cap of the element.

Dust Valve

Check the dust valve. Make sure there is no obstruction inside the valve.

Primary (Outer) Element

1.Open the hood and pull the yellow lock tab out.

2.Rotate the end cap counterclockwise to unlock. NOTE: If there is a large amount of dust inside the end cover, check dust valve for proper operation

3.Carefully remove the primary (outer) element.

4.Use a clean damp cloth and clean the inside of the filter body. 5.Install a clean or new primary (outer) element. Make sure the element has full gasket contact. 6.Install the end cover and rotate clockwise. Push the yellow lock tab in.

7.Close the engine hood. 8.Start the engine and check the air filter indicator lamp. If the air filter indicator lamp is still illuminated, replace the secondary (inner) element.

Secondary (Inner) Element

1.Remove the primary (outer) element. See previous page. 2.Remove the secondary (inner) element. Discard the secondary (inner) element.

3.Use a clean damp cloth and clean the inside of the filter body.

RD007081 WARNING: Replace all covers or guards after servicing or cleaning the machine. NEVER operate the machine with covers or guards removed.

Cleaning the Element

Check the dirty element for damage and check the rubber seal on the end. Push the rubber seal with your finger. If the rubber seal feels hard and does not move back to original shape, discard the element. 1.Wear face protection and remove the loose dirt with compressed air at 30 psi (207 kPa, 2.1 bar) maximum. Hold the nozzle at least 1 inch (25 mm) from the element. 4.Use a water hose without a nozzle with pressure less than 40 psi (275 kPa, 2.8 bar) to remove all soap from the element.

2.Mix two tablespoons of D1400 detergent (Case Part Number

A40910) with two gallons (7.6 litres) of water, one cup for 16 gallons (60 litres) water. 3.Soak the element in the soap solution for 15 to 20 minutes and then move the element up and down rapidly to loosen as much dirt as possible.

5.Allow the element to air dry. If you use a drier, do not exceed 160°F (71°C) and make sure the air is circulating in the drier. 6.Use a light and inspect the element for holes or splits in the pleats.

Check for damage to the metal parts and rubber gasket. Replace the element if damaged.

NOTE: If the element is not to be used for some time, cover the element with paper for storage.
